¶ Intro + Catch Up
Welcome back to Show Joe, lovely listeners. It's your girl Sarah and your boy Joe. And we're here to talk some more about Shia Furue and Show Joe, the genre. But first let's get caught up. And so what you've been doing lately, Joe, what you've got friends giving left and right. Yes, I went to one of my two friends' giveings, I made too much food and now I basically have all of it.
Nice, nice. Not only did I make a lot of food, I brought I made a banana pudding and somebody else also made a banana. So I just have so much. So who else makes that? Who's was better? I didn't I only mine. I didn't eat his. I also didn't write his down on the little sheet I signed up for. So I feel like I've highlighted. Could he? I feel your thunder with the pudding. Yeah. So really, it was a harrowing harrowing time. OK, just just all across the board.
Well, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I know it was it was very, it was very rough. I have another friend's giving next week and this upcoming weekend, I hopefully goes better. Yeah, God forbid it happens again. And that would be like a night like truly the wrath of Joe. Yes. Let's see what else have I done. I did watch some anime. I watched the Studio Jiggly movie The Boy and the Heron finally. OK, what do you think? It was weird. It was weird.
It was the most weird out of all of them, even though I expect them to be weird, if that makes sense, because like where the story starts like the first hour is pretty much nowhere with the story ends in the last hour. So that was pretty odd. I also like I come away at the end being like, I'm not really sure why any of that happened or what we were doing here. Yeah, I feel like nice. I didn't like it that much with what the only one to one a bunch of or or what they went. They weren't in a way.
One best picture. OK, I don't think one something, but yeah, I think I want some big thing this year. But yeah, it's it's weird. It's hard to follow. Whatever the cute blobby thing, I feel like there's like blogs, right? Those were cute. Yeah, those little things. I don't know what they were called. I have no idea. Yeah, I have not felt compelled to go back and watch it again. Now, I have a big so I've watched all of them and I have ranked them all. Oh, OK, I look here.
I guess I could have I shown you my rankings? I've not a studio Ghibli specifically. Yeah, it's in the discord. I have this in a team now. This is my ranking. I put the boy in the hair and in the OK tier after Grave of the Fireflies. But OK, better than the. No, it's in the good tier. I'm sorry. The OK tier consists of Ponio. And up on Poppy Hill. I like Ponio more. And I like Ariety. OK, I see. Wait, OK. Oh, you put higher. Oh, I also don't like Parker Rosa, though. You got that up there.
Oh, but he flies. He's like a pick and flies an airplane. It's cool. No, we love the airplane flying pig. Oh, my gosh. Candle. You've got. We're looking at my tier list now. Yeah, sorry, I'm like surprisingly good. OK, surprisingly good. Yeah, so in the surprisingly good, these were ones that nobody ever talks about. But I thought it was good. What's for the heart is one of my favorites. I love. Yeah, it's surprisingly good.
Yeah. For a movie I'd never heard of before until I watched it and featuring very much the song Country Roads. Yes, I know that's where I first heard that song. So good. Yes, it is good. I feel like NASA because my favorite and Castles Sky is my sister's favorite. And it was fine. It's the first one I saw. So I feel like I have a partial to it. I was living in Castles.
Castles Sky literally just every RPG ever just does that every door knocker I see in a door just makes me think of that movie with the robot. All door knockers look like. Or no, Castles Sky, the robot guy. I feel like door knockers look like him. Yeah. Mm hmm. No, I see what you're saying with that. Yeah, maybe we should have a thing with some of these movies. Or maybe we'll watch some of these movies at some point. Yeah, happy to. We can we can watch Grey the Fireflies.
I'll stop my eyes out because I haven't seen it. I don't think you should start with that. I'm scared to watch it. I am scared. It's not scary. Well, it's here to have a sound of the. It is going to be sad. Yeah. After I finished reading the books, I need you to watch the Earthsea movie, which I think is the worst one on here. So. I am committed to watching the worst movie again. OK, man. That's good. Anyway, what have you been up to?
OK, well, I told you a little bit about this yesterday if I watched the first episode of Dan to Dan. Mm hmm. And was scandalized and used by it was so popular. Because it looks pretty. Did you see the opening? Everybody likes the opening. Opening is good. But the things that take place in the first episode alone are so on the feeling to me. And like some people said, I was only in that first episode. Why? Why would you put that in the first one? How many people are you turning away with that?
Why put it in there at all? Oh, I don't know. It's a weird. It's a weird choice. It's a lot. It's too much that I won't go into the specifics here on our lovely, clean, so-so podcast. We are not. We need to change the listing and the itunes or whatever. It's explicit because I do swear quite a bit. I haven't turned on, don't I? Oh, is it on? I'm pretty confident. I made sure to make sure people know that we are not. No, not for children. No, not for children.
No, no, no. Say no to the children here. That's right. And it's it's let's see. We're like recording a little early for our Thanksgiving coming up sometime. I think if anything else has come up since we last recorded, you can do you want to tell the people about your betrayal? My. Me. How you have betrayed me. Stop. I cannot believe it. Nothing. You pitched a segment of us recapping what we did in Baldur's Gate. And then after that episode, we never played it again.
And not only did we never play it again because you were playing Dragon Age, you have decided to play some other long online game instead of coming back and having fun with your pal Joe. What's going on? OK, first, I haven't done anything yet. So I get it. And I don't think I'm going to like the game, so it probably won't be for very long. And then also we're totally we're going to play Baldur's Gate. We are going to do it. Well, that segment will have my god. We are next year. Probably.
The stars just start fresh, maybe. Oh, man. Yeah. Well. We're playing a going to a convention together later this year, so I'm excited we're going to do it. Possibly. And that's right. And that should be fun. Oh, yeah. Other than that, I don't really have anything to say. So I did have it. I did enjoy watching these episodes and it's like two episodes. Now I'm going to be like, I wish we were covering three now, because it's so good. I don't want to get to the next part.
But you don't have to write the summaries. Yeah, that's that's right. Yes, I can wait. Oh, I saw the worst thing before recording. What? I saw a trailer for a live action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, the movie. Oh, I saw that today, too. Terrible. OK, well, I mean, everything looks like the animation just real life. Like, at least it's. This is what I say. Why make that? What is the point? You're just going to shot a shot, remake a movie that's not even 15 years old. What are you doing?
Is how to train your dragon Disney or no, it's a dream. Dreamworks. OK. It's going to say they're opening a park. So Universal Studios. They're trying to sell something. And that's one of the little like sections of it. So I think that's why they're doing this. Gotcha. Yeah. Solace and depressing, but they're doing it. Some people are. The amount of fan art I've seen for the main guy, I guess, because the in the in the movies, he gets older and then some people is like, oh, like, yeah,
hot. He looks now. And then like, there's a lot of fan art for older. Is it a Flynn? No. What's his name? It's Hiccup. Hiccup. OK, so wrong. But yeah, I don't know. I feel like there's definitely a lot of enthusiasm for that. Yeah. Like, I like the movies. I just don't think you need to do a live act. No, it's just the same thing again. Yeah. Mm hmm. That's my new character within the world. New cast, new story, maybe that could work. And you could do anything and you did the same thing again.
Yep. That's because every franchise is in an abysmal state. No franchise is doing well right now. Not a one. No. Can you think of any franchise that's like doing good? It's like. Got stuff coming out regularly that people are excited for and is like received well. Well, I think of things that I like, like, but I'm like, I don't know what the the world's feelings about them are. Like. Amp, Cretaceous, Chaos Theory, the Jurassic World animated series.
I think it's pretty good and that comes out very regularly. Like, it feels like it comes up so fast. That's good. But a lot of things like it takes forever for other things. Yeah. And then they throw up on another's like, like, I'm excited for the next season. House of Dragon. I'm going to wait so long for that. I should get back into books. Maybe there's like good books coming out regularly. But you could join one of my book clubs, one of my two book clubs. Responsibility commitment.
I don't know. I don't know. You are going to have to read that is part of the book clubs. You do have to read and you do have to read on time. That is like an important part. It is kind of the whole part, actually. They can't read ahead. You can read ahead. OK. You just can't fall behind. OK. OK. It depends. Do I get to pick a book at some point? Do we take turns picking? Yeah. I'll pick a story. Oh, man. OK. Well, we'll see. Maybe I'll end up joining a third book club here. So. Oh, dang.
You don't need any more. Oh, well, I have zero time to do anything. Yeah. Nightmare all the time. Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of which, you should get the show on the road.
¶ Ep Recaps
Yeah, I do. I just hope people to show up. Yes. To my apartment. We're about to have a bunch of guests on the podcast. Yeah. Yeah. All right. So let's jump into the show. But we'll start off with voice actors, because we have the voice of Chiaya is a Sommi Seto, who is the voice of Nabara and Jujutsu Kaisen. You watch that? I watched it. I watched it in dub. So I don't know. OK. She is also the voice of Mina Oshiro and Kaiju number eight. That's the that's his childhood friend. The one that. OK.
I was a cool tiger. Yeah. Yeah. I don't understand yet why there's a tiger, but I got to. I don't think they ever explain it. She just has a tiger. OK. They probably explained it at some point. I just did pay attention, but you have to all all I know is that she just has a tiger. Let's see. She is the character Eve in Stellar Blade, which is a video game. And I think that's the main character. Never heard of it. I know it came out recently. People are talking about it because it's very horny.
Ah, right. It's everywhere. Everything. Yeah. It's the age of being horny because the future is dead. Reality. No one can ever dream. This is why Chainsaw Man is popular. None of you. None of us will ever achieve our dreams. And so everybody just has to fall back to being horny. I don't like it. It's the way it is. That's the new vibe. That's the this is the fault of the election, although it was like this before also. My theory is it has to do with the fact that we didn't do anything.
We're not doing anything about climate change, so everybody is thinking it's the end. Anyway, she also does the voice of Ralph Talia, the rat girl herself and Rising of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hero, the worst anime I've ever seen. I've heard of it. I have not watched it. It's terrible, though. It's bad. Yeah, she's like the main girl who is like a raccoon or something. Her name is Ralph Talia, so I just call her Rat Girl. OK. This show is wild. And by wild, I mean bad.
And also, she is the voice of Sabina Fartin in Mobile Suit Gundam, Witch for Mercury, the one with women in it. Oh, nice. We love women being an anime sometimes. We do love women. OK, so she's she's around. Yeah, very active. Those are all recent, like in the twenty to two thousand. Yeah, two thousands on and like doing big, like, you know, Nabara and. Well, I don't have much. I'm at and, yeah, Mina are both like very recent big shows.
So we'll probably be seeing more of her or hearing more of her. Anyway, Jair Furu, episode three is called From the Crystal White Snow. Please, we're still in the flashback. I cannot stress how much we were still in the flashback throughout this episode. We open on Young Chihaya, Arata and Tai Chi going to the Bucu City Katamachi Cultural Center to join the Shiranami Karuda Society's practice session. So there's like a Karuda club. So that meets their society. Yeah, these are like adults.
They burst in during practice and watch a bunch of adults and other older kids play Karuda. I have a note about the the outfits of these children. OK, Tai Chi is wearing like this Batman shirt. Dude. I have a blotting that a long sleeve Batman turtleneck and he has a jacket tied around his waist. And then he has a belt over the jacket tied around his waist. I did not notice that. You need to go look at it. Utility belt on top of it. It's incredible.
Interesting. Chi Hai has a short sleeved hoodie that says let's go on it. And then she has a gray long sleeve shirt under the short sleeve. Oh, yeah. And then Arata is the only normal boy who has a long sleeve shirt that just says world sports on it. He's the most normal. Anyway. Eventually play ends were introduced to Dr. Arata, who is like super passionate about Karada, Karuda, and is also like he's like the guy in charge mostly. And he's very happy to have new players.
We need to be made another guy who never shows up again. So I don't I really have to say his name. But his name is hero, who is less happy to have them here and is even less happy to learn that Chi Hai hasn't even learned all the poems like why'd she even come here? This is for serious players. Arata immediately challenges into a three on three team match against a hero and two unnamed people.
And we learn that the way this match works is that each team has 50 cards, like normal, but everybody's kind of like nominally in charge. It's like spread out in front of everybody. So anybody can swipe and do any of that stuff. So it's kind of just like a team game, which is going to be different from a different three on three game we're going to learn about later.
Chi Hai is surprised to learn that they're only supposed to that they're not only supposed to memorize the poems like before showing up, but also they get 15 minutes to memorize the positions of the cards for each game so you can be much faster at like swiping them. So they get their 15 minutes to prep and Arata tells them to hold a team meeting outside out in the hall.
Arata gives Chi Hai and Tai Chi cheat sheets with the cards that they're going to be responsible for watching and their corresponding beginning poems. Chi Hai gets all of the cards that have like a unique first word. So you can just like immediately know which card you're supposed to hit. And Tai Chi gets the ones where like the first few words are like split between like a couple of cards.
So he basically just has to guess Tai Chi thinks that this is ridiculous and complains that Arata should have just challenged them himself because this is going to be way too complicated for them. But Arata says he wants to do it as a team. The game starts and Arata is much better than everybody else. And Chi Hai and Tai Chi are basically doing nothing. Everybody at the club is impressed while Chi Hai gets frustrated that Arata keeps beating her to her own cards.
Yeah, they were thrown off by that for sure. Like what the hell man why are we even here? It's great for Arata to be like I want to do this as a team. And then immediately he's just doing it all by himself. Like yeah, well, if you're not doing it, I'm going to do it. Yeah, it's like I guess you yeah, sure. You want to do it as a team. Both Tai Chi and Chi Hai get their heads in the game and start contributing. Tai Chi guesses a card right.
So basically like what's happening with Tai Chi is that he has to guess one card and then Arata guesses the other card and they just they're just trying to go through both of them all the time. And Chi Hai quick draws a card before even the first syllable gets finished. So like they say the first half of the first syllable and she gets it, which is like. She's she's good at her thing is going to be quick draws. She's going to be real fast.
Arata realizes that she's faster than him with the unique syllable cards and starts to get competitive with her. Which is like he's not even really playing against opponents at this point. No, no. In the end, Chi Hai only gets one card while Arata gets like basically all of them. It turns out their opponents only got five cards and were completely destroyed. Dr. Herata asked them their names and if they're going to join the club. Arata introduces himself as Arata Wataya.
Murmur spread through the club and we learned that Arata has won the national championship for his grade level for the past five years and that his granddad was in a eternal master of the game and won like seven straight championships in the 80s. Cool. Cool grandpa. No entity. Yeah. Not the dad though. What happened with his dad? He's probably a huge disappointment to his grandpa. Dr. Herata asks Chi Hai and Tai Chi if they're going to join.
Chi Hai is worried because she hasn't memorized all of the cards. But Dr. Herata is very encouraging and gives her a stack that like take homes where she can memorize them. Tai Chi says that he has cram school, but he'll try to come to practice too. Dr. Herata tells him that there's a tournament in March for teams of three and that they should shoot for like participating in.
Arata points out that it's teams of three, but like it's three separate games and just two people from your team has to win. So either Chi Hai or Tai Chi needs to win their matches in order for them to like move past the first round and they all decide to go for it. So they're all they're all into erotic. All jazzed up. They're all jazzed up. I don't really understand what's the point of the team if it's like three individual versus three.
Well, it's like how at track meets, it's like technically there's individual awards, but like the school with the most. Like the Olympics, I guess, but card a version where it's like you're a group, but like performing individually. But like to be the best you need like. Yeah. What like team gymnastics stuff, right? Because it's like individual competition, but you're like scored as a team is kind of the only difference. Yeah. I guess that makes sense. For fun. Friendship. For fun. Friends.
Kids need to play together even though they're playing apart. Anyway, Chi Hai goes home. Her sister has a commercial audition tomorrow and recruits Chi Hai to help take her to help her take some fashion picks. Her mom comments that Chi Hai's dream is to see her sister succeed and she and Chi Hai takes the opportunity to announce that she has a new dream because she's really into Karuta now. I spell Karuta different every time in my notes.
Her mom thinks that's fine, but her sister still wants her to like worship her. We get a montage of the kids practicing at Karuta and Chi Hai memorizing the cards. We also get a scene of Arata welcoming his dad home and there's an abrupt cut away because something bad is about to happen. We get a scene of the three of them playing in the snow and they all decide to call each other by their first names and Chi Hai says that they should all play Karuta together forever.
Time passes and we learn some stuff. Like, Tai Chi got into a good middle school so he's going to the good middle school now. Chi Hai thinks that he isn't going to go because then he couldn't play Karuta together. But Tai Chi's like, that's ridiculous. Of course I'm going to go to the good school. Like, come on.
Chi Hai tells Arata that Tai Chi is going to go to some other school and Arata tells her that his granddad is sick in Uyuki so he's going to have to go back home or back there after graduation. So they're all splitting up. Chi Hai realizes that she won't be able to play Karuta with them forever and skips out on the tournament. Both Arata and Tai Chi blame themselves. We get a sad scene where Chi Hai tears up all of her notes on Karuta because she won't be able to play all by herself.
She could. Yeah, I mean Arata has found out a way to do it. She should just be shadow boxing all the time. Clearly she does, missing the fact that she's still playing it. She goes to return the Karuta cards to Dr. Arata and the two of them walk home. Dr. Arata comments that it's very impressive that Tai Chi got into a school, like got into a good school while also like doing Karata and cram school basically at the same time.
Like that's like a crazy amount of stuff for a elementary school kid to do. He also tells her about Arata's grandfather and how he's a Karuta legend. Then he tells her that they'd all be sad if she quit, including him. Because Dr. Arata is great. I love this guy. Yeah, he's very much a lot of gusto. That guy. Yeah, the scene is really cute because he keeps pointing up to this guy and being like, look a shooting star. And she's like, oh wait, I didn't see it. And he's like, ah, you missed it.
Yeah, we like Dr. Arata. He'll be around more shenanigans. Oh good. Tai Chi and Arata show up to the tournament. Arata is sick, but Tai Chi thinks that they'll probably still be fine because like, you know, even if he's sick, he's still probably better than everybody else here. Arata points out that their first round opponent was the runner up from last year. So it is going to be kind of tough. Chi Hai's mom gives her a package that Tai Chi and Arata dropped off from this morning.
Here's a t-shirt with the text team Chi Hai Fu Ru on it, which is the first half of the poem that has Chi Hai his name in it. She sees this and then runs out the door to go to the tournament. It seems like a custom shirt is a lot for your first tournament. Playing as a team, I guess. Really good money for that. I'm guessing Tai Chi. Oh, that's true. He's the cash cow, that one. He's the resourceful one. Yeah. See, Chi Hai arrives at the last possible second.
Chi Hai retells them that she's still mad at them for leaving her, but I guess they're all sad about it now. So they should just play the tournament. The game starts if we get a montage of them playing, but in the end only Arata won his match. Chi Hai and Tai Chi are both sad, but Arata's just glad that they all got to play together. I do have some note about the game, which is that they all got the Chi Hai Fu Ru card when that came up. Yeah. Fish and card.
Yeah. Time passes and graduation happens. Arata is busy packing when Chi Hai and Tai Chi burst in to play one last game with him. Arata is beating Chi Hai, but Chi Hai says she's going to win because she loves Karuta now. She reads out that Chi Hai Fu Ru card and they both go touch it. Technically Chi Hai gets it and Arata cries saying he's so happy he got to play Karuta with them, even though they'll probably never see each other again.
Chi Hai says that as long as they love Karuta, they'll meet again as we cut to credits. I cried too. I don't know why. I've seen the show before. I haven't cried during it before. Did you ever lose any childhood friends because they moved away or something? I'm the one. Well, not that I have any friends, but I was moving constantly. I was still in the area. I was in different schools, not region, but maybe my sister felt that way because she had friends.
I'm not like form attachments kind of gal. I feel like this happened to me, but I never knew they were moving. They just were gone. Damn, weren't that good of friends? I know. I guess in elementary school, it just happens. You don't really get explanations. You can't text each other. I feel like, hey, yeah, this episode is pretty good. Deep in the flashback still. Yeah. Yeah. This is the end of the flashback. We get back. We pop back to reality in the next episode, which is nice.
Yeah. The next episode. The context. Title is crazy, too. Yeah, I don't really get this. Title titles are all over the place. It's like decorative language, not clear on what it's referring to necessarily. Yeah. Do you have any more comments about the children arc, the flashback children story? Two of the characters will return. That hero guy. Okay. From the club. Yeah. And then the guy, the runner up for the thing. Oh, okay. He'll show up as well.
Yeah. So he, well, like, because he's kind of a big character design. Yeah. And they make a lot of fat jokes about him and I am not here for it. It was mostly Tai Chi because Tai Chi sucks. Yeah. So he still sucks. I mean, you know, he's a bratty kid. Yes. But hopefully that's, they don't keep that. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. I think the shirt was weird also because it was just like a temperature gauge. Everybody has weird shirts on this shirt.
When the shirts are that bizarre, if it's just like pulled straight from the longer or the animation team just ran the shirts. It's true. The shirts. Yeah. So, okay. Episode four is called a whirlwind of flower petals descents. And we're just saying a lot of words. It's the day of Arata's move and Chi Haya and Tai Chi come off to see him. They all declare this is still in the flashback, by the way.
They all declare that they'll come, they'll become the best car to players next time they see each other and we'll meet again soon. We transmission back to the present where teenage Chi Haya is sitting on the train as the OP plays. We pick back up from episode one. Tai Chi and Chi Haya exit the train. Chi Haya talks to Tai Chi about Arata and speculates whether or not she'll be able to see him at the upcoming tournament.
Tai Chi asks her what rank she is in Karate and she's only class B and Arata is certainly class A so it's unlikely they'd play against each other anytime soon. Tai Chi meets up with his girlfriend and they're about to head off together when Chi Haya declares that if she wins the tournament on Sunday and makes it to class A then he has to help her start a car or club at school. Tai Chi's like, what are you serious? Chi Haya just runs away before he can say anything.
Can't hear the rejection if you're not there. And his girlfriend is like, who's that girl? I would also be like, who the hell is this? Just coming out of the shadows and like declaring that you have to join a club. Chi Haya tells herself that she'll make Tai Chi pay for getting a girlfriend as she scrolls through her phone to find someone to vent to. She sees Arata's home number and quietly shuts the phone. She doesn't like that he got a girlfriend, huh?
Well, yeah, I think he's probably just teasing because he's the first one to do it. She's very much not in the mindset to be dating him yet. Or like, Tai Chi, he's such a little shit, how'd you get a girl like you kind of thing. We see her be like, oh, have you heard from Arata in a while, blah, blah, blah. But she's also clearly not like trying. She doesn't want to be the one to reach out to him. Yes, she feels very awkward about reaching out to Arata.
I guess they probably haven't seen each other at all. I guess they probably talked over the phone a bit at least to start when they all got separated. His Tai Chi school was like an hour commute. So that takes a lot of time. So that's why it was like he can't play anymore. Yeah, he was pretty far. It's interesting that she's like, oh, Tai Chi, have you talked to Arata, even though it felt like she was the glue holding them together? It would be kind of, I don't know.
I don't really think that they would do that. She does not seem aware of that so much, though. No, they're both just timing after her. I don't know if Arata necessarily is. He's like hard to read. It's also their children. So I don't, I mean, Tai Chi seemed to know it, but like at that point, how much is it that or just excitement to have a friend that likes to stuff you like? That's super obscure and nobody likes. Yeah. It's tournament day and Tai Chi heads to the Kuroda tournament.
I'm sorry, what? No, go ahead. Dr. Arata is there and is excited to see him. He figures that he came on to hear Chi Haya. They see her through the door of like the window they like looking, but she doesn't see them yet. Dr. Harada and Tai Chi catch up. Dr. Harada tells him that he should start coming to practices again if he wants to make master like he used to say. And Tai Chi says that he used to play cards at middle school, but plateaued basically.
And he felt like he was just like wasting his youth playing this game and not getting any better at it, which is like the most real thing anybody has ever said. As a man who pursues many hobbies. Yes. Listen, sometimes you plateau and you're like, I could keep doing this, but like, you know, I'm not getting any younger. Like am I really going to keep doing my time doing this? I totally get this. This is the most I've empathized with Tai Chi this whole time.
He's also got the pressure of his family. Oh yeah. Also, he's like the nightmare. Yeah. Yes. The tournament starts and she hired and starts like taking cards while yelling. Like she's striking something. Tai Chi is like, what's with that? And Dr. Harada tells him it's a strategy to psych out her opponents.
Then he tells Tai Chi that she chose to do track because the reaction time of the starter pistol reminds her of Karate and that basically everything she's been doing has been to improve at it, which is crazy. Yeah, that's why you're not proving Tai Chi. You just haven't. You just have a joint moment. Yeah. You just haven't made your entire life around this thing. Yes, it's healthy to do that. It's so good.
I have a question, Joe. Yeah. What is, do you know what the word for eyebrows is in Japanese? I can look it up. Okay. Cause Tai Chi's last name is like Mashima. And I feel like when he kept calling him eyebrows, the sub tiles that eyebrows that sounded very similar to the name. It looks like Mayu. Okay. Nope. Never mind. All right. Cool. Never mind. He just called them eyebrows. Big eyebrows. Tai Chi is pretty as an adult. He's a pretty guy. No, don't agree.
No, it's fine. I mean, you know, it's fine. It's fine. Everybody's kind of pretty in this show. So it's hard for me to differentiate. Yeah. Yeah. Like I don't know who's hot. Like I can, I can look and see him like, oh, this person's pretty, but I don't know if like other people in the world consider them. I don't see it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which is like always kind of a tough thing when everybody's attractive.
Yeah. This is a big problem with video games all the time where I can't tell who's like noticeably hot and who is just like, everybody's hot because it's a video game. Just make people hot if you want to. Well, basically everyone's pretty unless it's like the characters that are intentionally drawn differently. Like go from teaming me to doke. Like, if it's not an intentional difference, then it's hard to tell who's perceived to be. Yeah. Everybody has to be hot because we hate ugly people.
Let's see. She wins her match and apologizes to her opponent for yelling. Then she flashes an okay sign and Dr. Herata says, tight you on a mission to go buy some chocolate because that's the chocolate sign, I guess. But the regular convenience store is closed. So tight she has to go to like a luxury chocolate store, which is like super expensive, which is why I bought the shirts earlier because he's got money. Yes. Where I point out something.
The convenience store he goes to is supposed to be 711, but the eight, like eight is the logo, but with like the same colors as 711. Oh, it's funny. And then yeah, I guess basically you had to go to the dive shop. Which is more expensive than convenience store. Yeah, this is like the first. Is this one of like the first fake brands we've seen? It sounds like a thing that shows up a lot in anime when you do like instead of McDonald's, it's like Wicked Donald's or something like stupid.
I mean, I'm assuming most people watching it wouldn't even notice that. I just I saw it, but I don't. There's like a brand of something specific in this anime. That won't be pointed out for a bit, but I can't think of like any real life things are not cost. I just like this is the first time I show up in any of the shows we've watched because it's like a pretty common thing and like some other stuff. It's like pretty funny. Yeah, so that's that's fun to point out.
Anyway, she eats like eight chocolates and then falls asleep with her eyes open. Dr. Herata explains that you need to play like seven Karuna games in a tournament, which is like pretty exhausting because they like take a lot of focus. She gives the sleeping Chiaya his jacket and she wakes up and calls him kind. In like the most you're leading this boy on. He should know better.
Then she apologizes for forcing him to make a club with her, but reassures him that she will be winning this tournament. So he will be making this club with her. Sorry, not sorry. Yeah, Chiaya has another game against a formidable opponent. Her opponent is good though and has very precise moments for movements. He also apparently has done his homework and knows that she the Chiaya food record is her favorite. He does apparently have a weakness for women though.
So like he gets embarrassed when she looks at him. I thought this was going to be used as a tactic. It was not as a tactic. Yeah, no, yeah, let's say she was unaware that it was even a thing. Yeah, yeah, don't don't be your growing ass dude. He's probably mid 20s at least and she's. Oh, well, some anime has taught me that that's. There's no prize. Soon as she gets out of high school, it'll be. Check out her coverage of skip beat for more information about that.
Okay, she scores a card on her opponent's side, which lets her give a card from her side to her opponent. So that's kind of how that works. I mean, she gives him the Chiaya food record and Dr. Hurrell and Dr. Hurrata tells Tai Chi that it's her best card so that she's like for sure going to get it because you want to get a. You'll get a there's you're trying to take points away from them. But then her opponent scores a card on her side and passes it back to her.
They go back and forth with the card several times and all the spectators find this very funny. That being said, the game is very neck and neck. It seems like Chiaya is having a pretty good time though. It's down to the wire. The final card is read and it's the Chiaya food record. Both Chiaya and her opponent go for it, but Chiaya swipes just a moment faster and wins. Chiaya sees Tai Chi and Dr. Hurrata.
She runs to the window that they're watching through because they're like watching through a window at like ground level. So a very weird layout. And she hugs Tai Chi through the window saying they need to play together and become strong. Now see, I feel like any of the nearby spectators would be like, oh, like that cute couple. This is what I'm saying. She leads them on so hard. I like instantly feel bad for him again. We got a lot of that. Just girls unaware.
Boys having to like try to figure it out on their own because the girls not active participant in the feelings department. Let me tell you, women do not usually throw themselves at you like this. This is not the most common occurrence, although I've never been a hot anime boy. So maybe it is for them. Then she went. Yeah. Nope. Nope. Then she curls to the window and says that she needs to call a rata to tell him that she made class a. We cut to her artist landline as it rings.
A man answers the phone and she hire tells him that it's Chi Haya and Tai Chi and that she made class a and also Tai Chi is a girlfriend and also Dr. Heron is here to run it does not say anything and she high asks how strong he is. Car now. Our honor does not answer this and instead tells her to stop calling. And also stop talking about car. He says he stopped playing and hangs up. She hire things about all the times he said his dream was to become a master.
She stares in disbelief at her phone as it cuts to credits. Rude. I think I put in I made a note like tables of turn now a Rata's the pumpkin type. She's the nice one. Yes. Although I think she's still a punk because he being the superdispositor of his girlfriend. Yes, but at least he's a bit kind or Chi Haya. He's a kid that compares dude. He had some Rata has been through it. He's got the thousand yard stare. It's over. His face. That's like a real or save it. Really bad happen.
He can't see so you can't play card anymore because he doesn't have. Oh yeah. I think that's what happened. Maybe I mean I've definitely seen art of him so I don't think that happened. I mean we've seen the opening credits. Yeah, he's also been the opening credits. I don't think that happened. But you know, I don't know. Maybe. Maybe he's cherry plants or anything. That's how season that's this is that's the story of season one. Oh man. Yeah, so we're back to present day.
Long ass flashback arc done. I only took like three and a half episodes. Only three and a half. We finally made it back to the present where the roles are not quite reversed, but are a bit reversed. They're kind of flipped. Yeah. Rata isn't there. So I don't know how we're going to see him. I guess we're not going to see him for a while. I don't know. It's like, oh, he lives so far. It's probably like a two hour ride on a train. That's not that bad. You could go see him.
Like once a month or something. Is the same. I don't know. Maybe the pricing is insane or something. I'm full of trance. Yeah. So that's the situation. She hire class a real good at cards. The boys. Not good anymore. I just played since middle school and a Rata has sworn off of it. I think it's like, oh, I'm going to be the queen and they're going to be like chumps. Here's a question. Can you start a club with two people at school? Are you going to need more than two people? No, it's right.
That's like a thing like, oh man, we need at least three people in our club. And that's like, mm-hmm. Yeah. So yeah. There's going to be that for sure. And they're at the same high school now. So it'll be new people going through. Yeah. We'll have to, we'll have to find some other. Karuta fanatics. Or try to convince them. I'm interested. Yeah. To do it. Yeah. I mean, you know, she hire and. Hi, she both hot anime character. Are both cute.
Cute. Yeah. I'm sure they could convince some SAP to join. And then they'll immediately get extremely weirded out by how into it. She hi is. Yes. Well, Tai Chi has to pretend like he's not into it, but then immediately we'll just get into it again. That's my, that's my prediction. Okay. Yeah. Well, I mean, he liked it enough that even on his own, he at least a middle school. So just immediately dropped it. That's true. You think his girlfriend will join? That would be fun. I don't.
I'm like, how long will he have this girlfriend? I feel like it's not for much longer. I'm guessing because we didn't learn her name, not very long. No, probably not. And how dismissive of her he was. It's too bad. Too bad. We really liked her. We need more women in the show. Whatever her name was. I think she has sisters doing. Famous model. Being a bitch still. Wow. Oh man. Okay. Her sister's son. She was just bratty. I mean, she was a team. She's a team model.
That's like the most bratty you forget, you know. Yeah. I guess we haven't seen her reference. She'll reappear. Well, right. A lot of people stay early. Maybe women will slip with their family until they get married. So she's still at home. So we will. Yeah. That being said, I am interested in like the difference between because like Tige's whole thing, this episode is like, yeah, I used to play, but then I plateaued. And so I kind of stopped. Which like. Cause he does other things. Right.
Like, Well, he's also comparing himself to Arada who he thinks is really good. So it's like in himself out. Cause it's not like he's even tried to play against him. It's like all or nothing. Like if you're not first, your last kind of thing. So it makes sense to be like, yeah, I'm just done with this thing. Cause like clearly I'm not going to be the best at it. So why bother? Which I get like, I am not a competitive person.
Like I competition is a turnoff for me in terms of like, I just don't, I suddenly not care about this thing as soon as everybody gets really competitive about it. Um, kind of for the same reasons. Cause I'm like, well, if everyone's going to be super into it, like we're not going to, it's probably not going to be that great of a game. So might as well just duck out before I have to deal with that. Hmm. Hurt feelings that we're not winning and.
Yeah, or like, I feel like I throw, but then they'll get mad at me if I throw. No way. Okay. I'm competitive. So. Are you? I love if I'm totally disinterested in the thing. Um, I don't like have that high of expectations of how I'll perform, but like I'm still in it. Yeah. Um, so are you even just watching like. My brother, my. I will get pumpkin watching it like, oh, who's going to win? And. Uh, so. I don't know. Yeah. I used to be like.
Always scaring or challenging my sister to race and she was, so she grew up being the one who never won anything. I, and I would just wow. I was older. So I had an advantage. Yeah. Hey, that just made me competitive because I, I got to be better than someone had a lot of stuff. Um, okay. So you're not so competitive. You just like. You just enjoy beating somebody at stout. I'm devastated if I don't win. I don't know. It's fine. It's fun to be competitive. I don't like extreme emotion.
So if someone like. It's really angry if they don't win the bath like. I hate that. Um, Yeah. Or if they're sore loser, but. It's a friendly. Competition is fun. Um, yeah. Yeah. But that's. Because she hired this whole thing. It's like, what if I made my entire life about this? Yeah. If it's the only thing you're doing, you know, you've got to be good at it. Justified that it came your entire life. Do it. Yeah. Well, it's just interesting because like she's doing that.
And it almost seems like cause she wants to reconnect with. Tai Chi. Narada. I mean, I don't know if she hasn't said that, but that's kind of like what the whole flashback set up. Right. But like. Did she not make any friends in middle school? I shouldn't like any of those people. Like she's just. Well, they didn't like hard. So they're just throw away characters. Her. I guess that was it. Yeah. Yeah. I can't tell if this is like a supposed to be a thing about her.
Or if it's like a thing about her. I guess it could be both. Yeah. So are you more excited for like. The game and the competitions. Or like the character. I'm more, I'm more excited for the character development. Okay. I'm like, oh, we're about to have a cool. Matt. I have not fallen in love with the game. Particularly. Well, we haven't really seen it. Be super cool yet. We haven't seen it. It's entirety. We're like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm not cool yet. We haven't seen it. It's entirety.
We're like picking up small things with the episode. Like we find out there's classes and that you can. You move up by winning. Tournament. Uh-huh. Is it going to get like really technical? Like are we going to be learning like specific strategies and stuff? Uh. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if I can follow it, you can. Everyone can follow it. Like nothing. Whenever my head. Uh-huh. I'm not going to be a great teacher for that. But I guess if you're not as interested in that part, then maybe you won't.
But we'll see. We'll see. Um, but. Our. Time frame.
¶ Recommendations
Before. Mr. popular here has friends coming over. You got to move on. Yes. Uh, we'll do recommendations of which I'm totally. Prepared. Did you have any. Thank sure. And I think you're going to love it. Oh God. Okay. So I'm recommending to you. Um, Mobile suit Gundam, the witch from mercury, the one that I mentioned earlier with the girl in it. Hey, good news. It's a, it's a, it's its own timeline. You don't need to know anything else about Gundam.
Okay. You don't need to know anything about before. You don't even really even know what a Gundam is. Um, It's a robot thing. It's a robot. That's good. Uh, so this is a story. Um, let me, let me, let me, let me see if I can find a good synopsis of what's going on here. Uh, a compassionate girl enrolls herself in the. I've, man, I can't say this. Astakasia school of technology in planet Mercury that is run by the. Benerate group that creates robotic mobile suits.
The first episode of this is just revolutionary girl, Utena, but it's Gundam. Okay. Well, I haven't seen that either. I know we're going to watch that eventually. Uh, but it's essentially about this girl named Sletta. She is like new. Um, didn't grow up around a lot of other kids. So she is going to school for the first time and she's very nervous and she has a big list of things she wants to accomplish. Uh, You know, at her time at school. And so she interfaces with some of the other students.
Um, specifically a rich girl named, uh, how do I say this? Hold on. No, I can't find the character's name. Anyways. Uh, me or me or Renee, Remburn Rembrandt who's trying to escape. She's trying to leave. Um, and they end up getting together. Um, through a series of. Incidents where sort of thinks she is like in danger, but she's actually just trying to escape as she ends up saving her. Um, there is a weird. So Mirion a is the like air of a company that her father owns.
Um, and the deal that her dad has made is that whoever is the best Gundam dualist gets to be, her husband. And so Sleida accidentally gets challenged to a dual with the person who is the current champion. And, um, she wins that dual becoming the husband to be or like the, the fiance. Oh, it is a series of things that happens in the fallout of that and other things going on in this universe. There is some politics going on in the future.
There is some stuff with Sleida's mom who's a little sketchy. Um, there's a cool ass Gundam that she rides around in. Uh, it's a pretty fun time. I think this is a, like a nice way to get into her. So watch, say you watch the Gundam thing in a way that I think you'll like. It stars a. Woman as the main character, which is, I think the first Gundam that has done that. Um, it's a lot of like hanging around at school for a while.
Um, it's a lot of like hanging around at school for like the first season. Um, there are cool mech fights, but like it's pretty character driven. So it's not just like spectacle the whole time. I think you might like that. Maybe. Okay. Um, I'm trying to think cause in the past I've like, back when we had digital or physical copies of things, it felt easier to recommend. It's just like here, try this.
I think I introduced you to like the persona series and that, uh, like shown a part thing on the PSP. Uh, and Catherine, and you like those. And then I tried, uh, which spring are, and I feel like that one's not hitting it for you as much. So. No, I'm still playing it. It's still less time. Yeah. If it's not like compelling you to like one is like, oh, like I just lost. Um, okay. I am going to recommend to you Joe again called forgotten and, um, I have on the switch.
I don't play too much of it, but it is something like it's really good and like gorgeous. Uh, so the description is step into a hand animated realm of wonder in which everyday objects take on a life of their own. Cover the forgotlings mysteries and harness magic. And then you can play the game. And then you can play the game. And then you can play the game. And then you can play the game. And then you can play the game. And then your teammates who. الص 형 Кranadhา.
I have eight bubba si rotary entertainer viewers Live and up there known as Lisa textile. So they use hermachine, have surgery. And then do. Everything's five. Yeah. That's cute though. So it's a nine and nine. I have fun with this Mario. Fumbling mysteries. 峻 is magical. Forces and Mark. Castle church turned home. more fake stuff. And then you're like this human chick living there for some reason. And like, you don't really know why you're the only person there. But like, you kind
of like are a helper and kind of maintain things and keep an eye on things. And, you know, you're kind of like trying to figure out where you came from and stuff like that. It's kind of a platformer gameplay wise. It's like really pretty. I like the female protagonist. Apparently there's a ruler and ruthless rebellion. So maybe it gets deeper than I realized. I haven't finished it. Okay, okay. But I think he was like it. And I really
mean to get back to it. But like, you know, very like a lot of detail and like hard work put into this. And yeah, and there's like dialogue and choices and stuff. I don't know what the impact of the choices actually are on the plot of the game. But it seems like a critical darling. Like I just randomly found this on the Nintendo shop. I never would have heard of it otherwise. But it's quite good. And at least looking at Steam, this is the
only game by this developer for online games. I'm not sure. But forgotten. And that was cute. Yeah. So yeah, we'll see if either of us actually checked out. There's a recommendation. But yeah, feel free to try to check about yourselves listeners and something else that

They also couldn't possibly be hung at like, yeah. They're like two feet from the ground. I know, but like you're like leaning
over a like a little banister. I could like cut you or something if it's like sharp. Maybe you ate a bunch of chocolate and the pressure of leaning over is gonna make you vomit the chocolate up on your friend. I feel like there's something better to eat than chocolate. Yeah, you know, I mean, she's 15 so nothing is real for her, but like an old person could not do that. Do you think Dr. Harada, who's a doctor would be like suggesting something
better as a thing to eat? But he's a cool doctor. You have to understand he is cool. They were characters so far. I do like him quite a bit. Yeah, he's pretty good. Best adults we've had in a while. Yes, for sure. Like actively engage and interested in participating with the children are doing. Yes, which is unprecedented. Good up. Everyone just become a doctor. That's my recommendation. Just just become a doctor in some way. I mean, Joe,
here's the doctor. That's right. I'm just like Dr. Harada, except I don't do medical anything. You're better at Carter than me. So that's the secret. That means you're going to be a doctor. We'll see when we hang out next in person who is better now. I'm sure you've been studying and I'm not because I don't have a game. Yeah, totally. For sure. Okay, bye bye.
