Today we are focusing on job search because so many of you have reached out and said 2024 was a tough market and then the job trends report came out and 2025 sounds like it's going to be lukewarm. But I don't want you to lose hope yet because I do think there are going to be opportunities for anybody who's playing the bigger game and going after the jobs that will help big companies solve big problems. Securing a big salary should be as easy as asking for more, right?
Turns out, it's a little bit more than that. First, let me ask you, which of these apply to you? Reading org announcements with envy as other people get promoted? Working long hours with little to show for it? Getting more degrees hoping to be seen? Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake myself without even realizing it. And it's not your fault.
In this podcast, I'm going to help you master the strategy and techniques on how to get promoted, how to double your paycheck and how to secure more flexibility without adding more work or more degrees. You are listening to salary negotiations mates, the show that builds your confidence and inspires you to negotiate for the career you deserve. Do you want to double your salary?
Secure an ideal career and increase your confidence to powerfully negotiate every career move and you are in exactly the right place. Well, Happy New Year everyone. Welcome to Salary Negotiations Made Simple in 2025. Hope everyone had a great holiday month and you are rested and ready to take on 2025. If you're ready, let's dive in.
Let's get started with what some of you are saying online, and these are exact quotes where people are posting, or commenting, or direct messaging me, and here are a few. I have applied to hundreds of jobs, but I'm not getting any responses. Why do I keep getting ghosted after interviews? I don't understand why less qualified people can get hired before me. Everything is automated now, I don't even know if a human sees my application. Networking feels awkward and uncomfortable.
And I'm not sure how to do it effectively. I really don't know what these recruiters are looking for. If you're listening to this and nodding your head or you've said something along these lines, then please know that you're not alone. I've heard this from hundreds of candidates and this is a sign that the job market is rapidly changing. The way hiring decisions are made have undergone a huge shift, but that doesn't mean the jobs are not out there.
In the past, it was relatively easy to get noticed, get attention, reach out to one or two colleagues from previous lives, and get the job. But that is no longer the case. You can blame it on low attention spans. You can blame it on recruiters and hiring managers being overwhelmed, doing more with less. Uh, it could even be that using AI has changed the way hiring is being made.
Regardless of what the reasons are, We know we have to change the way we are hunting for jobs because the recruitment industry has completely changed. Let me start with what is working for my clients. That will get us started on the right foot. My clients have seen significant success when they reach out to their second and third degree connections. Interestingly, when you reach out to your first degree connection, it seems intuitive that they will be more prone to give you referrals.
But the challenge is that you and them are probably in the same network of opportunities. But if you go to the second and third or fourth, like the distant connections, there are newer opportunities that can come your way. The point here is when you're networking, the networking needs to be to your second, third, or your distant connections, not just your first degree connections. Next, and this is the most powerful tool in 2025 in job searching.
The one that you need to laser focus on is building memorability. That is the key to success in the job market in 2025 and beyond. And what does that mean? It's a nuance to the networking formula. It's really about not who you know, but what they remember about you. Now think about that for a second. People are very busy. We have way too much on our minds and we are overwhelmed.
So just meeting somebody, liking someone's post once or saying that I'm open for job opportunities on one post is not likely to make you memorable. So, the focus and the strategy needs to be, what problem do you solve? You have to answer that. And second, how do I solve this problem for this individual who is in a position to give me the job? And for this, you need to have an intention, a plan, and you need to execute that plan day after day. Taking one step after another.
I will give you five elements that you need in order to be memorable. First, a clear personal brand. What problem do you solve? Maybe you are great at turning around underperforming teams. Maybe you're great at generating revenue in new markets. Second, specific impactful stories. For example, when I joined my previous company, we were losing a million dollars in supply chain inefficiencies. I redesigned the procurement processes and reduced losses by X percent within three months.
Third, tailoring your value proposition to what the company is trying to solve. For example, your company's expansion into APAC markets aligns with my mar with my expertise in leading successful market entries. So you're aligning what you're going to do to what they're trying to solve. Fourth, using an anchor, such as a repeated phrase, such as a signature statement, like I am the GPS for my organization, or I always get us to our destination.
Pick something that doesn't sound awkward or corny for you, and then use it several times during the conversation. So that becomes associated with your brand. Number five, offering assistance. So if your hiring manager discusses a problem or a challenge that they're having problem solving, offer to help with a previous war product or an outline of an idea that invokes the influence principle of reciprocity and it's always helpful to make you memorable.
There you have it, the five elements of being memorable. Once again, they are a clear personal brand, specific stories, tailoring your value proposition, creating a memorable anchor, and then reciprocity. This is the framework that has gotten my clients jobs after they were trying it on their own. But applying this strategy has gotten results in less than 90 days. I promise you this strategy works. In order to help you get started. I have included a free checklist. In the show notes.
It's the networking check checklist for high achieving women. And it contains step by step formulas. In order to help you land interviews and offers by networking strategically. Now, remember, the tool is not just about networking or having 200, 000 people in your follower count. The tool is about becoming memorable. And remember, you don't have to wait till the interview to use those elements of memorability.
Every encounter, every coffee chat or meeting in a forum or networking event, you can use those elements to make sure that people remember you. It's no longer about who you know, it's really about what they remember about what you do and how you help. That is the simple and yet most effective way of landing jobs that will pay upwards of 200, 000 to 300, 000 in compensation.
I promise you, regardless of what the trends reports are saying, Companies are always going to need problem solvers because problems are not going away anytime soon. The key is to position yourself as the person who can solve that problem.
