Episode description

Michaela Booth was neglected by her heroin addict parents when she was a child. As a teenager, a sixty second act of violence led to her ending up serving a prison sentence in the same prison she used to visit her mother in. Her painful memory of  leaving her own daughter to be cared for by her heroin addicted mother tormented her. The stigma of her conviction and imprisonment propelled her to change her life and the cycle that threatened her daughter. As a criminologist with lived experience she now provides invaluable insight and direction that is changing the prison health care provision for female prisoners and is a powerful advocate and force for change.
