Special. like us and they act like us, but they are not us. Here they come, Monica. Hey, Dad. We rode as fast as we could. Birdie, sweetie, you look like you could use a hug. Thanks, Mom. I feel so stupid for pulling the fire alarm. But...

When I heard the helicopter over at the school, I totally panicked, and I thought the bad guys were coming for holiday. Of course that's where your mind would go. I made things worse. No, you didn't, honey. We smoothed things over with the principal. She doesn't suspect a thing, so no worries there. And I know for a fact, Holiday isn't mad. Not at all. We're living through crazy times right now, Bird. Any one of us could have had that reaction. The last thing you should feel is stupid or afraid.

I never said I was afraid. Kids, are you sure it was a Whittier helicopter? I saw the logo, Dad. I don't get it. Has the spy in the school identified Holiday or haven't they? If they haven't, what good does it do Whittier to fly over the school? It's not like she has a big X on the top of her head. And if they have identified her, why not just come and get her?

Thanks, Mom, for that uplifting thought. Sorry, I'm just saying, why would they try to attract attention like that? Unless that's exactly what they wanted to do. Huh? It's all making sense now. This was a trap, and we fell for it. Blinds are drawn. That was the last lock. Do we really have to barricade ourselves in the house? We can't be too cautious, Holiday, especially if Cyrus is right and Whittier is on to us. I'm lost.

Can someone explain this to me like I'm a nine-year-old? You are a nine-year-old. In earthly years, but I'm an old soul. Cyrus is saying the helicopter flew over us as a test bird. For who? For the person they're looking for. Like I'm nine. Okay, to most kids at school, a wittier helicopter flying overhead wouldn't mean anything, right? Just another helicopter in the sky. Yeah.

But to Holiday, it's a big deal because she knows Whittier is looking for her. Okay. So if Flashcard wanted to try and figure out which student in the school came from Whittier's lab... She'd send a Whittier helicopter and wait to see which kid freaked out. And I was that kid. I failed the test. We're totally doomed, and it's all my fault. Now, Bertie, let's not overreact. This is all just a theory. A theory that caused you and Mom to run around locking doors and closing curtains. I'm...

The worst. Stop, you know that isn't true. It's possible the people at Whittier still don't know that it's holiday thereafter. Who was around you guys when the alarm went off? I was with Brindley until Principal Pallet came and got me. And either one of them could be flashcard. Nothing unusual on my end. Casey and I were working on the robot. Then the principal came and told me Birdie had pulled the alarm. What about you, Bird?

I was in science when I pulled it, so everyone in the class saw. Plus the teacher, and the student teacher, and the aide, and the janitors in the hall, and the recess helpers who were walking by. And the guy paying outside okay, we got it lots of people But the twins went with me to the school nurse and they were asking lots of questions Yeah, and they were definitely acting weird

Cora and Dora are weird. That's why I like them. To be fair, the nurse was asking a lot of questions, too. What if Flashcard thinks I'm the person they're after? What if they come for me? We won't let that happen. They might think you're just connected to the person they're after. We need to be sure who flashcard is before we can be certain Holiday's identity has been compromised. Dad's right.

We need to set a trap of our own. And I already told Cyrus, I think we should use me as bait. That's not what I said. I can't just sit around and wait for Whittier to come for me. The best way to... out flashcard is to offer up the one thing Whittier wants. And that's me. Hey, Holiday, I was just thinking, that's not the only thing we have that Whittier wants.

You know how hard I've been trying to be normal. It didn't work, Holiday. You gave up one thing, but then you discovered you're a musical genius, and a language genius, and... They'll keep looking for you. Unless we do something about it. Okay, I'm going into the garage. Stay close. This could get ugly. Holler if you need me. Something tells me you'll know before I have to holler. Deep breath. Here goes.

I'm taking off the sheet. Hey, it's me. Long time no see. How you doing, huh? You look really good. relaxed well rested so I know you're probably a little mad at me for chaining you up and I get it I do but the thing is well I kind of need your help Think we could work something out a lovely hoverboard of mine Now that's what I'm talking about
