Dr. Sotheara Chhim was only 7 years old when the Khmer Rouge rose to power in Cambodia, and he was sent to work in a labor camp. He would later become among the first Cambodian psychiatrists to graduate after the Khmer Rouge, dedicating his practice to healing his countrymen’s broken courage or baksbat. In this episode, Dr. Chhim shares how his organization promotes mental health in Cambodia by conducting “testimonial therapy,” engaging with religious leaders, and providing gender-based violence counseling for women.
