Wellcomereverby to a very special Wednesday edition of the San Antonio Spurs Weekly Podcast. Of course, your boys have got the week off, flying to Perlis, getting ready for the French Flies, French toasts, and I know there's other delic testings over there. I just don't know pastries. Sorry, wenby we we That's usually what the beer makes me do over there. But they're heading none over there, getting ready

for their big game Saturday morning. It will be on the fan Dual Sports Network, and I believe it's going to be broadcasted on other locations, so make sure you check your local listings for that as well. Game one of two games against the Pacers coming up in Perrie, so getting ready for that. Hopefully a little bit of home cooking for Victor will do him some good time off for the Spurs as well getting ready for the

second half of the season. So are we. But today we want to talk about that something happening today today, Wednesday. There's a big I don't know if you've heard about this, a big auction that's going online today.

A few weeks ago, after the Spurs win against the Brooklyn Nets, Victor wembin Yama noticed a young fan holding up a sign that said, Victor Wenbinyama, will you swap jerseys with me? And so Wemby took off his game warrn Jersey and decided to take the time to swap

jerseys with that young fan. But with that being said, today Victor wembin Yama noticed on social media that that same game warn jersey he swapped with that young fan was being sold online and up for auction with the starting bid of ten thousand dollars.

Speaker 1

Boo boo. That's happening right now today on eBay. That man is selling that jersey for ten thousand dollars. Victor wembin Yama has been doing this all year long. He actually picked up the idea from Chris Paul. Chris Paul does it a lot. It's a great way to really get Victor out there, you know, get fans to like him, get Victor to be in the eyes of the public. Because if you're already going to be labeled the face of the NBA, of course you're going to go out there,

sign a few autographs, take a few pictures. I mean, even Sean Elliott says that when Victor takes a picture with somebody's phone, it's hilarious. He goes, go, go, gadget arms first and foremost, but he goes He's got a built in selfie stick. He literally does with those long arms, right, So you're getting something very personalized from possibly one of the greatest of all time. To do it eventually, I'm not saying right now, calm down, lebron fans, Okay, calm down,

MJ fans. I was an MJ fan. I'm just saying, maybe eventually to do it. The interesting thing is, in this whole situation, what would you do, Spurs fans? What would you do in that situation? And what I mean by that is do you need the money? Does your family need the money? I could understand if let's say that something happened to the family's home kind of like JJ Reddick. We talked about this last week on the show.

JJ Reddick and his kids used to get autographs all the time because JJ had a podcast and those said players would come into the podcast sign things for his kids. They lost everything. I could see if the father was gonna sell it to help the family, and maybe he is selling it to help the family. But if it's a personalized jersey, if it says too young so and so from Victor Wembinyama, you're selling now a memory that

was supposed to be so good for your child. Now it's going to turn into public reticule for the rest of your life for ten thousand dollars. And the other sad thing is it more sad that he's selling the jersey or the fact that somebody out there will buy it. This is absolutely pathetic and the reason why people hate sports. This is why people hate fans, because you're not a fan.

You are not a fan first and foremost. You have the opportunity to get courtside with your son close enough to a possible legend, and you go ahead and do something like this absolutely crass. I have two boys that love sitting all the way in the upper deck for fifteen dollars seats just to get a glimpse of the San Antonio Spurs, and you're down there selling it for ten grand. Something tells me that you probably had seats close enough. You paid maybe five hundred dollars, one thousand dollars.

Maybe you're saying, well, the seats were given to me. Okay, that's fine, But guess what, I'm pretty sure if you had enough money to go to that game and sit in that area, you have enough money to go bit

on your own auction. Spurs fans, if you're a real Spurs fan, and I am, if you've listened to this podcast, I have been a fan of the San Antonio Spurs on my fortieth year, forty years since the age of I'm not going to tell you because I'm too old now, since the age of eight, I've stayed with this team through thick and thin, no matter what the record, wins, twenty one wins, big number one draft picks, partial pet draft picks. I've been through it all, and there's people

that have been fans longer than I have. I remember the Hemisphere Arena days, I remember Frank Perkowski, Larry Christobiak, Alvin Robinson, Johnny Moore. Some of you guys can even go further than that, right, artist Gilmour. I remember Big a train ed Neely, Greg Cadillac Anderson, Willie Anderson, Antonio Daniels. But you have somebody like this. What more sickening about this situation is we're not going to stay long on the subject is a fast break report. But what's more

sickening about it is this. You created a memory with your kid. Oh, I got the picture. I can't wait till you post it on the wall and your kid one day goes, where's that Jersey? Dad? That's what I can't wait for. I can't wait for it. I have a son that met John Cena when he was younger. Loved John Cena from the WWE. I remember we got to sit in line to wait for him before an event and there were so many people that John allowed everybody to get through to meet him. This was early

in his career too. My son had a John Cena action figure that he signed, not a box. He had an open figure that was beat up because he played with it and John signed it and he looked at it and he goes, you play with us a lot, humbody and my son was like yes, and he looked at me. He goes, that's a good dad. I go, yeah, it's not no box like half these people in line. And he giggled. And see I remember those moments and so does my son. But guess what he lost that figure?

And I know he asked me, I remember that picture I took with John you still have it? I remember had the autograph figure too. He remembers the moment. So imagine this little boy remembering the moment because it's now captured on podcasts, YouTube, Well not so much TikTok anymore, but you know what I mean, Instagram, all the news circuits here in San Antonio. I think it's more embarrassing than anything for the kid. I know he's young and

maybe he won't grow up that way. But as a father that takes his kids to probably ten games a year, costs US two hundred bucks a night, it's two thousand dollars a year, you're here selling a jersey for ten thousand dollars. My thing is, Spurs fans, don't go out there and go and bid on this item. Don't do it, but you're gonna have some jackass that's not from San Antonio go out thing and he's gonna pay a high extravagant amount when you probably could get courtside and do it.

The other sad part of this is, and we're gonna end with this, not just what the father did as a father. What oh what a M trying to keep my Christian morals here, if you know what I mean. I'm trying to got my Jesus statue right in front of me, and just I gotta take a breath because I'm a dad who puts his kids first and everything

I do, and listen, maybe I'm jumping the gun. Maybe something's going on in their life where he has to sell that thing, But don't make Victor personalize it, or any athlete personalize it in your kid's name and then all of a sudden, go sell it. I don't even care if the kid's name is not on it. It's the moment. Those are precious moments. It was a cool picture.

The kid came up to probably his thigh and they swap jerseys and j that wen be Yama got was so small, and Victor is such a cool dude that I guarantee you he has that little boy's jersey, and I wouldn't put it past Victor to do something for that little boy, sign that jersey. This is what I do, Victor. If you're out there listening, and I know you listen to the show, because you step up when we give you that proverbial fire, you know, this is what I

would do, Victor. I'd sign that jersey that he gave you. I would put it in a glass box with laser beams all right, kind of like Inspector Gadget style mission impossible, all right, where the father has to do some flippity dippity ruse round it all right and get through it now. I would get him something nice. I would also do that one more time for him, and I would put something in writing saying it cannot be sold. Cannot be sold unless that kid turns twenty one and he wants

to do something with it. Don't allow the father to sell it. What a I can't again, I can't judge. I can't Usa Usa whosa, ma'am man oh man. What an interesting turn of events with that jersey spurs fans. What do you think you would do in that situation? I mean, I'm pretty sure if say this guy came out on TV and said, Listen, the reason why I did it my family lost everything in a fire or a flood, or you know, we have an operation, my wife or my cousin or this and that. I guarantee

you Wemby in them wouldn't mind that? And again, fathers, what are you thinking out there in the world? Something that makes you go hmm. As a matter of fact, hopefully you guys enjoyed that little bit of a Wembin Yama. Watch and let's watch some jackass go buy that jersey. Yeah, yeah, my name is so and so that's my jersey. No you didn't. You bought it for thirty thousand dollars and you took the dreams of some kids dreams and whipped

him out of his heart and soul. Hey, congratulations. Who's worse than this, Spurs fans, the dad, the person that's gonna end up buying this jersey?
