Episode description

Jesus tells his apostles that the temple—the opulent landmark of the day—is going to be destroyed and natural disasters, plagues and wars are coming their way. Oh, and they will be hated because of Jesus' name. Hearing this, it can be jarring hearing that this is the Gospel of our Lord.

Sarah Stenson joins Adam Guthmiller, Kiri Haugen, and Mason Van Essen to discuss how a text like this can come across as threats in the law or as promises in the gospel.

Why will we be hated because of Jesus? Because He treats sinners unfairly. We deserve the punishment for what we've done, but, instead, we're given Jesus' promise of the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting.

Adam, Kiri, and Mason ask:

  • Why will we be hated because of Jesus?
  • When will all of these bad things take place?
  • How can Jesus promise not a hair on our head will be hurt?

At Luther House, we are always striving to find new ways to teach Christians to preach and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Always grounded in Lutheran theology, we strengthen Lutheran leadership and ministries for the proclamation of the Gospel.

This Friday, you will get a sneak peek of brand new content created for our Reformation Class in February of next year!  We are so very excited to be joined by Tiny Luther, himself.
