Episode description

Monday 23 May is World Turtle Day, an initiative honouring the extraordinary species of turtles and tortoises globally.

Many species around the world are threatened with extinction; the freshwater turtles of the Lower Murray are no exception.

Professor Mike Thompson joins Jennie Lenman to discuss the fascinating species and how locals can help ensure the future of the species, with the 1 Million Turtles Community Conservation Program and the National Nest Predation Experiment at Paiwalla Wetlands, 15km north of Murray Bridge.

Contact Sylvia Clarke (via email sylvia.clarke@sa.gov.au) if you are keen to get involved in the Paiwalla Wetlands experiment, or to find out more about the 1 Million Turtles program, click on this link.
