Turns out, it's a little bit more than that. First, let me ask you, which of these apply to you? Reading Org Announcements with Envy as other people get promoted.

Working long hours with little to show for it. Getting more degrees, hoping to be seen. Don't feel bad. I made the same mistake myself without even realizing it. And it's not your fault. In this podcast, I'm going to help you master the strategy and techniques on how to get promoted, how to double your paycheck, and how to secure more flexibility without adding more work or more degrees.

You are listening to Salary Negotiations Made Simple, the show that builds your confidence and inspires you to negotiate for the career you deserve. Do you want to Double your salary, secure an ideal career, and increase your confidence to powerfully negotiate every career move, then you are in exactly the right place. Today's episode is focused on best steps to prepare for a senior level job interview. Ready? Let's dive in.

Step one, answer the question, what are the company's biggest challenges and how does this role fit into its strategic goals? This is about going beyond the website of the company. Look at the earnings reports, look at investor presentations, news articles, and what is the company touting on their social media pages. Those are the things that you need to glean from all of this information and weave into the stories you're going to share during the interview.

For example, if you find out that the company is focusing on expanding into new markets, You can say, in my previous role, I expanded into Asia Pacific areas. Which increased revenue as well as pull through opportunities for additional products. Step two, ask the question. How can I align my experience with the company's needs and demonstrate my impact to the things that the company cares about? At any given time, you're doing a lot of different things.

You're writing reports, you're sending emails, you're attending meetings. But really that is not what the company is measuring. The company is measuring something that has to do with either revenue, cost, gaining new customers, keeping existing customers happy, creating engagement among teams, making sure all of the regulatory policies are adhered to. And ensuring that processes continue to remain efficient as growth occurs.

Your goal is to connect the work that you're going to be doing to one of these dimensions. I summarized these eight dimensions into the formula recharge, revenue generation, enhanced brand awareness, customer captivation, happy clients. accelerated growth, radiant workforce, genius processes, and efficiencies. Step number three, what questions should I prepare for and how can I use a storytelling framework to structure my responses?

It's always great to get a list of all the questions that you anticipate for the role and write down the stories that you're going to be using, which will be most impactful. I have a fantastic tool on my website that I'm going to link in the show notes. Feel free to grab it. It's going to help you prepare like a top notch candidate who's ready for their next role. Step number four is clear and concise communication.

I have prepared hundreds of candidates now for interviews, and the most common challenge is brevity. You have roughly five seconds to capture your listeners attention. So it's really important to practice your answers so you can be brief, succinct, and to the point. I always recommend that you use your camera on your phone to record yourself. Take some time to review yourself speaking and make tweaks accordingly.

It's going to be difficult the first few times you do it, but I promise you, the dividends are massive. Step number five, be prepared to answer salary negotiation questions. There are no rules as to when the employer can ask you about your salary expectations. So at any given time, you must know your market value. When asked for a range, you can always deflect it for a later time saying, let me understand a little bit more about the roles and expectations of this role.

And then I can give you a more educated range. If you're pressed further, however, you will be required to give a range. Step number six, be prepared with insightful questions that you can ask during the interview. We will get right back to the episode. In the meantime If you're listening to this podcast episode, chances are you are ready to make the next move in your career. If this is you, I can help book a discovery call with me to understand how I can accelerate your career.

You get 30 minutes of one on one time to understand how I can get you to your goals in less than 90 days. One of my most influential leaders that I had the fortune to work for once said that in any negotiation or interview, you must assume the sale. What does this mean? At the end of the interview, you need to speak in a way that shows you already are 80 percent in the role. And the questions then you ask are, What are the struggles I'm going to have when I first start in this role?

Or what is keeping you up at night that I can come in and solve for you? What are the biggest challenges that I can anticipate and be ready for before I start this role? These are all questions that assume you have sold your services and you are now thinking about next steps. This shows confidence as well as a thoughtful approach to how you're going to solve problems for this company.

When you're getting ready for a senior level role, it is always important to be strategic and give yourself lots of time to prepare in advance. Preparation will give you the opportunity to present yourself as the best candidate who can hit the ground running. Bonus tip for those who are negotiating your salary or compensation, whether you're negotiating an offer or a raise, remember, the key is to anchor high, back it up with data and present it confidently.

Okay, so let's summarize what we learned today. First is you have to research the company's challenges. Second, you've got to align your experience with the company's needs. Third, write down stories relevant to the questions that you anticipate that you can whip up on a moment's notice. Fourth, practice so much that your communication is brief and to the point. Step five, be prepared to address questions regarding compensation and desired salary range. And five, develop smart questions to ask.

That you're already thinking about next steps and how you can impact the role and the organization from day one. If this episode was helpful, don't forget to follow and leave a review. It helps more high achieving women like you get the strategies they need to own their careers. Thanks for listening and bye for now. There you have it, my friends.
