Temptation is what unveils the shop window, or swings open the door and beckons us onto a path that leads AWAY from God, and therefore AWAY from our Strength, our Sustainer and our Saviour …

Now, SOLITUDE gives STRENGTH to TEMPTATION ... so we need to know how to deal with it ... and Jesus shows us how in Luke 4

•The POWER of temptation, vv. 1-3, 5-7, 9-11

•The POWER of Godly resistance, vv. 1, 4, 8, 12

•Conclusion, v. 13 ff.

Later, Paul will describe the Word of God as the Sword of the Spirit.

Jesus is decisive and discerning in the desert because He is filled with the Spirit and depends on – that is doesn’t doubt the authority of – the Word of God.

And therefore the Lord survived His solitude’s temptations … and the devil went off with his tail between his legs:
 
 “When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left Him until an opportune time.”.
