Hello there, Modern Man. What if I tell you this tiny gas molecule that your body make can dictate your ability to get and maintain an erection? Sounds wild, right? But the science is clear, nitric oxide is critical for your erection, and that you if don't have enough of it, it will contribute to ED. I'm Dr Anne Trull. I'm a sexual health specialist. I've treated over
7000 men with ED. And in today's episode, we're gonna go over what is nitric oxide, and what does it do, and how you can increase it. So nitric oxide, or NO, is really a colorless, odorless gas composed of one nitrogen and one oxygen. It's actually classified as a free radical due to its unpair electron. However, due to its high reactivity, it can actually be involved in very critical function of the body. So in the human body, it serves
as a crucial signaling molecule with wide ranging roles. So number one, it cause open blood vessels or vasodilatation. So it causes you to have more blood flow everywhere, not just down below. So it's essential for cardiovascular health. Number two, it has facilitated communication between nerve and also muscle. So therefore, it's involved in memory and learning. It's also involved in increasing immunity as well, too. It actually improve the immunity cells to respond to pathogen or
infection, and also it will help with inflammation. Other things that it can do, it helps with respiratory, digestion and also the kidney, by influencing the smooth muscle function and increasing blood flow to these organs. So when you have low nitric oxide, it can cause conditions such as high blood pressure, inflammation of the blood vessel called endothelial dysfunction, ED, and also cognitive decline or memory loss, and impair wound healing as well.
So, and, naturally, your body make nitric oxide. But as you get older, around 40 years old, you make less nitric oxide. Around 40 years old, you make 50% less nitric oxide than you would normally would be. So, you know, said, "Okay, well, I can't do anything about my age," but you can do something to actually increase your nitric oxide. Well, you can start with number one, eating nitrate rich food. So this food, when you eat it, it is nitrate, and in your mouth, and then in your stomach,
it will turn into nitric oxide. Well, these foods are leafy greens, such as spinach, arugula, kale, swiss chard, lettuce, bok choy, mustard greens. All my favorite. You can also eat beets and beet root juice. Other vegetables are celery, carrot, radishes, cabbage, broccoi, and parsley. These foods are high in dietary nitrate, so your body can convert it to nitric oxide. And it will also help in lowering your blood pressure, as well too. Other food are garlic. I
love garlic. So garlic increased nitric oxide, watermelon, cucumber, nuts and seeds such as sunflower seed, pumpkin seed and almond, all precursors of nitric oxide. This is one of my favorite pomegranate and citrus fruit, and dark chocolate all contains antioxidant and these help protect the nitric oxide production as well. Now lean meat, such as chicken and fish like salmon and mackerel are high in omega-3 fatty acid which will increase nitric oxide synthesis.

Now, believe it or not, regular exercise, such as weight training or high intensity interval training called HIIT, can stimulate more nitric oxide. I know, exercise sometimes can be a little hard, but it will increase your nitric oxide, and therefore help with your erection. And the key is consistency. In my last episode, I talked about fluoride mouthwash and fluoride toothpaste and antacid can decrease the nitric oxide. So you want to make sure you don't
use those. And you can always take nitric oxide supplement to increase your nitric oxide. Check out the link right here. Other things that you can do is deep breathing, deep breathing that I talk about my other episode, five minutes of deep breathing will actually enhance your nitric oxide production. And another thing that you will love is sunlight exposure. When you're out in the sunlight, it will actually help you release more nitric oxide. And you know that you can measure your nitric
oxide? Well, you can measure it by using a strip. These are the strips right here. You just put it top of your tongue like that, and in a few minutes, it comes out. So I did that for today's episode. And guess what? I'm a little bit deficient in nitric oxide, because it's not bright pink. decreasing that, but I will work towards like you. Eating more nitrate-rich food, as well as measuring my nitric oxide content. You do this, you measure about, I would say, once a week, and you will see an improvement in your nitric oxide content.
