Episode description

We seek acceptance in the Love Me section this week. In real life, Sarah tells us all about her TwitchCon experience while Joe finally finishes Scavengers Reign. We didn’t play Baulders Gate this week so we got recommendations! In Skip Beat, Kyoko joins LME. She gets assigned as the only member of the Love Me section, a thinly disguised attempt to make her do grunt labor. Her first major assignment is to protect the last Japanese Idol, Ruri, from the sun. Will she be able to achieve this daunting task without major injury? No, the answer is no.

Hello beloved listeners and welcome back to show Joe the podcast where I Sarah go through show Joe series with my friend Joe who is our newcomer to the genre Joe. You hear that? That's me twisting off the cap of a chorus light because we are recording at night time. We're adults. We're drunk when we record. We're grown up. We drink. We can't. That's right. Yeah. So this will be our second episode covering skip beat. Did not extend that bit. It was just like it happened and then it's over.

Well, yay. Alcohol. That's right. We love alcohol here. Not really, but you know, kind of taste bad. Beer. Well, you just need to not drink the worst stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Like the quality, the quality is important. Apparently that matters. Yes. Unsurprisingly, I would say. Yeah. Yeah. I guess. Have you been up to anything? I feel rusty. It's only been like two days over our normal duration of time between recordings. I feel off. You feel off like you're hosting. Is that because I don't know.

I don't know. Today. I don't know. Yeah. You took an app right before this because I was ready to record after work and you're like, oh, cool. I'm going to take a nap for three hours and then I it's like late now. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I have been doing stuff. I've been doing quite a bit of stuff. Well, I've mostly been watching stuff.

I finally finished scavengers rain, which I talked about a long time ago, but I never got around to finishing it and I waited so long that it moved off of HBO and onto Netflix, but then I got Netflix to watch Kimi Nitsudoke, so now I can watch it and I did and I watched it and it was really cool. Good. Unsurprisingly, after having watched the first three episodes, it remains cool throughout. So that was really good. Nice. I also, what else? I watched something else.

Am I going to recommend it because we didn't play Baldur's Gate 3, so we're not going to have that segment. Yeah. Well, we also debated if that segment's too long. Oh, you just don't like the segment. I see how it is. I just say you said it. Like, well, it's too long. We can't do this every time. We can't do it every time. Well, we can't do it every time because we don't play every week. Shut up. I know.

And maybe we'll play for a while because somebody is going to be enraptured by a game that's going to come out soon. Yeah. And has already told me in advance that they're not going to play Baldur's Gate 3 with me while they're playing this other game because I guess that takes priority. Yeah. It's probably. I mean, I'm sorry. I've said it before. Selfish. I've been waiting for this game. It's coming out. It takes priority all over all other things in life.

Cool. Yeah. So I'll still record the podcast though. So you'll have a little bit of Sarah still to look forward to in your week. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I know you're devastated because you're super into Baldur's Gate. Oh, let me meet my phone. I'm not going to remember the plot. Well, luckily we haven't gotten that far. It's just weird gross things in our brain. In a cold situation brewing. Okay. And let's see. But I was, well, more than, more tired than normal.

I was tired today because I got back from San Diego yesterday because I was at TwitchCon for the weekend for work. And I had to take a very early flight because I had a thing to get back into town for, which was watching Avatar, the last airbender being played by a, I guess, orchestra. And they like play the music from like season one to season three and show clips and stuff. And it was really cool. You know, goosebumps inducing.

I definitely cry because of course they put in the part from Tales of Bossing, say where Uncle Iroh is singing. Oh, God, I was sleeping. The girls next to me were sobbing. And it was cool. I know my brother is like embarrassed to be there with me. I think my kid brother. Imagine when the live action show gets to that point. It's probably going to be just as emotionally charged. We'll see. I don't know if you can capture the same chart. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. I didn't know if you actually got through all of it. I did. I did. Actually, you know what I'm watching? I'm my friends and I are watching the live action one piece, which is actually pretty fun. Like the fight scenes are still bad. It's mostly the Luffy effects are bad. But I think all the fight scenes look pretty bad. Well, you have a much more critical eye than me. I was just like, Zoro is hot. Yay. So really is hot. I really like this. I think the actors are doing a really good job.

I like I really like the guy who plays the movie. I think he does a good job. Yeah, I think they did a very good job casting. I mean, they freaking reference broke. Was it broke works like an episode one or something? I was like, dang, that doesn't happen in the anime, but I guess they're just fast pace. Yeah. And I guess I don't know why I brought that up. Oh, no. No, that's good. I'm going to get excited like all of the all of the cartoony stuff is bad.

And all of the people who are supposed to look like cartoon characters look bad. But all of the acting is good. You know, the thing that live action is good at that part's good. The thing that it's not good at looks bad. Yeah. We nervous to be surprised of nobody chopper little maybe cute, but chopper in other phases is going to be. Oh, I've not gotten to chop. Well, he's not in season one. Oh, he's not.

Okay. I've seen like news clips of people saying first look, but it was just like a corner from behind of there's no way there's it's going to look terrible. I mean, yeah. Avatar Momo looks bad. Yeah. But that's what I'm saying, right? Because he has like the little cute version and the weird walkie one and the big muscley one. I feel like the middle one is going to be freaky looking. Yeah. So I was thinking about the live action Disney remakes of stuff. And those are all bad also.

I've only seen Cinderella, which is the first one. I saw it. Absolutely nothing new. So why would I watch it when I could just watch the animated version steps? I never saw any others. The only one that might be worth your time is the jungle book. I watched that one and it was pretty good. Okay. Well, is it all CGI or they're actual real animals that I can. Well, no, I think they're all. I think so. But like they do something different with it and it's pretty good.

Okay. Well, there's the rest of the other ones I've seen. I think it's a little bit of a trash and shouldn't have been made. And. Oh yeah. Twitch, Twitch con was cool. Which con. I would say it was like. It was fine. And. Oh, okay. Well, I mean, right? Like the comp the convention center is huge. And I feel, I feel like it was a lot of like just photo op stuff. Yeah. I do think like, I think the panels and stuff.

Were like, whatever, you know, like if you're a viewer, I think it's worthwhile, but if you're a content creator that isn't a partner, I don't know how worthwhile it is. Like they had people's faces all over the place. I was like, I don't know who any of these people are. But. It seems like a really weird thing to basic convention on because it's like a platform. Yeah. Which is like, okay. What do what do these people really have in common? I mean, technically, I guess it's not like.

There's a, any other really dedicated content creator. Here. Events like they happen to go to events based off games and stuff. Cause that's what they're making content about, but it's not like it's targeted for geared towards. Them in particular, just consumers of the thing. So. I could see. I don't know. It is fine. I met a few cool people and there was like a little bit of a. I went to that was fine. Kind of. So got like a few contacts to. Reach out to you for work purposes.

That was nice going to California and getting a. Brief. Moment of. Comfort. And then being enraged when I came back to Texas. Yeah. Live this life again. Oh man. What a shame. You can escape somehow. Yes. One day. Like every week, but one day. One day you'll move somewhere else. Yes, that's right. When I'm like a old lady, I'm like a little girl. I'm like a little girl. I'm like a little girl. I'm like a little girl. I'm like a little girl. Right?

When I'm like a old lady and it's too cold for me when I'm old, but like it's what I wanted. One day you're going to have to live your life. Yes. Yeah. It's sort of suffering through it. Yeah. Yeah, well, okay. We can't. We can just. I could just. You've got to go off. No. Well, we should. We've done this tango before on the podcast. So why don't we get to what the people are? The street is your mom watching skippy. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. She was like, I didn't think I'd be into it, but then I am.

And I watched like the first nine episodes or something. OK, well, it's going to be a while before we get to there. So we like revenge. Revenge. Oh, yeah. We like revenge. Mm hmm. Yes. Why don't you tell us about Kyoko's revenge plot this week? Well, she has a new task this week. Hmm. Skip beat. Episode four is called the Labyrinth of Reunion. I don't know. These are weird ass titles. Why? I mean, it sounds cool. Feel like I don't normally pay attention to the title of an episode.

I don't know much, but I guess in shorter series, maybe they're supposed to have more purpose. Oh, you know what we could do? I should have prepared this in advance. Tell me what? Well, you know how like last time when we were introducing a new show and it was like, this was the first that made it. Uh huh. We could go through like voice cast and talk about like who the voice cast is and if there are other stuff.

Well, we did that the end of Angelic Layers, so I guess we could just do it at the end since we did do that too far gone. OK, so we'll do that later. I'm going to look up. Oh, you're going to do that right now. I'm going to look up the voice actress for Kyoko. I'll do this one. It's pretty good of like going from chill to the right cray looks like voice actress. The Japanese voice actress is Marina Inoue. I think I'm saying that right. Maybe I'm not.

Oh, that's the last name is or he may from bleach, right? Or he may. Yeah, this is with an I, you know, weh, weh. Anyway, she plays Armin in Attack on Titan and Yoko and Gurren Lagann. OK, and somebody in Darling the Franks, because I don't know any of those characters. Which was it look like Nana? You know who that is? I don't know who that is. I don't remember. Oh, maybe she's like one of the teacher. She plays Momo in My Hero Academia, the one that can make stuff out of her skin or whatever.

Yeah, the hottie in the hot suit of credits. She does a lot of work. I mean, I'm still active. What's like the earliest thing she did? Yeah, oh, very active. I am scrolling for a long time under TV page. Somebody in Hunter, Hunter, I don't know who that is. Yeah, so in a lot of stuff, in a lot of stuff, different roles to different roles. That's right. So talented. Anyway, yeah, I'm not watching the dub. Is anybody watching the dub? Is there a dub?

Well, IMDb lists, dogs, characters, but like not in order. Yeah, I mean, they said that this is that she's voiced by Caitlin Glass in the dub. It's a familiar. She played Winery in Full Metal Octopus Brotherhood. Is there really a dub as before? I don't think the show is popular enough to get a dub. A lot of side characters and other stuff. She's a side character in the Evangelion Rebuild movie. Side character in Free Wren, whose name I don't recognize.

According to video, she plays Cammie in Street Fighter 6. She's the voice for that. OK, according to a Reddit comment four years ago, no plans to make the dub streamable is funded via Kickstarter and handled independently of larger companies like Funimation or Fizz who have the ability of doing a fushion. That's great. Wait, they kickstarted a dub? You can do that. Oh, wait, hold on. Is this real? OK, I think I have a link to dub. This is real. Oh, man, should we? Ah, you can cut this out.

Oh my God, it is Winery's voice. All right. All right, you got to link me this. Send me this link. OK, this is a good. This is a good aside to do. Yeah, listeners. Oh my God. If you have not watched that much anime and you are going to watch along with us, you will start to, especially if you're listening to the dub, you will start to recognize voice actors because they repeat very often because the community is not that large because especially at the time that this would have come out.

Oh, yeah, for sure. What is this link you're sending me? I don't know. Be wary. My brother won't even open it. Oh dear. Well, maybe it's so sketch. Hold on. Let me let me connect to my other computer. Let me remote into my other computer. So I can listen to this. But yeah, back in the day, I feel like dub happy and just dubs were like the dub online viewing platforms. Um, did you ever watch stuff on anime freak? I feel like those might go to anime site in high school.

No, I didn't watch anime in high school. Remember? Oh, right. Just to know me. Okay, what? I listen to episode four. What are you? I just I whatever. I just listened to the lab worth of reunion. I should probably do this. Let me let me leave. Let's see if I can get a little clip of it going vamp for me. I'm eating dinner. Okay, you did a terrible job. Sorry. All right, I'll just I'll just start doing the summary and it'll play when it plays.

We open in episode four on Kyoko working out a gas station. She said the video player wouldn't load. She says that it's been two days and she failed her audition, but she was able to get a new job quick. So that's good at least then the OP plays. The video isn't loading for where do you plan on playing this while working? Okay, the OP plays and then it gets when we get back while working. She thinks about how disappointed chef boss was by her quitting show. You can call him Thai show.

No, I'm calling her chef boss now by her giving up on show this so easily. Then she gets annoyed because she realizes that pretty much everything worked out how Ren said it was when he's like, well, you know, gusto can only get you so far or whatever guts or whatever thing he said. And she still hates that guy. She like the fuck that guy that guy sucks.

She contemplates trying again with a different agency, but decides that she must go to LME because the whole point is to upstage show and she can't do that if she goes anywhere else. We get a bit where she imagined show groveling after her when she gets into LME. So it's cute back in Darriama boss couple talk about whether or not Kyoko will try again and chef boss thinks seems to think that she will because she's generally determined while eating lunch with her co-worker.

Kyoko sees a makeup commercial starring show and is dismayed because she wants make that she wants that makeup. She likes that makeup, but she hates that guy to clarify. It's a cosmetic not makeup. Like not. He's not paying makeup on. Okay. It's like what is it? It's like a bunch of different stuff that looks like makeup. Yeah, like a facial product. She's just saying I want jelly because those are like the things I can ever indulge in because I was busy, you know, like puffing it for you, dude.

Yeah. Basically just getting wrecked. Hmm. Um, her and her co-worker are called out to handle a customer and they get out there to see that it's actually show and his manager, they pulled up to get some gas. Kyoko wants to beat his ass with a wrench, but she can't do that. So instead, she tries to keep a low profile so that he do we won't recognize her. Her co-worker is like into show though.

So she's like getting an autograph and earlier she mistakes Kyoko's dismay at seeing the commercial that he's in it as like adoration. So she's like, oh yeah, my co-worker is really into you show. She like collapse on the ground when she saw your commercial. So she points to Kyoko and is like, she's a big fan of yours. You should give her a handshake because that's like a thing you do with idols. You like shake their hand and it's like a thing. I guess you watch this hand again.

Yeah, like weirdo. She tries to like stop her co-worker from like drawing attention to her. But while doing that, her hat falls off and she freaks out, but it doesn't seem like show recognizes her with her like hair different. They do a handshake and Kyoko realizes that he just straight up doesn't recognize her even though he's like looking her square in the face. She asks if he remembers her and he apologizes and saying he can't remember all of his fans.

In the car, his manager is like, dang, that girl did seem kind of familiar actually, but show is like, listen, 80% of my fans look like that. They're all look the same. Kyoko has renewed rage that show couldn't recognize his childhood friend after only like a few weeks, maybe not even more than one. I can't really tell how long it's been. Yeah, not very long at all. She goes home. She's depressed that she won't be able to get her revenge.

Chef Boss comes to her room and tells her that she didn't eat she didn't break into showbiz because she hasn't tried everything yet. If there are obstacles in your path, you should just break through them. She gets motivated and decides that she'll give it another shot with Chef Boss's encouragement back at L and me. Mr. So what is disappointed that Kyoko hasn't come back yet since it's been four days. Ren tells him that his plan is ridiculous because she doesn't have what it takes anyway.

She's like, why are you waiting for this chick to come back? So what is like what's your problem man and Ren says that he flat out doesn't like her and also her like revenge plan is bad motivation for like working like who does that? So are things that President Lori thought she had potential and he usually has pretty good intuition and then we cut to President Lori who's like dressed like a Hungarian King. He's never in the same outfit. He's never in the same outfit.

It took me so long to figure out what type of King he was and then later on in the episode, it's like these are like a Hungarian swordsman. I'm like, oh, he was Hungarian. Okay. I was like Eastern European aristocracy like the whole time it was stress it too much. Kyoko shows back up to L and me. She thinks that she needs to avoid the front entrance since the receptionist will recognize her and said she jumps a security checkpoint and immediately slams into famous actress Kimiko Kaimo cameo.

She's pissed off at some child ran into her and she's like who are you? Are you new? And then she asks if she's the girl from the new section they just created and she goes like what elsewhere. Ren and Sawara are waiting for cameo. They get word that she's here and go to meet her. They talk about how apparently she's got a reputation for holding a grudge. Kimia runs into them in the hallway and apologizes for being late in a very self-serving way.

And then it ran immediately throws some shade on her because he just loves like poking everybody because he finds them annoying. But she brushes it off. They ask her why she doesn't have any luggage and she says that the girl over there has it and we turn to see Kyoko carrying all of cameo's luggage. Sawara is happy to see her and is like oh it's great that you're here and Kyoko tells him that she just couldn't give up on shows but show business.

She'll do whatever he needs her to do like being a personal assistant or like officekeeper or whatever and Sawara is like yeah cool kid that's great enthusiasm but just like focus on your actual job right now and Kyoko is like my job because she doesn't know that they brought her back.

He's just assuming that she knows that for some reason while walking Ren takes one of the bags she's holding saying that it's a man's job to help carry things and Kyoko is flustered even though the thing he takes is the roller bag but she's still carrying stuff so he's not even carrying anything. He's just rolling the bag. Sawara tells president. I was gonna say the whole bags are a bitch to carry.

Yeah Sawara tells president Lori that Kyoko showed up just now and Lori says that's perfect because now they can launch the love me section. Ren tells Kyoko about the new section as they walk and explains that it's a section where you work to get others to love you Kyoko thinks that's really stupid and then tells Ren that and then rent tells her that's where she's gonna work. Yeah she's like that's that sounds like any position and then Ren's like OK cool that's your job.

He says that the president made this section for people like her with talent but our unlovable. Kyoko is horrified. Ren says that if she could pass through the love me training she can get she can get to make a debut and explains that they get that she's gonna get graded based on how many love stamps she gets so everybody has these stamps with a certain number of points on them and they give it to her by like stamping her face or whatever.

Kamiyo is like what are you guys doing why are you taking so long also why is Ren carrying my stuff you should be carrying my stuff and then she gives Kyoko a minus 10 love stamp points so she's and she's got negative 10 points right now. Kyoko's pissed that she got a deduction when Ren offered to carry the bags and rent tells her that it's her fault for not taking responsibility for her own work and walks off.

Kyoko thinks that he's sabotaging her and declares that she hates him as we cut the credits. I mean yeah I kind of I mean annoying on her and he did offer but also I just like that he's like oh yeah you know like he's definitely doing it on purpose because he's a little shit. Yes yeah well it says to the ladies like oh well if you took half the time doing your makeup to just get here on time I wouldn't have to wait for you or something basically.

Yeah this is a thing with Ren's gonna get annoyed with all the people around him for like not showing up to things on time which like makes sense. Yep yep yep but that's kind of his thing. My mom. That's that's his whole deal which is pretty good. Yeah so stamps we'll get into it. Should I just go into episode five or do you want to talk about this episode. No take it away. Okay these are all pretty tightly connected so episode five is called Danger Zone. Danger Zone yeah.

Yeah I was like how does that start again. Top Gun. We love this. This reminds me of Macross Plus. All right we open on President Laurie explaining the love me section to Kyoko. He says that if she can not develop her ability to respect and think of others then she will never make her debut. I haven't known about this. That's a weird thing to say because respecting and thinking about others really isn't her issue here like that's not the problem.

Well I mean no one's really talked to her enough to really suss out what the actual issue is. You know like. No everybody's just jumping to conclusions. They're all wrong. He asks if she's confident that she can succeed and she says no. She says that she used to be that kind of person like super self-sacrificing but now when she looks back to all the time she did that she can only seize that as like an idiotic thing to do.

Then she says that she might be able to rehabilitate herself so like I don't know I'll give it a shot. I haven't known about this. Okay let's hear it. Is nobody to clarify that being considerate and like drawing normal like boundaries are like different things here.

Well I mean right in the one of the last episode she has that part where she finally does cry because she realizes that you know she's missing like the ability to love which is like a part of being human and that's the thing that she wants to get back not necessarily loving a person but just like being able to feel that emotion and be complete. Yes right which is just not super elaborated here. Yeah this is interesting.

I'm gonna have a lot of thoughts about what is what is expected of her in contrast to what someone like I don't know when Saruga gives off which is kind of like a guy who hates everybody. We'll see we'll see how that goes. President Lori gives her a box of stamps in a heart class or plaque to keep with her to keep track of her progress that's where she's going to put all the stamps on there.

He tells her that she'll be working backstage at first but will eventually make it to TV so like just stick with it. She leaves and Lori wonder is what made her more cynical in the past what happened to her. Who know I could have asked but I didn't. Go starts her job but her uniform is like a pink jumpsuit that has this terrible love me logo all over it like in the front and also in the back have a patch that look you have the love me patch it's very funny.

It makes me look like a maintenance worker. Yeah she thinks it's super embarrassing and so are I tells her that the president likes this stuff so just like put up with it then go gets her first job which is to scrape a ton of gum off the floor and like clean the floor and Kiko is pissed and is using the power of hate so she cleans it all up very quickly because you know emotion to wield doing doing rope maintenance is Kiko's entire life basically so it turns out she's very good at it.

We cut to show who's basking in his ability to win over the ladies while he's at like an airport or something I don't know at least that's what he thinks is happening but then he realizes that they're actually finding over rent who's nearby show thinks about how he's gonna beat Ren and then he kicks an ass trade in front of Ren's path to get his attention. Ren plays it off and tells him to remember to clean up and thus soundly defeating him.

He's like oh no Ren came off better in that exchange than I did. Ren's agent is like that was that show guy. He probably hates you for being popular and then Ren agrees and his agent reminds him that Ren used to be a tough guy like that before joining showbiz so he probably knows what it's like to be quick tempered and runs like I've always been nice. Well don't say that Mr. Yashiro is his name and yeah we get it next episode.

Okay well he's he's just making a statement to run that that's what he thinks rents background is like not that run. Okay not that he actually knows. Yeah yeah so he's just assuming. Okay. Okay finish is cleaning but does such a good job that everybody slips and falls on the newly cleaned floor. Nevertheless she gets 10 points and they put up a wet floor sign.

She's annoyed that she only got 10 points because people slipped and fell and that's like kind of not her fault but then decides it's fine because with the negative 10 points she got before she's now at 0 points. A group. What. First start. Fresh start. Yeah she can start over now. She's thinking about this on the stairwell and then a girl bonks her on the head with her knee from behind.

Yoko recognizes her as Ruriko Matsunai the last Japanese idol that MLE brought in which is how she introduces herself and Koko's like that's kind of a weird thing to say about yourself but whatever. Ruri is like hey you're from that section that does odd jobs right while I have a job for you you got to come with me. We cut to the president's office where he talks to the department head about Ruri and they say that she might want to quit because apparently she has a tendency to quit things.

Ruri Kyouko and Ruri's manager drive off in a van. Ruri complains that she doesn't want to be in a movie that she's cast for because if she's out in the sun for too long it'll ruin her life and Kyouko is like well what does that mean but before she can answer Ruri just falls asleep.

Kyouko turns to rage and is like why is she she hates the sun a lot that sucks but like outdoor scenes in this movie she's got to do them right and her agent is like yeah she's gonna have to do it but like she starts to feel sick if she's in the sun for too long so you know we got to be careful about it. Kyouko imagines Ruri as a frail princess like in one of her kid books her agent tells her that her job is to protect Ruri from the sun. I need someone doing that job for me. Oh yeah.

For real I'm the last idol of America. That's right. The last American Idol that I only brought in. While driving the car just breaks down and they're stuck on the road her agent says that they can walk from here because it's like not that far and still make it because they're running late. Ruri protests but her agent is like it's the only way and also Red and Saruga is waiting for her so like you need to get there and Ruri reluctantly agrees and starts walking.

Kyouko is tasked with holding the world's giant world's largest parasol over the two of them as they go. Kyouko is annoyed that she is inadvertently helping Rin by helping Ruri because she hates that guy. They walk for about five minutes until Ruri stops and complains that she can't go on. Ruri says that ever since she was a child she just couldn't do harsh activities and Kyouko imagines her as a frail princess again.

We cut to Kyouko carrying Ruri up the road like on her back while also holding the parasol over her. She's really heavy. Yeah. But Kyouko persists. She's probably like 90 pounds or something. That's true but I don't think Kyouko is lifting them. I don't think I think she's skipping leg day constantly. She's not utilizing rage right now. That's right. No she isn't.

She's she's trying to be like she's trying to be helpful which means she doesn't get the power of rage as we learned in this episode is a power up like it does make you better at things. Kyouko persists for Ruri's sake. They make it to a villa where the production crew is staying in for the shoot. Ruri meets the director. I'm sorry. They don't make it. There is a cut and all of a sudden they're in the villa but specifically Ruri's in the villa and not Kyouko.

Ruri meets the director and acts all sweet and Ruri thinks that this place sucks though. It's just like making stuff up. The like set assistant that's helping Ruri ask her if she walked up here alone and then we get a flashback of Kyouko carrying Ruri up the trail but at a certain point Kyouko falls because she twists her ankle and Ruri says that she'll just walk the west of the ray alone. Don't worry about it. You just stay here.

Kyouko protests saying that the Sun will make her ill and her weak heart won't give her the strength to make it and Ruri is like what are you talking about? I'm not sick and my heart's just fine. Just like wait here and someone will like find you or whatever and then she leaves. We jump back to the present and Ruri tells the assistant that she's popular for her fair complexion and if she ever gets sunburnt her career will be over which is why she wants to keep out of the sun.

The assistant says wow that must be tough and Ruri thinks to herself that it is tough and she hates people that curry favor in the place of talent like Kyouko which is why she hopes that she fails and is also just going to leave her out there. No fate worse than being left under the sun. Yeah, she's left out there. Kyouko is lying face down in the road. She tries to drag herself over to the shade but she can't make it because she's so exhausted and her leg hurts.

She reflects on her feelings to protect Ruri and how she failed but maybe that feeling is the type of love that she needs to succeed. But then she thinks about everybody in her life that she gave her all for that have turned her back on her. You know like show did and also her mom and we get to see like this like flashback of her mom leaving her as a child as she like runs after her and it's like extremely sad. Yeah, but then a figure appears in front of her. It's Ren Saruga.

He's like oh what are you doing here? Are you on the ground because you're taking a breaker because you collapsed and Kyouko tries to wiggle away but can't so he decides that it's because she like physically collapsed. Can I make a note here?

Yes. Last episode I think I tried to correct you even though it was very apparently wrong but like Saruga is how it's spelled and you say it but in my mind like since the age of 14 reading these books I just call them Saraga in my mind so it's like hard to correct that. That's embarrassing for you. I know, right? I just read the subtitles. Yeah. Oh, you've never gotten on me for pronunciation before.

Ssh. Anyway, it's just wanted to acknowledge that so people weren't like oh wow she's a dumbass and she doesn't even know it. I'm aware. It's all good. Nobody said you hate mail because we didn't get any mail at all. No, I left a comment to berate myself. I knew I was aware. Nice. Let's see. Kyoko asks Ren if Ruri sent him and he says no he was just taking a walk and just happened upon her.

Ren sees her swollen ankle and Kyoko wonders why Ruri hasn't sent anybody yet because like she should have made it by now. Ren grabs her ankle and twists it back into place which is like super not the thing you're supposed to do for a twisted ankle dude. He says it's probably fractured which like yeah man you probably fractured it when you did this. Yeah. Like did she dislocate it? I don't know. It's very interesting that he does this.

Then he picks her up saying that he'll have to carry her back as we cut to credits. Yeah, I mean I think I ran cross country where people would sprain their ankles all the time and I don't know. I mean I did it like once and I was still able to walk on my leg. I mean she's going to be able to walk later in the next episode but yeah. Yeah, I don't know. He's popping it back into place like she actually dislocated it.

It was just very funny for him to like twist it and make a crack and then he's like it's fractured. Ankle? I don't know. Maybe. I feel like you could dislocate anything if you try hard enough. Okay, okay. I guess so maybe. Joe the doc. You do have a doc. You are a doctor right? Yeah, that's right. I have a PhD. So you would know. Give me, let me give you medical advice. Please do. Proceed. So Ruri sucks. Yeah. Freaking brat. Brat. Yeah. And we get more of it next episode.

Yay. Episode 6 is called Invitation to the Ball. We open on Ruri and makeup waiting on Ren. Meanwhile, Ren has been carrying Kyoko through the set because they finally made it back. Kyoko's complaining that she doesn't need his help and Ren sets her down and is like, like fine I get it. I'll leave you alone and then he walks off.

Ruri sees this and is jealous and is also pissed off that Ren princess carried her rival or the chick that she hates and gave her attention while she's just been sitting here waiting around for him like an idiot. Even though they've all been waiting for her. Even though they've all been waiting for her at this point. Kyoko gets some first aid from Ren's manager whose name is Yashiro.

He teases her saying that she thanked him properly for giving her first aid but she didn't thank Ren for carrying her up and Kyoko's like, let's cause Ren's mean to me and Yashiro's like, ah, he's probably just odd. Or he's like, that's kind of weird because he's really nice to everybody and then he tells her that he's just really strict about work stuff and is probably like annoyed how everything's gone so far.

Then he offers to take her to the hospital but she refuses saying that she still needs to help out Ruri. She still has her tasks to complete because she hasn't realized that Ruri sucks yet. Ruri goes to greet Ren and Ren says it's good that she's here because he was tired of waiting for her. Ruri storms off saying that she might have more fans than he does so like where does he get off? Got it. There's no way. No way.

The Lulu. Kyoko finds her and she's like on, she has like a cane propping herself up on. Or like a crutch. Stick, yeah like a crutch. A crutch. Stick kind of thing. Ruri tells her that she hates the love me section because it's just a stupid way for you to curry favor so you can earn favors instead of like actually earning it with talent and stuff. Kyoko was shocked that she was saying this because she was actually like trying to help Ruri not trying to like curry favors or anything.

And then Ruri tells her that her goal was to crush her from the start. So it was always a losing game for you Kyoko. You know what? When I think about it, she was only trying her heart is because she like made up this narrative in her mind that Ruri was like a little princess and so if she had been some mundane person when she just had zero motivation to help her. So it is kind of self-serving of her own delusions of Ruri.

Listen, if my job was to hold a parasol over somebody, I would they would have to be like a frail print. I would have to project that in my mind otherwise I would just be annoyed that they can't hold their own damn parasol like it's hard. You know what I mean? Like this is this is not a task anybody should have to do.

Okay, I'm just saying if we're like deep diving into why she's having to do all this stuff that goes like because that was why she got scolded for the floor cleaning is because she did it for her own self satisfaction rather than the job she was given. I feel like she got scolded for the score with the floor cleaning because she didn't put up the wet floor sign.

Well, because she was only thinking about doing it because you know they had like a little note saying like type B. So like really enjoys tasks like this to completion and blah blah blah and you know like she went above and beyond what she was asked to do because she wanted it to look perfect not because she was asked to get that way. Yeah, I don't know. I don't view these as bad things. I don't view like doing a good job for your own personal satisfaction a bad thing. All for the show it is.

But I guess the show does. Who knows? I have to keep watching to find out. Oh, you're too. I totally don't. Are you like really far away from the mic? Sorry, I'm parched. I need some water. Oh, take it away. A lot of talking. It must be so hard. Shut up. I am dehydrated. Don't I'm just trying to look out for myself right? We're not against self. That's my dream. You're oh yeah. Right. Okay. So my hydration.

Well, hey, what a good time to be looking out for yourself because at this point Kyoko gets pissed off at Ruri for sucking but she suppresses her anger. She turns to yeshiro and they both pick her up and drag her onto the set because they're like listen, you got to go on set. So they just physically take her there.

They bring her back into the room and the director is like, oh cool Ruri, you're back and we thought you just stormed off and we were just hanging out waiting for you to cool off and come back. Kyoko sees red mouthing something at her but can't figure out what he's saying. So he has to say out loud that he said that the turtle girl didn't go to the hospital, which is a reference to him calling her a turtle when he first saw her lying on the ground because she was like on her stomach.

She yells at him that she's not a turtle and she can still kind of walk if she doesn't put all her weight on her ankle. Ruri pushes her down and saying that she's probably faking it to get attention from Ren and Kyoko is pissed because she doesn't even like Ren. So like why is she getting pushed down for this guy she doesn't like but then she suppresses her anger once again. The director is like Ruri, what the hell? She's actually hurt.

You can just push people down and then Ruri runs off again because she is embarrassed and annoyed. Shooting starts and Kyoko thinks that the fairytale persona she had built up about Ruri was totally fake. Ren offers her a chair because he's not in this scene, but Kyoko refuses saying that if Ruri sees them together she's going to get annoyed. So like I don't know keep your distance man. And it turns out yes, Ruri is upset.

And then she but she's actually upset because the director keeps having to reshoot the scene because she doesn't seem to have the posture of an aristocrat that she's trying to play in the scene. Kyoko thinks about when she had to learn how to have good posture from her training at the end because apparently you got to like act super formal when you're like being the bad mistress of the end or whatever the position is called that she's being like trained for.

Ruri threatens to quit saying that they just let Kyoko do it if they need to stand in. I mean, she's right there and Kyoko surprisingly agrees saying like yeah, I'll do it. I'll take your invitation. I'll give it a shot. Ren asked the director if he's serious about pitting Kyoko and Ruri together because like the president specifically asked him to get Ruri out of her habit of quitting things when like things got tough and the director is like, yeah, man, I don't care or whatever.

We'll just get her to do it. Kyoko is put through the makeup and the makeup artists are impressed that she like agree. They're like you're so confident for acting in this movie. And Kyoko thinks to herself that she just agreed in a rage to get back at Ruri. Ruri is annoyed that Ren originally asked her to co-star but now he like wasn't defending her when she got in this fight.

Kyoko was brought back out in costume and she imagines herself as Cinderella in like in her storybooks with like a whole new look and everything. The crew is impressed at the change and are like, wow, you like really know how to wear a kimono. That's cool. And Kyoko is super happy to be in costume and says that this is the happiest moment in her life and everyone's like, wow, what kind of life are you living up to this point? Judgy. Everybody's so judgy.

Well, she's been like she's like a mundane thing and they're maybe they're thinking how she's excited to be acting but like, oh, makeup. I've always dreamt of it but it's finally happening. Yeah, she is like very into it. She's like, this is the best thing that's ever happened to me and everyone's like, all right, I mean, okay. It's like a Tuesday for me.

Ruri is annoyed to make some sniping comments at her and Kyoko says that she's grateful to Ruri because if it wasn't because she's so selfish and arrogant that she wouldn't have this opportunity to dress up and she's going to cap it all off by defeating her and being a better actress. And Ruri says that she isn't going to lose to her in the storm off. They go to do a test shot with Kyoko. She has great posture and manners just like she was trained.

The crew is impressed and Kyoko thinks that it's just a holdover from her bad past. She's like, well, good thing I learned all that stuff. But then she takes a step weird and hurts her ankle and like has to give some help. Meanwhile, Ruri saw this test shot and is feeling somewhat threatened. Ren tells Kyoko that the next scene will be at sea like a tea ceremony that'll be outside. So it'll be like a continuous shot that could last up to 15 minutes.

So there's no way her ankle is going to make it through that scene. She should just skip it. And Kyoko is like, No, I'm going through with it. They set up the outdoor tea ceremony. Ruri is outside and Kyoko comments that she's in the sun even though she's allergic and Ruri just kind of looks at her and then Kyoko realizes that she lied about being allergic to the sun. It is pissed off again. She technically didn't lie. You should answer your statement. Her agent said that.

Yeah. Ren tells her that like she really should just drop it because of her leg. But Ruri drags him off for the scene. Kyoko is filled with rage after learning that she's not allergic to the sun and decides that she's going to do the scene no matter what. Before the shoot, Ruri accuses friend of wanting to work with Kyoko and Ren just says he wants to work with somebody that is like going to take the job seriously. And Ruri thinks that he just doesn't want to work with her.

Yeah. She road tells Kyoko that she really should be at the hospital. But Kyoko says no even broken bones heal. So she's staying here. It's Kyoko's turn for the shot. The director tells Ruri that her acting wasn't serious enough because she kept staring at Ren instead of like doing the scene correctly. Kyoko Taus Ruri saying her job was to keep her out of the light, which is what she's going to do by eclipsing her in all things as we cut the credits. Such a good line.

It's so good being like, oh, I'll keep you out of the sun. All right. You'll be in the dark forever. Spotlight too. Yeah. Yeah. So good. Yeah. So we're, we've got a little sneak peek, but even more so next episode we'll get some more acting centric stuff. So it's like, it's kind of, I was thinking about this. Okay. So base, I told you this, but I was like, oh, I'm going to read along the manga as we cover it. I can. Okay. Uh-huh. Is it different? No, but then I just started reading the director.

The entire series. Like, cause like, yeah, uh-huh. I'm on, I'm on volume 44 right now. How many? I only have 49 right now. So I'm a little, you have five left. Yeah. Okay. And the last week, I guess, why'd you do this? I cause it's so freaking good. It's my favorite manga ever. Okay. So good. All right. Well, forget all the stuff that happens after this episode because you can't talk about it. Yep. I know. I know. Well, I know it's so well that I know what gets covered.

Stuff. Um, but, oh, but I was thinking like parts of it kind of reminds me of a sports anime where it like goes into how, you know, like acting kind of being. Well, you know, like how they cover sports anime where it's like, okay, the techniques and the history and like, oh, look at that. Whatever they're so talented, but they do that with acting. That makes acting seem really cool and like a skill that you build up and stuff. So it's cool to see. Um, yeah.

So, so that's like an aspect of this though. A lot of shows don't have going. Oh yeah. I mean, it does lead into like, Hey, like show business is a job. Acting is a job. You have to like learn how to do it and you have to be able to like convincingly act like the person you're supposed to be, which includes, you know, having the right posture and like being able to wear your clothes like you aren't just wearing them for the first time. Yeah. Um, nope. I was going to say something now.

I've forgotten. I have brick. Oh, and that's why I ran so mean to her and Chiruri and to that older lady. Has they're late or aren't taking it seriously or have a bad motive because she told him she wanted revenge, which she doesn't think is a good reason to get into the thing that he has dedicated his life to doing. So that's why he's like being aggressive towards these or I don't know, passive aggressive. Um, yeah. Well, it's just interesting because like we do get a line that Ruri is.

Oh, sorry. Did I cut you off? Uh, no, no, nothing. Nothing important to say here. Continue. Oh, okay. Sorry. You did that. Um, I mean, it is interesting because we do get Ruri is like new to acting. So she's like an amateur actor, right? Like this is her first role, I guess. Anything. Well, cause she's an idol.

So she like see she's not look cute or whatever, but acting is not in her skill set, but she just got, you know, I guess, you know, uh, like how they cast influencers for reality TV because they bring an audience with them. So that's yeah, I mean, this is pretty normal. Yeah. Yeah. Like how Ed Sheeran was in Game of Thrones. This is a lot like, there'll be a lot of like celebrity appearances and like law and order and stuff.

Yeah. Um, but it's interesting that like he is annoyed with her because she's like not taking this seriously or like taking acting as a profession seriously, but he is annoyed with Kyoko because he doesn't like her motivation, but like, it's not like she isn't trying, you know what I mean? But he doesn't really ever see the effort because like he didn't see the audition. No. Yeah. He doesn't see it. Yeah. Yeah, he doesn't see action at all.

Yes. This is like the first time he's ever seen her actually work. Yeah. We are like, it's why, cause we're right. Uh, this is only episode six or the second volume of the manga and we're like getting to it already with the acting. Do you think it would take longer to like develop the skill? But I guess that's why she's in the love me section because there's some talent within her to do it despite not having.

Yeah. Well, I mean, it's also like very interesting that like she's basically being played off as a rival to like get Ruri to stop quitting stuff. Mm hmm. Yeah, she's like showing that role, which it seems like the director is like making happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cause they, it wasn't as apparent in the anime and but in the manga and then we get very clear that that's like the reason why he was saying it's fine for Kyoko to give it a try because it will give Ruri the push to take it seriously.

Yeah, which is good. I think that's good. I like how we're not just being like in Kyoko needs to learn how to not be angry. It's like, nope, she gets to be angry. Very much so. The fight is a good motivator. Yeah, I freaking love it. It's good. Yeah. Especially cause I don't really understand the love me section, but she seems like she has to do a bunch of odd jobs and get approval by a bunch of people.

Like I understand how Ruri is like you're just doing this to curry favor because that's kind of what it is. Even though that's not like the intention of Kyoko doesn't care about getting favors from these people, but her job is to get favors from people essentially or like get approval from everybody. I mean, it is something cooked up by the wacko president. So it's like hard to understand something created by him, but you know, like you work, you're supposed to do it.

Well, this is very much a thing in Japanese culture, right? Like you don't tip people because if they have a job, they're supposed to do it to the best of their ability as is and not just because they're trying to, you know, make more, but because it's the job they were given. And I guess I thought you don't tip. What?

I was saying, I thought you didn't tip because they actually like paid their well, that's who that's who, but also because like if you try to tip their offended by it because, you know, they shouldn't be getting paid when they already are for a job that's like a whole thing. But I mean, so maybe it's like cultural thing of like when, because right, like I feel like work life is so important there. Like your career is very. It isn't also kind of a nightmare. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Right. It's harder.

You can't, you know, like it does. They don't want you to stick out by having extreme emotions like spite, but maybe that's part of it. But I don't know. It's like work super late hours. I don't know. I don't think like the work conditions in Japan, at least from what I learned are not that good. Yeah. Okay. Going through the manga is like my God.

And I think what I was into, I mean, I noticed this because me and my sister were like in Shibuya at 10 and like everything was closed and we were like, what the hell? It's 10 in the morning. Like I think they stay up very late there because in this manga, like people are getting phone calls at like 11 at night. And I'm like, who are you calling that? Is it like a family member that late at night? But I guess maybe it's just like people stay up much later there than they do here. I know.

Anyways, that's crazy. I feel like if I was at work when the sun went down, I would lose my shit. Like if I did it every day. Yeah. I had classes that were three hours long in college and one of the sometimes I went to a class until 8.50 at night. Oh, that was bad. Yeah. Yeah. So who's your favorite character so far? I mean, it's Kyo-Ko because she just got mad at everything and it's like a power is fueled by anger and spite.

She's like, I was trying to help you Ruri, but you're like super mean to me for no reason. So like I'm going to ruin your whole life. Fuck you. She's just going to post her of her to put on her wall. Oh yeah. She should have like a whole collage that her grudges. Yeah. So I guess what are you thinking so far? It's certainly different than our previous shows, right? Yeah. I mean, I think it's like I'm not so sure about the president's plan.

Like if this is a thing she really needs to learn or not. I do like how it's being inverted by like it's embarrassing. Making her angrier. Yeah. Like her interactions are just making her more spiteful because it seems like the thing like they're really getting at, especially the thing that like Ren cares about, like her determination to do stuff. This is not a problem she has. You know what I mean? Like she is determined to do stuff. This is not like a lesson she needs to learn.

She just needs to like show him that, you know what I mean? So I don't really know about the whole. I mean, you know, we'll get more on like the actual love thing because that seems to be a little weird because so far it's been framed or at least she's framed it as like being self-sacrificing, which she kind of was doing when she was helping Ruri, but like she also got owned for doing it. Right. Yes. And the show is very much just like, yeah, this is like, right.

So I think it will come down to like a, I don't know. I think it'll have an interesting thing to say about that, but the fact that the president does not correct her. No one's correcting her when she says this stuff. I think it's interesting. Hmm. Yeah. Right. Well, that's just kind of right. So Joe, it's all about not saying things and allowing for misunderstanding. So we learn. Okay. Oh yeah. No, like I think it's totally fine. It's just interesting to say that. Um, and like the, I don't know.

It's weird to be like, oh, everybody else has loved me energy, like Ren who like seems to kind of just hate everybody around him as he finds him annoying. It's really just women. He just doesn't like the women around him. Huh? None of the ones we mess up for. Well, I mean, we like Kyoko, but I mean, he doesn't. He doesn't like Kyoko. Right. He doesn't like, uh, what's her face? Old lady. Mariah or what was her name? Uh, I have it written down. Momary. Momary. Is that it?

Are we talking about the old, the lady? The actress. Yeah. The like older actress. Yes. Whatever. She'll never appear. Oh, Kamiyo. Let me tell you. Kamiyo. He doesn't like Kamiyo. He doesn't like Ruri. He doesn't like any of the women around him. Yeah. Well, we'll never see Kamiyo again. Really? That's weird. It seems like it was setting something up.

Um, no, I think just in, I guess if it's a series about actors where like name recognition means something, then it makes sense that even a character we don't see if they are a celebrity that you kind of had to call out their reputation and their character intro. Even if they aren't around for very long and. Uh, okay. Sorry. Where you like, she was your second favorite character and you were really hoping to see more of her.

No, it's just weird that we like learned her name and she was like around and then it's just like, and that's the last we ever see of her, which is like, oh, okay. Like, why did they tell us that she has like a. Tendency to hold a grudge. Like we got some characterization for her. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, cause then there's whatever the chicks you were the gas station with who we don't learn the name of because and we're never going to see again, but she's just a normal person.

So don't learn about her, but it's true. Yeah. So we'll see. Yeah. Good. So far. I mean, this is only like half the arc, right? Like I'm assuming we're going to have like two more episodes to clean this up or something. Yeah. Like it's you. Yep. Arc. That's right. The Ruri, uh, arc, the little UV sickly girl. I'm. I like it when Kyo goes mad. Yeah. Well, you're you're in luck. There's going to be a whole lot of that. Hell yeah. That's great.

I love that she's just powered by the power of being angry. It's so good. Go away. Yeah. Good. This is great. I was always, I was really afraid that this is a story about her getting less angry and becoming more like, you know, lovable, like in a contemporary way. Yeah. Uh, but and but so far it's not been happening and that's great. I like it. Yes. Yeah. I, yeah, cause that's part of it just makes, she's the funny part of the series and that keeps going like that doesn't go away. Um, good.

And she does redirect it at different people. It's not like it's only for show. Uh, but I mean, we saw a little bit, but like she was pretty eccentric beforehand. It's just that now it's in a more, uh, I guess, like considered to be negative way. Um, well, it seems like she just operate. I mean, she just operates on extremes, right? Yeah. Like super self-sacrificing in a way that like destroys your life. Like, I don't think the president meant like actually the self-sacrificing.

He's just like, oh, sometimes you got to consider other people, you know, and she's like, nope, it's either zero or a hundred for me. Yeah. Yeah. We'll see if she learns moderation. We'll see. I hope not. Oh, nothing kind of grow. Well, what kind of growth would you want from her as a character then? Um, she's to be, well, I mean, she's already like picking her battles pretty well. Like that seems like the thing. I don't know. I mean, I guess like, I just love her as is perfect.

I don't think that like living your life out of spite for a long period of time is good. Like I think getting back at show is like a pretty good starting goal. But like eventually she's going to have to actually start caring about something for herself. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I'm sure she will. So well now that because show was her whole life and now that he's gone, like, you know, all that came with him is gone.

So she doesn't have that mesh to work with as a as an individual other than like remnants from that, such as the, you know, like training from working at that in and things like that. Like she didn't really develop herself as a character that much outside of things related to serving. Yeah. I do really like how to learn about herself.

Yeah. I mean, I do really like how so far like all of her actual talent is based on stuff that she's just like had to learn from like working different jobs, like the creating the like Rose thing from the Dicon and also like being able to have good like posture and like carry herself from the training she got at the end. Like I do like the fact that it's like, oh, by my experience doing all these different odd jobs makes me good at this thing. Yeah, I like that a lot. That's fun.

Yeah. Yeah. Did you ever do theater or anything in school? No. No. Yeah. I don't have any like knowledge of acting or show business as far as like the skills necessary. But yeah, I think it's pretty hard. Like they probably get like this role is probably like not that involved because it was given to a amateur. Yeah. Amateur like a new actor. You know what I mean? Like they usually like plan roles around that stuff.

So like it probably very heavily features minor like Ren and like all those other people as opposed to her who's just like probably on camera a lot but doesn't have like a lot of lines are like difficult things to execute particularly. That's my guess based off of my experience of the move of the show business is movies about movies which like they wouldn't lie to me. That's right.

Yeah. Cause right like well the show will kind of explore this later but like I feel like nepotism is a thing we're more aware of now and like oh yeah how much that weighs out like actual talent stuff like that. Yeah. I remember reading about what's her face the chicken euphoria yeah. No the other one. Oh Sydney Sweeney. Oh yeah.

She had that whole thing where she's basically like I can't like I have to keep working basically all the time because like I have to support like the three people on my staff or whatever and I can't like take long vacations or anything because I have to keep earning money because I'm the only part of the business of like the people that earn money unlike everybody else in Hollywood who are like Nepo babies or have like you know like family wealth that

can just like stop working for like six months or something because she's just like and she's like her family. She's just a regular person otherwise. You know what I mean.

And like she had a whole thing about that and like you look at how many like famous actors and stuff are from like families or dynasties in Hollywood or whatever and it's like a huge amount which like totally makes sense because it's like yeah I guess you wouldn't be able to like pay your agent if you went on vacation because you're not earning money and your money has to cover you and your agent because they you pay them or like you know your secretary or whatever. Yeah and that sucks.

The industry sucks. Yeah. So it would seem. Oh she's did you watch that show. No I've never seen it. Sydney Sweeney is hot. I would say she's my female celebrity crush if I had one. I don't think I've seen anything she's in. She was in that White Lotus show. I didn't see that either. Good things about she was in some romance movie recently but like she's really pretty although I don't know that I like her voice that much but she sure is nice to look at.

Cool. Yeah. One day I'll probably look at her but I haven't watched anything with her any yet so. Oh she was in that terrible Madden was that Spider Woman movie. Oh Madame Web. Yeah I've heard bad things but she was in that. Yeah so she I guess she has been in a lot of stuff so I guess that makes sense.

You just assume that if someone's like a hot commodity they're just being cast for everything and that's why I see them a lot but I guess it's true that some well and she's in bigger things so she must be successful to be. Yeah well there's probably stuff in like production that she's you know what I mean like because she got popular like a couple years ago which means there's like a lag between when stuff comes out. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah okay so that's Skippy episodes 4 through 6.

We're excited for the ending of this arc and what's to come after that. But till next time why don't you tell us a little bit about something else our viewers should or our listeners should check out Joe. A couple days ago I watched a movie I watched Kubo and the two strings which is a movie that came out in 2016 by Studio Leica who does all of the I mean it's like they do the stop motion stuff they're like the famous people for doing the stop motion stuff.

This is also a stop motion thing it's incredibly cool. They also did stuff like they did box trolls they did carline they did the other one paranormal.

So any of those kind of things is like they're they're saying it's all stop motion stuff Kubo is very cool it's basically just like a Japanese style fable story quest kind of thing about this kid who has to go on this journey and like to escape his evil grand dad who lives in the moon or is the moon is the moon king and you know it's like pretty straightforward like fantasy kind of thing but the animation looks incredible because it's all like stop motion models and stuff it looks

awesome it's so cool every scene I was just like how did they make this.

I was reading the Wikipedia page and apparently they made the there's like a point where they find a big skeleton and apparently it was 16 feet and weighed 400 pounds and is the largest stop motion puppet ever so that's awesome and they have a big fight with it it looks really cool it's super awesome the whole time I'm just like how they make this shot this camera angles cool so like the craft is incredible and also it's like a pretty fun like you know family movie it's cute. It's cute.

Nice Kubo and the two strings. Yep. Well yeah that name sounds familiar I haven't watched it but I must there must have been good advertising for it or something. Okay well I am going to recommend a web comic. I think of which one I'm going to recommend. I guess I will recommend dear. What comic called Golden hour.

It's kind of like not it's only started coming out like in okay I guess it's been out for about a year now but kind of slower releases but really nice artwork but basically it's about this chick who has a cold retriever named Simba and he's freaking cute cute ass dog like they make him look like such a little doofus but she's got this dog and she's dating this guy who doesn't really seem to like the dog and so that's kind of been like a point of tension in the relationship

and the dog ends up like getting lost and this random guy kind of encounters it this dude who's pretty just like jaded and too busy but the dog you know gives him the cute eyes so he's like okay fine come with me I'll try to find your owner whatever and at the same time he or the gal has been like putting flyers and stuff up because she's like freaking out and the boyfriend's kind of like oh too bad you know whatever not really helping look for it the dog and the guy

who found the dog sees one of these flyers and calls the number which is her phone number but she's away and her boyfriend picks up the phone and when the guy is like hey I think I found your dog whatever the boyfriend just like is like wrong number and ends the call because he doesn't want that dog to come back. It's just horrible.

How much his girlfriend loves that dog and stuff basically she ends up finding out breaks up with him you know gets reunited with her dog and she's like thank you thank you and she's basically she's like I need a new roommate want to move in which is insane.

Don't ask a stranger to move in with you guys but okay just like it there's only like 28 chapters out so far but yeah kind of a slow burn but gorgeous art and cute ass dog because the artist has a gold retriever that she's based the dog off of but yeah so so far charming pretty. Yeah so golden hour is my recommendation this week. There was that coherent easy to follow.

Yeah okay cool yeah so hey I'm getting a guy and he's an evil villain who kicks dogs not kicks but just totally has disdain for your dog. I know right like I went on that's like targeted to you. Oh that's so true I know well it's well everybody's laser focus that rules cute dog. Yeah I don't know I mean it's yeah we don't get to see enough doggies. No if only there was a place we could see dogs or pictures of dogs. The dog park Internet.

Well somebody to create some sort of apparatus or platform in which we could view videos and pictures of dogs. Yeah I think we're in luck Joe and I know how much you really want a dog and she should get a dog and. Uh huh. Pat's rule. Me living on the fourth floor of a building yeah. Oh just get a little one and have it piss on a piece of grass pad on your patio or whatever I don't think I love the energy. Hey make it work moment. Uh huh. Or get a piggy pig or something a getty pig.

They could put cute hats on it and then when you open your fridge and here's any kind of plastic bag crinkle it's gonna like squeal thinking you're bringing it veggies and so cute. It's. Uh huh. Okay. I think I'm a pet person you are but what kind of pet energy I gave off. Yeah a turtle. The chameleon. Wow okay cool. A chameleon why is that because I blend in. No. Okay well. Can't win the more I guess cool little guys. There's chill and you just a little guy. No but I don't know.

I don't know you're so interesting you need an interesting pet. Now you're into hissing roach pets. That's a thing people have those. I don't know what that is what is that like hissing cockroaches. Oh hissing. People like raise them. Interesting. Yeah. Maybe tarantula. You can be into a tarantula maybe. Okay. Anyways so I'm in listeners with what pet you think Joe should have and. Yeah let me know what kind of pet I should be have or I guess like morph into. Be your own pet.

If I if I like get turned into an animal. Oh like it's a sitcom moment or something. Like I'm in a family movie that I don't make anymore. Or I get transformed into a pet and I'm like a magpie just like I had to do like a brother bear or something. You know I got to do one of those and Phil Collins will sing a song and I'll have to take care of some child for that movie. Brother Bear yeah. Yeah. I don't think boo you don't like him. No no I said oh I didn't realize he was it's that no he's good.

He's pretty crushed at Tarzan. Yeah amazing. My little dude's been through enough man for Bill Collins. Is that the right person. No who does that in who does Tarzan the night or with in the night or whatever that drum solo like in the air tonight. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Apparently yeah okay well he has a tragic backstory but. Okay I don't know much trivia about people. Hope you're doing good Phil Collins if you're listening.

I hope you're enjoying this extremely niche content we have brought you because you're definitely a listener. We know this. Yes. Feel free to write in or leave a comment if you're Phil Collins. Say hi I'm Phil Collins. And I like Skip beat. There you go. Hey you never know. You never know. But anyways for those listeners who aren't Phil Collins or are why don't you tell them what they should do for us. You should leave a comment saying I'm not Phil Collins but I like Skip beat five stars.

Reduce five stars on your on your podcast platform. And leave a comment if you can leave a comment which it sounds like you can now. Yeah. All the time. Do you have no excuse not to. This is important because if you do this we will gain ranks on leaderboards and that will allow me to crush my arch nemesis who I hate who will be unnamed because we like Koko are driven by spite. That's we have other podcasts. The ones that we do like are said that says fueled by spite for real.

Next to my love me logo. So perfect. Wow. That's right. Yes. Because we need to defeat everybody else. Listen there are podcasts that don't even run anymore that are ahead of us in the rankings and that's sad. It's like we're beating the record. We're beating the record. We're beating the record. We're beating the record. I think I'm going to be like this show is no longer a show. That this is not going to run anymore that are ahead of us in the rankings and that's sad.

It's like we're being we're getting beat up by a zombie Corpse, you know, yeah. Yeah, I can't. We're cranking it out every single week. Except for the least we don't well, but we don't talk about those. It was a dark time long history. around editing the episode. No, that's not true. I've made it much easier on myself. Slash. I can always be like, Joe. Yeah, you finally took my advice. You finally didn't take several hours to edit every episode. Now it takes like an hour.

Yeah, you just got to listen to it once. Yes. But yeah, so I'll probably only just be talking about Dragon Age though for however long that takes while we record. So that's what I'll be up to from October 31st to hopefully at least a month, if not longer. We'll see if I replay it immediately upon completion. TBD. Slash. Everybody look forward to that. Everybody look forward to learning about Dragon Age. Fail guard. We'll see. Am I actually going to romance Lecanus? He's so hot.

Surely he's the one I'll go for. But who knows? They've made the side characters pansexual, so everyone's an option for me no matter what I play as. So maybe I'll get slipped off my feet by the cute elf gal or like the cool detective lady. TBD. TBD. But until then. OK, guess who? Guess who? Marina Inoue also voices. Who? The female protagonist in Persona 3 Portable. The Japanese version. I haven't heard. Yes, this is the Japanese. I've only played the English version, which is Laura Bailey.

But cool. OK. Freaking love Laura Bailey. Yeah. Anyway, until then. Oh, wait, you got anyone? I was going to say, season 3 of Box Machina comes out in like a week or two. I'm excited for that. Don't talk about that before Dragon Age. Like, so that you couldn't get into or were forced to. Who knows? Maybe if I just watched more episodes and powered through it, I'd get into it. Yeah, I guess. Well, you saw the cool art I got from TwitchCon of all those characters. It did look cool. That was cool.

Yeah. I've already hung up all my new stuff. So freaking on it. OK, all right. Anyways, thanks for listening, everybody. And we'll talk to you next week. Next time, episode 7 through 9. Bye. Bye. OK.
