Ten days from Play. Welcome to seven days to play your Weekly. Mobile game review program. I'm Sam and I'm Edwin. Each week we challenged one another to play a new mobile game in this week, it was my turn and I chose toon blast tune blast. All right hmm. Would you rather And this is related. Hmm, would you rather have a Thirty Seconds to Mars lyrics? Tattooed on your chest, okay? All right. Strong proposition, or would you rather have a tattoo of Tasmanian Devil?
Tasmanian Devil. Yeah, I guess that would be my choice as well. Yeah, there's no way in hell. I'm getting a 30 Seconds to Mars lyrics on my chest. Is that Jared later? Please respond, okay. Sorry for people that might, like Thirty Seconds to Mars. I admire their ambition. The, when I asked this to someone, like one of the funniest answers, like, well, of course, Tasmanian Devil, like, what's wrong with Tasmanian Devil, is this related to the topic at hand Sam? Yes. Achtung blast doors.
Like would you rather eat cockroaches or be 0? Only get to play tune blasters rest of your life? That's a, that's a tough one. That's a real tough. Are they cooked cockroaches all covered in chocolate? Maybe hmm, I might go without now. You select the tune blast. Tune blast is a 2017 game from Peak games. They were also known for a toy
blast. Hmm. So there any, with this blast thing it like last year, like blasting dickface districts because this was chosen from the trending searches on the App Store. Yeah. So maybe they just released some new games or new levels for this, and that's why it.
Top with new looking last week. There was, yeah, there seems to be like a big update that maybe they've had a surge in popularity, but this is a color matching game if you have played any of Bejeweled Blitz, Candy Crush, two dots, three dots dots, he won forever, you know what this game is? Yeah, I do feel like a lot of times these games do wrap a theme around their game. So, like two dots has really
nice impeccable. Minimalistic design, that's going for it, but you get all the highwomen. Heidi toy designer lienard's. Yeah, playing two dots. Yeah but like stuff like Candy Crush, you know it's based around candy. The candies look really delicious and edible. The sound effects are great, like the candy's clinking against each other, really nice?
Yeah. And this game, it's all, you know, sort of very cartoony, like, Who Framed, Roger Rabbit style old Disney ish, very high quality, like Looney Tunes, animation stuff, but being very careful not to tread over. The IP line, right? I love some of the names that these cartoons have Derek duck or like Wiley wolf. Definitely, no coyote. I actually found it quite
Charming belt ever complain. Yeah. Yes. Like I initially thought it was going to be like this really cheesy trihard e, you know, we're going for this like super cartoony look. But the more I sort of look at the Cartoon characters. And the game, there was a lot of attention and love put into it is a lot of Polish to this game. Yeah, I must admit. I mean the theme is largely irrelevant, right?
In fact, almost to the point that I couldn't really tell you where these characters appear apart from the home screen. Otherwise there is really no reason for them to be there, right? Like it because I have the unfortunates president of water playing toy blast. And frankly, I could not tell the difference, I think, if you put a screenshot side by side, I would probably be hard-pressed to tell you the difference. Yeah.
But which ones? Which every once in a while like after you're done with the level, it's sort of presents you with one of the cartoon characters like your they're being introduced to you in some way, which seems to have, absolutely no consequence, right? It's just kind of like there. This is that? Yeah, it's a nice neither annoying norad's any value to your life and the game that you're playing.
It's just that. Because with two dots, they then introduced new characters and they would have social power ups. So sometimes you're like, the antelope and they would, once they get charged up, they could destroy all dots of a certain color. Or if you had the Puffin, they would blow away of puffins because they blow with a pump that works, that's how it works. But actually blow away a column for your something right here. Character is largely irrelevant yeah.
Level like so each level has different characters. That was I think no I figured like it's like they're going on like a road trip or something like that or like at least that was like the theme of episode 1 and so like they introduced the new levels would like a road going across the screen. Okay? Yeah. See ya - maybe you should watch the back story of two dots again. All right? Because apparently there is one, there is one. Yeah, you can find on YouTube, make some strides.
So how would you describe the game? Like, you mentioned it is like much like these Other games, but not really, like I'd say. The gameplay is actually differ from to thoughts, which is also different from Candy. Crush, Candy Crush is a proper match three. We're like you have to flip around the places. Oh I see sudachi like you have to encapsulate the dots right in cops, a little Dosa. Yes that's the.
I think that is actually an improvement right because with two dots you have to drag your thumb over to connect all the dots you want which many times I have not. Captured all the dots that I wanted to thanks to my fat thumbs whereas here if you just tap an area all of the connecting dots color blocks of the same color gets selected, right? And yang is a UI Improvement. Yeah. As a player because like what's
the fun part? The fun part isn't making sure your thumb is down for all the right places to connect all the dots. That's not really the fun part. It's more. Well maybe we'll talk about what the fun part is later. But yes, here they've streamlined that. I think it works. A lot better. Yeah. So the real puzzle element is that well you're given like a square grid with lots of color blocks and you're supposed to try and get rid of certain color blocks.
And the only way that you can get rid of it, if there are more than two color blocks, adjacent to each other touching. So, you know, if there's a color block, like a red color block, and there's another red color, block right above it, that means that you can tap it to get rid of it and the more amount of color blocks there are The more that you can remove at one time
per move. So if there is like 16 connected together, just one tap one lucky day that will that will not only destroy it, but the number of blocks that you have connected will also Grant you some sort of power up. So I think it's like above five is, when you start seeing that if you get rid of it at one point, it'll either turn into a rocket, which didn't shoot, either vertically, or horizontally. I love telling It's random which direction you're going to get. It's a random.
I believe this Madam it is not random. It's about and I tell you between every screen is that within a game, I think really that little that stupid bear likes to tell you. With this thinking face direction is random, oh, his, I'm pretty sure that I was able to set it to the way that I wanted by picking the Block in which the other blocks come from rusting. Yeah. So like, if most of the blocks come from top and bottom the rocket faces, Has vertically.
Yeah, but I'm just I mean that could just all be happenstance, right? Like I don't think I've had this false. Yeah, I believe which I think would also. I know this is going to play into your irritation with a game that it's completely random whether you get to solve the level or not. But I my understanding is that rocket direction is random which So surprisingly, I've good news. Oh, the randomness in this game, did not irk me. Hmm, mainly because there's so
much for me to plan out. I love being a pull quote, to blast P games. You can have that quote for free 7 day supply. But yeah, we're all like, I actually really enjoyed this game. I've been like, kind of sheepishly. I was like when I first started this whole that Cowart electrons. I what in the world? Am I getting myself into? I would never have downloaded this game and then when I started playing it I'm just
like, mmm, okay? There are lots of things that are actually going for it, that I, I actually like, Outside for the like, the really silly cartoony interface. Yeah, it's just kind of embarrassing for me to like, you know, whip this app open and start playing. Yeah, is Drew. It will not provide you any street cred, the kids will most definitely say when you're playing this on the subway. Yeah, this interface is as cool as like, a dad dabbing right-clicking, the fun comes.
You get to combine the most blocks and then also, once you've turned those into power-ups, combining the power ups, 2 mega power up. Yeah, you get the bomb in the rocket, you get the disco ball and not the ditch way. If you get the disco ball that just toys books for one color to disco balls, mate to another world below away, everything everything. Yeah, yeah. All the other mechanics are very familiar.
If you play to these kind of games before, like there's blocks that require multiple destructions for you. Clear that area, there's things that need to be just 10 blocks next to them, and then they release carrots. In this case, previously, it was tossed into a blast. Oops, you know, and you also have the Ikea or your normal things of. Hey, we're going to give you this power up that you can use three times.
That gets rid of either a block or like a row, you can use it, but you should probably save because that's our only form of - Nation which I was actually very surprised by. Did you not a bit surprised home? Yeah. Did you use any of the power-ups? I did. I actually use the power up and they give it to you pretty. Pretty generous, pretty generously. Yeah. Because there are two ways for you to get it. One is for you to reach a
certain level, right? When you reach the tens and 20s and 30s they give you a a tune chest. Oh lucky days, it's not hairy. This is nice and cartoony. And they gave it to you with some subtle, with any others, like power-ups in there and they give you coins. I don't know what the coins are for yet. Probably to buy more power-ups or lives. Yes, I think. If you run out of moves, you can then trade coins for extra moves at the end of the level.
The other way to get chests is to collect the stars from each level. So each level completion will grant you at most three stars, I can say this off the top of my head without even thinking, let's get it. Now that I have, you know, I have to ask the question, did you have to complete every level? At the 3 star. Well it didn't really give me a choice. Oh, I do so good. I can't go back. Uh-oh, the previous level.
I right. So unlike some other games is no sort of map or feeling of progression or cereal going. There is like a map thing but I can't go back to it. I can't go back and play the level that I only got two stars in, which I only got once. By the way, everything else was three stars. I mean, come on. Oh yeah I'm here man. I know who you're talking to here. How far did you get that one? All right, we should do this. Okay Sam. I am currently on level 35. Wow.
Once again out gaming it to be because you seem so bought into this game so far or least you enjoyed this game more than I was expecting. I was expecting you to be maybe five, right 5. That would be a pretty apt guess. Yeah, I'm level 21. Yeah, I have reached wacky or Straw. Oh boy, those little kids wacky. With foxy hound and cool cat. I think are the names. Yeah, there's no way for me to revisit all the characters, maybe that's for the best.
That's not what you have. A sort of General philosophical question for you. Why do you think these games are so popular? Because I look at, look at the App Store page, nearly two million reviews, right? Like these are insanely popular, it's a free game. It's mindless, right? My boy the general public are not doing well in this review. No, it's mindless and it gives you something to do when you're not What anything when once you've checked all your Facebook posts and check your Instagram
posts, right? Check your Twitter feed and check Snapchat, then ah, yeah this game was 100% cattle. Compatible with the podcast, I was listening to because I was not giving this game, right? Any percentage of my like bring rain usage and I wasn't able to complete the levels. Yeah, and yet like there are opportunities where you're like, okay, if I destroyed this block first and then get this and then set that up, I can still have to rock it and the disco ball and
finish out the level. So it gives you really nice opportunities where you can like tune in and actually do stuff and yet it could still be completely mindless and I guess like what's like it's not guilt free. It's like consequence-free playing right. You have absolutely no consequences. Like, you lose a life at you, have five lives and that refreshes overtime. The other thing is no ads. Yeah. Is that true? I was just I was playing mostly underground.
So I figured that maybe we just didn't connect, I couldn't connect the ad server to this. She didn't show you any ads, right. I was surprised. I mean I'm at level 21 and I still haven't gotten an ad. I don't know if it's going to come up later on. Maybe there's like a seven-day retention thing where like, you know, it grabs people for seven days and then that's it.
You're in, but I was expecting at least like if I got 2 episode 2, I'd see an ad but I haven't seen an ad which I'm very, very surprised by yeah. Yeah, I guess maybe they are purely playing a numbers game of having people chip in for the microtransactions. Yeah, to get more lives or buy more things. I say that's the way to do it because I kind of want to give this game like a few bucks now, because it's been a rather Pleasant gaming experience.
Another pull quote, for them, rather Pleasant femi experienced only Supply, a little play. Let's get to the three, by threes, three things, good, and three things that displease. Yeah, it's a puzzle game. I mean like it's a you know, you expect a match-three puzzle game that you feel everyone on their phone should have. This is another edition of that. Yeah. You if you like candy crush you like two dots. You like that. Other one. This is this is going to be that other world Blitz. Hmm.
Yeah. The match 3 game hiding in the Tamagotchi forever. That's it. Sadly. Both the best part of my time, I got you forever. Yeah, I agree. Is is also super polished as you mentioned. Like it's feels like there's a lot of attention to detail even though it's incredibly an original simple feeling game, all the animation and all the illustration looks great. Has almost similar ish. Look to clash Royale. Mmm, sort of slightly bubbly 3D glossy. Look to it. Yeah, they know what's up?
They know they've They have perfected the version of this kind of game. Yeah, I think yeah, I agree or Mass Appeal right there isn't the point where, you know there.
I don't think there's ever going to be a moment where you're like really scratching your head, this solve it but it gives you just enough to like okay yeah I know I know what you do sheer to solve it. Yes it's a puzzle with very little strategy, placed on the player you can there's some Of, oh, well, I need to think ahead that if I destroy these blocks and these two will fall down and they'll match.
But other than that and because it's random, there's not that much responsibility on the player to be to strategic, right? Yeah. And I from what it looks like, like another good point would be there are ways to expand your gameplay if you want to. So there's like leaderboard teams.
What? Super interesting is like it, I guess it kind of gets your location of like Where you're based at. And then so if you look at the leaderboard of the world, whoa, you'll see that leaderboard list of the world, but then right next to it for me, New Jersey. Oh boy. They know you. Yeah there's people on level 2851. That is a think the max levels. Yeah. So you can also join teams probably playing since 2017. Wow. Does seem like you can join
clans. In fact, one of the things that they told me to do before I watched before we came into, this review is to join a clan. I was like, no, thank you. Not going to join a clan. Don't have to join a client for this game. Yeah, I could do that. As I think you get free lives. I was not offended by this game. That's his game. Did not like me. I think that there are another pot of coffee.
All right. - negatives. If you have played any of the maps, three games, there is nothing original or knew about this game, all the mechanics we've seen before. There's no Twist on the existing genre of this game that all the, all the things, you know, and love, which I think is probably one of the things. It makes it so popular is that it's essentially a reskin of all the other games you played, right? Yeah, this is another Well Done.
Generation of one of the more common mobile games that are out there. Yeah, I think if you haven't played a match 3 game before then this is a great example of one. Yeah. If you have there's nothing new here for you. Yeah. And really that with that being said, like I really don't have any other negatives except for the fact that, you know, like I said, it is a little all cartoony looking and it doesn't make me feel cool. When I play, there is nothing cool about that.
If you're on the subway, with your design, friends to a dinner, you are not getting this game out, what? It can almost work rights the opposite way. We're like, you know, you're wearing big ass New Balance shoes because that's in right now. Yes. All right, but be a podcast artwork for Malcolm gladwell's. New show. Breaking the Rules where it's just miss sized. Comic Sans honey yellow background.
Yeah, it's like, if you want that opposite effect, maybe this will be in turn cool for you because, you know, you're so different as well. There's no real feeling of progression one. Like, while I got two dots as you get the maps and the different themes and it's you kind of get that feeling of oh you're going somewhere. As you said, you can't really revisit the past levels. It was endless. Onslaught of levels. My goodness. There are how many episodes are there. Episode 64.
Oh boy. Oh boy. What's that mean? So we're in episode 2. The levels 2240 is episode 2. Okay episode 64 on top of that is what's called Champions League? It's wow. So there is kind of a map. How do I find this tap on them? Cartoon characters? Oh yeah, that's not evident. Oh boy. Okay. Okay. Alright so this gives you a bit more structure. Oh, I see that's while scrolling all the ways. Oh boy. Yeah, this actually makes me feel for the ball daunted. Now of like, oh boy, right?
We don't want there is my life or episodes What am I doing my life? If I want episode 64 right now but you know all of them very well. Designed, like have complete background animated characters. Yeah, there's really good attention to detail here. Just yeah, not my not, my jam and nothing feel fun. 70 rating 7 out of 7. We got him. We got him. This is so easy to get into, I could. Yeah, turn it on. This is super responsive load, times are Quick.
You can just get in there and blast your fingers. Yeah. Okay. I've been to six days. Yeah I think because I played Toy blast pretty recently. I was a little bit over the whole aesthetic which is essentially identical right just with toys instead of tunes. Toy Tunes. I do think it's an improvement over toys. Like you? No good on them for making that switch because I saw toy blast and I was like no this is not for me. Yeah, I pulled up the tunes OK some about Tunes yeah. Yep six days.
It did not work me I'll be with you but I am putting an end to this right now. Yeah. Done. You know, I think there's so many other games to experience outside of this every week. In fact, right? And I think games like this for me, anyway, like I'm not judging anyone. But for me, like, I'd much rather do something a little bit more productive than blast. My fingers. Now that we've played that experiential tune blast, I have a new game for you. I wonder if I should get my
voice out for this. You know, I love out of a good sound impression. No, I can't Edwin. You have seven days to play the all new. Oh, Arie Potter. Wizards Unite. Now, is that wasn't a really good Alan Rickman. I tried but yeah, it kind of faded there seven days to walk on it. Tiffany's to imitate a Alan Rickman. I'm gonna I'm gonna work on it. I'm gonna work on it but yeah so this is a new game. It is Harry Potter's Wizards unite.
The magic all around. You from knee antic makers of these aggress and Pokemon go. And queens of the ever successful Pokemon go day out in Chicago. Did they have like some big event? Oh yeah. They had like a Pokemon fast. That was Pokemon first. Initially, a disaster. Really, really well. But you know, turns into the video and I just could not bear to watch right now. What is the waffle? Oh boy.
Okay, let me read you. The description Wizards unites from the makers of Pokemon go. Harry Potter wizard. Unite is the real world. Augmented reality. Oh, ding. Ding Pegasus. Our game inspired by The Wizarding World. That puts magic in the hands of players worldwide. At sentence was a mouthful. Wow! Harry Potter wizard. Unite is co-developed and co-published by Neon tick ink and WB Games. San Francisco. Why is this in the Closet part
of Porky games? A label dedicated to creating new, Wizarding World mobile and Video Games inspired by j.k. Rowling's original stories. That place players at the center of Their Own Adventure. Let's put this right on the bottom, this'll be the last Last paragraph, it's two sentences. All of that was just two sentences. I feel like I'd L is not descriptive of the game at all. That was completely useless but I don't know.
Look at us, we are the answer, but Porky games, whatever your games have Francisco, the pedigree realize your Wizarding potential. A Calamity has befallen the Wizarding World causing found apples. That's a new word, magical artifacts creatures people and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. As a new recruit of the statute of secrecy stat task force.
Hmm, you'll work with witches and wizards from across the globe, to solve the mystery of the Calamity and keep magic safe from Moguls eyes. So, I'm guessing you have to collect found apples. Yeah. Is that probably was like and what they're setting up here. Yeah. So you know artifacts creatures people's by walking memories. You click as you step outside and explore the world. Sound of to go outside this, you have to walk with it. Yeah, this is the thing hoo. Boy. Yeah, yeah.
So, the big catch phrases. The magic is all around you much like that song. Know who sang it? Originally wet wet wet. So I should know this. The popular British trivia trainer. My God. I even had their album. Yeah. Yes. You are a fan of your fan of them. Even when they were drip drip, drop it just starting out. Yeah. All right. Well, I'm Not excited, but I am curious. We'll see. I mean, Pokemon go was a huge hit. Right? Big Pokemon Goa. I did initially. Yeah. It was fun.
You break them on went I did. I Pokemon Gand everywhere. Yeah. And so we'll see how this actually translates like the quality of the Pokémon stuff was the You know, the full rendering of the characters and everything. Also, the ability to not really use the AR mode, right? Like you didn't have to point at stuff which is super annoying. I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah, this goes. We'll see how this goes. Beloved characters. Come to life before your eyes.
Maybe Harry Potter can redeem themselves with this game because we did not like Hog Wild at all quotes. Yeah. Hogwarts is his Mysteries. Yeah. Dbms Get to the end of what mystery was actually, just read the plot synopsis and I do that, I don't know. And they might have just drag it
on, right? Like I your, I think I believe you're supposed to find your sibling or something like that, wasn't your sibling taken away, and I know I forget, will they be smudge your good name because they were the bad sibling? Oh, that's right. Yeah. Something something, something. Something drawers, drawers triangle. And that's a spell. Okay, before we go Edwin, do you have a thing of the week?
Much? Like I got you with, with last week's game suggestion, you got me with Freaking thing of the week. Last week, turnover. Dad. I know I said that like all are all rise to turn over matey. No. Yeah, well as equation. It's good very well made. Did you finish it? Oh yeah. Hold on. Oh boy. I'm still an episode 3 because it's such a, it's very emotionally taxing. It's a very emotionally taxing show, but it's very well made and very engaging.
Like, I've for me, I wasn't just the right mood. Yeah, to munch through it and episode a night for five nights. It's so All done. Yeah like the Sound Engineering the the sets the production know the creative decision to use. You know, mainly British actors except for Skarsgard who has a weird accent? Hello matey. Yeah. Yes, everything about it is very well made, I would also add a thing and that is the channel podcast, which is from HBO, which is, yes, the official
podcast the show show. Oh, Creator writer executive producer, Craig Mazin and a guy from NPR, do it like an hour on each episode. And for me that was almost as enjoyable as the show itself. It's so it just adds so much more color and understanding and flavor to the show. Did you watch it alongside it or did you? I would do one-on-one. Yes, I within I would watch this episode and then while I was lying in bed, listen to the uplifting podcast, why did Watch the end of the show.
A little tidbits of the yes. Okay, yes, I think that's like a good teaser, but he'll, I can, but you never really get right intricacies of some of the creative decisions, which you do get, because you have a, we have an hour to talk about it. So, yeah, absolutely. Recommend the podcast along with it is, like, it certainly Illuminating. And educating is it on Spotify? There is also where have you ever? Good podcasts are heard.
Mmm. And then I went and rabbit hole, and I'm like a Time. Reading, Wikipedia articles. I think this is the effect that what happens like the beautiful nuclear physicists actually explaining, how nuclear fission works. Damn it. They got me sound like it's crazy. Yeah, I think they got you because it is pretty important, right? Like it is a, it's not just a hot thing. Literally, like, got thing that happened. It's you know, like it could
have ruined everyone's lives. One of the main themes is, what is the nature of Truth and lies? Which is obviously quite, you know, you see reflected back at you in today's political climate or ha ha. But one thing one thing, I'm not sure I agree with. Is that in the show? Is kind of the Assumption is, they know they're lying. Which I'd us. I questioned like, I think, I think. Yeah, I think that always comes into the president of the United States. Like I don't think he knows he's lying.
I think he's so write something else is happening where the reality is so warped that he thinks it's true and I think that's probably what happened in the Soviet Union as well like get their expectations and the they're still touch College. Uh yes is all there that it just distorts reality so they know they're lying world. In the show, it was sort of like, kind of presented it. They knew they were lying and it was this. A deliberate decision to not?
Tell the truth? Well, they thought were the truth, you know, that's a really hard picture to paint though. Especially in like an hour episode, right? Like where we have to give this illusion of like Yeah, it is alive but they're you know they can't we can't show that that it is a lie. You know. It's really hard to strike that balance. I think they they had to choose a side there.
Yeah. But I mean, this kind of stuff like, happens all the time where like people just are constantly lying to themselves that they honestly believe it, right? Like it even happens on like a super small scale where like you have these martial arts, Masters or so-called call themselves like martial arts Masters that believe their skin is indestructible by any sort of blade.
They get a camera crew and say, oh yeah, a knife is not going to work and they're so just bought into this lie that they honestly believe. And then they put Like a Knife into their arm and the documentary is like, oh, look at what what happened? You know what? YouTube videos. I'll be watching. No, but this is like something where, you know, it was like, hmm. Like a Man versus show on my TLC or something like that. Where they like exposed these
gurus. But yeah, it's Let the self-delusion all the self aggrandizement of right being so convinced of something. It's so it's so frustrating to watch as a third party person. Right? Like it was but those are the parts that I felt like we're really delicious because any sort of, you know, old governments like this. I feel that's a huge problem, right? And you see that in in Korea, you see that in Japan, you see that, hmm. You know everywhere? Really. Yeah. Triple check it out.
Yep, I don't think the week I was sick. That is certainly, I think that happens in this week. All right, Sam, we shall play Harry Potter: Wizards unite at actual practice. My Alan Rickman, that's pretty good already better. How is your happens? In, 70s, in the meantime, you can tweet us at seven days to play, don't email us Sundays.
