We are talking about today Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg. I need to say I have to say Brittany, if you're listening, this is for you.
My friend Brittany listens to every episode. She's so sweet and she has requested this couple many times to me. She even sent me a text with like her ideas on it. And then she has brought it up a couple times. So I felt bad that we had never done it. And now we finally are. So I know it's your episode, Kate, but I want to dedicate it to Britain. Well, I've also been requesting this couple I remember. Oh, you.
Have when I was in a host, I'd be like, oh dude, Whoopi and Ted, even though I didn't really know much we. Were like. No, I knew that they dated well, you guys just never did and since I run the YouTube account I had them in the intro even though we've never covered them. Or they. Weren't even. They were always in the intro and now that I'm finally a host, I'm covering them. But Kate? What 3 words would you use to describe this couple today?
Yes. So the three words I'd use describe are messy, breathe, and then controversial. Oh God. OK. I think I know. I know a little bit about why they're controversial, but I'm, I don't, I have never really looked into them that much, so I'm excited. Even if you did look into them, which this was a problem, I found, it's so hard to find information about them online.
Like impossible. I know you guys have said before, like in the Dolce and Gabbana episode, that like the 80s and 90s are really hard time to research for. Like it's the dark ages. Oh, it's so hard and it's so true. It's so accurate. I've never hit this roadblock before, but it it's hard. Yeah, it's kind of a problem. I feel like. I don't know who's going to do this, but like the National Archive or something, I don't know.
We need to get if people have kept their magazines from the 80s and 90s, like we need to get them scanned, you know, we need get some. Digitized because. Really. Because I feel like there is stuff from like the. 60s there, there is, yeah. Like there's stuff from the 80s and 90s, but yeah, nobody's turned it into an archive except for maybe like some bigger publications, but they don't have all, like even People
magazine. You either need a subscription to some kind of service or they only have select years or something. And People do have magazines online and like eBay and you have to pay for and you could do that. And I tried and I'll talk, but it's. Not like every single but. Yeah, but you need like every and there's some some magazines that went out of print and now you cannot find anything about
them. Yeah. And. The reason why the other decades earlier in the 20th century are easier are because it's far enough away that enough people have written books about that time period. There's actually like a lot that's out there, but for some reason there's just, it's like we're too close to it for the 80s and 90s.
But I feel like while all these people are still alive for the most part, we need to have people coming out and like talking to primary sources and documenting this information down for history's sake. Yeah, like. Exactly, Ted. Danson, he had a biography written about him, but it's out of print and impossible to get your hands on. Like, I don't think you can find it anywhere. So the only other option would be to like, read his memoir, but he doesn't have a memoir, so
that made it really hard. So it's impossible the way. You worded that to read his memoir, but he doesn't. Have one. You could read his memoir. If he had one but you're. Saying like memoirs are kind of biased, so. Yeah, but it's giving some information about their life. It's a source. Whoopi, on the other hand, she does have a memoir, multiple of
them, in fact. And she has many biographies, but when I read them, I found that they weren't really that helpful for researching the relationship as much as Teds and memoirs of biographies are. Which is to say, like, not helpful at all because in her books, Whoopi completely glosses over her time with Ted or doesn't mention it at all and soon goes with the biographies about her.
They'll mention Ted offhandedly, or if they do dwell on it, it'll be like a paragraph or like a page, and it doesn't really provide that much information, so. Weird. Basically all that to say that when you listen to this episode, you'll just hear me say over and over again that I don't know blank or blank or anything about their relationship in this regard or whatever.
And just know that this is the reason why that it's just so hard to research for them because of this weird black hole that surrounds the 80s in the 90s online. Yeah. So it's, forgive me, that's not going to be the most comprehensive episode. I'm sure there's probably information I could find in some magazine or newspaper that's in somebody's garage just rotting away at the bottom of A at the bottom of a box or something, but I don't have that information. But Kate, we. Trust we.
Trust and know that you turned over every leaf that you possibly could and have. Searched. For and why for information. So this is probably gonna be the most comprehensive take on the couple that is out there on the Internet. So they're interested in it. Couple yeah, they'll mention this a bit later, but the amount of eBay sellers I reached out to Oh.
My God. The magazines they had on Whoopi and Ted, so so we I was on a time crunch so I couldn't get them to send it to me 'cause it wouldn't come in time. So it's like I'll pay you X amount of money, I'll pay you however much you want if you just scan it or take a picture and send it to me, Take a picture of the article, send it to me, anything. And only one of them got back to me and agreed to do it. Only one. Did you pay them? Yes, I did pay that first. Come on. That's dedication.
It was $5, which isn't that much. I needed. The information. They're still going to make money off selling the print version. Exactly. And they can just put the magazine back up for sale and sell the physical version. Yeah, I didn't know why no one else is hopping on this opportunity, but nobody wants to make money on eBay, I guess. Anyway I. Appreciate your dedication. Yes. All right, I will have to stop the episode right there. Thank you so much for listening to the teaser.
