General because it really makes you feel like, you know what, people have gone through a lot worse. I yeah, for real that always helps me. Like, obviously you have your family and friends to use as a reference. But like, in the past when I have felt heartbroken, I always think about like, okay? Even Lana Del Rey has been removing even Beyonce or whatever, you know what I mean? And it's kind of your novel. You're not violent. People have made it The other
side if you fall in love again. Yeah, even the most beautiful interesting, talented famous Rich Royal people. Yes, yes, Richie. So obviously it's a little worst ways to some of these relationships that we've covered have been downright like traumatic. So if you've been dumped or cheated on or divorced out of the blue or something like that, you're not alone, it's a part of The Human Experience. Yes. It doesn't mean you're not worthy. No. No has nothing to do with you.
Yeah. Usually it doesn't have anything to do with you. They might be going through a midlife crisis or something. Hmm. Guess what? We're here to say exactly. So today's episode, we're going back to the mid 2000s. Mid 2000's, we're covering. What was the it couple of a certain era yet, especially if you were in like fourth to seventh grade or something? Around this time it's Vanessa is a NASA Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Wow.
Yeah, I can really remember like Tiger Beat magazine 18 people, what are the other ones, Bop Bop Magazine? Said they were always on the cover? Yeah. All the time. You really were like an a couple. Yeah. Prom king and queen that I almost like to, I haven't like followed them. I didn't. I only read like those teen magazines that I feel like we're mostly fake. I could be wrong. But no, like the Articles were kind of silly. Um, so I really don't know anything like real about them. Yeah.
I mean, yeah. Honestly doing the research for this one. It was a tough because I still in a way. Feel like I don't really know what was going on. Well, that's sometimes most fun. Episode is trying to figure it out. Yeah. The dynamic, like, they were very PDA at a certain point. Like there's, there's no shortage of pictures of them available and so there's a lot of things. Like, I can't even really cover, because there's just like too much to say, but I do know.
It's interesting. Like, they're huge and Vanessa like she then went on, to have another huge high-profile relationship. I think with love. Relationship. Yeah. Awesome Butler. Which I think in a way is like more popular known like, after the fact. Yeah, after we broke up that Vanessa Hudgens. Yeah, she's good at bouncing back. So, I have to ask the question. If you had to describe this couple in three words, what would they be? That's actually a really tough. I would say attractive.
Yeah, that's true. True attractive young. Uh-huh. And nonchalant. Don't you want? Okay, interesting. I don't think we've had those words yet. No. I don't think so either. And they were very, very young at the time, but just to give you some backstory so obviously we know Zac Efron, right? He is a California boy. Born in. Saint. Louis people. Oh, I went there really is a bespoke. Yeah, that governs Hometown. Wow, cool. Didn't see him there. Oh no.
Oh yeah. Halfway between the Bay Area in Southern California. Yep. He had just a normal childhood growing up in a Jewish. Middle-class families Jewish. Yeah, I did not know. I know I well I don't know if I always knew it but I've definitely no one else it didn't know.
His dad is named David. He's an electrical engineer for a power plant, and his mom is an administrator was an administrator at that power plant where my husband worked and he has a brother Dylan who is four years younger than him and as of recently like I think as recently as this year he has a new sister named Olivia that he posted about online. How is it possible? It's a baby, I don't know. Some people. He's done with of like had a
baby with someone else. What is parents must have gotten divorced. Oh okay, but you grew up with two parents who were married so I don't know when that happened. That's okay. The Press didn't report on it. I God, but age gap between the siblings. Seriously, like 30-something years you're in a completely different generation. Yeah, that's, I mean, he's in one you'll this baby is like, what the neck. The, I don't even know what would be after gen Z Gentile.
Ava, there's always starting 08, his parents actually, did they got divorce officially in 2015. So what is that kind now Port that he's, you know, he's had it rough actually, a lot of people don't know that Begley heard that before. Hmm, but we don't really know that yet. So Zach growing up, he took piano lessons as a kid. And at 11 years old, his piano teacher, encouraged him to do theater at Pacific. Servitor e of the Performing Arts due to his singing abilities.
It's always a happens with these child stars. Like someone's like you gotta sign up for something. Yeah. And so then he landed a small role in the production jib sheet Gypsy, which inspired him to pursue acting further and he acted in other musicals and that led him to getting an agent. And Before High School, Musical Zack had minor appearing roles in TV shows such as ER, CSI, Miami is biggest Roll Before High School. Musical was a recurring cast member on the TV show
Summerland, which started? Yeah, like Lori Loughlin yeah. Jesse. McCartney Kay, Panabaker would, if that's how I like randomly got into. I know I'm just mentioning some real and it seems like going to it. So like that like kind of like halster like you thousands like Vibe yeah and that one's act like really is good at yeah. Here's a California boy. He's throwing through it on the o.c. I know maybe he was with her two young.
Yeah. He's very California and Vanessa like she seems pretty New York like she's actually but she's not, she's also from California but she's like very musical theater. Mmm, big and musical theater. Obviously Zach is to really know that. Yeah, like that's like really her passion. She's like a theater kid. Yeah, theater kit. Wow. Yeah. Like more so than film I would say hmmm She's a little. Rachel Berry just kidding that. She's I think Vanessa is very
adorable. Like yeah, I do to everything I watch. Like she's the most adorable. Like contagious energy and yeah, smile. She just seems very lovely even when she had that video about Goldman, but people freaked out about there is something a little interior I know. Shouldn't be saying it was bad like it was kind of cute. It was like way in the beginning. Yeah. I don't know. Like it rise home. Yeah, sure. Some people like felt this that way like way later. That's true.
But she had her like hair. Very curly Shepherd. Pretty people have gone over that me too. I think it's hard, not to like, Vanessa Hudgens, like, what's wrong with her, you know. I'm excited to hear more. Yeah, so she was born in Salinas California. Her family moved around a lot. They like never really stayed in one place. I think I mostly lived in San Francisco, San Diego, but I'm not sure her father was named Gregory. He was a firefighter.
He sadly passed away in 2016 and people might remember that. He passed away the day Tuesday and grease live. Do you remember? Yeah, she performed literally the After he died, that's so sad. I know if she did, it's so strong. And then, yeah, she did an amazing job. Wow. She's like such a professional. Like, I Can Tell She's like really like into her work and strong person. Hmm. And I listened to her on this podcast.
Has nothing to do with this, but I was called on purpose and she just like talked a lot about like meditation and mindfulness. And I just I adore her If you're listening Vanessa, you're very lovable her mom. The same Tina. She had many jobs throughout Vanessa's childhood, she immigrated to the United States from Manila Philippines, I don't know when I think as an adult I think. But she mostly was just like, you know, supportive of Vanessa. And Vanessa's sister. Stella.
Who is seven years younger than Vanessa? I remember still of onions. Yeah, she looks a lot like the nice. A so yeah, it was active in us are both oldest children. Really have that in common. They do well. Actually, I was gonna say actually no Zack. Now is a baby sister, but it
still makes him the oldest. So I guess both sets of Vanessa's, Grandparents were musicians and that inspired her to sing a lot growing up. And she did musical theater from a very early age and starred in Productions. Like The Wizard of Oz Cinderella the music man. And from there, her parents would drive her three hours to La for our auditions for things. And after she started to see some success with getting commercials and stuff, she the family moved to LA. Wow.
And likes actually had a lot of like just reappearing rolls on like Network TV shows and stuff, but then, her first big break was in 2003 at age 13. She was cast by Catherine, hardwicke, for the film 13. What? We did not know that. Yeah, she's like, one of the, just like the friends. Oh my gosh, I need to re-watch this movie. Hmm. She's very young and I she's 13 obviously.
Yeah, yeah, that's so cool. And then she also had a supporting role in the 2004, sci-fi film Thunderbirds, which didn't really perform that well but her height okay well then let her be homeschooled or High School wouldn't let her film that so then she was home-schooled I started. So yeah that takes us to 2005 High School Musical, 2005. Five that came out in the summer, right? The second one did. Oh okay. The first one came out in the winter. Actually, I remember watching it.
My friend Katie's house shout-out. Yeah, I remember High School. Musical 2, like counting down. Yeah. For the day but there is on TV. Right? Yeah. Funny I know seriously wasn't there a third one? Yes, that was in theaters. I don't know if I saw that. I think I saw with you. Well, what? Happens in it. It's called a high school senior year and okay. All right. Vanessa gets accepted to a school. Okay, this always happens Amber. So she might leave school early.
Oh my God. I need to re-watch this movies that gets into Juilliard or not. Dr. Troy. Yeah, Troy what? Wow, Gabriella. Why is Julliard in so many movies? I know would I need to really get into Juilliard? He's a living in like to Shadow. I think of Juilliard is like Prodigy pianists and like ballerinas and stuff. I know he's been into musicals wasn't even that good. I know. And how are his grave? That's a good point, how is good?
And now I want to re-watch them, you know, I could see Gabriella, getting into Juilliard. She was yeah, it was really, really good at school, on top of Everything but M into science, right? She was into math, oh, probably science to if you listen to our Charles and Camilla episode, you would know that I do not share that trait with Gabriella. And yeah, my I know math is hard. Yes, she's a freaky math, girl member, she calls herself that
it get, they can hear that. You honestly can't call yourself that when you're like very beautiful freaky girl. One nerd. I know. Okay, so High School Musical. So, a little back story on High School Musical. Hmm. So, Disney Channel saw a lot of success with their musical episodes of The Even Stevens. Interesting. Remember like we went to the moon in 1969. No, no, no. You don't remember that. Run sings it. No. Okay. I don't think I really watched
Even Stevens that much. Yeah. Yeah, it was yeah it was like mostly reruns and stuff. We were growing up and have you like we watch these I remember the other members on all the time. You guys know it. We went to the moon in 1969 but 96 not. Everyone's gonna remember this sir. You know it's hard to do graphic is older, that's true but most of our demographic is In this age range, I guess. And then also, that's a raven had a musical episode 2, but I actually don't remember that
one. Remember any of these? Yeah, that's it. Those were huge success hits. So then the Disney Channel, really wanted to invest and their musical genres. Mmm. And you know, they have the Cheetah Girls and everything. I love the Cheetah Girls. So casting. So at this time Vanessa is 15 years old, Zach is 6. Years old. So, yeah, I know their baby. I thought they were like, 18 know, their actual children.
Oh my gosh. And director, Kenny Ortega revealed to Variety in 2021 that they made the audition process super hard on possible in order to give them the perception that this was a real musical, I guess. So they could really know what it's like on Broadway or something. Some says, we're an auditions as if we were doing a Broadway musical, we put the kids through a really long procedure. OSS agents would call casting director saying what is going on. Why are you keeping them so long?
I was set on making these actors. Making sure these actors had all it would take. So they really cast the best of the best. And Zack told Hollywood Reporter in 2014. My mom dropped me off out of the minivan somewhere in North Hollywood. I had no idea what to expect. They're about 40 guys and we walked in and Kenny Ortega was there with a piano and then put everybody in a room together. Ran through different phases, of what we would need to do. First dancing than singing. In a few of us.
Got tapped on the shoulder to leave and I didn't. And next came the scene scene reading sections, and I got paired with Vanessa Hudgens for all the partner things made a, Vanessa always got paired up. I was like, they're not trying. Also with other people, for some reason we kept sticking around for callbacks, I don't know what it was with Vanessa but we kind of clicked from the very beginning.
Wow. I have a question, but I feel like you're probably going to answer anyway, but if he was supposedly good at singing and I know he did sing and hairspray and Yang's, right. Why did they have someone else? Sing his Parts in High School Musical? That's a really good question. It's because the music was already written for someone with a higher focal range and he had a, what do you call that? He's an also, so they wrote it for a tenner. So, I didn't fit into the vocal
range and he can sing, right? Yeah, he can't sing. And he's saying in High School. Musical. 2 and High School Musical 3. Wow. That's so interesting. I always back then when I was like, in fifth grade wherever took that to mean the he wasn't a good singer. No, I thought so, too. I remember hearing rumors that his singing voice just wasn't strong enough. Mmm. But no, it's just, they had already like arrange the music. Wow. Someone with the higher voice,
that's the truth. Mmm, sounds that you. Here, Doc is a good singer. Wow, I think I mean, oh yeah, I mean he was in musical. Yeah, I have to be a good singer to be musical. Yeah. Exactly. And I feel like they wouldn't have casted someone who just like can't sing it, you know. Yeah. And he did musicals like in school, mmm. I'm guessing. He was the leader. Yeah? Right. So I don't think you can be the
lead of your bad singing. Yeah, Disney didn't have a lot of confidence, so I feel like in there singers, like if you go back and listen, They do this to Vanessa and High School Musical, and they did it to Hilary Duff in the Lizzie. Lizzie McGuire Movie. They add like another person voice. Yeah. And it's the same noise in High School Musical and in the lives of McGarvey, it's like some random woman paste. You can tell is like in her 30s or 40s like maybe it's because
they're really young doing. The voice will sound too babyish or something. Maybe they did and Metamorphoses Hilary Duff's. Yeah. Like you can tell there's somebody else. Yeah. I do think our voice is a little too baby. I listened to those songs and like what the heck is sweet? 16. Hilary Duff's. I know we will. I used to love her. Oh my God. Wanted to her concerts. I think she has the the thing that Vanessa has was just like this contagious, like lovable
energy. Yeah, maybe that's why they're on the Disney Channel, maybe. But so also casting director, Natalie Heart told variety. And 2021 Vanessa was so smitten with Zac. She said he's too cute, I can't read with him, she had a meltdown. I Vanessa all season finale of Vanessa's, kind of said, the same thing on the awards chatter podcast and 2019. She said, I think I only got matched up with one other guy and then I was matched up with Zach for the rest of the time.
And I mean, I was a baby. I was 15 years old and I was like, oh my God, this guy is so cute, so that definitely helps the chemistry. I felt like we kind of created a bond. Right from the start. We were like, we're doing this us or nothing in this podcast. Vanessa said that they began dating, pretty much right away, but I don't believe it. Okay, maybe I did.
But like, why do you think? No, I'll get to it, it seems He didn't but so that's so they filmed High School Musical in 2005, I would say Summer 2005, in Salt Lake City. Utah. What? It wasn't really Albuquerque. No, it wasn't dare. They, I know they always fool us like that. So yeah, like their first appearance together is at Ashley Tisdale's, birthday party, on October 9th, 2005 and West Hollywood, where a ton of teen tween stars were in attendance. Like the guy. Oh my God!
Oh my God, he was really cute. And I mean twin stars, it makes me think that like, it was sponsored or something by Disney Channel, but yeah, exactly. Vanessa, they take this picture together as you can see. But I mean they look cute but they do look cute six million the kind of cozied up, but Who knows? Like they could just be friends. Mmm, but they're supposedly dating there. That's what they have said. So, that is 2006.
High School Musical was released on January 20th and was the highest rated Disney Channel movie ever to be released. At that point, it was watched by 7.7 million viewers. Well, zakah Vanessa did a lot of press together, but they weren't publicly a couple at the time. There are pictures of them looking kind of cuddly, but I don't know.
Zach is also very cuddly with Ashley Tisdale to and I almost, I think I almost think that, like, if they were a fake couple, which some people do think that they were hmm. That the people at Disney Channel wanted to, like, test out exact with Ashley, or is Zach with Vanessa to see, like which one was more popular trusting. Because even like, they had that episode of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, oh, we rationally in it.
Yeah, or where Zach is on it. Maddie Ashley's character kisses, Zac Efron was thought about, you know, yeah, that's interesting, but more on that to come. So Vanessa at this time in 2006, when High School Musical has just come out, is interviewed on TRL and is asked, is there any chemistry off-screen with Zach? And she says, you see it on screen? And then the interviewer says, is he your boyfriend and Vanessa quickly says, no. And then the interviewer says, do you have a boyfriend?
And she says no. Okay, hmm, interesting, interesting. But then the interviewers starts asking, like who's your celebrity crush and she says, Matt Damon Mario Lopez what. I mean it was, you know, 15 years ago. I know, I know, so they're hotties, you know bag that I'm not again not now but and then the interviewer goes, your 17. Can't you find someone? Rage and she goes. Okay, fine Stacks cute. But then every other girl thinks he's cute too. Hmm. Just fmm does very tough, it was
really tough. On everybody thinks the person you're. I remember cute. Yeah. Or did you say? I remember we talked about this on our Twilight podcast another by Twilight and you guys want more Buzz. Um, we talked about how Zac Efron his hair. Everybody had it. He does. Maybe it wasn't just him. I don't know but like it seems like he inspired a generation. Yeah, to have that hair and then Robert Pattinson's hair took over.
Then it took over here, but see I don't what I don't understand is that, when Justin Bieber came on the scene, people acted, like, I know it was the Bieber know that Franz, I know, is that kind of hurt? Yeah, that's so true. People acting like Justin Bieber, came up with it. Like I think Essence was a little bit more side-swept but then he switched to the real repentance and he did. Yeah, he was just coffee. Seeing everybody that doesn't seem very then like the Macklemore.
Oh yes, what is it? Now I don't really know out and about here in Brooklyn. I see some different hairs but I'm not sure. It's like one. Some people are doing the 90s hair words like kind of part in the middle. Is it didn't get shot? That's how John wetton roses other people doing that. Um, yeah, I would call that like the but it's not like Christian me, buddy. Yeah, I don't know it. I don't know what's going on in like middle school, high school.
Yeah, I think that is a going to a high school where everyone's doing because they're the ones like bone Trends more. I don't know. Then there's some people in Brooklyn with like the curly mullet thing going on. So I don't know. I've seen that. Yeah, I'm trying to think. I would say it's a little bit longer. Mmm here right now for. Yes. Yeah, I was a short hair is kind of out right now. Yeah. Which we have I mean, it's not out.
It's just Is not like trendier. Like I don't think you would be lame or so yeah. Oh no. Yeah, you're a loser. No, it's just like, what is the hairdo of right now? I don't know. Yeah. Have to really think on never know when you're in a, that's true. I know, I remember literally, like this time period. I thought there was no fashion. I remember thinking that was, like, there's no style. Oh, I know. Like there's just nothing. We just In clothing. That's what I thought. Yeah, in the 2000.
Yeah, I mean. Yeah. Me too. I was like we're just normal now. Yes. Wear shirts and like there's nothing. There's nothing. Interesting is just plain shirts and pants and I was like, oh 2000. I know. So introducing that perspective to really see it. But okay, here's some evidence that I'll show you. So this is like, you know, right After High School, Musical comes out some promo thing that given us are hugging, but he's also hug. Doing what the fuck Ashley Tisdale?
Ashley Tis. I think Ashley Tisdale love Zac Efron over more on that to come like this, okay? Don't be a theme throughout. She have any interesting relationships. I don't know. I don't think so. Okay Harvey. Here's even more. So, in High School, Musical won an Emmy and their photos of whole, exact, in Vanessa kissing the Emmy. Look at his hair, he looks kind
of emo there. I know he had black hair for Lincoln hairspray at that time, but seems look at this picture where exact and then I started thinking saying, and Ashley is just like behind them. Hey cream. Yeah, interesting. Interesting, a she's never far away. I need to re watch these movies. You do. I was watching Clips online, so fall of 2006 September High School.
Musical is finally premiering in the UK for the first time and an article for the Digital Spy comes out, interviewing the High School Musical cast in asks these questions. So, the interviewer says, just moving away from High School Musical for a second bit of personal question, but are any of you in relationships at the moment and all three of like the main guys from High School, Musical said, No, at the same time and then, Lucas Gabriel who played Ryan has good.
Musical said, we're so busy with all this stuff and running around trying to keep a career together. Well, not keep a career together, start a career, basically, it's a really, it's really tough to devote even more time to somebody else. And I wouldn't want to do that to anybody in Corbin. Bleu said, I agree, I date, but I don't have a girlfriend. I can't make the time or the commitment. And then Zach, said to Corbin. Yeah. You just sleep around.
There's only girls back in his hotel room. Right now they're like 17 years and then the interviewer says and Zack, you kept quiet there. I'm surprised that you're not with anyone at the moment. And Zach says, oh, thank you. I take that as a compliment. And then Vanessa's, there she goes, I'm not surprised. And laughs.
And then Zach said, oh, I'd be with two beautiful girls that I'm sitting with what, what, meaning Vanessa and Ashley is and then the interviewer said, I was going to say and then that goes, no, we're all too close of friends. Ed's. And Ashley says, we're like brothers and sisters. No, but why is like, he's saying, we're too close of friends. You actually are supposedly. Dating Vanessa. Hmm, that's interesting. And then the interview said, one
big happy family. Did you know, each other before high school musical at all. And Vanessa goes, yeah. Me and Ashley are dating and laughs. And Lucas says, Ashley. And I knew each other, when we actually, and I knew each other, when we were like four years old back in New York, We both grew up on the east coast and Ashley says, I was a link to everybody in Corbin says, I knew pretty much everyone except for Lucas Ashley says, again, I knew
Corbin when I was younger. I knew exact for three years, because of a friend who was on Summerland with him. And I knew Vanessa, me and Vanessa did a commercial together, another human being who's not here, but she was on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody on the Disney Channel and that on the Disney Channel that I'm on. And I just didn't know, Lucas, which is funny because Lucas literally said he knew Ashley because when they were four years old.
Yeah, what's up with that? I know, but I just, I know, I include this, just to say here, I feel like Ashley Tisdale not that. This is about Ashley, but she's trying to like prove that like she knows everybody and you know, she's in yeah, this is like, I don't know just trying to be a little bit of a know-it-all. Yeah, I can see that. And a little possessive over Zach, I think because she knew him first.
What the heck is going on. So, the High School Musical cast Then goes on tour for High School, Musical the concert? Oh, I remember that. Yeah, Zach doesn't go on to work because he is filming hairspray. He also can't sing the song. Yeah, I've, I've done thought that was because he couldn't sing. Yeah, I think it's a little bit about so he's replaced by Drew Seeley. Who actually sang the songs in High School Musical? Zack goes to Canada to film hairspray during this timeframe.
September through December and he does a Q&A with Seventeen magazine. And the interviewer, says everyone talks about your on-screen chemistry with Vanessa Hudgens. Do you believe in that kind of chemistry love at first sight and he goes Sorry because well love at first sight, I don't know. But of course, I believe in two people. Having chemistry right away. I connect with people on a daily basis. Hmm kind of dismissive.
Yeah. Then the interviewer says oh it's like he's a fill in the blank so it's our kind of answer a question but where did in first person? So if I like a girl, what's the idea of a perfect date? And he says, honestly, I really don't remember ever being in a situation where I was like, I like this girl and I need Take her out on a date and then sitting down and planning. What to do? It's usually more like we're talking on the phone and I'm like do you want to hang out?
And then we're just hanging out, I'm not sitting there and thinking now we're on a date. You know we're just hanging out very teenage. I know it's really not room. And yeah and whenever he's asked questions like about dating and love, I would say, for my perception, I didn't write most of them down, but I would say he's very dismissive and not a chivalrous guy like you. You're staying? Yeah, he is very low-key chill. We're just hanging out, okay?
So December of 2006, six vacuum Vanessa attend. What appears like a sponsored Billboard Music Awards after party hosted by K Jewel, Jewel years, where they are photographed together like holding merchandise enough. So not like too legit but that in 2007 January the say okay music video premieres. Which exact plays Vanessa's love interest in the music video to remember that know, they're like on swings and stuff. Like he's just in the music
video. Hmm. And our rep for Vanessa tells AOL music that this was their official coming out as a couple. Interesting. During this time to Vanessa is still on tour with the rest of the High School, Musical cast February zakah. Vanessa, had back to Utah to start filming High School, Musical 2. At a golf resort there because in the oh yeah, second one there like at a country club.
Mmm. And there's a big big pressure form from Disney for High School, Musical 2 to be the hit that it was just as big of a hit as the first movie. Yeah, meanwhile, Zacks career outside of High School. Musical is really blowing up way more than anybody else's.
And so he's given permission by Disney, to leave the set of High School, Musical 2, and attend auditions and tell The New York Times, personally I feel no competition with the cast because I'm not going for the same things that they are. A lot of them are doing T, music, things and tours, various TV deals in other Disney TV movies, and Disney albums.
That's the last thing I want to be doing at the moment, I'm setting my sights a little bit higher, I don't have an album coming out that's really big, I know, little higher. That's the last thing I want to do in all these cheap. Disney thing I know he's just like it's supposed girlfriend literally has an album coming out but I'm glad he didn't do now. Boom means because I don't think the world needed that the world didn't I?
Okay, I don't know. It must be a thing about being a kid or being a teenager but the hairspray. Soundtrack still is stuck in my head all the time. Like it means out ingrained in me. I listen to it so much. It's like insane. I love High School Musical. And we know that is gold hairspray. I mean, I still get his dog in my head, literally. The other day, I was walking home from your place. In my head. I had the song that's like a big blond and beautiful.
I can hear the bells. I get that one. Second my hug. I haven't even washed it like since middle school. We should be the one. Oh wait wait wait. It's like a credit song, I think, um, I know we've come so far, I've got so far to go. I'd answer that in there and my dance recital seaweed. Hey, mama hey, mama. Look around. Yeah, every I love Harrisburg, I'm doing the 60s. Well, uh, of this house since 1951.
Yeah. Okay. But did exactly have that much of a hit Besides hairspray at the time, we know he's done more since then. Well, he's working on other stuff at this time that like nobody else is really doing like Vanessa actually won't have like any other major motion film until I think like 2009 but Zach is like not just hairspray but he's doing auditions and stuff and he is in 17 again. And oh yeah, just has a lot of other projects and it seems like he's like very in demand like he
is the it boy. Yes. Star and not that Vanessa is not, but they're still, like, doing the Disney stuff and he obviously has potential outside of that. We know. Now, what we didn't know then is during this time of High School, Musical 2 Zach and the rest of the High School Musical cast starts like really experimenting with the LA party scene and just
partying a lot. And during this time Zach, I think had a lot of pressure from No, the outside world and all these possibilities put on him being in this position. And so later on, like this would kind of be the start of where like addiction issues. Oh no, I Rise for him, but we don't know that until many years later. So, mmm, it does seem like he's like, in the prime of his life
right now. Hmm. So other things that year in, March, they're photographed together backstage, at the Kids. Choice Awards. Just hanging out in April after filming High School Musical 2 zakah. Vanessa. Go on. A vacation together in Hawaii. A very luxurious Hotel well and they're photographed splashing around in the water and kissing just them older. They they're like 18 my God. I think here's a picture of them in the water at the Resort's. Yeah.
So this is like kind of obvious. They're getting. But the pictures are suspiciously too perfect. Yeah, I know what you mean. So they look like models. Look at his six-pack there. I know. It's a beautiful guy. A few weeks later, there was a rumor that document has had actually broken up, but it wasn't true and may Vanessa, and the rest of the High School, Musical cast, go to South America for the international concert tour. So, they're super busy.
And I want to say that Zach had accompanied Vanessa partially for this tour, but I don't really have evidence. But I think on this cup of podcast that I listened to with Vanessa, she was telling a story about like, being in Brazil with Zac Efron and I don't know, like when else they would have gone to Brazil. So I feel like interesting there with her. Yeah. Just my little detective work, at least has some point. Yeah, they're in these all together. Yeah. Otherwise we don't really know
when that happened. So June Zach, Vanessa go to the MTV Movie Awards together and in photos, they're pretty close. These can see, I don't know. It's like the body language. He's very leaned into her. He is there data clothes and June 24th. Zach of Vanessa are photographed wearing matching friendship, bracelets bracelets both on their herb. Friendship, rings. I'm sorry both on their right index fingers and adjusting
later. On Zach says in an interview that they say the Hawaiian word for sweetheart on them and that Vanessa gave it to him. Gotten in Hawaii, they're big in
those chalk tropical trips. We got a little redundant, they get rid of time with you have July hairspray premieres and they each arrived separately to the premiere but our seem to get there once they are inside and People magazine reports after the pair held hands as they navigated their way through the after-party at the Ackerman Union on the UCLA campus.
Which I had been transformed into an ultra-modern blue and white Lounge. Each hairspray Star had his or her own table, and Efron's. He and Vanessa were joined by their fellow High School, Musical Alum, Ashley Tisdale. Mmm, but Efron bombarded by fans, requesting photos and Industry types. Eager to take shake. His hand was far too busy to socialize with his Pals or even scarf down a cheeseburger and when asked about the attention, he was getting that night. Zack said, there's a lot of
females out here today. What can I say on and Enjoy myself. Yeah, I don't know why. It's just a it's a little thing of mine. I know other people won't feel this way. I don't like when people call a bunch of women female, I think it's like actually offensive. I think people say that if they do something, a little misogynistic about it, I don't know why it feels like you're talking about frogs or some. Yeah, it's like, it's like if you called people Homo sapiens.
Yeah. A bunch of females just sounds pretty, too. Like not humanizing, no heat. No hate on Zac Efron. But yeah, because I do feel like people don't say that like males. Like there's a lot of males. Yeah. Bunch of miles outside. Yeah. I don't like it. It's not like it. Once again I don't think Zach is romantic like a chivalrous man would say there's a lot of women here, so that beautiful women. Yeah, beautiful. Women are a lot of ladies here, female There's some females here, anyway.
And when Ashley Tisdale has asked about all the attention that is on. Zack. She goes, he's hot. I remember when he got the role, I was like, that's so cool. He reminds me of John Travolta. Oh my god. Oh yeah. I just wanted to like he's hot. I don't I don't know if I trust Ashley but maybe but I say that about your co-star, I know. But okay, here's the thing. Ashley is like best. And Vanessa and Vanessa doesn't seem fazed by, like all the attention that Ashley give Zach. Hmm.
And there's even more like, this is just the tip of the iceberg, really, okay. But there's something fishy going on here. I'm just saying maybe Ashley just has a crass personality or something. Yeah, it may be just very friendly to but yeah. And let me just show you a picture of Zach and Vanessa at the after-party, they look like a couple like, you know, they're facing each other. Yeah, posing in words. Yeah unfortunately you guys can't see pictures because this
is a podcast. You can Google it and August High School Musical 2 comes out. So very busy summer and at the premiere once again sack of Vanessa pose very much like a couple. Here's a picture for you. Style that they're doing, she's in like a beautiful ball gown, and he's in like jeans and yeah, it doesn't seem like they have the same style.

And Vanessa is asked about his shirtless cover by Ryan Seacrest. And she says, I think he looks hot. The girls like it. And when asked, if it bothers her, Her. She says, no. I mean like ice cream along too.
Hmm. And in the article, when asked about Vanessa. So this is what the article says Efron hesitates for a moment then decides to answer the weird thing that no one expected about Vanessa, is that underneath such a sweet girl? This Gabriella type character is a very, very sexy woman. Hmm. I don't think anyone was prepared for that. He pauses and awkwardly ads as if he said too much. So that's just Humorous thing, then something odd happens.
Without even being asked about Ashley Tisdale his other co-star in High School Musical. He begins talking about her. Since we started High School Musical you watch Ashley grow up to she's maturing and turning into a very, very pretty girl. Just funny the way that everything works out what I found turns red and asked if the silver band on his hand is a commitment ring. I'm not even going to say who it's from. He says that's just a ring from
a friend that I got commitments. It is way too weird, a word for me. Right now, I'm wearing it for a friend, a female friend. It is a female friend, but I can't say who because then it would be a chatroom fandemonium and teen magazine, hysteria. Yeah. Oh my God. What the heck? I know, it's just weird. How you brings up Ashley and he's blushing. Oh, what's going on there? See again, this is why I think that like the Disney channel is kind trying trying to tease. Yeah, I remember.
Brothers, time like opening, a Bot Magazine, and sometimes seeing a Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale poster, and sometimes seeing as Zac Efron, and Vanessa Hudgens, put yeah, how do you think that goes down, like some kind of executive or Kenny Ortega? All right, now, we're don't know who the heck like a PR person like says his act. Like make sure you mention Ashley, maybe who knows that. But then like what's his incentive? Even like you know, why would he even do it?
I don't know, I guess the create like if People have to pick a side, they're like even more into it. Yeah not gonna buy the magazines are going to get the stuff just as a teen. I feel like he's young like maybe he thinks he has to or something. But like why would he even listen to them? I know he gonna get paid for something. I don't know. Yeah. depends on this or I don't know. Maybe I mean I didn't imagine like if you're that young your maybe impressionable just by what any executives are telling you. I mean, I don't even know if that's the case. But just seems like, as I remember there was Ashley fans and Vanessa, who's he playing into both fandoms? Same. Hmm, that's so weird. Hmm. I know why you'd be as Ashley fan. No funds to Ashley Tisdale.
But yeah, I do when I watch High School Musical at wasn't rooting for sharp eye and Troy. But yeah. Okay. So this is big September 3rd. 2007 People magazine publishes an entire cover story like that. Document us are on the cover of People magazine and the title is high school sweethearts. And they explain to everybody what Vanessa is the right hellos and Essa for their millions of fans. The young love between Efron and Hudgens. Just adds to the generation riveting, appeal of the High School, Musical movies, the biggest thing to happen to teen love. Rory since grease - grease is smoking drinking and teen pregnancy, like Teen, Idols from a gentler era, Efron and Hodgins get get spotted out, buying Pinkberry frozen yogurt, not stumbling out of nightclubs. They hit the gym together and join fellow cast members for
movie nights. So I feel like they're trying to paint it like, you know, they're together but like there's it's much more wholesome than. Yeah, I'm seen in the past very innocent. Mmm. But is it real? Ali. I know in the article, it once again I feel like Zack is a little bit like dismissive of High School Musical. He says he's quoted in the article saying but for now or
no, the article says. But for now both are focused on work Hodgins dreams of playing Maria and West Side Story while Efron could use a break from the chick flick stuff, a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Rocky and Bourne movies. If you like to be in something he'd actually watch, as he told times of High School, Musical I couldn't get through the first one. Oh my God. Mmm, mmm. I know he's like trying to be a cool guy. And the article is saying Zach.
He was a self-professed nerd, and straight A student and that Vanessa admits preferring shopping to hitting the books and that both had their first kiss around fifth grade. And then there's a whole paragraph about how Zack like sleeps on a mattress on the floor and like, buys all of his clothes from Goodwill. And how Vanessa has like expensive shoes, and like three walk-in closets, like, I feel like they're really trying to paint this interesting exception
of them. Yeah, razak is like cool laid-back, like, casual guy and Vanessa is like superficial and a little bit dumb almost. Yeah. But I kind of get the funds ekstam. I know me too. I don't know. Like, I don't see Zack as a reader actually. I Vanessa must be like, kind of smart, but anyway, so then, there's like sources in the article, who knows what this is
like. This could all just be like, very much like, you know, their publicist feedings but Source number one, is a hostess at a restaurant that they went to, in Salt Lake City saying that they were sitting on each other's laps and holding hands at the restaurant. Mmm Source. Number two, is someone on the production of the movie, High School Musical. Who said if you didn't know that they were Dating. You wouldn't know, they were dating. They're really good at not being obvious Source.
Number three is actually Monique Coleman. Yes. Two people fell in love. Who cares. We're good. Friends, who cares and Source number four, is someone also working on High School Musical explaining why their relationship has been kept a secret up until now like the keep denying. And now you're just like, it's supposed to believe that they're together. True. And they said, first of all, they are so young still. Jurors. But it's also the classic teen Idol thing.
It kills the fantasy when a teenage girl knows her Idol has a girlfriend. Ironically the fan seem to be accepting their relationship. I think because it goes along with the story line in the movie. Hmm. The Source also adds that she's more intense and he's more laid back and says he's at her whim. Hmm, interesting. I do think when you're working together, whether it's movie or even like an office like I don't know. No, I think you're inclined to, for some reason. Keep a secret.
I don't know why she's like, oh, especially when you're younger. Like, what? If it doesn't work out? Like, I don't know if we want to tell everybody that together, if it's like, just the beginning, that's true. I guess, I guess I feel like I'm just suspicious of like, when they're a say, like straight out to Inayat. So, yeah, but it was weird. They are young too. So he probably is not a good idea to like tell the world you're dating someone when you're like 16. That's so annoying. I know.
Oh my goodness. So September 15, 2007 and see Australian premiere of hairspray Vanessa cancels. An appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. So she can travel to Australia to be with Zach and she posed on the red carpet with him and then September 6th just three days after this People magazine article cover story about zakah, Vanessa, and how they're such this like whole Awesome, couple of today, teen sweethearts. Just three days later.
Nude photos, leaked of Vanessa, and this was like, this is the first time it had ever happened to anybody. Basically, if this is the first time of like the age of like cell phones and yeah, I don't know. I think she's the first person to go through this.
Let me god. Her publicist publicist released a statement that the photos have been taken privately and that it was unfortunate that the photos had been leaked and Vanessa released an apology saying, I want to apologize to my fans who supported Trust mean, the world to me. I'm embarrassed over the situation and regret having ever taken these photos. My God. Mmm. And a lot of people thought that Vanessa would get dropped from the High School, Musical 3 movie. But Disney said, Vanessa has
apologized for what she was. Obviously a lapse in judgment. We hope she's learned a very valuable lesson, which is crazy because now, like, people wouldn't blame the person. I know also Vanessa, at the time of these photos, like, when they had Taken. She was like 16 years old so it's like pretty bad. Yeah well it kind of like not good I know I should not even say this but what was their ND? My thing was there any indication? That's that kind of anything to do with these pictures.
Like know. So the photos are actually been taken years previous. Oh yeah and supposedly Vanessa had sent them. To Drake Bell and Josh passed by God after guest starring. Yeah after guest starring on a 2006 episode of Jake, both of them supposedly but I think mostly Drake Bell and it's a rumor looks like trick. I think it's rumored that Drake allegedly. Leaked the photos. That's the wrong. And I believe it because Drake Bell, like he's turned out to be
quite the cream. Yeah. Wait, did she send them to both Drake and Josh? What sources sources of them to Drake? And then he sent them to Josh sources. Say that she sent them to both Drake and Josh. Very weird. I know, but I think she sent them to Drake but that's like widely known that does that. Who's in them to do the people people? I let's see which one of them. Yeah. But I think it was like I think she had a thing with Drake Bell. Mmm. And yeah.
Drake Bell's, like, quite the creep he was arrested for like child endangerment like not too long ago. Like does that even mean? I think he was like trying to get with like a teenager. I'm with my family, I'm with my six-year-old sister, it was just one of those times and I was like, I just want to die and I was so young. It just felt very unfair and I take full responsibility for all my actions, but it just messed up how, it's not even your choice anymore. What people receive of you and your image at the time that had happened. It was brand-new. I was like, I don't want to step. On any toes. I just want peace and love. I just want to make this go away.

While in Utah, they attend an NBA playoffs game between the Utah Jazz and the LA Lakers with Vanessa or Ashley Tisdale, but their photograph sitting Courtside, and just like cuddling and looking cute. Mmm, June, Vanessa is interviewed for Cosmo girl, and the reporter writes about Zach entering the room during the interview and rights. I says also asked to give relationship advice and says if you really love someone you shouldn't have to work at it. You finish each other's sentences and have the same sense of humor. You have to think it through not just do something spur of the moment so that after it happens. You won't regret it. I think girls can be infatuated with their boyfriends and they have to remember to put themselves first, This week and they go to the MTV Movie Awards.
Also together July once again they're on another tropical trip. They go to Turks and Caicos and I've heard a graft making out on the beach and he was some pictures. Oh wow, she's straddling him. I guess you just don't go down that Heidi and Spencer Pratt kind of role where your something doing shots on a beach together and try to do picnics together and obviously, very important. You not to be in the public eye and when it comes to your private life, there's a very obvious trend in this industry and the more public your personal life becomes the more your professional career. Issues and I don't want to fall victim to that.
Interesting. Hmm. Seems to be taking his career quite seriously. He is. I would say, I like again, I think there's so much pressure on Zack. Hmm. I mean, he's a boy, but that's not sustainable. So, I have just I've said this to you in real life, many times, I think, but never on the show, I've just say about like, um, fake relationships are PR relationships. I do think some probably are, literally like a contract, you know.
It is like, literally PR, but I do think there's like another version of quote, fake relationship where it is real, but like, mmmm, they just feel may be pressured to be together. Maybe longer than they would have, or not saying it's about second Vanessa. I agree. I just think that can be almost thick but not really but like, you know, they probably do like each other. I'm not even talk about them specifically, but like, if we ever talk about couples that, Are they real was a PR.
I think there's like a middle where they are together, but maybe their reasons for staying together aren't like on the same as you know, normal people. Yeah, exactly. I mean, even normal people have like ulterior motives and times to stay together and then you're like Is that real? But I mean also I would think that a lot of couples just take advantage of the relationship and use it for publicity. It's kind of interesting Zach's answer because it's like The opposite, it's okay.
If I took advantage of this relationship like it would hurt my career. Hmm. And I can see that side of it because like, part of his career is for people to like, be into him. Yeah. And when she'd mentioned his name, she was like I was dating Zac Efron and it's like, she's like I'm not kind of embarrassed it name, drop him. Yeah. And then finally, like, the last thing I have to say is that Vanessa recently shared a video of her in front of the Salt Lake City.
School where they filmed High School Musical. Wow. And a month later zag posted a picture of himself in front of the same school. That's interesting. Hmm, they just both go incidentally one there. Yeah so like I mean I think there probably is some type of thing for like High School Musical the musical to series or something. Maybe does it take place at the same school? Yeah. Wait really I've never seen it.
Yeah. Because also the girl who plays Martha and High School Musical. You know, the girl who loves hip-hop. Oh yeah, she was also at the school. Oh, okay. But they all went there for some reasons. We're just some reason, so they prop. I'm guessing is that given us over there together? Yeah. Hmm, wonder if they spoke, I know. Wow. And that's it. That's it. That is Zac Efron, Vanessa, Hudgens. But he hasn't had as long of a relationship since Vanessa and I feel like years later especially with everything he's gone through and stuff, I don't know. I'm just saying that.
