The Bible says, Six days shall thou labor and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. In it, thou shalt not do any work. In other words, according to Scripture, we are to work six days and rest on the seventh. Six days of work, one day of rest. But do you realize that the Bible requires us to rest seven days a week? How? By total trust in God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11, 28, Come unto me, all ye that labor, and a heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
This rest is intended to function or to be experienced seven days a week. A person does not occasionally take a rest from trusting in God. When we do that, we encounter anxiety and worry and uncertainty. But we are to rest in God seven days a week, 24 hours a day. In Hebrews 11, we have the account of all those mighty men and women who by faith did one thing or the other. Then in Hebrews 12, reading from verse 1, wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about, with so great a cloud of witnesses.
Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us. What is the sin that doth so easily beset us? If you connect Hebrews 12 to Hebrews 11, because the Bible was not written in chapters and verses, it becomes evident that the sin which so easily beset us is a lack of faith in God. The very quality highlighted in 11 is referred to for those who do not trust God as the sin which doth so easily beset us.
My listening friend, we have to learn, and we learn through Scripture, to trust God absolutely. But in trusting God, who are we trusting? We are trusting first the Creator. Because He knows how to take care of and sustain that which He has created. And every converted person is a work of creation. Let me say that again. Every converted person is a work of creation. And the principle by which God functions is simply this. That which He creates, He sustains.
And He sustains 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And we are called upon by the Bible to believe that God will sustain us. Take care of us and protect us. We are to rest seven days a week. Not from physical labor, but rest in the sense of total trust in God. Babies do not worry. Little children do not worry. Worry becomes a reality in our lives as we grow older and older. My friend, we are to be children with God, trusting God totally, completely without reservation.
This is rest is seven days a week. But it is based on the fact that the Creator takes care of what He creates. And every converted person is a work of creation. As you keep the Sabbath holy, remember the cure to your worry, your anxiety is not necessarily medication. It is total trust in God based on the fact that He,the Creator of heaven and earth is able, willing to take care of that which He creates. That is you.
May the Lord bless you super abundantly as you rest not only on the Sabbath, but every day of the week in God's ability, to care for you. Happy Sabbath and God bless you.
