Today's episode is going to be short and sweet, but I'm hoping to give you great nuggets on how to use ChatGPT to get you the career that you desire. Let's talk about whether or not to customize your resume to the jobs that you're applying.
Let me make sure that the debate about whether or not to customize a resume to the jobs that you're applying is put to rest. In a difficult job market where many employers are being very careful about how they are hiring, making sure that their P& Ls continue to remain strong, you need to customize your resume. That's the long and short of it. However, to do that is very, very time consuming, which is why we are talking today about and I'm going to help you to get this done really fast.
The good news is before AI, while this used to be a very time consuming process, now with the help of AI, we can cut down the time to literally a minute or under. For example, if I wanted to be a vice president of marketing, I would have to look at vice president of marketing from different job postings and go through line by line what the different themes, expectations and credentials are for most job postings.
Then what I would do is look at the common things, things like revenue growth, customer engagement, uh, KOL development, market analysis. These are some of the things that I would pick up from different job descriptions and look at my own journey, fix my resume to target those themes or target those, um, points within a job description. I can tell you that that has been improved with the access to AI and how does that work? So let me give you an example.
So staying with the idea of going after a VP of marketing role, what you can do today is open up chat GPT and then open up a Word document. Now, you go to different job postings, it doesn't matter whether you pick Indeed or LinkedIn or Glassdoor, uh, look for job postings with that title, a vice president of marketing or senior, senior director of marketing, and then copy over some of the, uh, the meat and potatoes of that job description, descriptions.
It could be, uh, you don't have to take on, like, the preferred qualifications and require just the, the, the most important part, the, the, the middle part, usually, in the job descriptions. So copy over three to five descriptions on Word. Then, in ChatGPT, say, in a minute, ChatGPT, I'm going to give you three or five, whatever the number of job descriptions you've copied over, uh, I'm going to give you these five, five descriptions. Please review them.
And then give me the common themes that come up in each of these job descriptions. And use this prompt and I'm going to put the prompt in the notes so you can feel free to copy them in the show notes and feel free to copy them and use that, uh, to, to get chat GPT to give you those themes. And it's almost like magic. It is so fun to see it because what used to take painstaking effort now can be at your fingertips within minutes. Less than a minute.
Then once you have those themes, what I refer to them are these, uh, the, the core of the job that each of these companies wants to do. And usually when job descriptions are generic, like, uh, marketing, uh, vice president of marketing, you will see some common themes. And then once you have those themes, you can start up leveling your resume to make sure that those words are resonated within your resume.

Either way, you need you want to make sure that your resume tells the story of how you've mastered those core skills.
