¶ Intro / Opening
Hello and welcome to . Seo is not that hard . I'm your host , ed Dawson , the founder of keywordspeopleusecom the solution to finding the questions people ask online . I'm an affiliate marketer , seo , and I've been building and monetising websites for over 20 years .
I've built sites from the ground up , bought sites and sold sites in large exits here to share with you the SEO knowledge , hints and tips I've built up over the years . Today , I'm going to share some of the other SEO and marketing podcasts that I listen to on a regular basis and which I recommend .
I've been listening to podcasts for a long time now many years . It's my favourite medium for keeping up to date with the SEO world and discovering new people in the industry and their stories . It's the reason why I decided to start a podcast last year to give something back to the community .
So I thought it's only fair to give some love back to the SEO and marketing podcasts that I regularly listen to . You might find something here that you'll find useful too .
¶ SEO and Marketing Podcast Recommendations
Now , the order they're in is the order they're in my podcast app , so the ones I've been listening to longest are the ones which I'll talk about first , down to the most recent ones at the end .
These aren't all the industry podcasts that I listen to , but they are the ones I will always listen to when a new episode comes out , which to me , must be a vote of confidence in them . I'll also copy this list into the show notes , so if you want to go back and pick out which ones I'm talking about , then they'll be there for you later .
So number one on my list , the one that I've been listening to the longest , is the niche pursuits podcast by Spencer Hawes and also now with his co-host , jared Bauman . Now this is published about twice a week . We have once a week .
They have their news podcast , which is a more up-to-date thing with new SEO news and their weird niches and shiny objects websites that they tend to discuss between the two of them , and then there are the episodes they publish a week will tend to be a , an interview with someone who's done something with a niche website or in the niche website space .
So those episodes can be , yeah , about around about an hour long and , yeah , I've listened to this one for the longest . Spencer's really good in the fact that he's actually tried loads of things . He's . He's done all sorts of things from Google adsense sites . I think he's done FBA stuff , he's done display sites and he's done affiliate stuff .
He's done all sorts of things . So , speaking from world experience , so yeah , it's , it's one I will always listen to . Second on the list is search off the record from Google , from the Google search relation team . So this is John Mueller , who you may have come across , and his team and it's comes out .
I think that it says it's quite fort and fortnightly , but it can actually be sometimes a couple of months or more between episodes . But it's generally worth listening to because they do talk about some of the concepts behind search and search engines and also some of the recent developments , especially around the search console .
Um , I've got to be honest , I find it a bit difficult to listen to the banter between between the , the , the sort of the Google , the google is on it , because it's just not funny . But the actual content and the underlying content is really worth listening to . So , however painful it may be to listen to , I do recommend you listen .
It's a it's a really good one to keep on top of it . Again , with anything that comes from google , always you need to have a certain filter on it . I don't think they ever actually lie and make things up because they're representing a publicistic company , um .
But you know , I think sometimes there's a bit of obfuscation of some of the things they say , but there is generally a lot of good information there and it's definitely one I'd recommend everyone listen to . Third on the list we have the authority hacker podcast with gail breton and mark webster from authority hacker dot com .
Um , these guys have been going for a long time . Um , they actually run lots of courses on how to build um online websites you know , niche websites and especially run affiliate marketing and content creation . Um , I like these guys because , um , they work together well and they actually tend to have some quite practical stuff they talk about . It's not just fluff .
Um . I also like the fact that over the years , they've actually changed their position on certain things . Um , they've not just got one story that they follow all the time on one method . They've actually they've actually moved as as search texts moved on and the different tactics work and old tactics don't work anymore . So I quite like them for that .
Um , they publish Every couple of weeks , normally about an hour long episode . Usually they've got someone that they interview , or sometimes it's just gail and mark themselves talking through a strategy or a tactic that they've been using Um , but , yes , definitely one that gets listened to every time .
Fourth on the list we have nudge by philagmu at nudge podcast dot com . Now , this is not an SEO podcast . This is a definitely very much a marketing modcast podcast and it is all about really the psychology of behavioral science and how you can use behavioral science within marketing to , you know , improve your campaigns . This is um .
I think these comes out once or twice a week , um . They're not only about 20 25 minute episodes . Cajuny does a longer one , but they're short . They're shorter than than some others , but they're just always packed full of of case studies and ideas and things that you can actually use . Um .
The actual curiosity gap that we use to create the bright SEO Um flyers that got us a thousand new users . That previous episode talked about that . That was ideas that I originally picked up on this podcast , um . So , yeah , if you're interested in trying to persuade people using behavioral science , then this is just perfect . I highly recommend it .
Fifth , we have the dug show with dug connington . Um . Dug show is very much about affiliate marketing and side hustles , um , so he's very much on especially sort of focused on people who are trying to get started or looking to try and getting into new things to earn money on the side .
Um , now , I like it because , um , that was me once , um , and I still like listen to lots of the stories that people um are looking for .
You know the things they tried , because there's always new things coming out and and so Doug really has a real , real variety of people who are trying to make that sort of jump from Um sort of the corporate world into doing their own thing , and I just find it really enjoyable and , um , yeah , he posts a lot as well .
There's always something you coming out there . So another one that I listen to regularly . Sixth , we now have marketing Grain by Kip Bodner , who is HubSpot's CMO , and Kieran Flanagan , who is Zappius CMO . This is all about the latest marketing trends and growth tactics .
It's not strictly SEO , although they do cover areas of SEO at times but it's just really good bringing in some of what's new in the digital market industry .
It's a bit more high level and probably a little bit more advanced than some of the more beginner stuff , but , yeah , I like the style of how to get on and talk to each other and , yeah , it sometimes gives me ideas for new things to do . Seventh on the list I have Karl Broadbent's podcast . I think it's just called Karl Broadbent .
Now , karl is very much like a dug , but from the UK , so it's a bit like the dug show , but it's UK based . He's , again , someone who's very much into niche sites and side hustles and helping people , sort of going from zero to one , essentially so getting started .
He also runs an affiliate marketing conference in the UK called Affiliate Gathering , which I think is probably onto its third conference this year . He's very honest . I love his honesty . He's had a real hard time recently because he got quite badly hit .
His sites he was concentrating on got hit with a helpful content update , but he hasn't shied away from the fact that this happened to him . So and he's carrying on with his story and yeah , so he's just really honest and open and , yeah , his podcasts aren't overly long but they're always worth listening to .
I just enjoy hearing how he's getting on and what his story is . Eighth on the list is this Week in Dating with Jackie Chao and James Delacey . Now Jackie is quite forthright , I would say , and he's had some arguments . He's rubbed up some people the wrong way on Twitter and sort of . He's like Marmite would say in the UK . He's a loving one .
I hate him Now . I like listening to him and James and how they discuss things . You know , jackie does some things that he wouldn't describe himself as a white hat , I don't think , and he's definitely more head grayer and grayer in some of the things he does . For example , at the moment he's very into parasite SEO , which some people have a different view on .
But it's good to hear someone who's talking and operating on that level , even if it's not a path you want to follow , because it's just good to keep up with what people are doing , because there will be some things always that bleed in to other ways of doing things and it's just yeah , I always think it's very valuable to keep on top of that .
They do roughly about one episode a week . Sometimes it's just the two of them chatting . Other times they'll quite often have guests on and they'll talk about particular tactics or particular strategies and , yeah , it's always good to see what other people are doing and , yeah , they're quite honest and open , so I enjoy that .
Ninth on the list is the unscripted SEO interview podcast by Mark A Preston , who is a SEO trainer and a speaker in the UK . I can actually vouch this definitely is unscripted and unedited , because I was actually on this a month or so ago . Mark approached me and said he'd like to interview me and I was very honored to go on and had a long chat with him .
He's just got some really good mix of people and he's roughly about an hour long interviews with people and he kind of follows a little bit of a format . I feel listen to him over and over again .
Although they're unscripted , he does have some common questions he asks , but he tends to let the conversation flow really nicely and again , I think he gets things out of people that others don't . His style is very unique and but I enjoy it . He

does put out lots of shorter podcasts , one or two minute ones as well , so if you follow him you will get lots of him in your feed , but the ones I really listen out for are the longer form hour long interviews . 10th on the list , we've got the podcast by James Delacy and Gareth Boyd and it's brought out by 40Analytica .
It came out of the niche website Builders podcast , which but niche website builders went bust sometime early last year and Gareth Boyd actually got James to sort of relaunch the podcast along the same lines that that one went , and I was actually on this I think I was probably the third guest on this when they launched it but they have a .
They have I won't speak for myself , but all the other people they have on there . They have lots of people who've done something online and I've got a good story to tell and something you should be able to learn from . So , again , these are the kind of like hour long episodes and James is a really good podcast host and an interviewer .
He's also because he also does the this week in digital marketing as well . So if you listen to both of these , you'll get quite a lot of James , but he's a really good podcast presenter . So this is another one I'd highly recommend . Now 11th on the list and we're near the end . Now the startups for the rest of us by Rob Walling .
This is for bootstrapers and bootstrap startups particularly those who are growing a software as a service company . So I find this very relevant because of keywords people use .
Obviously , keywords people use were a software as a service , and it's really good to hear other stories from people who and best practice from people who are running other software as a service , who are potentially , especially those which are further along in their journey than we are .
It's always great to learn from other people in a similar business type to you , so if you're into software as a service or interested in starting a software as a service , then I highly recommend this one .
Finally , number 12 on my list actually the one I've been listening to the longest , but it's not strictly an SEO or a marketing podcast , it's just my favorite podcast and I thought I'd give it a shout out , and that is Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre podcast , or Rehulis de Peux as he likes to call it .
Now he's a comedian and it's just him interviewing other comedians . Usually he hires a theatre and sells tickets . There's a live audience with it . Now I'll let you listen to it as a podcast , but also occasionally because it's all stand-up comedians . The interesting thing is they have stories . They're expert storytellers , so I actually like listening to it .
From that point of view , because I'm not a great storyteller , I hope to improve all the time and listening to them , I try and sort of pick up on how they tell stories and especially guests he has on again and again , how those stories repeat sometimes and how they keep them engaging . And also there was occasionally the odd tip in there .
There was an episode of Listen to the Week where they mentioned some software called Vellum , which is for if you're writing a book and self-publishing it , which is one of the things I'm currently working on . It's actually software that helps you do that whole process , and that's a tip I got from this .
So , yeah , occasionally it does become a marketing podcast , but just a shout out to Richard Herring because it's a great podcast and I love it . So there you have it 12 podcasts that I'd recommend to anyone interested in SEO and marketing . Well , maybe not the last one , but 12 podcasts I definitely recommend .
