Slaking Thirsts is a podcast for those whose hearts ache, pine, hunger and thirst for more. With his dying breath, Jesus looked upon humanity and said, "I thirst." He thirsts that we would thirst for Him, and He is our thirst quenched. This podcast is meant to bring these two great thirsts into conversation, that thirsts would be slaked by love, intimacy, vulnerability and friendship with the LORD.

Fr. Ryan Mann's homily on the Transfiguration highlights how Jesus's divine glory was revealed through his human body, challenging the common spiritual misconception that one must minimize the physical to draw closer to God. He encourages listeners to re-appropriate their own embodied experience, reflecting on their physical sensations and perceptions of their bodies, and recognizing the profound connection between faith and physical existence, especially through the Eucharist. The message underscores that our bodies are integral to our spiritual journey and relationship with Christ.
Father Patrick discusses the Feast of St. John Vianney, exploring the humorous irony of the day's readings and the saint's unlikely call. He delves into Vianney's radical approach to ministry, which began with adorning his tattered parish with exorbitant beauty, an act that teaches us about God's nature. This reflects on God's 'undomesticated' and 'prodigal' love, seen in miracles like the multiplication of loaves and fish, where excess, not mere sufficiency, is God's trademark. The sermon concludes by highlighting how this divine lavishness invites our own generous response.

Father Patrick Schultz discusses the distinction between 'ego-drama,' a self-enclosed life, and 'theo-drama,' a life open to God's intervention, using the parable of the rich fool. He emphasizes that Christianity is a captivating, high-stakes drama, not a boring monologue, and encourages listeners to expect a real, transformative encounter with God, as powerfully articulated by C.S. Lewis on the shock of meeting a living God.

Drawing from the Gospel, this homily examines the dynamic between law, freedom, and authority, particularly how the disciples experienced Jesus defending them against criticism for eating on the Sabbath. It reflects on the human need to defend oneself and encourages listeners to allow Jesus to actively fight for and protect them, emphasizing His attentive and providing love in moments of vulnerability.
Father Patrick Schultz reflects on the deep meaning of names, drawing parallels from the human act of naming children to God's revelation of His name, "I Am Who Am," to Moses. The homily emphasizes how God's self-disclosure places Him within our reach, demonstrating His profound concern for humanity's suffering in a fallen world. It concludes by presenting discipleship not as a struggle to earn love, but as an act of surrendering to and accepting the divine love and liberation already freely given.
Father Patrick Schultz preaches on Jesus' profound desire for humanity to be utterly consumed and set aflame by His divine, non-destructive love, likening it to the unconsumed burning bush. He contrasts this with the enemy's deceptive whispers that God's closeness diminishes us, asserting that instead, it leads to radical transformation and overflowing life. The homily concludes with Pope Benedict's powerful message to embrace Christ without fear, as He takes nothing away but gives everything.
