The Oxford Dictionary defines 'Privilege' as - 'A special right, advantage or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group.'Where now live in a society where this word; PRIVILEGE; can be seen as a 'dirty' word. A word that either invokes bitterness, hostility and maybe rage OR brings about guilt, shame which can lead to feeling hopeless. If we were to be honest, we don't really have an issue with the word PRIVILEGE itself, but rather the adjectives we put in front of this noun. Adjectives like - Male, Educational, Black Middle Class and dare we say it, White. How do we navigate through these landmines; how do we have meaningful conversations that will build understanding which leads to unity, instead of leave us more confused and tear us further apart? And then lastly; does the Church have a say on this matter? These are some of the questions we will be wrestling through together, so JOIN US at the this Lekgotla as we seek to answer the question - IS 'PRIVILEGE' A DIRTY WORD?
