. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . get into community to doke. Let's catch up, Joe. What have you been up to? I haven't been up to very much of note. I have watched an anime. I am back on. I'm back on the bottoms, baby. I watched the OVA, the I guess 12 episode OVA series, housing files from the bottoms universe. Real good. It's real. It turns out bottoms is good and it keeps getting better.
And every time every like subsequent OVA they have is very good. So many back. Dude, you want to watch? Yeah, it's great. The scope dogs. They look cool. What's wrong with it? I like these guys so much, but you don't like the robot. What's wrong with robots? Well, the 3D versus 2D is jarring for some of them, I guess. I don't know. I watched one that was on Netflix, but I guess the dude was hot and it wasn't that good of a show. But give me a hot dude and like implied romance and I'm there.
OK, well, that's not what's going on in bottoms really. But, you know, it's still good anyway. So yeah, I did that. Let's see what else happened. It was the Labor Day weekend. So I didn't have to work as many days and I ended up watching different stuff. Oh, we watched a movie together. As we'll talk about that after this. That's right. We will. And yeah, I guess I was kind of a chill, chill week. Nice. For the most part. Let's see. I read a book. Oh, yeah.
I think I want to recommend it, though. OK, no, not for book club. OK, just for say I'll probably mention it because I've been thinking about it since then and maybe the whole recommendation. Yeah, it's going to come up. Been thinking a lot about gender this week. OK. Sounds exciting. We'll save it for the recommendation then. How about you? I am at the dry dead season eight of my game of thrones rewatch you really tore through it. I did for real.
Like so fast, like a couple of weeks, maybe like three weeks. Yeah. I mean, I'm starting to see like it's believable, maybe not to the extent, but that Daenerys kind of goes bad. Like she kind of is cutthroat and all this stuff throughout the show. And like would have done bad things even sooner if she didn't have her advisors. So. It's not like out of the realm of being believable. Spoilers for that, by the way. Oh, yeah. Yeah. All of it is what are the like pacing or something.
There's just no there's like no chemistry between her and Jon Snow. And it's just yeah. So I'll truck through that and then be done with my and then I'll define something else when I don't feel like doing anything actively. And I just want to sit on the couch and do nothing. Big brother is still good. The challenge is good. Although the hottie that I always like to watch got eliminated. So that's a plumber. Rip Rossio so fine. Oh, bad. Maybe next year. No, I don't think he's coming back.
Ah, well, that was stating. You did your best, I guess. Man, oh, well. Oh, yeah. Oh, I have something I'm looking forward to. You know, I guess what that is. Is it TwitchCon? No, well, yes, no, that's all I was going to say. You bought Baldur's Gate three. I'm going to play Baldur's Gate three. That's right. It's on sale. So I bought it. We'll see if I end up with ends up happening. I'm willing me enough to play through it. This seems like it's going to be the the winter of.
Role playing games for me because it's like I got this. One of my friends is like, oh, I want to do like a one shot pathfinder thing. So I guess I'm going to be doing that soon. And then other of my friends are like, oh, we need to do another like tabletop RPG that I did like a year ago or like two years ago or something. And I was like, yeah, sure, we can bring this back. Now I got to plan that out. Damn. Oh, man. This happens. You're a yes man. I suppose. Are you is it wrath of the righteous?
The pathfinder you're going to play? I have no idea. There's like this. You said like I got this text from my friend like a week or like three days ago. Like, yeah, sure, whatever I'll do. I'll put a new one. I think some new content just came out for it. I've played a lot of those. I have played a smidge of both of the video games. I know they're based off of. Have you played any of the like the actual tabletop roleplaying games? Never in my life. Hmm. Are you interested?
Oh, no, that's too much commitment. Oh my God, I got to go somewhere and do it. No, you don't have to. You can do it online. I've always done it online. OK. I don't know. No touch back on this. Maybe you can join the one. Maybe. Oh, man. Perhaps. But yeah, so that's something like for it to maybe we'll even stream it to the show, Joe, which account I made that we haven't done yet. I got to learn how to play it first. Well, just get three.
Oh, I look so excited because I haven't been thinking you're not going to like my decision making. You're not going to like the only way I'm going to experience different things within the game is by like watching in horror. So when else does it? OK. But yeah, OK. So we'll probably have more to discuss on that front next. Yeah, well, this will be like a segment where we give updates on our Baldur's Gate. Yeah. Yeah. OK, yes. I look forward to that.
Well, hey, if you like show Joe for the romance, then you would like Baldur's Gate for the wrong. There's no way. There's no way. I'm talking to you. I'm talking to our viewers here. I saw some of the videos of like girls passively or they just play the Sands or whatever, but then they saw a star in one of the characters and they're like, everybody likes to play all good. The loser vampire, right?
Yeah, I mean, our other male options are a little lackluster in comparison as far as like OK, I'm being engaging. So sure, there's also daddy Halson. I don't know who that is. Well, I'm out. And OK. Well, that's that. Do we want to get into our finale episode? No, before that, we tried to. So we did try to. OK, I'm going to talk about now. Watching the ring. Yes, I want to get this out of the way.
And we watched it and then we tried to record an episode and we got about 15 minutes in and then we were done saying things. Yes. Here's our here's your mini little thing about us watching the ring. So what do you think about the ring? Do it. I think it was Ringu, by the way, the Japanese one from 80 or 98. 98. Yeah. It was fine. It wasn't scary, which is disappointing. We didn't even see that much. Sotico. Yeah, we did. Yeah, we saw her, though. We're like, it's our girl. Yes.
Yes. Yeah. It's fun. Like, I think it's pretty good. Like, it's much more of like a suspense thing and like an investigation than it is like horror stuff that you would kind of associate. Like the American remake is much more like jump scare. Yeah. Horror, monster movie kind of thing. This is a much more like, what is this weird thing happening? Let's go investigate this thing and that thing. But she does pop out of the TV at the end and that's pretty good.
Yeah. Yeah. Interesting sound effects at parts and yeah. We liked the setting in the 90s. Yes, it's a real period. Yeah. Like they're using pay phones. Everything's like this. Everything's wood. No carpet. They said no to carpet. Well, I don't like carpet. Carp. You know, they don't want to reckon stuff and they have to vacuum that. Oh, I guess. Uh, yeah. So kid. Yeah. Imagine us trying to stretch that conversation beyond 15 minutes. Yeah, this is basically it. This is just so far as I should.
So not the greatest bonus episode of all time. Yeah. So we're not going to release it. So we got you this. This is this is our feelings. We'll come up with other bonus episodes in the future that have more substance to them probably. Yes. If you have bonus episode ideas, freaking email us at snowjopod.com. You know, they made a Jurassic Park kids TV show. We could watch the Jurassic Park. Campertation. Hell, yeah. Is it is it good? Yeah. I enjoyed it as an adult, a grown ass adult. So yeah.
And they just, yeah, because it's been like they're like cranking that out quick because I think it's starting the pandemic and there's already like four seasons of it. It's like they've been really fast turnaround on that. I am so down to watch all the Jurassic Park content with you. And we might just do the bonus. And you'll you'll like point out flaws and it'll be like, shut up. Down with its perfection. You think it's going to do is point out flaw like that's what I do. Like I'm cinema sins.
What is this? I don't know. It's not how I engage with things. Thank you very much. I don't know. I'm just afraid you're going to say it was OK. And I'm going to be devastated. That was a life changing for you. Jurassic Park for me. How much stuff is there? We can do like a Jurassic Park side content series. Yeah. Oh, my God. Yeah. Because they're rebirthed. The frigging one with Scarlett Johansson.
Like, oh, here we go with another movie where it's just going to be about this famous actor instead of about dinosaurs eating people. They've lost their roots. Yeah. Like. Oh, not action. Like, or I rather lean into more scary than just like pretty people. You know, oh, whatever. We'll get into it in our Jurassic podcast that we're now going to do. Yeah. A very. We're going to try to tie this into a show just now. Sorry, dinosaur. We can give it everyone. Are there dinosaur enemies?
Dragon Ball has dinosaurs in it. There's no like dedicated dinosaur ones. There is there. Really, it's not mainstream ones. I can think of off the top. I can't think of any. Oh, man. Maybe older ones. Maybe. We're going to research into that. OK, my dog is getting noisy. So why don't you start off the actual discussion of the last episode of Keeping it. All right. Well, here we are at the very end of the road.
It's been a long, it's been a long journey that leads us to the final episode of keeping me to OK, that has been released thus far and maybe ever. Who knows? Season three, episode five is called Happy Moment. We hop right back into the Christmas party. I was wrong. We did not get a time skip. We're just right back at it. Cause I have is thinking about how he saw Sawako in I on a leave a little while ago when the like final scenes of last episode were happening.
And he's about to go after him or after them, but is bombarded with requests from a bunch of different classmates because he's the host and they're like grabbing by the shoulders and stuff. Off of him. Why are you too friendly with him? Yeah. It's very funny. People like freaking you don't even have names. Get out of my face. Wow. It's very funny because later we learned that cause I high. I just kind of doesn't really like any of these people. Yeah. Oh, I can see why.
Yeah. He shakes them off and runs out to see Sawako Pin and Mogi hanging out in the hallway. What a scene. Then throws his arm around him and is like, hey, man, you missed some stuff. And then pins and Sawako off and fills cause I high in on the situation. Now alone, Pin asks cause I high at how him and Sawako have been doing. How's the how's the dating life going? And cause I high I says it's been six months and pins like, wow. And you haven't been intimate at all with her in that time.
That's some real self-restraint. Nice work, man. Keep it up forever. And cause I high a wonders if that's really the right thing to do. And pin is like, yeah, man, who knows? And then he's like, oh, look at the time. Party's over. And he goes and he stamps over to the room to tell the kids that the party's over and they all have to go home. I don't understand. Why is he like, oh, it's so good that you haven't done anything intimate with your girlfriend? That's good. Digging out.
He knows that's what cause I high is agonizing over. So he's just picking at that. Yeah, it's like, yeah, he's just trolling. He's just trolling. OK. Or maybe trying to pick at it so that cause I high I like reacts enough to freaking snap out of this. Super. Oh, we'll see. We'll see what snaps him out of it. Everybody's getting their stuff to leave. So he'll grab Ion's bag and she turns to see the Kento and Ioni just standing
there together. Ioni tells her that she's going to walk home with Kento's as angels we have heard on high starts playing in the background because it's Christmas time, baby. I was not a song that I recognize. They leave and then she's in Rio show up and she's like, what's the party over? Were we gone for that long? And so it goes like, yeah, it is also Ioni already left. Rio called Chizu over and Sawako sees the gift in her hand. And she tells Sawako that she'll fill her in later.
Everybody leaves cause I high at things to himself that whenever he's close to Sawako, he feels like he's going to lose control. Whatever that means. He thinks about how he wants to kiss her and eliminate the space between him and her, but says he shouldn't because he can only cherish her if he holds her at a distance. Holds her at a distance. Stupid. Dumb. Dumb, dumb, dumb. They're about to leave. Some classmates say very loudly that they thought they had broken up.
They're like, oh, those two are together. That's weird that they had broken up. And that's why they came to the class party instead of like, you know, going on a date or doing anything that people who date do. Yeah, you tell them. Yeah, you go. Random extra get their ass. Oh, they walk home. Sawako wonders to herself if they really are still a couple. Then she wonders if they'll even be able to see each other over winter break.
And, you know, maybe one day they'll just wake up and realize that they're actually not a couple anymore. And that's how it'll end. She remembers Kento's words that he said. That's like, if things are going tough, she should just close her eyes and wait to five, which she's like, oh, I should actually do that. She tugs on his sleeve, so he turns around and she closes her eyes. How does the high seas this and then hesitates? And instead of doing anything, he just asks her what's wrong.
And she starts crying. She calls him a liar and says that he said that the next time she did that, he wouldn't know what he would do. But it turns out he does know what he would do. He would ask her a dumb question. And he said, and yeah, he says nothing. And she's also like, and you also said that nothing was bothering you earlier, but clearly something was bothering you earlier. And also we went to this party and like it sucked because like I felt like you just ignored me the whole time.
You tell him. Tell him. She thinks to herself how she wasn't even able to give him his Christmas gifts this year. And she asks if he still likes her. And in response, he leans in and kisses her. I haven't known here about this kiss. This is the worst looking kiss I've seen animated. And that's why it is like they. Oh my gosh, like their lips are just touching. They're not even locking lips. It's just like raising each other. The worst kiss. I mean, I get it.
It's first kiss, so it's always pretty bad, but this is especially bad. First kisses are bad. So bad. That's true. Never good. But at least you are. I feel like when you have a first kiss, you're like a little bit more into it than this maybe. Yes. This is pretty. This is pretty rough. Yeah. They go ahead of a couple more times. Yeah, they're trying to figure it out. Oh, my God. I'm saying that. Doesn't really feel like they ever quite figure it out.
And then comes a hug sir and says that he loves her. So I'll go start sobbing as they embrace in the snow. She's really crying, man. She's really crying. Together. And it's been a harrowing six months. They calm down and some of the comments that Kazekai is finally looking at her. Kazekai says, quote, can't you see that I love you on quote? And so it says yes. Now, which is stupid.
He then says they should talk and some of the calls her parents to tell her that or to tell them that she's going to be late. But her dad takes issue with this and Kazekai is like, let me talk to him. So then he talks to him on the phone. At some point, he says something to him, but we don't get to hear it. But it got a little moment. So must have been something. Kazekai hangs up and says they've got 45 minutes and then they walk off holding hands. They go to a cafe.
Apparently the only cafe they ever go to because I think it's the same one that he went to with Kanto, but I'm not sure. It's pretty funny. Kazekai tells her that he wanted her to celebrate Christmas with everybody. Unlike last year, by doing that, ended up making her feel isolated. And then he apologizes for that. He says that he shouldn't have made her upset like that. And that's on him.
He had vowed to cherish her and thought that spending Christmas with all the classmates would be what she wanted. Also, he wanted to kiss her for like the last three months, but wasn't able to because he just loved her so much, he couldn't control it. Which has been going on ever since they met. She is like ever since we met and he's like, yeah, ever since we met. This pumped his chest like a man.
He says that he's self-centered and doesn't really care about what other people think, which is why he can only open up to a few people and always holds everybody at a distance. But he can't hold her at a distance because he does care what she thinks. So Kanto puts her hand on his and Kazekai gets flashbacks of the prior scenes from his perspective where he wanted to covet Saloko, but couldn't.
Like that one time, Kanto asked if it was OK if he could talk to Saloko in the hallway if he didn't mind, but it turns out he did mind, but he couldn't say anything. That's so many things to talk about. This whole conversation will get to it. OK, he thinks that every time they meet up, he's the one that falls deeper in love. He tells Saloko that he loves her and that. And for that reason, he might end up hurting her with all of his selfishness. Saloko then places both hands on his.
And thinks to herself that he doesn't know how much joy he brings to everyone else. She says that he's right. He's the only one that can hurt her, but because he's so important to her. And she wants to be with him regardless. They exchange Christmas gifts. They got each other gloves. Gloves, gloves, gloves, gloves, open with that freaking pocket. It looks so dumb. His RPG pocket. Yes, I hate it. Lame. It's very funny. Her gloves look nice. Yes, those are cute gloves.
We got a voiceover from Saloko saying that if they solve their problems together, their love will grow. Let me know when you want to talk about those things because I'm just going to keep going. If it's not right because it's all right or some shit like. Well, you are not into this at all. I hate it. I was like, this is so toxic. Like. Do I talk about it now or do you want to get to the end? No, let's let's just throw it and then I can. About it. Well, you're really negative about this.
OK, OK, let's see. Did they walk home together holding hands without gloves so that their skin can touch the tape the gloves. So they can hold each other's hand directly. Hot intimacy. Saloko tells him that even though he says she doesn't know him like the real him, she thinks that she does because the impressions that he gives are real. She thinks. His doubts. Oh, yeah. Oh, OK. Yeah, everybody has lots of real self-loathing in this season.
She thinks that even if she's wrong about that, it wouldn't matter because it would work out anyway because they could work it out. We cut to pin eating ramen at Ryu's dad's restaurant and ranting about Kazehaya being stubborn. Cheezoo and Ryu are eating ramen right next to him and are annoyed that they have to listen to this. Eventually, Cheezoo gets so annoyed that she stands up and starts yelling at him.
We get a quick scene of Ayane and Kento sitting at a train station as I as Saloko gives a voice over about how closing the distance with somebody is a difficult, ongoing process. But she will persist anyway because when you all love something, it's worth it. We cut back to Saloko and Kazehaya walking. Saloko says that she got jealous when someone else got his gift from the gift exchange. And she says so like she's like him kind of because he could still he says he could still what?
Not at all. Not at all. It's not the same. Oh, my God. That is what she's saying. She's like, I'm also getting jealous sometimes. Like this time someone got a gift and it's like, I don't know if that's really the same. Oh, my God. Then she says she stops and says she can walk the rest of the way home and he protests. He's like, but we're like so close. She walks over and kisses him on the cheek. She apologizes for calling him a liar and runs off.
Kazehaya squats down an embarrassment and says that she can call him a liar forever. Yeah, she gets home and her mom is like what? Get walked home all the way because she wanted to sneak a little kiss in without her parents saying. That's right. And we're back to Kazehaya crouching just like the good old guys season one. He hasn't outgrown that. Sawako gets home and her mom is like, wow, I thought you'd stay out later. And her dad's like, what do you mean? Why would you stay out later?
The mom's like, whatever. Sawako would take a bath and she just ignores her dad. He just ignores the dad. Um, Sawako takes a bath. Hair bun. Finally. Her hair. She put her hair up. Sawako takes a bath and thinks about her kiss with Kazehaya. Nighttime falls over the town. Mar is sleeping soundly. It's 2 30 a.m. Kazehaya is not sleeping soundly and is replaying the events of today in his head. He gets a call on his cell phone and thinks it's from Sawako.
He answers and upon realizing that it's somebody else, he immediately hangs up. And then he's like, oh, shoot, I hung up. He gets called back and learns that it's Kento calling him and then immediately hangs up. He's like, oh, wait, I don't hate that guy. I just remembered that I don't hate that guy. Kento calls him one last time and he takes the call. He thinks to himself that Kento was one of the people he could open up to, which is OK, man. You go, you get you get T one time with a guy.
Yeah, Kento is like, I thought I'd keep you in the loop, man. So I'm going to I'm going to update you on everything that's happened. I'm officially dating Ayane now. And Kazehaya is shocked and tells him that he's happy for him. Kento relays the events of last episode to him. And he clarifies that the reason he punched Mogi is because he didn't like what he said about Ayane and maybe he was kind of jealous of him that he got to date her for a little bit. So that's the reason why.
Not the best reason. No, like the violence. So he punched him in a rage. Cool. No wonder you guys like I like him. We love reactive, impulsive, angry boys. Oh, man, you hate him. We'll get into it. OK. Then Kento is like, what about things on your end, man? And Kazehaya is like, oh, and he kind of stalls. But then Kento is like, you know, like, never mind. You don't have real problems anyway.
Instead, he keeps talking about how great his girlfriend is for like two hours until Kazehaya passes out. This is the best can't behavior thus far. Go back to hanging up on him, dude. He deserves to be sleeper deprived as Kent talks about how great Ayane is for two hours. Soika wakes up the next day. She does a gift exchange with her parents and they give her a big coat and a scarf. She got her parents a scarf and a shawl. And then her dad goes to work on Christmas Day, bro.
I would be so pissed if I had to go to work on Christmas Day. Real. I would. They better be paying me fat overtime checks or else I'm my office space style burning the place down. It's crazy. Ayane and she's who come over to hang out. They all have news to tell each other and then nobody wants to go first as they all sit in Solico's room just around a table. She's who gets auntie and make Solico first goes first. So because about to tell them stuff.
But then she thinks back to her conversation about Ayane and things that may be telling her that she's in capital L love is not the best idea. So instead, she kind of vaguely says that she cleared things up with Kasehia. Ayane is like, oh, yeah, you talk to him and Solico says yes. And that's for the first time they feel like a real couple. She's a freak. Sad it says that Solico and Kasehia's relationship is so simple. Well, how come it's so easy for you?
And then she remembers that she said like an episode ago that Kasehia was worried about something and is like, oh, wait, there was a problem. Yeah. Solico fills her in on the events of last episodes. And once again, she the cheese is the last to know anything. Anyway, it's Jesus turn now to share her news. But she doesn't want to. So she deflects. So it's actually Ayane's turn, I guess. She says that she's dating Kento now and Solico congratulates her and starts crying.
She's who's like, what the hell? That guy, the annoying guy we all hate. Why? Yeah. And I honestly was like, oh, yeah, you haven't been in any of those scenes for the last two episodes. Then she's like, I have been. Oh, yeah. And then she's like, has that really been out of it for like that long? And they're like, yes, you have not been in the same scenes as us this season. Ayane relays the events of season three to Chizu.
She says that Kento is a sweet guy and isn't like any of the other guys she dated. But she's kind of dismayed because she doesn't have faith in herself to deserve a guy like him. She's who laughs and says that he is a cool guy like that. Then there's no problem because like he'll just be cool. Whatever, you're thinking too much. And now it's Jesus turn. She's like, I shouldn't have gone last because my story kind of sucks
in comparison to y'all story. Yeah. But she shows them the perverse the perverse flower. And I was like, what perverse do you mean preserved? She's like, oh, which made me feel like an idiot for looking it up last time. Yeah. Sawako and Ayane admire it and she's who's like, does it remind you of me? And they're like, what? Sawako is like, yeah, it does kind of remind me of you. And I only is like, why are you freaking out again? Where did you get this? You got it from Ryu, right?
And she's just like, oh, yeah, I got it from Ryu. And then she tries to change the subject. And I only is like, no, you tell me right now what you talked about after he gave us to you. And she's who's like, oh, you know, like normal stuff. And I was like, no, what did you actually talk about? Stop deflecting. She says that they talked about when they were kids.
He told and then and then he told her that Tori was coming back for New Year's and that she's going to go see him and Sawako and Ayane are like, oh, you want to go check if your feelings for him were gone, huh? Anyway, what about you and Ryu? Do you get butterflies around him now? And she's like, yes, I do kind of get butterflies around him now. And they all squee. Yeah, that was fun.
Sawako shows them the gloves she got from Kazahaya and she's jokes that she should thank him with a kiss and Sawako looks away. And they're like, oh, you did already, huh? You'll make in relationship progress without telling us. And Sawako says that she cannot confirm or deny the existence of a kiss or not. She's who asks Sayone what she got from Kento. And she's like, I got a bouquet of roses, but they got destroyed by Joe. And she's like, for real, like, this is really a high schooler.
I honestly, at least we didn't have to see him this episode. Joe. Yeah, just mention of him. Oh, what she commented about like, is Kento really a high schooler? Because that is like a very adult thing to get somebody. Because bouquets of roses are expensive. Apparently in real life, yeah. Really, like 30 bucks or something. Um, I think well, these ones are probably pretty nice, right?
Because according to the florist he got it from, they might be this arrangement of flowers might be extinct in 10 years time. Did you go drinking last night? No. OK. It's like sometimes my voice gets gross after drinking. I think my voice is gross because I'm like. I think it's nothing. You're saying I felt OK, fine. Let me clear my throat over here. You, man, man, because you made me do this. Sorry. Um, yeah, they're like red roses. But the inside like the inside of the petals are white.
And that's like a special thing. But like the farmer who breeds these flowers is about to retire, blah, blah, blah. And then I on is like, I wonder where I'll be in 10 years. And then they all think about it. And then Savakos like, well, I hope we still hang out together like we are now. And they were like, of course, we'll be together forever. All right, I'm back. Do I sound better? Yes. Great. Thanks for pointing this out on like. Sorry to cut out as much as you want.
OK. Hey, well, my I progress the plot. Yeah, yeah. So I was going to bring some money, Gary and her mom fills and then her mom gets filled in all the updates because she's like, I love gossip. Then her mom invites the girls to stay for Christmas dinner. And then she's like, oh, yeah, you guys should invite your boyfriends, too. That'd be fun. They were all kind of daunted by that. But do it anyway. Cause I high and you show up.
We go to Salco's room and sees she's there with the rose that he gave her. And he's like, did you seriously bring that to show everyone? And she's like, yeah. And then he's like, OK, it's kind of embarrassing. It's like, maybe don't do that. He's blushing. I can't. So I was about to see cause I high into the room, but she's she's in real alone. So she slams the door instead. She's like, I should give them space. So where? Yes. It's really smooth. Yeah, social awareness.
Woo. She asked how they hire if it was a problem coming over. And he says, no, it's all good. And everything's fine. She tries to say something, but it but says it too softly. So then she like squats down and whispers to it instead. And she opens the door and sees them whispering on the floor. And they're like, what is happening? Kento shows up with a on a. He goes to cause a high and says, hey, man, been a while since we talked, huh? And cause I highest like stop talking to me.
So I go, his dad comes home and is welcomed by the kids. He thinks that Ryu is a brute and Kent, there's a player. He goes to cause a high and is like, are you still serious? But my daughter and cause a high, I says, yes. Then her dad notices that he's short. But then he's shorter than Salco. But really, it's just that he's standing in the inch away, which is like a step down. And he's like, Wendy, Salco gets so old.
She's just like, oh, hey, yeah, she just totally dismisses, but she's just like. Let's move on from that comment, dad. Oh, yeah. She does not care. She sees him and is like, oh, hey, it's that hat. He was that was supposed to go to cause a high up. But then I honest stops her before she could say the whole sentence. But he seems to understand what's going on. Salco tells the group that she can't go to New Year's with them because she wants to spend it with her parents.
Also that she's going to try to make soba noodles from scratch, which everybody's impressed by, because apparently it sucks to do. That's not a fun birthday. Yeah, it is also a birthday. He'd think she'd want to do something else. So it's make no soba noodles. Salco's dad is sitting outside the room, kind of like listening in. And then Kent rounds the corner and drags them in. They all celebrate Christmas together. Kento talks up cause a high to Salco's dad while her mom chats with the girls.
Salco thinks back to how lonely she was in season one compared to now, where everybody's hanging out. Salco says that she hopes she can be like this with everyone forever. Everyone heads home. Cause I high it tells her that he'll be busy helping his parents till New Year's, but he'll keep in touch with her. Salco's dad shows up and tells cause a high that they're all welcome to come again. Even you cause a high they all leave. Her dad tells Salco that she can hang out with them on New Year's.
But Salco says it's OK. She wants to stay home this year and make her soba late at night. While Salco sleeps, her parents go through their Christmas album together. Her dad says that Salco is a lot more mature than he thought. If Salco moves to a new city when she graduates, they'll only have one more year all living together. We get a voice over from Salco saying that she's happy, that she gets to spend time with the people she loves. She wishes it will never end as we cut to credits.
Confusingly, the credit sequence is Salco and Kaze high doing New Year's, the thing she said she wasn't going to do. But I think they went during the day. Like daytime before she makes the noodles at night. Probably that makes sense. Mm hmm. Oh, end of the series. How did we feel? I didn't like it. No. No, not really. OK. What happened? Well, one, I don't know. I just feel like they didn't really say anything. This I just don't like the conversation they had.
I was like, this doesn't really feel like basically it's just like, I'm going to suck. And she's like, I'm OK with that. That's it. OK, it's not really how I interpret the conversation. I'm going to suck. OK, keep talking. I was just talking with this conversation. Is I called it on his reasons for why he's being a dumbass. And it's a there's no good reasons for for giving him the cold shoulder like that.
Because he's horny. Yes. I mean, it's not that he's that's not really the reason why it's just part of a cherish that doesn't mean. OK, yes. What what is I was talking to my mom about this and she's like, yeah, he keeps saying cherish, which is kind of weird. And I'm like, yeah, I guess it's just like some translation thing. But now it's this is like a focal point. This is like a critical. What is he talking about? He doesn't want to file her innocent. I guess. Yeah. Is that what this is?
That's hard for me. Because I was reading because like when I was first watching this, I was like, oh, we should call this episode like the theory of conservatism or something like. Because this is what it kind of feels like where it's like, oh, is this some like weird Christian boy ideology thing going on?
But I it seems more like because he leans a little bit more on like the oh, I don't want to hurt you by getting too close to you thing, which is like not really about being that's more of her. More by not. Yeah. But like this is this is a feeling people get of like emotional intimacy, you know what I mean? Or it's like, you know them so well, you could do things to hurt them in some way. Yeah, that's like a real thing. I don't think that's related to being horny necessarily.
That being said, I mean, yeah, this is unsatisfying. I'm sorry, keep going. I didn't mean to. No, I don't know. I think I was going to say, yeah, I mean, I certainly don't like being emotionally vulnerable, but I'm not going to like totally shut down any growth with a person for that reason. I yeah, I agree. This is just very unsatisfying resolution. I mean, technically, like from what I looked up, it seems like the manga continues on quite a bit after this.
So it's like maybe this does come up as like not a permanent solution. Like I think there'd be enough to do a season four and five possibly. So OK, more issues arise from this not being a very good conclusion to this arc. OK, those are not like the end. No, definitive end. Yeah, well, freaking where is Karumi? No, she did not show up. No, Karumi. Brief moment on the school trip. Cameo so unsatisfying. That's pretty nice. Such a strong character.
Yeah. OK, I want to I want to talk more about the Kazi high stuff. Yeah. Because I also feel some real ambivalence about this. Like on one hand, you know, it's good that they resolve their problems. And it's one of these things where it's like I like the scene, like I like how the scene was animated and framed and stuff. And it's great that they get to kiss and it wasn't a great kiss. None of them. It wasn't a great setup for a kiss either. I don't think you should kiss under distress dress.
Yeah, I stop crying. I'll just kiss you and make you forget about the things you're angry at me. Pops. It kind of goes back to my complaint that Kazi high never like says stuff. He always just does. He does things, but will not. Even when he opens up here, he's not really opening up all the way, you know. Yeah, which is fine. I mean, you know, that's it's like a difference between like what these characters would do versus like what I think is satisfying, right?
Like, I think it's very in character for the stuff that he does, but I just don't think it's that satisfying. You know, like. I'm still being like, yes, that conversation with Penn, where Penn's like, oh, great, you've had so much restraint. That's awesome. Restrain is great. Never. Terrier friggin. And then cause a high is like, that's what I was doing in solos. And so I was like, yeah, that's great. It's great that you did that because I wouldn't have been able to handle it.
And I'm like, yes, you wouldn't. What? You wanted it, girl. Yeah, she did. She did. Like what's happening here? And she's like, oh, yeah, you were being considerate of me. I don't know if I would have been able to handle it. And the answer is like, come on, like everybody's underestimating solos here. I feel like she could handle it. She was ready to kiss you several months ago, dude. Yeah. But we're just going to pretend like she wasn't. I don't understand. Yeah, I know you friggin.
So that was her trump card is to do the close my eyes because it's what I like. Ah, I yeah. I just this was satisfying. We didn't really get much more into either of our other two girls and their things and right. Yeah, I mean. Like it's it's good that she tried to do it. She did try to take control of her situation. Right. I like. But it's it's still OK. I think about gender a lot, as I said.
OK, right. Yeah. I read this book called The Tombs of Ottawa, and that that is a book all about gender, because it's like a you have like a girl that's like the main character as opposed to like the previous earthy book where a guy was there like a boy was the main character.
And the other thing is that she's like, I mean, you know, the author talks in the afterword about that specifically and like what kind of power society affords girls and boys and that kind of thing and like how you can use and stuff like that. So I have two minds here where it's like I think it's good that Sawako takes tries to take the initiative and like a last each effort to like invite him to kiss her. But it also kind of sucks that the most bold thing she can do is an invitation
for him to do with it. You know what I mean? Oh, totally. Yeah. That is not. I'm so sad to me that that's like the most we can get out of it. And then she just has to break down and cry. And that's the only other move she's got. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, I feel like if she had just had a conversation even, like she didn't have to get to the point of crying it. Like if she had just taken the initiative to talk about what was wrong, it would have had to get to that point.
Yeah, like it sucks that the only mode she has is like I can either hint that I want a thing or I basically just have to have like a meltdown in front of you. And there's no like middle ground, you know what I mean? Like there's no in the middle stuff that you can do where she would feel comfortable saying stuff without like having to be so emotionally charged about it. You should be able to talk to your girlfriend about stuff that's important without her breaking down crying is what I'm saying.
Like you should not have to get to that point. You should have some steps in the middle. Yeah. That you should feel comfortable being able to do. Right. Oh, it sucks that she doesn't have that. And I feel like even at the end here, she still kind of doesn't have that because I don't as much as Kaziha is like, I'm going to open up more. I don't know if he's going to. No. Maybe he won't. He opens up to Kent, which is weird. Yeah, that didn't feel organic either.
Because basically in the phone call, he acknowledged that he wasn't even paying attention in that conversation that they did have having tea. So it's like, why does he think, oh, this is the guy that I can open up to about what he's even paying attention to that conversation? Well, that conversation did sound really boring. I mean, Kent at one point is like, actually, I don't care about your problems, which is very funny.
But it also makes me think that Kaziha is like things he has people he can open up to like he thinks he's opening up to people, but really he's just doing like a surface level. Here's how I feel about that. You know what I mean? It's like having a kind of deep conversation with somebody versus an actually deep conversation with somebody. You know what I mean? Because of how I think he's doing it, but I don't think he's actually doing it. Yeah. Yep. Yep.
But that, you know, they made up. They kissed. It was cute. They kissed a couple of times. I like how they had to kiss a couple of times because they weren't getting it. That good. I did like that detail. Well, I'm assuming that's more of like, oh, Kaziha said if he did it, then it'd be like breaking a dam and he won't be able to stop. And that was kind of like the acting upon that. Like once he did it, then it's like, I just want to keep doing it. But yeah. Yeah. How do we feel about that?
Much better job at making that look like a better kiss. Like where their lips actually do something. Oh, what do we feel about the how being physically intimate is like portrayed in this series? I don't like I mean, I understand that, like in show Joe, it always has such a significant toll on like people's emotions and like mean so much when it happens, even though in reality, it's like the earliest in Western culture, the stakes aren't that intense.
So I can see why they're so hesitant to do things with the like social pressure of like the meaning of it or how just a kiss means. Oh, damn, you guys are super serious. Well, when it's such a natural normal thing to do, especially teenagers with all those hormones. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I think it's fine to like have to portray the significance of certain stuff of this stuff, right?
Yeah. I don't like how every time Kasehi is horny, it's always framed as a bad like it's bad that he should be like ashamed that he is. I think that's really. Yeah, he's the only one thinking that. He is the only one thinking that. I mean, other people say like the guy, you know, the adult band are like, oh, it's like the dad's job to be like, don't hands off my daughter. Yeah, I mean, that's like a very stock trope thing, right?
Yeah. Like there's no break from that, I guess, to where I'm like, I don't really know if the show agrees that that with that idea or not. Because I don't really get any portrayal of anything else, right? Like we get Ayane who will make out with people and not really care. Yeah, but that's also kind of framed as a bad thing, not because of that, of making out with people because it's like, you don't really care about these people like that's not great.
So it's like the only time somebody is like a little more loose with like their sexuality, it's also kind of framed as like not great thing. But again, I don't think that's about like doing sexual acts or whatever, like intimate acts, if that's more just about like hanging out with people who suck. So I don't know where it lands for me on this. I feel like this ends up being kind of like it's bad that cause a high gets horny. Yeah, it's not a very good satisfying end.
But even though nobody else cares about this, but him. Nope. Yeah. Including Sawaka, who kind of also wants to be horny. But I don't like you putting it that way. What? You don't like me saying horny? It's horny. Yeah. OK, fine. Listen. Women want to do intimate things too. This is not a we are not going to sit here and pretend like the men are the only people in the world who are interested in sex at all. That is stupid. It's yeah. This is this is the real world tyranny of conservatism.
Yeah, I mean, it'll be well, I guess. I don't know, like, oh, they kissed and then that's all. But I mean, at least they did talk, but I feel like I don't know. I just yeah, I we go on and on. But basically, I just this finale wasn't that satisfying to me. I mean, it's better than like him moping around more. But I don't know. It wasn't for like a comeback after 13 years or whatever. It wasn't like cherry on the cake for me.
Yeah, I was really because I was thinking about this episode before I watched it because I realized into our episode from last episode. Yeah. And I was thinking that this is going to be about like performing kind of thing where it's like, you know, the anxiety that a lot of people seem to have in the show or in this season is about like, oh, now that I have to date this person, I have to like. Do I have to act like a boyfriend or a girlfriend?
Right? And everybody's very worried about like, am I going to be able to do it? Right? You know what I mean? Like early on, she's his whole thing with dating Ryu because they're like, oh, do you like Ryu? And she's like, yeah, but if I date him, we'd have to like kiss and stuff like she's much more worried about like the performance as I have to act like a girlfriend than her actual feelings about Ryu, right? Like that's kind of her conflict.
So I thought this was going to end with Kazahaya being like, I was just so uncertain about like what I should do as a boyfriend that I ended up just kind of not doing anything. Mm hmm. So to have it be this instead is very confusing to me because I really thought it was going to be that other thing. Now I called it. It's such an odd. I don't know. Yeah, I got to read the manga. Like I need the framing of. The framing of Oh, I just ignored you because I loved you too much is like.
Yeah, that's not a great. Oh, dumb. Like I would much rather have it be the like I didn't know what your expectations were for me as a boyfriend. So I ended up just like playing it too safe by not really doing anything, right? Which I feel like is a much more real thing than, you know, being like, oh, you're such a delicate flower, Salako. I'm just afraid I'm going to grip it too hard and break you. What? Yeah. You think your girlfriend's some kind of huge weakling, dude? Come on.
Yeah, no, it's just more underestimating her, even when he was supposedly the one that had the most faith in her in the first season. Yeah, not not great. Nope. What do we think about the other relationships? Well, I don't know. I mean, right, it's not over. So I just am assuming it would be more satisfying for the other two with the continuation of the story. I on and can't are together. I don't know. I only think a sap now. And she's being a sap. She's way too into him too fast.
Like I can't you can't set like you're set up being like, I just can't. I just don't really feel anything towards any of these guys, too. I am in love with this guy. And I don't know if I'm good enough for him into like two episodes. It's like, damn, you were so wrong about your I would rather about yourself her being like, we'll see if he doesn't ruin this or like. He's being so cringe, got to get about me. Like he better calm down.
That kind of like would be more interesting kind of like they're going out. But, you know, you still got to get her into him. And yeah, not just nonstop compliments, like more. And it does feel like that does feel like what the what the manga will do. Or probably what it does. Because like even the way like the scene is framed, we're like he is like hugging her on the stairwell. He's like, please eventually fall in love with me thing.
Yeah, I wish she was more ambivalent about him in this episode to like show that. But yeah, just more. Instead, we get her being like, am I good enough for him? And it's like, what? Yeah. What? Yeah. And then nothing really happens with Tizu. Yeah, that's true. It's so funny that this episode is her being like, wait a minute, you guys were also having plot lines this season. Yeah. That's pretty funny. Yes. I mean, that's in character for sure.
But yeah, no, she yeah, she got a rose and she knows that she likes him and that he likes her. So all of the ingredients are there. I guess we don't really mix them up. They form a relationship more conversing between them that. Yeah, some kind of significance that we get to see. That's true. Were you to knock it that much? No. Many lines this season. I can't buy into it if I don't even see it.
So yeah, if you let's see, if you had to rate each of the seasons on a scale of one to ten, what would you rate them? So I feel like season one gets a significant boost from these other ones. You know, I put that one at like an eight. Yeah. It's like really good, you know what I mean? Like it's extremely solid season. I think it's very good. It doesn't really end up paying off any of the relationship stuff in that one. But I think the setup is so good.
And like the types of like the fact that engaged not just with romance plots, but also like what does it mean to be friends with somebody? Like when should you intervene with things? What do you do when you don't know what to say stuff? I think all of that stuff is really solid. Yeah. How about you? Oh, I guess I should say that. Season two, the pit that is season two. Season two is pretty rough. I still like the characters. And so I think that bumps it from like a five to a six maybe. Mm hmm.
But it's still like it's it's fine. Like I'd probably watch it all in a day and then kind of forget about it. Yeah. The season three. I like season three more than season two. So I guess this would be either a six or a seven. OK, I'm going to do just since I've watched more show, Joe, I might score more drastically just because I'll be comparing to what I know. Else is out there. So Joe wise. So for a show, Joe goes, I think you need to. OK, season one is like a nine for a 10 possibly.
It's really good. Yeah. And then season two, I think because I had hopes for the future. It didn't feel so dark at the time. Probably like a six and then season three. I don't know. Maybe six as well. I like now that we're done with it. Like I don't know. The first half of the season was good. I think I haven't loved the second half as much after the school trip. Yeah. I did give me a cry, though. Season two and three both made me cry.
So they did, I guess, good enough to evoke that emotion, not that I'm like hard to bring to tears. Yeah, I don't know. We'll see if the season four comes out. If not, we will do a bonus where I read the manga and then we can be fulfilled in that. Yeah, we can we can read it if it doesn't. Yeah, if we don't think it's going to. Yeah. Yeah, have a top characters this season. Top characters. We do this season or throughout the whole thing. I guess this season we can't really do that whole thing.
Yeah. We already did the first two. Oh, what did we do? Top five or top three? What did we do? Three or five? Top three. Oh, man. Well, OK, who's who's taking the biggest hit? Who's dropping off the most causing highest drop off the most? He is. Well, he's never been in either of our top threes for any. I know, but he's even lower. He's like, not even in contention anymore. I'm ranking above him at this point. OK, so there was no Karrumi, so she's out.
Yeah. Ryu was kind of only in the first half. Really didn't get that much of him. Nope. We got a lot of Kanto, but do I like him in this season as much? Kind of like him being a little shit. And he kind of was a little shit in this season. He was kind of just like, what if I was a romantic protagonist or whatever? I mean, I think number one, Sawako, she was really good in this season. She did everything right and kept getting punished for it. But she didn't do everything right.
Yeah. And was a cool bro the whole time. And I wasn't frustrated with her like I was in season two. Yeah. I think she she gets she gets number one. Number two, I mean, we got a lot of Iane, but I didn't I didn't super love it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's tough. This is tough. Who is the second best here? I maybe Cheezoo. She didn't get that. She was very good comedy bits in this one. And we had the flashback with her. Yeah, it's Cheezoo for two, I think. And then number three is, I guess, Iane.
I still like her. She still does. I mean, there was the part where Cheezoo was zoning out and she's like, we can throw chips into her mouth. That was pretty good. Yeah. Or making fun of her for like not being able to share her romance story. In this last episode was pretty good. Yeah. Like Iane is great when she's interacting with the girls. Yeah. So yeah, she'll get number three there. So girl trifecta for season three. Up of Sawako at number one as well. Yeah. Yeah. Sawako's mom at number two.
Still work this season. She is inviting Kazehaya and all the friends over, dismissing her dad's silliness. She has real eyeballs more this season. She stops being with the girls. That's fun. That is fun. Her mom's very funny. Yeah. And she just runs into them when they're walking home in the first episode. Yes, I know. She's like, oh, you're dating somebody cool. He should come over. Yeah. And then number three, I'll do Iane just because her stuff in the first half of the season was interesting.
Yeah. She had good outfits. Yes, she did have good outfits. OK, that's well. Cheezoo to doke. Not the highest end point. I was I feel like I was higher on the season two finale actually than I was on this one. Because we had hope. We had hope for season three. I think it was more dramatic season two where she's like because that's where they're at the school fair declaring. Yeah. Yeah. This one's fine. I'm fine with it. Yeah. I don't hate it as much as you do.
Yeah, it's just disappointing, I guess, but whatever. Yeah. OK. Well, well, starting the other gender thoughts. Do you have any other? What would you how? What would you do next from here? Like what would what would be the place you would go if you were writing this? I'm like trying to think of what would be the typical thing. And I don't like the thought of it. Something. Well, I'm like freaking Kent, right? He hangs out with so many chicks.
They're not going to make Ion I be like jealous or possessive of them. Are they like? Oh, God. I'm like writing that could be the thing. They would so out of their way to like establish Kento's girlfriends as like just being nice and cool. Yeah. Like I think that would be the biggest thing I would want is. Looping Kareem back in. Oh, my God. Her. What do you think her reaction to all this would be? If like if she got to. Oh, my God. Maybe that's why we haven't seen her.
She's like, I can't stand this. I have to transfer schools. It's too difficult to watch. Yeah, she's just be pissed. Like I am. Yeah, I keep think I keep imagining like Ion is off the market now. If it was Karumi instead of Saloko. That's right. Yeah, yeah, like with this with this, this like, what would she do differently as like a comparison point? I would say hi, be like, hey, what the hell?
Yeah, I think she would be like, open in her cell for still trying to be demure and mindful or whatever the hell that she was. Yeah, in the season one. That depends on that. I think I really like what are you doing, dude? Like, are we doing a really good point? Like the fact that the one scene we get of her is and then someone's like, oh, yeah, she's like really direct and haughty or whatever, which like people like it's frame is a good thing.
And it's like the thing that Saloko still isn't she is still still kind of indirect. Yeah, it's hard to overcome. It is hard to overcome. If you've been not saying it's like your life. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I think that as like the primary character arc for Saloko is good, like throughout the whole series, like that's where I would want her to end up is like being more bold and stuff like that.
Yeah, I would want to see they go into the senior year kind of figuring out what they want to from there. I'm sure there's going to be like, oh, do we go to the same school? Are we going to go to different schools and like this and blah, blah, blah. Those are probably the typical things that would happen. I don't think she's going to college. Being honest. Going to that ramen shop, working that ramen shop. That's right. Hersher and Ryu are just going to take over the shop.
And she's already been a part of the family, and then she'll just be a part of the family by marriage or something. Yeah. I know it's going to be a fashion blogger or something. Saloko, we never learned or we never learned what her career she was. Why even mention that, dude? Pin tell us, I guess a pin concerns with Ayane have been put to rest. So well, that's good. What do we see with him? Do you finally get a W or is it going to be L's forever for pin? I think you should just get L's forever.
That would be funnier. Maybe they get like a new hot teacher and he's all drooling over her. I was like, don't think you can leave me behind by graduating. I'm going to go to college with you. I need cause a hi to. What do I need him to do? It's the most like, oh, data guy who goes to therapy kind of thing with him. Or I'm like, I feel like you need to like go to therapy, dude, to like learn how to talk to people and that stuff.
His mom needs to give him a stern talk to like snap out of it, son, or like get owned by your kid brother. I feel like it's so apparent that what you're doing is wrong, dude. Like, how did. Yeah, how do we get him to open up? I don't know if it's I don't know. It needs to do it where like Sawako acts cute, like defiant. And then he'll be like, oh, belts and then bend over backwards for her and. Oh, my God. Person. The fact that cause a hi just turned out to be like a like a very typical guy
of like that. I don't really know how to talk about my feelings. I don't really like opening up. You have to coach me really hard to get anything out of me. It's like disappointing to me. Well, he did always say he was just a normal guy and Sawako is like. Oh, no, I had a stolt. I'm a normal guy. Open parentheses. Socially, you're like emotionally unavailable. Well, I see. No. Oh, man, that's such a bummer for him. Yeah, he should be weirder. He needs to get weirder.
Well, maybe it'll be in situations where a little more eclectic. Yeah, I guess maybe we'll see one day. But for. More likely. One day, that's likely the outcome. And but next we're doing Kami sama kiss, which will be a less stressful watch for sure. Right. That's frustrating to watch. There's only two seasons, though, and that goes way beyond that as well. So. Good opening, though. Good opening. So we have that to look forward to.
Unlike this season of Kimi Nijou, I feel like I will not have an opening with how bad it is. So it looks like you can watch this on crunchy roll and maybe who lose. Yeah, it's it's pretty popular, so it should be easily accessible. I'm just letting people know I think they're interested in watching this. Yeah, it's on. I don't know if it's on who it's hard to tell. Yeah, it might be on there. You can figure that out for yourself. OK. You're on your own people.
Um, Rose bouquets on one 800 flowers cost around $50. What $60? Oh, my God. This one costs $120. They're just going to die. And they'll be depressing because they died because. What if you got one preserve rose? I guess it's better. What if some dude got them for you and another dude stepped on them? Because you placed them in a bag on the floor. Well, it'd be embarrassing for people to know he had that bouquet of flowers. Like, who are you giving that to? And then, yeah, that would be bad.
Um, yeah, we'll have our second guest ever next week. My lovely sister, Caitlin loves on a kiss and will be joining us next week. She has not watched seasons three, can you need to do it? Because she is not a support of sisters. Not been listening to this point, but she will now that we're covering a show she wants. So we can't talk about camey needs to do. Okay, season three, because she doesn't seem I don't want to spoil anything for her. Do you know?
Have we talked about how many episodes we're going to watch? Oh, like per what you want to do? You want to just do like two, make it easier for ourselves. Let's watch the first two and then we'll kind of decide. So listeners, it may be either we'll say the number of episodes. It'll either be two or three. We'll see. Maybe how many episodes are there? I guess we only covered two episodes of Angelic Layer, huh? Thirty five or 25, 25 episodes.
Yeah, we did two for Angelic Layer, but the summaries for those were kind of complicated because so much happened so quick. Yeah, the summaries for this or for community to do. Okay, we're like much more straightforward. Yeah, that's true. And so that I mean, that's mostly how we're doing it. Also, I feel like they the writing in community to do. Okay, it was much more like mini arc based. That kind of makes sense. Yeah, where like Angelic Layer was like, here's this one fight.
And then here's this other fight and they're kind of their own self contained little things. Yeah, that's true. So it's easier to, you know, we're kind of talking about two different things as opposed to this, where we're kind of talking about one continuous thing. Yeah, so now we will decide two series, which one do you prefer? Oh, yeah, we can start ranking series. Oh, man. Like, I think in terms of quality, like writing quality, characterization, that stuff. You mean it's OK is better.
In terms of like this is a story about a thing with like themes and, you know, a point getting across. Angelic Layer is much more like like written like that. Which one do I prefer? You do like Mecca and they are tiny little robots, though. They are tiny little robots. They do have an entire arc about how fun character designs, capitalism is bad. And you have to fund your groundbreaking research through a dull game. You have to make up what it is. But also the dull game show bit.
So that is a negative. Also, the dull game exists for you to self actual actualize as a girl and overcome the societal pressures that are put upon you. But Kimi Nitsunoke does have. Kazekai getting horny and being sad about it. And Kendo punches a guy and then confirms that he did it because he was a jealous loser. A jealous raging guy. Yeah, which is why was jealousy always like? Where does we think the show lands on what it thinks about jealousy?
Because it kind of always frames it as like an understandable kind of good. Yeah, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Like it doesn't seem healthy to be like I'm just jealous guy. You're going to deal with it. Like I want to hide you away from everyone else, which is like what? Uh, domestic issues where they like isolate you from your support system. And like, oh, yikes. So yeah, love.
I mean, I think for Shoujo, when you're a preteen girl, reading this and you have like zero romance experience, you're like, oh, he's just so into me that he like doesn't want to share me with anyone else. Is like a romantic thought. But as a girl, it's much more concerning. Um, it would be an issue. But also, saw a code doesn't have that much of a backbone. So I don't know if she would have an issue with it. Yeah. No, I think you're totally right about that.
Like if the concern that your audience has is that like you're you're worried that you'd find somebody they're not as into you as you are into them. Or like, you know, you're just like unsure how much you mean to them. The jealousy would be seen as like a good thing, right? Because it's like a reform and affirmation of like, oh, this person is extremely into me, but as in terms of like functioning as a human being in the world, that's not great to be jealous of other people.
Like that is a usually like a pretty bad emotion, like a pretty negative one. We send people. Well, that's not a deadly sign. And even like a good Christian boy. Yeah. Yeah. And like the. She was I lost my train of thought. Sorry. From magic. The yeah, holding like cherishing somebody, all that stuff, like putting on a pedestal, like you kind of want to date somebody who thinks of you as an equal, right? Yeah, partnership. Anything as opposed to.
Yeah. Yeah. Cherish, protect and care for someone lovingly does not mean not engaging with them as a person. Yeah. Also, like when you're jealous of somebody, you're kind of like not as trusting. Yeah. Your partner, perhaps. Yes. There's a lot of stuff going into it. And like, yeah, that's like that's like much more adult stuff. Like I imagine like the college years is where they would go through that stuff. But they didn't go through that stuff in the series.
So I don't know, maybe I'll put a jug where higher by like a little bit. You know what I mean? These were both good. These are both really good shows. I haven't had nothing but knockout shows so far. Yes. The next one would be a bit more carefree, but also something to see elements for the first time for the podcast. And now I'm already thinking of what I think our next series will be after that, which is like a super random, I think not as well known one.
So we'll have done a not show Joe and then a clap, like top tier, at least at the beginning show Joe and then a more typical show Joe. And then one that I think is very interesting because it kind of covers like a long period of time within this one relationship rather than just high school or something. So that'll be like a fun different thing. But who knows, maybe I'll change my mind. But yeah, so that is that. Do we want to get into our recommendations? I've got mine at the ready.
Sure. OK, we'll go for it then. It is a show Joe called Hot Gimmick by a manga artist that I really like Miki Ihara. And it's like probably maybe the first manga that I bought with that technically has some smart elements to it. I did not see coming. OK, listen to. So I have the first omnibus and you know how they have like little press quotes from authors of things that are relevant on a book. This one is from Jason Thompson, who's the author of a book called Manga, the Complete Guide.
But the quote is Hot Gimmick is an incredible page turner. The manga equivalent of a bodice ripper novel. So weird. And then it also at the bottom says Miki Ihara turned the manga world upside down with her salacious, outrageous and funny hit series. If you think being a teenager in America is hard, wait until you read Hot Gimmick. These Tokyo boys and girls are really messed up. Just like, what is this? What is this? What they're trying to sell this as? What they're trying to sell this as?
And then the actual like. Synopsis is unlike most show Joe, Hot Gimmick isn't all sweet boys and rose petals. It's much more real and complex and sometimes even chilling. The artwork is top notch. The drama is high tension and I couldn't help but keep on rooting for the hapless heroine, Hatsumi, as she deals with real life problems, like family ties, blackmail and awkward first kisses and a very disapproving landlady. What's not to love? That's from a writer artist's Sabrina, the teenage witch.
Oh, cool. Yeah, it's a very distinct art style. It's like very clean. Like it's this is older now, but like it feels so crisp. The art style compared to a lot of manga. There may be a bit more like it's very clean, digital looking kind of. But we've got like, yeah, it does kind of handle some more mature subjects than a lot of show Joe. And like, it's kind of the ones where you think there's like a clear option. You know, because typically it's like, OK, here's the male lead.
Obviously, no matter what rival shows up, she's going to end up with him. But like, it's not so clear cut in this one. And yeah, there's some hot scenes too. So what's not to love is rights. And I really like this author. So many I'll recommend some of her other series, although none of her stuff has ever been made into an anime, which is interesting. So I feel like she's a pretty successful manga. And yeah, so that's hot gimmick. That is my suggestion this week. How about you, Joe?
I'm going to recommend the second book of the Earth Sea, which is called The Tombs of Ottawa, which is a book by Ursula. Kayla Quinn, famous author. This was written in 1971. 1971 is the publication day. Is the author of female? Yes, Ursula. Interesting. Yeah, famous sci-fi fantasy author. She wrote Left Hand of Darkness, which I haven't read. The Earth Sea books, which is like the famous series kind of thing.
Lots of like critical, a critical, critical accolades, etc. Anyway, this book is the second book in Earth Sea. The first one follows the wizard who becomes an awesome wizard named Ged. You know, we love we love wizards. Extremely wizard happy. He becomes a wizard. And that's cool. The second book is really interesting because it follows a girl named Tenar, I guess I could say that, or Tenar.
And she is inducted into this church because she is like the reincarnation of the first priestess of a. The religious organization that worships the or like that. She worships the nameless ones. And there are other priestess that worship other stuff there, but she's named of the head priestess of or is the reincarnation of a priestess of this order, and thus she is in charge. And she is basically in charge of this giant tomb. That is all entirely dark.
Where the nameless ones oppose supposedly live, right? And so she grows up and is in charge of this tomb, which apparently houses some treasures that, you know, some some people from the West of here have come to steal in the past, not recently, though. And some of them, you know, might be wizards and then a wizard shows up and it's Gad from the first book.
And, you know, she gets to interact with him and figure out if she wants to stay in this order, or if she wants to align with Gad and do some other stuff instead. So it's very interesting. It's a really short book, right? So it's, you know, it's like 150 pages or something. But the thing that's interesting about it is the positioning of the main character, like the first book, because it's a book that's very much like a boy becomes a wizard book.
You know, we all know the story of a boy becoming a wizard. Learning how to get power and all this stuff. And this one, it's much more like Tanar has to brush up against the societal expectations for her.
I mean, this is much more about, and, you know, Gwyn has talked about how this is a book about gender and power and kind of like what types of power women are afforded in society and what are the expectations on how they can use that versus what are the powers that like men are afforded, you know, can actually make things happen where women kind of get a little bit more structural power over things at certain times, but don't have a lot of direct actual power to do things.
So Tanar is constantly put in positions where she wants to do things, but she can't find a good way to like sell it to other people. So she's unable to do it, even though she is nominally the person in charge. There's a lot of interesting stuff going with that. There's some stuff about faith and belief that's pretty interesting as, you know, her belief in the named, the unnamed ones is challenged in certain ways. It's like a really interesting book.
I thought about it a lot in terms of, you know, the. The societal position of women in it and what kind of power they have and don't. And then also like the ideas of what having a faith, what kind of purpose it serves. What it feels like to be in a structure where you're both like afforded. I mean, she was both the head priestess. So she gets to order some people around, but she also is, I mean, you can't leave, right? So she is caught up also a prisoner in that position as well.
So it's very interesting. It's like a fun short read. I really enjoyed it. It's cool. The tunes of Adelon. Also, there's just some cool fantasy shit going on. There's a sophisticated in your recommendations. Oh, part of this is because like this is also a book that Sheld by Jean Rae Redd. And so they talked about it for like three hours. So it's also like, oh, yeah, this stuff is going on. Cool. But also the text straight up says it. So because like the twins about that.
Sweet. Well, do you want to tell everyone how now that we have finished our second series, they should reward us with some reviews? We did it. We finished a series, a second series. It's there. It's in it's on the books forever. That means if you have somebody who you want to recommend this show to, you're like, hey, here's a companion listen along that you can listen along with as a companion.
You can do that because we're here and you should do that because word of mouth is the best way of getting new listeners. And also if you if we talked about something and you're like, I have ideas about that, you can talk to your friends about that because you're like, hey, listen to this podcast. Let me know if you agree. And then you can spawn your own fun conversations. I've done that a lot. It's a great way to have conversations with people about stuff that you care about.
And also if you want to reach out to us, you can by emailing us at showjoepod at gmail.com and ask us directly what we think about your thoughts about the things that we say or the things that just happened in the show we just watched or any of the shows we just watched. Please do so. And Redis Five Stars. If you don't have people to recommend this to and also you just love interacting with your mobile device or whatever you're listening to is on Redis Five Stars. We always can use more ratings.
It's very good and useful because we're an entire world is run by algorithms now for better or worse. It's worse. So please Redis Five Stars and leave the comments. And leave comments for the algorithm. They like those. Talk about how much you like listening with your ears. Yeah. Please do that. Help us out. And we'll leave it on the pod. If it's Five Stars. If you leave a comment in Apple Podcasts, I'll read it out. Or on Spotify, which now has comments.
Oh, OK. Well, Spotify jumped on the bandwagon and has comments now. So yeah. Well, it can be per episode comments. Whereas I don't know if that's the case in Apple Podcasts where you can leave like a written review, but this is just like you can leave a comment on your thoughts of the episode and I'll read them. And I'm not on that note. We are excited to begin another series. Let me send a kiss with all of you. And we'll see you next week on Show Joe. Yay. Remember. Remember. If you are.
It's not. It's fine. You can be hard. It's fine. It's fine. Listen, it's not a bad thing. I know I said this one already, but like again, you don't. If somebody congratulates you on not doing anything intimate with your girlfriend for six months, do not treat that like a compliment. Treat that as if they are insulting you because you probably should have done something intimate with your girlfriend after six months. I mean, come on. She's right there.
And if you are the girlfriend who hasn't had anything done intimate. Who hasn't also been intimate in six months and you want to maybe do something more than hint at it, maybe be like, hey, we should make out. Hey, have you thought about taking me to make out point? You want to go to make out point with me and just, you know, who anything could happen there? Who knows? It's fine. You can be forward with your sexuality. It's okay. You're dating this person. Word. Do that.
Yeah. And if you don't want to do that, you should say that out loud instead of just not doing it instead of ignoring them for six months. Yeah, that's all. If you don't like making out, just tell them you don't like making out. Don't be like, pretend like you hate them. Yeah, it's not going to do you any favors. Yeah. Use your words. Wait. Well, we've ended on that note before with this series in particular. What else is enough? What's a new thing? What's a new thing?
Sometimes you think your daughter 30 in the morning. Don't just keep your bro on the phone talking about how great your girlfriend is for hours when it's when you should be asleep. It's not worth it. You can tell them later. It's fine. All right. Bye. Bye. Abrupt farewell. Until until next time. Yes. Thanks for listening.
