Ector is the king of a distant kingdom. He has one daughter who he wants to see married to a strong knight before he dies. Laura, his daughter, has no interest in marrying. She just wants to read and study to become a novelist. Hector turns to Faustol, the wizard, to enchant his daughter into marrying a valiant knight. This story was originally written to introduce fairy tale vocabulary to my Spanish three students.

It is in the third person and the past tense. It also includes some complex grammar in the form of the conditional and past subjunctive tenses. Important vocabulary in the story includes re, king, reino, kingdom, caballero, knight, espada, sword, escudo, shield, and encanthar to enchant or curse. I hope you enjoy la princesa Laura. There was once in a very distant kingdom, a old and devil kingdom. Not always it was like that when they were young they were very strong and valiant.

But with the years it became a devil kingdom. The king was called actor. Actor had a daughter. Not had children, only a daughter. Because she was very old and she was going to die. She wanted her daughter to marry a valiant caballero who could defend the kingdom. The princess was called Laura. She was 20 years old and she was very intelligent. Laura did not want to marry because she thought she was too young. She just wanted to read and study.

She read great novels like the Con de Monte Cristo and the War and Peace. She did not interest the dragons nor the valiant caballeros. She preferred to study, to be novelist and write stories. Laura told her father, the king of actors, that she did not want to marry. That she wanted to be novelist. Actor said, The princesses do not work. He said, the princesses are married and have babies. I do not know how other princesses go to study and write. The king was frustrated with his daughter.

Only she wanted a strong caballero to protect her and the king did not, when he died. The king was tired to talk to his friend, the powerful magician Fausto. The king wanted a potion to change the ideas of Laura. This potion would make Laura become a very, very, very, without ideas of studying and being novelist. Fausto decided to help the king. Why did he say that? Fausto wanted to be the king. The magician had a plan to betray the king actor. The potion that prepared was very special.

The ideas of Laura would change, but it was also a potion of love. The baby was the potion. Laura would be in love with Fausto. So Fausto could marry with the princess and kill the king actor to take control of the king. The king actor returned to the castle very happy with the potion of the magician Fausto. Only he had to find the perfect moment to give her daughter to her. The king decided to organize a battle to determine who was the most valuable caballero of all the king.

The most valuable caballero would have the honor to marry with the princess Laura. Laura was very angry with her father. She didn't want to marry, she wanted to study and write. She went to her library in the highest tower of the castle and she was sent to read. She didn't go to look at the battles, she went to read. Caballeros from all over the kingdom came for the battle. Each caballero believed that she was the most valuable of all. Laura didn't go to the battles.

She read the book in her personal library. Mauricio was a caballero of a small town in the kingdom. He was very angry and strong. He was very intelligent and studied in school every day. He wanted to be a doctor. Mauricio wanted to marry a woman intelligent. He always listened to the beautiful princess, but he didn't care. Because he believed that princesses were stupid, no intelligent.

The caballero Mauricio received a letter from the king that said that all caballeros had to go to the castle to compete for the hand of the princess Laura. Mauricio was an obedient and loyal man. So he went to the castle, although he didn't have the intention to win. He didn't want to be king with a princess in the house. He wanted to be a doctor with an intelligent wife. Caballeros were preparing for the battle when the evil face appeared. He became a caballero with a powerful singing.

Fausto had to win because he had to be the new king. So Fausto sang the swords and shields of the other caballeros.

No tienes sed? No gracias.

Laura preguntó a Mauricio. ¿Qué es una novelista? Pues no me importa.
