Episode description

We spend most of our time talking about personal illness, but this week we dive into the world of Social illness with none other than the wise and poignant Dr. Ingrid Waldron. Dr. Waldron is the author of the book, There's Something in the Water: Environmental Racism in Indigenous and Black Communities. The book was also the inspiration for the Netflix Documentary by the same name. It examines the legacy of environmental racism and its health impacts in Indigenous and Black communities in Canada, using Nova Scotia as a case study, and the grassroots resistance activities by Indigenous and Black communities against the pollution and poisoning of their communities. This conversation is an important one. Sit down, open up your ears and your hearts and enjoy!
