Alexandra Zagbayou’s life changed forever the summer she started middle school. A beautiful childhood filled with stability and joy took a turn when her family had to flee the Ivory Coast because of growing civil unrest. They landed in North Carolina for what was supposed to be a few months. She’s lived here ever since.Twenty years later, Alexandra has made a life and a name for herself as an activist and organizer in Durham, North Carolina. We spoke with her about new beginnings, coming to terms with her past, and committing to a life of honorable work. Meet Alexandra.
