Episode description

In this week's text, Jesus asks his disciples an indirect question, "Who do people say that I am?" and the disciples say people think he's Elijah, John the Baptist or another prophet.

Then, Jesus puts his disciples on the spot by turning the question on them, "Who do you say that I am?" In this direct question, Jesus is pulling a confession out of the hearts of his disciples—and of us. And it's Peter that nails the answer: You are the Messiah.

But it's what happens next that Dr. Croghan zeros in on in this week's conversation. Jesus explains the gospel plainly and Peter, like every one of us who hear the gospel for the first time, is incredibly offended.

Buckle up to hear:

  • What it means to be a follower of Jesus?
  • Why we are offended by Jesus forgiving our sins?
  • What it actually means to take up your cross?
