Season 3 begins with an homage to women's prison films as Bo finds herself in Hecuba Prison under the watchful eyes of a tribe of Amazons. We have a new Ash and a new couple. Wayne and Dave introduce two new segments, "Really? Really?" and "Predictions" and transplant an old one.
The last two installments of the Season 2 trilogy/finale leave The Garuda dead, Trick despondent, Dyson in love, Kenzi wounded, and Bo in control as a leader to be feared. However, we just don't know which side she's controlling. Wayne and Dave talk about the unanswered questions heading into Season 3 and make a prediction or two.
Sorry about the audio quality, but we hit the home stretch of Season Two with "Fae-nted Love," "Truth and Consequences," and "Lachlan's Gambit." Not one but two major players die in service to their clan, and Wayne and Dave discuss the Doctor Who Christmas Special.
The genie and the bottle myth is explored in "Midnight Lamp" as Ryan Lambert comes to Bo's rescue, but it's Wayne's favorite character, The Morrigan, who shows up in "Table For Fae" and leads Kenzi to agree to the proverbial "deal with the devil." We wrap up with "School's Out" and "The Girl Who Fae'd With Fire," the latter providing some much needed background of the noble families.
Tonight's show features "Can't See the Fae-Rest," "Masks," and "Barometz, Tick, Pressure." We finally learn the source of the impending evil, and that Lachlan may not be the bad guy we all thought he was. Despite the fact that Bo's being pushed to the front line in the coming war, she's still unlucky in love though others around her have been striking gold.
Well, we made it, and with time to spare even managed to sneak in a little Revolution talk as our favorite new non-SyFy show goes into radio silence for several months . We're not sure from where it originated, but Bo displays a new found power as she sucks the chi out of an entire room. A rusty nail holds the key to Nadia's revival, and even Lost Girl can't stay zombie-free. Bo and Kenzi immerse themselves in the dark fae world as a mural artist appears to be setting up various members of the dark fae community. Power, control, paranoia, and uneasy alliances generate much of the action in an episode rich with our favorite characters. Through a series of flashbacks in this Dyson centric episode, we learn about the people and events that helped shape the wolf he is today. Dyson has his wolf back, Bo secures an unusual WMD, and Dr. Lauren bakes goodies so tasty even Kenzi can look the other way at the sparks beginning to fly between Bo and her doctor.
After a night of intense drinking, Kenzi invokes Baba Yaga to place a curse on Dyson despite Bo's pleas to the contrary. Dave and Wayne agree that this is not one of the strongest episodes, but it does contain some highlights. The Doctor tops the list of male scifi/fantasy heroes as the guys return after a two week Hurricane Sandy interruption.
In this Dyson lite episode, a series of dreams forces Bo to once and for all cut ties with "the wolf who shall not be named," as she also comes to terms with the new Ash's hold on Lauren. Mumford the Brownie may, in fact, be our favorite fae of the week which just so happens to be the temporary name of the segment Wayne debuts. But perhaps the biggest revelation of the evening occurred when Wayne admitted to having seen Twilight . Say it ain't so.
With The Ash near death, the light fae hold a stag hunt to find a worthy successor. However, a twist occurs as a star-crossed lover appears at Bo's door after being imprisoned for 83 years. Wayne and Dave have called it quits with baseball and vow to return full time to their real jobs, watching supernatural and scifi television.
After going walkabout for three weeks, Dyson returns and comes clean with Bo regarding his pact with The Norn. Trick has his hands full as The Ash lies near death while the dark fae vultures circle looking for an opening. Dave and Wayne argue over who should hold the title of "The First Lady of Scifi," and Revolution, Fringe and The Doctor all get high marks.
First the good news; The power of three breaks down the Season One finale as Danielle joins us in the studio, imparting a unique perspective the guys have been unable or unwilling to provide. Bo faces down her mother but feels Dyson has betrayed her. Trick, once again, tries to stem a light/dark war with his blood, and Dyson makes a drastic sacrifice as he meets with the Norn. Bo and Dyson go undercovers as a married couple who want to join an exclusive country club that just so happens to have had several employees go missing in mysterious manners. Dyson rocks the Polo shirt, but Kenzi's forced to work in the club's kitchen as the trio discovers the fae responsible.
In a faetal twist, Dyson's life is on the line as he's accused of murder, and it's up to Bo and Kenzi to clear his name despite obstacles placed in their way by the lovable baddie Vex. The Doctor Who Series 7 premier is discussed in a bit more detail than usual, but that's to be expected.
Bo's supernatural powers take a back seat as a new succubus comes to town. The Blood King requires the help of a human, and Kenzi once again negotiates a peace all the while solving one of the episodes mysteries. The guys take a peek at Grimm and discuss their uneven reactions to a new twist on an old story.
The most sacred day of the fae calendar serves as the jumping off point for this episode that sees Bo put her life on the line to save a light fae who has wrongly accused his dark fae brother of a crime he didn't commit. Reveals abound as we learn the identity of the Blood King and find out that Bo's mother's return is something to be feared. Wayne and Dave discuss monsters including Godzilla, The Weeping Angels, and The Smoke Monster.
The search for Bo's mother continues as she and Kenzi visit death row to obtain information about her. Lauren betrays Bo, and Dyson's distaste for and distrust of Dr. Lewis escalates. The guys finally discuss Warehouse 13 and look ahead to evaluating Grimm's pilot episode.
The Bo, Dyson, Lauren triangle faces its most serious challenge yet when Bo, Kenzi and Hale suffer vivid hallucinations after being bitten by an underfae spider. Dyson draws a line in the sand in this episode that employs numerous B-movie elements. Dave and Wayne discuss a number of cool scifi weapons and gadgets.
Trick goes from being a grumpy, old bartender to a fatherly nurturer as Kenzi's thieving habits finally place her life in jeopardy. Bo and Lauren work together as espionagistas as they attempt to save two lives. We see that Lost Girl isn't our actors only project, and Wayne and Dave discuss actresses they'd like to see in the scifi genre.
Bo, Kenzi, and Dyson continue to navigate around the rules, some old, some just enacted. Bo's search for self, however, takes a big turn as she learns her mother is still alive and presumably looking to reunite with her daughter. But the Oracle reveals that Bo plays a much larger role in the fae world than was previously realized. Wayne and Dave admit that while it's good for what it is, The Vampire Diaries isn't likely to be picked up by their personal networks.
Rejection runs rampant in this episode as Bo and Kenzi get duped by a seemingly innocent young woman whose life appears to be in danger. Bo and Dyson's relationship takes a new path, but Bo, once again, has to answer to The Ash. The Terminatoresque episode of Community draws on a number of scifi standard devices, and top villains and overall baddies are discussed.
The guys discuss the evolving relationships between Bo and Dyson and Bo and Kenzi as the characters try to save a girl who's been kidnapped to provide lunch for an obscure Japanese fae. Supernatural's pilot gets high marks and both Wayne and Dave vow to continue with the series even though the prospect of ever getting caught up seems daunting. This week's Top 10 list examines scifi television shows that were cut down in their prime.
Bo and Kenzi must learn to play by the rules set down by the fae community, but it doesn't prove easy. Eric Cartman actually works his way into a scifi podcast, and Dave and Wayne discuss their favorite secondary female scifi characters. In a change of course to enable us to improve our supernatural television cred, we will be viewing the pilot episode of Supernatural and reporting back next week.
Dave and Wayne dive right in and dissect the pilot episode focusing on the characters and the emerging storyline. This week's homework revolved around an old X-Files episode that explored the more traditional view of the succubus. And finally the Top 10 Scifi Heroines list is discussed. In this first podcast, we've laid out our approach to future podcasts and hopefully given you some insight into our scifi/supernatural sensibilities.
