Episode description

This relationship didn’t happen before Priscilla—or after. No, it happened smack dab in the middle. Ann-Margret was Elvis’s “other woman” that 2021’s Elvis movie failed to mention.

But she wasn’t just the other woman. Ann-Margret was the “Queen of Las Vegas,” and the “Female Elvis,” the star of acclaimed movies like Bye-Bye Birdie and Carnal Knowledge. She said her and Elvis were “soulmates” and “kindred spirits,” and Elvis seemingly never moved on from their relationship.

What did Ann-Margret know about Priscilla? Who really was the love of Elvis’ life? And we ask the age-old question…can you really love two people at the same time?

And I'm Mel. And thank you for joining us for a very special bonus episode. Thank you to all of our new subscribers. Hope you'll stick around. Thank you to our longtime subscribers. You know who you all are. And this is coming out a week before Valentine's Day. So happy Valentine's Day. Maybe you're listening to it late. Maybe you're listening on Valentine's Day. I don't know. But this is a this is an interesting episode. This is an episode about the

other woman. An affair, You could say, well, wait, does it? Is it an affair? Yeah. Is it an affair if two people aren't married and then someone's cheating? Yeah. Yeah. I think so. Yeah. Yeah. I thought so, but just I mean. Sometimes terminology is so weird, like sometimes people use the term phrase single for not married. I know they always. That's what it is. They always do that in 80s movies and 90s movies. They're like, well, is he single?

He's not married. Like, OK, what if he has a girlfriend? That doesn't matter to you. Yeah, I remember, I mean years ago and she's probably not listening. One of our cousins who at the time had a pretty serious boyfriend of like 4 years. Her older sister got married and then she posted our cousin whose older sister got married. She posted a photo with our uncle, her father and the caption was his last single daughter, meaning last. Unmarried daughter.

I remember thinking at the time if I was her boyfriend of four years, I would feel odd. I know she was called herself single online. I'm like. He was at the wedding. That is interesting. Maybe she was putting the pressure on him. I don't know. No, probably not. She was younger. But yeah, I've always thought that was strange. But this, yeah, I'll say this is

an affair. And it is between Mr. Elvis Presley and Ann Margaret. And we covered Elvis a couple months ago, Elvis and Priscilla. And I originally wanted to do Elvis and and Margaret first because, well, my dad suggested it to me and I I take his advice seriously. And I thought it was interesting because I've obviously heard of Elvis and Priscilla and I thought, oh, I don't know anything about him and and Margaret.

And of course, like Elvis, the king of rock'n'roll, like I'd Why would I think that he was only with one woman his whole life? You know, I only knew about Priscilla. So I wanted to do him an Anne. But then nice naively thought, and if anybody's like an Elvis expert listening, you'll think I'm stupid.

But I naively thought that he dated Anne Margaret before Priscilla. But then I learned that he dated her in the middle of his relationship with Priscilla, so that made it pretty scandalous and intriguing. So this is about Elvis and Ann Margaret, who many people believe was actually like the love of his life. I mean, people debate about that, but people think that he really loved Ann Margaret the most. Is that true? I don't know. We'll find out. But before we get started, how

are you feeling, Mel? I know you've you've been sick. You had the flu, right? I did. I'm feeling a lot better. My I'm still a little measly, so my voice might sound a little weird and might sneeze a little bit, but other than that I'm I'm pretty good. Mel is such a trooper. Still recording. Hopefully it won't be too. I don't know too much, but yeah, so it's pretty interesting because we did Elvis and

Priscilla recently. I'm going to kind of like cross reference the research I already did on him and Priscilla and fit it into the timeline, you know, like what she was up to while all of this is going on. And the questions I'm kind of thinking about in this episode is did Ann Margaret know about Priscilla? Did she know that Priscilla was literally living at Graceland while this relationship was going on? And how did Elvis really feel about in Margaret? Was she the one or was

Priscilla? And can you love people? Can you love two people at the same time? Oh. Good question. I should have asked our listeners that I forgot to do a poll shoot. I bet if you write it right now, by the end of this episode, there will be responses. Should I? Do it. Should it Be Can You Love? How should I phrase it? Do you think it's possible to be in love with two people at the same time? OK, that's such a good idea Mel I bet cause some of you guys are so fast.

You're so. Fast answering these polls. Within 10 seconds there will be responses. Poll time. That would be fun too, at the very end of the episode, to go back and. You can be in love, yes. OK. Do you think you can be in love with two people at the same time? Yep. Yes or no? Yes or no? Yep. Yes or no? Yes or no? You got a pic? I kind of think yes. I kind of think yes too, but my younger my younger self would have been like freaking out

right now if she heard. Me say that I kind of think yes, and I think because it's probably two different types of love that you feel, you probably feel like a different person when you're with each person. Yeah. Does that mean it's right to cheat on somebody? No. No, no. But I think you can still feel that. It just depends on, like, what you do with it, you know? All right. Yeah.

I asked the question. We'll see by the end of the episode what people think before we get into it. 3 words that I would use to describe this relationship. Well, OK, It's actually 4 because my first word is kindred spirits. There's 2 words. But you know what we don't have? I feel like there isn't a one word, one word that conveys that feeling. So kinder spirits, my next word is fantasy. And my third word is doomed. All right, I will have to stop

the episode right there. Thank you so much for listening to the teaser. If you want to hear the full episode and many other bonus episodes, you can find them on Patreon.
