Welcome to this listener feedback and response edition of the Silver Screen Happy Hour. I'm Chris Wiegand, along with my brother Jerome. I got a message from a woman that I know from Clubhouse. Her name's Ashley Feller. Ashley is out of Florida. And I just wanted to play this message for you. Because it was quite cool to get a kind of a surprise. Let me play this.
Hey y'all. I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your most recent episode. That covers mainly Midsummer, but some of Silence of the Lambs as well. Midsummer and Silence of the Lambs are both two of my favorite films ever.
And I could watch them over and over and I have very few films do I do that, but those two I have and I think that y'all did a fantastic job covering it and bringing up things that I've watched those movies multiple times and I completely missed some of the parts that y'all brought up. So that is so cool. Was wondering if y'all had by chance seen Hereditary. That's another film by Ari Aster.
that even though they're not related, you can kind of, they touch on similar themes and that's, that's another great film, but also equally, if not as disturbing as midsummer. In fact, I think I'm more afraid of Hereditary than Midsummer. Um, anyway, I just
She got cut off there, but wasn't that cool? So, I wanted to respond to Ashley, um, so, and I think, didn't we cover a little bit, you mentioned Hereditary while we were recording, but that might have been in, um, the Silence of the Lambs part, part two?
Probably. Uh, first, Ashley, uh, thank you for the message, and...
pull your mic over.
Oh, sorry. Is this better?
Yep.
Ashley, thank you for the message, and, um, just so you know... There is a sequel coming. The Silence of the Lambs will have its own hour plus episode that we drop Halloween night. So, we only kind of mention Silence of the Lambs in the first show because it has its own whole segment coming up. So, we're excited for that and I hope you are too. So, Hereditary. Uh, I've gone back and forth on Hereditary. Um... She is correct in the aspect that it is more disturbing.
Yeah, and this is one, I think I told you, I have not seen it yet.
Right, and not to ruin anything for you specifically as well, I remember telling you that it has one of the most horrific, I'll just say, death scenes. Um, involving a light post, and those that have seen it know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not going to say anything else. If you haven't seen it, you have to watch. It's almost worth watching for that scene alone, because I didn't see that coming at all.
That was like, it's like, you know, when you're watching a movie, you kind of get a sense on where it's going, and when that scene happens... And it's not like the ending or anything, it happens in the middle of the movie, you're like what the fuck, like everything just, at, at that point all fucking cards are off the table, you have no idea what's going on at that point. So, um, we could probably pick it apart on one of these shows, but I had some problems with, script.
I, I really did with as far as like, uh, where it just tries to 180 you at the end and you have to then go back. Uh, Hereditary is definitely one of those movies you gotta watch like two or three times. Because uh, if you watch it just the one time, you're gonna walk away going, what the hell? That doesn't make any sense. But if you go back and watch it a second time or a third time, you're like, oh, I kind of see where, okay, yeah, got it. But it's, um.
It's, it's, to me it's not anywhere near as good as Midsommar, that's just, Midsommar's, I think, uh, like I said on our podcast, it was my favorite movie of 2019, and it's definitely creeping its way onto my top ten, but that, you have to understand, my top ten. It's a prestigious line of work, so to crack my top ten, I mean, you're talking about dealing with shit like The Godfather and Goodfellas, so.
I was gonna say, it's almost like in the Catholic Church. You can't just canonize someone a saint. It has to stand the test of time. We have to see miracles, you know.
Don't they have to be, like, tortured and burned alive, too?
Well, it doesn't hurt. Well, it does hurt, but... It doesn't hurt their chances of becoming a saint.
It doesn't hurt. Ask the guys at the end of Midsommar if it hurts or not.
So anyways, I just wanted to play that, say thank you Ashley for listening and for your comments. We really appreciate them. And if you would like to send us, uh, some feedback on one of our shows, or if you completely disagree with us on something, um, let us know and, uh, we'll get you on our next podcast and, uh, Let you have your, your say Again, thank you, Ashley. We really appreciate it. Ashley is the podcast host of the Sunshine State Showcase.
They have a great show and they celebrate, support, and amplify the vibrant arts and culture scene of Florida. Yes, I just read that off her page, but it is awesome, and I actually sent her, uh, a friend of mine uh, to have, have her look up. Someone I know, uh, who's a musician down there, so I'm hoping to see him on a future uh, episode of her podcast.
But check it out, especially if you're planning a vacation in Florida, or if you live in Florida, listen to her show and you'll have new doors open to you.
