Tonight's episode takes us back into familiar ground, the South Mountains of North Carolina. Joining me once again is Jerry, or as he's known on TikTok Kaser Rebel, a voice many of you already recognize. Jerry's been on the show before, sharing his own powerful encounters, but his journey didn't stop there. Since then, Jerry's continued gathering incredible first hand encounter stories from people throughout the South Mountains, stories that are raw,

personal and impossible to ignore. He's become a trusted listener and storyteller for folks who've experienced something they can't quite explain, and many of these encounters are now being shared on his TikTok channel j R. Millwood, which I've linked for you in the show notes. Be sure to head over there and give him a followup. But for now, sit back, relax, and enjoy these chilling, fascinating encounter stories from the South Mountains of North Carolina.

Speaker 3

Hey, guys, Casa Rebel here, Welcome to a special series of episodes from my series The Strange and Unexplained Phenomena of the South Mountains, North Carolina. You're going to want to watch this to the very end, especially those of you who was with me on the live last night. We talked about a lot of this last night, But the end of this episode tonight, I'm gonna come through and deliver what I promised you I would deliver it with something we didn't talk about last night.

Speaker 4

So hang in there with me, only my cup of tea.

Speaker 3

Is I simply interview witnesses, I collect their stories, and then I share those with you. For what I'm doing tonight and for the next couple of episodes is I have done research mainly Internet, but also have researched some books, especially the BFRO website. You can go on there and use BFRO website. That's big Foot Field of Researchers organization. You can pick a state and each state is broken down by counties and you can go county by county

and read reports to your heart is fulfilled. Also, as usual, I used the bigfootcase Book, updated edition. You can get that off the internet a number of places, to include Amazon. So these are all reports that I had nothing whatsoever to do with. These were people I didn't know that made reports to sources that I have no connection with. And I'm dedicating tonight's episode with all the possible sarcasm I can muster to a certain smartmouth who said that

this phenomenon did not exist until I came into the area. So, without further ado, let's go back to nineteen seventy two, nineteen seventy three. In that time free so BFRO report and it's near place here in the South Mountains of Cleeveland County called Butler None, a man who was a lifelottle hunter and outdoorsman was hunting a ridge in the Butler Nabb area area, and he happened to look up and on the ridge across from him, he saw at about a distance of four hundred yards something that at

first he thought was a bear. But it became very obvious to him that it was no bear because the creature he was observing had been walking a great long distance on two legs.

Speaker 4

Now, if you know anything.

Speaker 3

About bears, they will get up very briefly and walk on their hall legs, but it's not comfortable to the bear, and they are not very efficient moving in that manner. They're going to drop down and walk on all fours ninety nine point nine percent of the time. This creature this man was watching, he described it at being over seven feet tall in darkened color. Now, he said that as he watched the creature, it stopped and it started doing something very mysterious. He said, it started messing with

the tree bredge. He couldn't tell what it was doing, And I suppose that's going to remain a mystery forever. Of knowing what that was doing with that trelium. But then the creature just turned and walked over the ridge

and disappeared over on the other side. So some people that might sound like a simple encounter was out a lot of frills, But I assure you that every encounter like that deeply impacts the witness And in this case, this lifelong entripid outdoorsman, for the rest of his life swore off ever going to that area again to heart.

Speaker 4

And that's a.

Speaker 3

Common thing that I have found with witnesses that I've interviewed, and witnesses that I have seen interviewed on documentaries and in books. However brief their encounter was, it caused them to stop going to a certain area. Normally, you're outdoors people, your hunters are very intrepid, not a lot scarce. But when they swear all going and hunting a perfectly good, good area.

Speaker 4

That tells me a lot.

Speaker 3

Now, I will to say that in the winter of nineteen seventy eight, in the nineteen si which is a special time in the history of this phenomena, here in the South Mountains area, there was an entire cluster many encounters that was recorded and I'm not going to just spend a minute and a half or two minutes talking about that. There was too many things happened. It was very complicated. There was some skulduggery involved. So we're going to give that whole thing. It's on episode and we're

going to skip over that for now. But it was during that time period that our creatures here gained the nickname nobbies.

Speaker 2

Now, as Jerry just mentioned, the big foot in and around the South Mountains is called Knobby. So I thought I would break in here real quick and give you some context before we go any further. If you've ever wondered where that name actually comes from, here's the story. Back in the nineteen seventies, sightings of a large ape like creature started popping up in a very specific part of Cleveland County, North Carolina. These encounters weren't scattered all

over the place. They were concentrated around a geographical feature called Carpenter's Knob, which sits north of King's Mountain in the South Mountains region. Now, if you're not familiar with the area, the terrain there is known for its rolling hills and distinctive elevated formations that locals refer to as knobs. So when folks started seeing this big, hairy creature wandering around near Carpenter's Knob, well, it didn't take long for

a nickname to stick. They started calling him Noobby. The creature in the landscape became linked in the minds of the people who lived there, and unlike the generic term bigfoot that gets thrown around everywhere, Nobby became something uniquely theirs, a local legend with a local name tied directly to the land where those first encounters took place. To this day, the residents of Cleveland County still share stories about Nobby, and they take a certain pride in their home grown cryptid.

It's not just bigfoot to them. It's their bigfoot, all right. Now, let's get back to Jerry and more encounter stories from the South Mountains.

Speaker 3

Well, let's jump ahead to March of nineteen ninety one, Rutherford County, North Carolina, near a place called bat Cave, just twenty five minutes up the road, thirty minutes from me or so, but certainly within the range of the South Mountains. There was two fishermen, and this comes from Bfr there was two fishermen fishing the broad river in a sparsely populated area. Fisherman number one saw a creature, suddenly looked up, saw a creature washing him from the

other side of the river. And he said that this went on for five or ten seconds, which in that particular circumstance can seem like it in the moment, it seem like it lasts for outsh Imagine locking eyes with some creature who you just looked up and suddenly there was this thing looking at you.

Speaker 4

He said.

Speaker 3

It then just simply walked behind a laurel thicket and disappeared. But he could hear it walking in the thicket, which tells me it was a large general. He described it as six to eight feet tall. And here was an interesting thing, lean and not bulky. Now that goes contrary to almost every description that the eyewitness has ever given. Normally the very big specimen's robust physical shape.

Speaker 4

But this one was lean and not bulky, and that caught my attention.

Speaker 3

And then I saw his description of its coloration, that it was dark brown but had gray hair, also, which tells me it was an aging creature. Perhaps it had disease or was nearing the end of its life. But fisherman number two, who was about fifty feet away, had a different vantage point, and he said that he watched the creature sick or not, effortlessly walk up the side of the mountain on the opposite side of Gray Rick, hidden one of the thickets. And I would certainly like

to talk to these two witnesses. That would be great. I believe every word of it, but I would certainly enjoy a conversation with him. So if either one of your we're watching this episode, reach out to me. Now, to those of you who watched a live last night, in tonight's episode, was something we didn't talk about last night. This comes all the way up to October of twenty

twenty one. We're skipping in time. We're skipping ahead, but we'll go back and we'll finish our chronological discussion of sightings.

Speaker 4

October twenty twenty one.

Speaker 3

Two hunters riding four wheelers in this area along part of the Broad River. The man on the lead four wheeler could hear something over the sound of his engine, and it compelled him to stop and shut his engine off into listen, and then he was able to very clearly hear this noise and understand what it was. No longer impeded by the sound of the engine of that vehicle.

He said, it was this long, howling noise that started out deep frequencied below, and then it rose in pitch and also rose in volume, and it cycled through that twice, and he said it shook him up just terribly. And he heard his him coming up behind him on the other four wheeler, catching up with him, and he turned around and was frantically waving his hands like that, and then he put his hands out telling his friend to stop.

He wanted his friend to stop immediately, and his friend slowed down and was coming closer and closer to him, and suddenly his friend got this shocked, surprised look on his face, his eyes again big. He immediately started pointing behind.

So we're trying to get his friend to turn around and look behind him, and there behind him stood this seven to eight foot creature they estimated to be over four five hundred pounds, and then it was just looking at him, and then suddenly turned walked through the river without his head ever going completely underneath, and then disappeared in the woods on the other side. Let's talk about some more creepy North Carolina apple Achian Foothills big Foot sighting.

So let me take you back to October of two thousand and one Burke County, North Caroline A near the town of Mornings. This report comes to us from bfro's online resources. There were three campers watching strange lights in that area, and they were trying to determine if these lights were explainable or if perhaps they were witnessing the infamous Brown Mountain lights. But their concentration was broken. They heard a very odd and I.

Speaker 4

Presume chilling noise.

Speaker 3

It was a long lasting screen, lasting for several minutes, and the witnesses described it as sounding like yodeling. Now that comparison has been made before, and I for one can't think of any North American wildlife that makes a yodling light nighttime sound.

Speaker 4

And I want to point out before.

Speaker 3

We move on, that this area they were in was, in fact, as I alluded to earlier, known for strange light, a trait that is consistent in the Appalachian Mountains and certainly in the South Mountains, Mountain Range and the periphery in and around the South Mountains. There is definitely some kind of relationship between strange lights and bigfoot or cryptid reports.

Witnesses testimonies across the board bear that app Let's jump ahead to the summer of two thousand and six here in Cleveland County, my home county, near the town of King's Mountain, North Carolina, about eight thirty in the evening, and this comes to us from BFRO and their online resources. Oneman was standing at her kitchen window about eight thirty at night, washing her hands, and her husband testifies that all of a sudden he heard her yell, what the hell

was at She saw a creature. She saw the head and shoulders of that creature go by the window. Now, the next day they determined that due to the height, the window was above the ground and it was a good distance off the ground. In order for his wife to have been able to see that creature through the window, it would have had have been at least ten foot tall. Now, the husband also found a twenty to thirty foot green or living sapling that had been snapped over at about

three foot high. In the world of cryptid investigations, we call those tree breaks. It takes a tremendous amount of force to be able to snap a living tree of that size. One more interesting note, this couple has a creek on their property that feeds the Broad River. My mind immediately went back to the legend of Voggie Crue, the great movie of the nineteen seventies, the granddaddy of all the big foot films. If you haven't seen it, you need to, you're missing out. But in that movie

there was a famous quote, he always travels the creeks. Now, I can tell you in interviews with some of the old timers around here and with my experiences, the same is true here, and eyewitness testimonies across the board tells us that they do, indeed always travel to creeks.

Speaker 2

Stay tuned for more sasquatch out to see. We'll be right back after these messages.

Speaker 3

So if you got a creak along your property, then you're in a wooded area, you might want to pay attention. Lockdow County two thousand and eight a family who had a long history of cryptid activity at their home, prior history of screams, wooden knocks, but one night one of the witnesses got the sensation of being watched. Now, I think most of us can relate to that. I certainly can't. Not only in the woods, or at night outside, but in my own home, getting that sensation of being watched.

It's some kind of a sixth sense that us humans have. We stepped outside and we heard a series of tree knocks. So we picked up a piece of wood and made his own tree knock, and was immediately answered by yet another tree knock.

Speaker 4

Now a tree knock, for those of you who don't know.

Speaker 3

You take a stick, a wooden stick and hit a tree, or take two wooden objects and hit them together, and you've got a wood knock.

Speaker 4

Then there was a rock.

Speaker 3

Throwing incidents here on this property. Witness heard rocks hitting the metal roof of his house. Then he caught a glimpse of something gray moving toward him, Now a gray colored creature, probably an aging creature, probably not just a different color, but aging. But he saw a gray creature. And then the next day he found some footprints in a dirt bank, and that night he heard howling continue for a while.

Speaker 4

But here's where it got tricky.

Speaker 3

Not only did this man here pounding on his walls outside that night. Now I don't mind saying I am a witness to having that happen in a structure that I was in and that's happened more than once. Not a comforting sound, especially coming at twelve or one o'clock in the morning when he was sound asleep, but he a so heard pounding on the roof of his house. Two thousand and nine, McDowell County, Northchuline. Another report, this

brought to us by the online resources of BFRO. It's a man driving on Highway two twenty six in McDowell County, and it was around two am and he saw something dark, a creature ahead, and it had been crossing the road, was walking on two legs, and as he slowed and got.

Speaker 4

Closer to it him, it stopped.

Speaker 3

He described the creature as walking slumped over at an angle, having its arms and hands hanging down to about the knee level, and that it was had reddish brown, dark fur, and it was very stout and thick in both its upper body and its legs, six to seven feet tall. But here's where it gets interesting. When the creature looked for the headlights of the car, its eyes shone yellow. Normally with a big foot sighting at night and you have eye shine its grain or its red, but in

this case it was a yellow shade. That's very interested. Any of you that have insight on that drop it into comments. The other interesting thing about this is that this creature stopped and didn't run, and then calmly walked across the road and into a field and disappear.

Speaker 4

Now the witness is not just an ordinary witness.

Speaker 3

He was a park ranger, a retired fark ranger, and so he knows the woods, both daytime woods and nighttime woods, and he got the feeling, he got the instinct that the creature had laid down in that field to get out of the line of sight and hide. So, for all you folks that watched the live a couple Sunday nights ago, I promised you that in each of these episodes of our chronological listing of bigfoot sightings in this area, that I would give you something new bonus if you will.

August two thousand, a family of four was camping in the South Mountains on a piece of privately held land, and after dark they were roasting hot dogs over the fire. They began to hear a series of very strange noises, and the father told me that he just knew absolutely that these noises were not being made by native wildlife. First there was a series of sounds from multiple sources in the same direction of what was described as shouted chatter.

Then off to the west they started hearing clear tree knocks. Then from the direction of the shouted chatter, they heard more tree knocks. The family betted down in their tents. Mom and dad in their tent and the eight year old son and twelve year old daughter in the adjacent tent. In the wee hours of the morning, Amen, Dad were.

Speaker 4

Awakened by the kids, who were very upset.

Speaker 3

We're still talking about cryptid encounters as reported by iowaness is here in the western North Carolina Foothills region, specifically in and around the South Mountains Mountain Range area. We are up to June twenty ten, and we're going to talk about what we call the Peeler incident. Now, mister Peeler was a man that lived northwest of the town of Cajia, North Carolina, and the events of that day

made international news. A mister Peeler a man who lived a mountain man type of lifestyle, very private minded, his own business, very reclusive, didn't bother anybody. The encounter to him was so serious that he did something that not many people living the lifestyle that he lived would do, and that is to notify the police. But he did that, and there was a report to this day on file with the Cleveland County Sheriff's office, and they investigated and

they treated it very seriously. But on this particular day, he heard screeching and he heard grunning noises coming from out on his property. He went out, he saw a creature. He described this creature as extremely tall, with gray and white hair, and in places the hair was very long. The most remarkable thing about his description was that he counted six fingers on each chin, and that is not unheard of in reports of cryptis from around this country

and from around the world. But it also jives with the tales even going back to antiquity of giant beings who had six digits on each chin. Mister Peeler caught a hard time from a lot of people. He was very open with law enforcement, he was very open with the news media, and a lot of us took him seriously. That a lot of people made fun of him and shame on them. But that day, when he went out saw the creature, it appeared to him that it was

menacing his dogs. So he faced off with the creature and he picked up a stick and he yelled at it, and the creature went away without further incident. And too my knowledge, he hasn't had any more incidents. If he has, he's kept him to himself. And I don't blame, but

I believe him. Now, moving up to March twenty eleven, we're in the Cleveland Rutherford County area right there in the South Mountains at the South Mountain State Park, South Mountain Gameland, and we have a retired Navy petty officer who was the witness that day, and he also got a video of this incident. He was there in a remote area thickly wooded both sides of the road in a creature came out of a field through some briers and some bushes and crossed the road in front of him.

Speaker 4

He described the creature as.

Speaker 3

Seven feet tall, and he also was close enough, and he said, fifteen to twenty feet away that he detected a very foul odor. He said that the creature threw up his hands and snarled at him. Now he was close enough to see everything to include the genitalia of this creature, and it was a male. It had a limp. He could see clearly every part of this creature's body. It was massive, thick, and stout. But of course there was an academic whose name I won't even call, but

it was the typically arrogant response. When this academic saw the video, he said, and I'm not sure where he got this, but it was somebody that was dressed up as a creature, wearing blue jeans. Typical academic scientific response, just completely dismiss eyewitness encounters, dismiss the evidence. But I, for one, I believe the Navy beety officer what he

saw was what he said he saw. I'll also mentioned that the area that he had his sighting was an area a hotspot from my previous investigations of sightings of these creatures. Now, in June of twenty thirteen, driving late at night, a man saw a reddish brown creature standing behind a guardrail. It had very long hair, very tall. It's facial features were somewhat human like, but that it had a slight brow ridge across the top of its size.

Remarkably enough, in the same general area. Two weeks prior to this, he was fishing and he heard some noise, heard some sounds of limbs breaking, and also some woodenknocks there at the fishing part that he was at, and he heard strange house. Now he observed the creature come and jump off of about an eight foot cliff and landed in the lake, and it appeared to be thrashing around with something like it was trying to catch another animal. It was so much motion going on he couldn't quite tell.

But again, very long hair, very tall, and facial features that did not quite appear human. And it had that tail tale bridge going across the brow of its face. In October of twenty nineteen, a gentleman by the name of Joe Scarborough, an electrician and this made the newswire, was doing some work behind a home outside of Caser, North Carolina, again my hometown. And these tracks that he

found that day were thirteen to fourteen inches long. Now, they were extremely fresh, and evidently mister Scarborough's an experienced outdoorsman, experience turner, and he noticed that the small plants were embedded still lighing down in the tracks, meaning that the tracts were so fresh that those plants had not yet had a.

Speaker 4

Chance to rebound.

Speaker 3

Now, mister Scarborough went out later to cap out in the area, and I am trying to reach mister Scarborough to see what.

Speaker 4

If anything, that he experienced after that.

Speaker 3

This man, a professional who put everything on the line to come forward and tell authorities as well as the news media that he had found these tracts, and of course he took pictures off and I'm very interested to know. So, mister Scarborough, if you hear about this, reach out to me, my friend. I want to hear your entire story, and I believe every word of it and I'm interested in your experience now, as I've done in the previous two episodes.

For those of you that watched The Life where we went over all of this already, I promised you a fresh story at the end of each episode. So last week we left off with a family that was camping here in the South Mountains area.

Speaker 4

After sundown.

Speaker 3

They were doing the typical capping things that a family would do.

Speaker 4

They begin to hear noises. They begin to put it in.

Speaker 3

Their words, a shouted chatter. They couldn't make out the words because it didn't sound like England. Then they heard a clear wood knock. Now more of the odd shouted chatter sounds were heard on and off mixed with the short house. The dad plainly knew that to him, it just didn't seem like any kind of wildlife that was

native of this area. He wasn't Davy Crockett, according to his own estimation, but that he knew enough about the wildlife in western North Carolina to know what he was hearing wasn't attributable to any nold wildlife at any rate. The family betted down in their tents and mom and dad had their tent and there was eight year old son and twelve year old daughter who had their tent, and the wee hours of the morning, they were awakened by the eight year old and the twelve year old.

They were frantic and wanted to sleep in the tent. The eight year old was crying. He said that he heard monkey noises coming from outside their tent, grunning in something walking outside. He woke his sister up and she heard the sounds too, and the sounds were getting closer and closer. They didn't have the rain skirt on the top of the tent, and the twelve year old daughter peeked up and looked out toward the woods, and she saw the silhouette of what she said was a giant monster.

They woke the parents up, they got in the tent with them, and the family rode out the night in fear. The next morning they packed up and left. As I've talked about a virtually all of the episodes that I have done on my show that started in October of this past year, here in western North Carolina we have massive areas of deep wilderness that covers a variety of terrain. And here in western North Carolina life can be easily sustained from small forms all the way up the large forms.

And we know that in western North Carolina that it can definitely sustain the unknowned and the darker side of life. But Western North Carolina is not the only part of the Carolinas that is known to harbor the things that go bump in the nag. Western North Carolina is not the only area of the Carolinas where something may step out from behind a tree in the middle of the

deep woods and dead stare you. In Western North Carolina is not the only part of the Carolinas where you may find yourself traveling down a desolate stretch of road when suddenly the unknown appears out of the woodline. And crosses the road in front of you. See, the fact of the matter is there's plenty of areas in the coastal area is of North Carolina and South Carolina that

harbor cryptids. We're going to talk about many of those encounters over the coming who knows how many weeks, depending on how many stories that folks send.

Speaker 4

Me to add to what I already have. Jump in and hang on.

Speaker 3

I think that you're going to be fascinated, sometimes scared, but we're definitely going to have an enjoyable ride talking about the cryptids of eastern North Carolina and eastern South Carolina. The first experience that I'm going to share with you in this new series occurred right here Onslow County, North Carolina, and it was first cataloged by BFRO, the Big Foot Field Researchers Organization, and it takes us all the way

back to October of nineteen sixty five. Now, so many areas of the coast of Carolina's can accurately be called a sportsman's parents. But on this clear October morning in nineteen sixty five, a fifteen year old boy made a decision.

Speaker 4

He found himself in a situation.

Speaker 3

Where one minute he was in an area that could be called a paradise, only to quickly and unexpectedly transition into what we could accurately call a kid's nightmare.

Speaker 2

Stay tuned for more sasquatch out to see. Will be right back after these messages.

Speaker 3

Now, Onslough County covers about nine hundred and five square miles, plenty of wilderness, plenty of the different kinds of waterways and water features you find in eastern North Carolina, to include swamps. Oslow County is also the home to Camp La Jeune Marine Corps base. It's on Camp Lagoun where all of this occurred. Now, on that particular morning, this young fifteen year old boy decided that he was going to skip school and he was going to go explore

one of the more remote areas of Campbelagen. I'm sure he was carefree and happy, knowing the rule the worst day in the woods is better than the best day at school or at work. At least, still something like this happens now. As he wandered along, seeing the sights of nature, he decided at one point to cut through a more densely wooded area, and as he did so, shortly into that densely wooded area, he noticed something very strange. All of the sounds of nature have gone dead quiet,

total silence. Now, that's an uncomfortable feeling into people who are experienced in the woods, and I don't know if this young man was that experienced, but generally that means that an apex predator is present. But in addition to having to deal with this sudden and complete silence, he became overwashed by that very eerie feeling that he was being watched, very uncomfortable feeling, where every hair on your neck stands up, every hair or your arms stands up.

You've got this strain almost electric sensation. You don't know what direction to look at, you don't know what's happening. You just know that you're feeling very uncomfortable and very awkward. And as he stood there, he noticed the source of this uneings and at first he thought it was a deer. He saw something in the undergrowth, But as he intensely stared into this dense eastern North Carolina foliage, he quickly figured out that what he was seeing was no deer.

What he was seeing was some type of unknown creature. He said it was massive, eight to ten feet tall, covered in hair on two feet and he said, this creature was moving so quickly. The sound of this thing bullying its way through the trees in the foliage was thunderous.

He would later say that he was amazed that something that big could move that quickly, And I wonder if he didn't do some math in his head as he stood there, and that mass that I would have done would have been, if something that big can move that quick then surely it can overtake me and then do with me.

Speaker 4

As at least I would.

Speaker 3

Have been terrified, And he said later said the only thing I could do was step there, completely powerless, but just stand there and watch this thing. Finally, the sound of it crashing through the trees in the undergrowth dissipated, and it seemed to have disappeared. Now, had I been him, I would have been thinking a lot of things. Is it really gone? How far did it go? Did it stop and conceal itself? And is it gonna stop me

or follow me? Does it have plans for me? But as he was in this trance like state where all he do was just standing place in the face of this apparent danger, the sound of nature resumed and he said that kind of brought him out of it. And when he came out of it, he moved out of the area, and he moved out quickly, and it was years before he told anybody what had happened to him.

But he never returned to that area again. I will tell you about the encounter had by three young Marines in Carteret County, North Carolina, in May of nineteen seventy seven, as well as some other experiences. But the three young Marines had the type of encounter that is the type that intrigues me the most as a researcher. I'd like to say that I'm dedicating this series of episodes to my friend Houndog that lives down there on the eastern end of North Carolina. Been a great friend to me.

I appreciate all of you, and I will see you next time.
