Support for the show comes from Amazon Prime. You might think of Prime as only a way to get fast free delivery or maybe as the place to stream movies show more than that. got a passion or a you get the most out of it. Whether you're streaming documentaries on marine animals ordering action figure stands Prime makes it easier. Whatever you're in Prime to get more out of whatever you're into. This is Peter Kafka, the host of Channels, the show about what happens when media and tech collide.

And this week I'm talking to Katie Drummond. runs wire she's found a way to breathe new life into that publication vibe Covering news. We started covering Doge, like several stories a day, every single day. And after like a week, I sort of looked around and was like, where is everyone else? That's this week on channels, wherever you listen to your favorite. podcast.

Welcome to another episode of Quick Serve presented by Amazon Prime. I am Andy, JW, Techie Shawnee left during yesterday's episode and I still haven't seen him. We haven't heard anything from him. JW, if you're watching, send up a flare or a smoke signal something. Make sure it has a newspaper in it. Exactly. Exactly. Interesting day at Roland Garros. I think... I think the lead story is tennis is hard and it's really physical.

The story that's not going to be talked about at all anywhere. They're going to call it an upset. But did you see Caspar Root at all? He lost to Borges. but his knee was terrible from like the second set on. And even though he lost, It's weird. He's going to win a lot of locker room points. He finished the match.

let the guy have his moment like it was it was I don't know it was a weird thing where I wanted him to stop because obviously his knee was hurt and it wasn't right and we hope it's something that's short term and not long term but Does he always do things the right way?

It seems like he always does things the right way. He doesn't show anyone up. When he wins, he's super humble about it. I think we take him for granted, is what I think. That's kind of my takeaway for the day, is that we take Kasper Rood for granted. Wins 1000s has made three slam finals. never talks about the fact that, like, You talk about other people who don't even play tennis anymore more than...

then we talk about Kasper Root. So props to Kasper Root. I mean, the respect for him, I think, just grows and grows and grows. Ranking will take a dip, but I don't think I'm going to remember that in 10 years, but I'll remember. Kind of this imprint. This is just one thing that proves a larger point with him. So hopefully we get that across. Tommy Paul. comes back from two sets and fuch of it.

That's a tricky, that's a tough one. You know what I want to say? I want to say fucks a bitch. Right? Everyone wants to say it, but we'll... We'll be okay. Sick nickname. We'll try. We'll try to be better. Up two sets, serving for the third set at 5-3. Your boy TP, Techie Sean, toughs it out. He wasn't feeling right. It didn't look right. You could tell he was like pulling up, but I couldn't tell what the injury was.

Turns out he has a grade one ab strain. You're talking about Tommy Paul here. Tommy Paul. Yeah. So that's something that is, you can't really play around it. You have to kind of expose it and test it every time you serve. He comes forward a lot. Overhead's moving backwards. There's no way around your core when you're a tennis player. You literally turn every single shot, every single movement.

I mean, we're not, listen, we don't, we don't question time of all his toughness. I'll tell you that because that is not an easy injury. It's not dissimilar to what, you know, rough up had to finish the match against Fritz a couple of years ago, Wimbledon three years ago. got through it, and then couldn't play in the semis. And obviously, if Rafa's in the semis of a grand slam, we know that he's going to do absolutely anything to get on the court.

I'd guess they're having those conversations on... Do we continue on in this tournament? And they're going to play it by ear. And we know Tommy Paul is going to want to get out there. He puts on his hard hat. He's not the guy that ever complains about court placement. I'm not on this court. You're not giving it like similar to Casper.

Casper's always been like that. Tommy's, it might be even harder. He's made himself into that guy. Like he is really, it is not an accident, but he is also like, this is a factor. He's really good on grass. He's really good on grass. I think he's good on clay. He's made the semis of Rome. He can make a nice run. I don't know that he can win this tournament.

What is he doing the next 24 to 48 hours with this time? There's a constant thing of ice. You're going to do some ultrasound. You're just going to rinse, repeat. There's no chance that he goes and hits tomorrow or he shouldn't. Anyways, but he's going to wake up. It's going to be 14 hours of ice on, ice off, ultrasound.

heat massage work as much as he can take. If it's really sensitive, you still have to be able to play, so you can't go like what you would normally do and go full thumbs and bruise it up and do the whole thing and let blood take over. But tip of the cap because that was a gutsy effort for Tommy Paul today. We'll see what happens from here on out. Another cool moment I love was Damir Zumer from Bosnia beating Peci Paracard.

That guy, I remember him coming up 12, 13 years ago, and I think he's been in the top 100, out of the top 100. I'm sure he's been playing futures in Macedonia at some point in the last five or six years. For him to get to the third round and he did it and it wasn't this in your face. He was respectful and then he turned to his box and was like in disbelief.

Third round. He didn't realize it was over. He didn't realize it was over. It's weird because there's so many good parts of the day that I don't think were super obvious. But for me watching, I'm going respect. I felt like I was going, like, full Jeter all day, just tip of the cap, you know? Musetti rolled. Sabalenka. I read the news. Like, you know, I didn't see any of her match. But I read the news. It's like...

Struggles, but moves on to the third round. I'm like, and then I look at the score and it's like three and one. I mean... We're getting a little grabby with our headlines if she's winning three in one, right? Little grabby? Little, little... Did you click on it? Little clicky? Did you click on it? I didn't. No. No. Look at you. No. It would have... I would have fallen...

Fall into that prank that you're going to talk about at the end of the show that you sent me. Hopefully, you're going to talk about it. I'm going to make you talk about it. Tennis Central. Oh, my God. Just smoking tennis media. Hilarious. Oh, my God. I have so much time for it. Also, great story. Sophia Kennan. former French Open finalist in the weird one in October of 2020, was at the heights of the game, fell way back. Is back seated. Long road back.

Props wins 3-1 today. Paolini just smoking fools still. Musetti rolling 4-0 and 4. Upset of the day outside of Kasper's knee, which... It's going to ruin brackets, but I don't know how we predict injuries with TP and Rude in that section. Setsipas is someone I have a lot of respect for, has played great as won World Tour Finals. I want to start with respect. And it's a struggle right now. losing on his favorite surface at a tournament that he was one set away from winning.

not too long ago, to Gigante from Italy, who's a qualifier. And, you know, this guy was all hard. He played a strategically brilliant match. but not someone who Prime Sitsapas has a problem with, right? Can't really hurt him too much. off the ground. There's going to be a lot of searching in that camp. I don't know where it ends. I hope we see the Tsitsipas that's kind of carefree and easy, full of flair.

It looks like he's kind of enjoying the game. It doesn't look like he's enjoying it much right now. But that talent's still in there. You know, you hope he's... sourcing the right opinions for the answers, right? You know, he probably knows more about tennis than most of Earth has forgotten, you know, or some version of that. I may have messed that up, but he's forgotten more than most of Earth knows. Yeah.

Fool me once. Fool me once. Fool me once. Shame on you. Fool me. You're channeling JW. Fool me again. Shame on you. I don't know. Anyways, you know what I'm saying. He's forgotten more than most people know. Tiafoe rolls. Francis looked good. And something cool that Francis did also, by the way, his whole team went home after Rome.

They're like, we need a break. He's been over there since Monte Carlo, like nine weeks, which is a run, right? That's a run. He stayed by himself and played hamburger. Trying to find... Oh, really? Yeah. I think Jim Currier was talking about today. Jim Currier, by the way, props. The most studied person.

In tennis media. And there's not a close second, by the way. Some people are getting rankings wrong and stories wrong and they're just saying stuff that's not... And Jim is most dialed. He sent me the full transcript from Tommy Paul's. interview he'd said he told me about the strain like he's my news source and he's also commentating every match i don't know how he has the time for it all um But yeah, he was talking about today that Francis stayed and played Hamburg and it was a long road.

It's weird. You keep grinning, keep grinning. You knock your head against the wall, and then all of a sudden you, for some reason, cruise in the first two rounds of Roland Garros, and all of a sudden you're in the third round. Props to Big Foe. As well, Mike, can you talk about the thing you sent me today? Is it a fake Twitter account? The premise is basically it's this fake Twitter account. Is it a Tinder account? Dude, you're on fire. God.

Someone just take me out to pasture. It's called X. That last aneurotic struggled today. I was looking at Mike and all of a sudden he bashed me over the head. He went like full Ric Flair on me. He doesn't know who that is either. He doesn't know who that is. It's this Twitter account that's basically posting fake quotes and people are running with them.

It's on X. And it literally says in the bio, number one tennis parody news account featured on tennis channel. It says it in the description. Dude, it counts its bodies, bro. It counts its bodies. It says featured on tennis channel Yahoo, TNT Sports, DES Express. Like, just all of us in tennis media, be aware. They're posting parody stuff and then our poor friends at...

TNT and Tennis Channel are posting this stuff or repeating it. Give me the example of the one that Tennis Channel posted like three years ago from this account as news. Oh my god. They posted this fake quote Andy Murray on Djokovic split it was a fun ride we both decided it was time Novak is brilliant one thing I won't miss is the food He would try to get me to eat vegan. Mate, I don't want air sandwiches and chickpeas every meal.

I don't want air sandwiches and chickpeas and then Taylor's channel put it up during a show. Second serve, put it up. That's what they posted. And then they also recently posted a quote from Maddie. That said, honestly, man, I might skip Clay's season next year. Fuck Clay. And like, I said to the guys, I'm like, did he really say this? But it was on a different feed. Like a different feed posted it, which you thought you had seen it.

And then our crack whiz newsletter team, Sam Rogers, went and looked it up. And he's like, bro, I looked at every press conference. He's never said that. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. We checked the facts. Wait a minute. What did we do? Why? Yeah. Yeah. It's not like us. No. It's not. To be fair, the Mehdi thing, that one would have fooled me. Sounds like you.

absolutely said that and i would have been like yeah well maybe just fuck it i don't know yeah maybe just fuck it these are friends in tennis media beware oh that's so good Don't get all your news from Instagram. Wait, weren't they reciting it on TNT too? Yeah, poor Coco. Yeah, poor Coco signing it. Yeah. So it's over for this account, right? I mean, I think it's only just begun. I think they just started cooking. Yeah.

Do you think they have like a backlog of quotes or are they just, are they, they kind of emptying the chamber as they go as far as like, some of them are, some of them are so ridiculous and some of them are like borderline. You're like, Ooh, that's a, that's a bit. That's super fake news, but 4,200 followers on X, they're not following a single person. Alright, well, we just gave this account so much love. It was pretty funny.

I think it's hilarious. I love that they count the bodies in their description. That's so good. The Medi one, so Mike sends me this stuff, and in a panic, I think... Oh, I go to JW and I talk about Mehdi's quote yesterday. Like I, cause I remember, but I woke up and a buddy sent me, he sent me the Medvedev quote.

from this fake account. We didn't know it was fake at the time. And I just thought to my, and his quote was, he's about to go full Andy on the clay court season next year. And I was just like, I didn't even think to fact check it because that is, I'm actually more shocked that Mehdi didn't say that. Right? I mean, it's literally, you read it and you're like, yeah, that makes sense for him to say that. That vibes. Producer Mike, walk us through, have we decided on Redraw Show?

I saw you said a big text, but I didn't read it. I was at my son's playoff baseball game, which went about as well as people quoting Central Sports. He took the L. That's a bummer. There's always next season when you're that age.

The draw show, the redraw show, I think we're going to do it on Saturday heading into the fourth round because we have the Agassi episode coming out on Tuesday. Normally we do it heading into the quarters, but the Agassi episode is going to come out on Tuesday at the beginning of the quarters. So we want to go ahead and So fourth round through the finals, what do you think? I think we need a redraw show. I know I do. I have Sarundalo in the semis, so I could use a redraw. Which Sarundalo?

The one that was ranked higher. Fran. Old friend, Serendi. Oh, man. Yeah, so we'll do that this weekend. That'll come out on Sunday. If we're all good with that, JW gave it a stamp of approval. Okay. Oh, sorry. Wait, you had a proof of life? from him today? Yeah, yeah. It's great. It might not be him. It might not be him. It's Tennis Sentinel. Tennis Sentinel might show up. Is it bad that I want them on a show?

I mean, no one knows who they are. Oh my gosh, it's like the... I want to make it my mission. There's a golf account like, what is it, Tour Pro or something? There's some golf parody account that's pretty funny. Hey, can I congratulate our listeners for a second on something? Yeah, yeah. They helped us.

Oh, yeah? Some more subscribers. They listened. I said, just boop. And by the way, it's at the top of the page. It's at the top of the page. I cut it out. Condescending correction that you left out. It's at the top of the page. It's at the bottom of the video. If I meant at the top of the video, I would have said top of the video. It's actually not true based on this performance in this show.

Um, I just, but you want to know how quickly I just assumed you were right because it was on the internet. It's like, oh, it's on a YouTube page. We have to scroll. Techie Sean knows better than I do. Techie Sean is tennis. Yeah. Oh my God. Could you imagine? che giorno Could you imagine? But he's not. He's not. He's not. I'm not spreading that. Could you imagine if he was?

Sean, that would be the most epic thing for you to do. Mike reaches out to Tennis Central to get me on the show. Be like watching someone fly, right? Just be like, look at him. Look at him go. Just trolling everyone. All right. Well, that's about it. We covered a little tennis and a lot of parody accounts. Never know what's coming.

Never know what's coming. Be sure to subscribe somewhere on frame. Well, I'm looking forward to some more matches called from a desk with six people on the same match talking over points tomorrow. What about you, Mike? I don't know. I kind of dig it. You know, I think by hour seven, when they're still talking about strings, though... Thanks for watching, sir. Brought to you
