Lists like thirty under thirty or forty under forty continue to highlight people who stayed true to just one career path and now and I think back to what I had accomplished at that point. I was just getting started and I really didn't know what was next for me. I started my career in
DC politics. I worked as the vice president of campaigns for the Center for American Progress, the largest progressive think tank in DC. Let's get some perspective on this now from Emily Tish Sussman joining us now to discuss democratic strategist Emily titch Sussman. Emily titch Sessmen isn't democratic strategist. I oversaw issue campaigns to impact policies on national and
state levels. I worked on important political issues affecting families, women and helping to shape leading principles for the inaugural Women's March. I felt like I was the top of my career. But then I had my first kid. Five days after Hillary Clinton took the nomination. I was on CNN the same day I went into labor. My son was born, and then Donald Trump became the president and my job changed. Then, after having my second child, eighteen months into the Trump presidency, I began to realize how
unsustainable my job had become. I couldn't be the employee or the boss that I needed and wanted to be, so I decided to step away. In twenty eighteen, I launched my podcast, Your Political Playlist, Welcome Leader Abrams. I appreciate such an illustrious introduction. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Lebrant, Governor Whitmer, Secretary Hillary Clinton, thank you so much. Secretary,
thank you, Emily. And despite these new and exciting opportunities, I felt like I had to prove to others and frankly, to myself, that this new journey was one of success. After having my third child, spending a year in lockdown with my family, and another tough and exhausting election, I began to find solace in the stories of women who had made these big career decisions and then found success
and happiness and their change. Whether it was going through a life changing event, taking care of a parent, having kids, going through a divorce, whatever the thing may be, I found myself wanting to celebrate those who dared to change their career to pivot. We all make career decisions based on important personal factors, so isn't it about time that
we start acknowledging it. So I hope you'll join us as I sit down with women who forge their own path after pivoting out of one career and into another and found success. We're going to examine how their personal stories played a role in their professional journey and what exactly brought them to success. This is She Pivots the podcast,
and I'm your host, Emily Tish Sussman. She Pivots marks the first podcast partnership from Marie Player, and we're so excited to make space to tell you the stories of these dynamic women.
