All right, let's go Fred Rogan Rodney Pete on five seventy LA Sports Big three hour Show Today. Everybody exhale, It's okay, he's not overpaid, he's still can hit the ball. He's still the person you thought he would be. Otani finally hit a home run. Now, let's be abundantly fair about this. If you look around Major League Baseball, there are a number of people who have not yet hit one home run. So no, he wasn't the first to do it, nor the second. But now he's hit
one. Is everybody okay? Can we all take it easy? Now he finally hit a home run, And it's funny we even have to say that. You know, if Tiascar Hernandez hits a home run, everybody celebrates. But now with Otani, it's like, oh my god, he finally did it. Oh, now we're okay, you know, you know what we should get that way, if Austin Barnes hits home run, then everybody goes, oh my god, it goes crazy. Right, wow, Okay, it's Otani. He finally hit one. Everybody that was at the game last
night got to see it. Everybody that was listening got to hear it. If you were watching on TV, you got to witness it. He hit a home run at Dodger Stadium, Rodney. Are we good now? Well, you know, Fred, you and I have been good. Even with your panic meter at you know, at the front of your pocket, you were still good with this. Come on, we're we're nine games in and
people were going crazy that he hadn't hit a home run. I mean, I know, I get it. He hit forty four last year and watching him from Afar, that's all we saw his highlights of him hitting blast at you know, to all fields, left field, right field, center field, everywhere you could think of. He was hitting home runs and that's what we expected right out of the gate from him when he's wearing a Dodger uniform. It doesn't always work that way. Every season is different, and so
people needed to relax. But I think they expects are so high with him that, you know, people are a little unrealistic. But it's a long season. There will be many, many more of those to come. He checked that off the box, and so you know what the question is, what's going to be the next thing that people start panicking about. Oh, the next thing will be he hasn't had another one yet. Yeah, I mean people are probably going to be shocked that he didn't hit one today and
they didn't even play. That's true. You know, why is any one today? Well they're not even playing. Yeah, yeah, that's true, that's true. And then they got you know, they're doing all the comparisons. Oh, Maggie, Rohaus has got more home runs than Otai. Really, really that what we're doing. Nine ten games in, we're doing that. Oh, why isn't he at home runs? Like you know, Mookie's off to a great start. Why can't Otti be off to a great start? Come on, guys, come on, Freddy, come on, come
on. By the way, Otani said afterwards, he was relieved. He was probably pressing a little bit as well. He was probably in his own way. And only Vic knows the mind of Otani son. And by the way, we can't ask Ipe because I'll bet you he's got other things to do. Oh, Fredd, you had to do it, didn't you too soon? Had to do it? Didn't you too soon? Yeah? Okay, yeah, fred Right, But yeah, the point is this, Uh,
he's fine. He hit a home run now and I was reading that, you know, it's not like Dodger Stadium when he has played there has been a home run haven for him. Let's see what he does against the Cubs on the road. Let's find out. Now, you know, to hit it out of Dodger Stadium, that's got to be a pretty good poke.
And that just wasn't a place he hit a lot of home runs when he was playing for the Angels. All right, now they're on the road and we'll see what happens as they head off to Chicago to uh square off with the sort of rebuilding Cubs. Interesting last night, Tyler glassnan out, okay, went and then kind of ran out of gas. He gets the win. Uh, Now are we going to do that to Freddy? Well, let me just stop you right there. I'm gonna say that. Well,
we're gonna say he ran out of gas or it just happened. You know, he got to the sixth, seventh and any third time through the lineup. I know the lot's been made of that, and we'll talk about that. We are going to talk about that right now. But man, can't it just be that, you know, a couple of people got some hits off him, or it's just you know, it happened that certain that sort of way in the in the in the flow of the game, it
happened to be an innying that guys got hits off him. Do we have to say the man ran out of gas or or see we told you it was that the reason was this sports and baseball in particular, so fluid and so unpredictable that there is no one reason why, There is no pinpoint reason why, but we always want to do it, Freddie, And I don't like it, Freddy, I don't No, I don't want to upset you, but I think it's a statement of fact that he struggled his third time
through the order last night. Here's what's interesting, And maybe he has said it in the past, because thank god, David Vassi's not listening or he starts screaming at me if in fact he'd already said this and I didn't pick up on it or hear it on Dodger Talk. But Dave Roberts did say
the plan is for starters to record twenty three to twenty four outs. Now I just counted innings and pitches, but the plan is twenty three to twenty four outs, meaning they would face the lineup three times analytically, that's what they're trying to do. The starter gets twenty three or twenty four outs and then he's out and then we'll go to the bullpen. So that's the Dodger
thinking. And we have found over the years that the third time through the lineup, if you're gonna get got that's oftentimes when they get you third time to the lineup, they've seen you twice, they've seen your stuff. Maybe maybe this is the time they're gonna start picking on you. So you don't like the fact that he ran out of gas or he struggled a third time through the lineup. And by the way, this is this is very different than the old days when give me the ball, let me go. Yeah,
no, those days are over. You very free. Well, I don't even know if you're gonna ever see it again. Where you know, there's an argument at the mound where a picture is telling the manager, no, I ain't coming out, No, no, let me in here. I mean I got more, I got more. It has been talked about, it has been reviewed, it has been studied, and then talked about again before the game starts that this is our plan. So when I come out there in the sixth or the seventh any Don't you dare argue with me,
Fred, Don't you dare? Because this is the way it is. We're not going in this particular scenario. We're not gonna go with our gut. We're gonna let you know that you're at ninety seven pitches and top of the lineups coming up for the third time, so we gonna we're gonna take you out. There's no argument there. We're not gonna do it. We're not gonna sit there and debate this. Let's go get out of here, tell your story walking. No, So those days are Those days are over.
But I will say that it's just not a exact science when you when when somebody gets hit in the sixth or seventh inning, because guys get hitting the first inning, that guys get hit all over the place in the third inning. And I know, look, I know, analytics play a big role in baseball in all sports nowadays. And and you say, and you gotta trust it, and you gotta you gotta believe what it says, and more often than not, it does point to the direction that third times through
the lineup usually is when a pitcher gets starts to maybe unravel. I get it, I get it, but that is not always the case. Can I read you? You know now, Rodney? No, this is good, okay, because I don't get this very often. Okay, somebody slid into my d ms. Oh like when they slide you like that, somebody slid in You know, for those of us at a certain age, it's kind of exciting when somebody slides in the DM. You're not listening, are you, Holly? It kind of wasn't to make your week, is who
it was? Oh no, let's not read. I think she's alive, but I think she's probably really hunchback at this point. God, don't you think that'd be interesting to see her chasing her chasing you around a tree? Fred, with her hunchback? Well, you remember when she chased me around? I remember you telling the story about that. Yeah, she chased me around the trail on an Emmy for that story. Yeah, we did it in Johnny Carson Park. But now I don't know. I mean, she
may need some uh after you. Oh, Fred, she got me run around that tree? Hey, Fred, tell the truth, man, Yeah, you let her catch you a little bit, You let her catch you? Well, yeah, I was getting windy. She gives the best hugs. I mean, how much do you think I could run? For God's sakes, I'm not a machine, Rodney, I'm not a professional athlete like you. Will get it. No, I get it, I get it. Yeah, you know she was she was trained. He was a trained
professional. She knew how to go get him. Yeah. Yeah, God, Samina is incredible. I get it. It's actually remarkable now. And you know, if you don't know who morgana is, you can look her up. The more I think about it, it is remarkable she could even run given what she was kidding. Why are you saying that, Fred, what do you mean? I mean, my God, given her physical nature. Yes, yeah, and she'd run. She have her arms real low next to her, and she'd be bouncing after you bounce. She'd bounce after
you. Oh well, yeah, I would say a portion of her run would be considered bouncy. Yes, I would consider that. Yes. Anyway, she was not the one that slid in. Uh. This was a guy that slid in. Oh, I'm not going to use his name. I think he listens to the show and that's fine. I just find this interesting. The Dodgers are what's wrong? With society. The love of money is all that matters. And I'm better than you because I have more.
The Dodgers are what's wrong with society because they have all the money. All right, Let's look at it like this, and I appreciate you contributing to the program I do. Let's look at it like this. I've said this a billion times. Dodgers are what's wrong with society. Yeah, because they have all the money. It's not how much money you have, it's how you spend your money. That's number one. The Tampa Bay Rays do not spend a lot of money, and they're always there. The Arizona Diamondbacks last
year knock the Dodgers out. They don't spend a lot of money, and they're right there. Because you spend a lot of money, sure, it can give you advantages, but then again, you could spend it poorly. Arty Moreno spends a lot of money. Not this year, but in past year spent a lot of money. Are the Angels what's wrong with baseball? Because Arty Morenos spent a lot of money? The Red Sox not this year, but the Phillies, for example, one of the top pay rolls in
baseball. Are they what's wrong with society because they are spending a lot of money. No, they're trying to build a competitive team, a team that will be in the conversation. Understand, money is a big deal. The more we have, the better we live, the more problems we can have as well. It's not a utopia. And if you don't have a lot of money, you think I'm wrong. I don't have a lot of money, but I know I'm right. It does not equate complete and total happiness.
I would argue that the Dodgers are what's right, not what's wrong. I would suggest that by implementing a plan and following a system, creating a blueprint, building a team, trying to compete, servicing your fan base, that's the way businesses should operate. We're going to do our very best for you because ultimately we're in the hospitality business. We welcome you to the stadium, we want to give you options, we want you to enjoy your night
out. We want you to root for this team, and we are going to in turn give you a team to root for. What if all businesses operated that way, where they really looked at it like the most important person was the customer. You We will do everything we can to give you the very best experience. Businesses don't usually operate that way, but the Dodgers do. And yes they spend a lot of money, but there are results and they are tangible, and you are caught up and swept up in their season.
And if they lose, your upsetting that they win, you're happy, but you're engaged, and you're engaged because they give you a product to be engaged about. So I don't think the Dodgers are what's wrong with society. I think if more people, no matter how much money they had, followed the Dodgers model, society would be better. What do you else, said? Fred Well said? Well said, that is the train of fought with most people. Is the Dodgers just spend so much money. They got so
much money. That's why they're you know, you always talk about conversation. They're in the playoffs every year because they spend so much money. That's why they got all the money to spend. No, it is how you spend it. You're absolutely right spending it correctly. Now we're gonna get into the Angels here in a minute. But yes, they're a team that's spent and people that say, already, Marina doesn't spend money. You don't know what
you're talking about. Oh, he spends. He spends an incredible amount of money and has, but he doesn't spend it wisely, and there's a huge difference. So just to put the Dodgers in that box like that, and because that suggests that they don't have smart people working in the front office that are running the show. From Mark Walters on down Andrew Friedman on downstandcast and
you know, Dave Roberts, they don't know what they're doing. That's what you're suggesting, is that anybody can sit in that role, spend money and win a championship. No, No, it doesn't work that way. When they signed Otani, let me button it up with this, When they signed Otani and spent seven hundred million dollars on him and everybody freaked out. You understand that was a business decision, right, They just weren't going, here's
seven hundred million dollars. That's a business decision. And do you know, by the end of it, they probably make money paying him seven hundred million dollars. Lets you on a secret, they already are right a lot of it. They're making a lot of money. That's a business decision. Not well, I'll just give you seven hundred million dollars go for it. No, they made a calculated business decision. In the process of making that decision, you the fan get excited, You the fan want to go to more
games. But it's a business. Are they going to up preticket price? It's a bit sure they are, but they're going to do that every year, it doesn't matter. Every team is going to do it. Are they going to have tiered pricing for certain games? Yes, they are, of course they are. Every team does that. It is a business, and they operate their business very well. And if other businesses operated in the same way they do, they would probably have more money. Tell you, the
Lakers are operating pretty well right now. Wrapped up that six game road trip five and one are insider Dan Wyki will join us next. Come on, come on, Fred and Madawn my walk in Gane and madown my bag. Oh yeah, it's a throwback Thursday. Come on, y'all, come out right to beat Fred Rogan. Let's ride it out. I like it all right. So the Lakers have wrapped things up and they're back in town. That means our buddy, Dan Wiki should be back as well. And Dan,
good afternoon. You what do you mean like like the rubber band man. I just take care of what I need to take care of. Guys, I'm back. You did Okay, that's a referend to that song, Rodney, I know that song? Are you probably? That's a good one and the bottom my head, it's a good throwback Thursday. Yeah. I know you're twenty years younger than me, Danny, but uh yeah, it was a big hit back then. I will tell you. I'm I assure you I feel physically thirty years older after this trip. So New York.
It was a rough one. It was a long one, a rough one that ended in five and one. Dan, Yeah, how about that? Huh? How impressed were you? Is it a big deal or is it just? Uh? They should have been five and one. They should probably four and two. You know, I think I had kind of misproclaimed that they would be favorites in five of the games. They were favorites in four.
They were underdogs in Indiana. But but I think, you know, they were pretty professional, kind of did what a good basketball team does. It's not easy to go on the road in this league. You know, it's definitely not easy to win on the road when you don't have all your players, and that win in Milwaukee was a real statement win. I think Anthony Davis a dominant performance, Austin Reeves a really really strong game, and then kind of from there, you know, they just sort of took care
of business. And I think that's what I'm most impressed by with this team right now, is that it has a real identity, right Like, I mean, they can score the basketball, guys. You know, the game they lost in this trip in Indiana was just a dreadful shooting night, which is an anomaly. That's not who they've been for the last twenty five games, thirty games, right Like, they've been one of the best offenses in the league, and that's what they look like most Knights. And it wasn't
always pretty. There was definitely things that need to be cleaned up. It got a little dicey at the end in DC last night. But you know, I look, did you feel, like Dan, did you feel at any point last night in that game that they were going to lose A yeah? Yeah, I mean I think there was a possession midway through the fourth quarter where they were up to they'd kind of squandered their lead. The Wizard zone defense was just kind of like, I mean, I don't know what
happened. Like I think the best I can describe this guy sometimes when they're on these long road trips is like you're feeling good, like you've got a good energy, and then like you walk into a building, you're like, I've got to go home, Like something just hits you, and you're like your brain just turns off, like you get you just get so road weary.
It's hard to really explain, but it's like, I mean, it's this is like the kind of trip guys where I had to take pictures of my hotel room number because I couldn't remember which like where I was, you know what I mean. It's like so you're just everything blurs and like all of a sudden, like they forgot how to play offense against his zone for six minutes and you know, the Wizards had a chance. They had two pretty open threes on the same possession. They missed them both, and then
they got the ball to Lebron in the middle of the court. Like every zone offense that's ever been taught to anybody fifth grader older, get the ball in the middle of the court, right, that's where you attack his zone from the middle, and Lebron James attacked the zone, dunked, and they didn't really look back and like, yeah, like it's disappointing that the end
of the bench couldn't like close better and that's a real teachable moment. But no, I mean, I think at that point, right, like, I was pretty comfortable that they had found that the answer when you need to find it, and that's that's what good teams do. Dan, if you're a Laker fan and fight, ask this. So let's just kick it around.
What team would you rather play in the play in Phoenix, Sacramento, the Warriors, or the Rockets. I would probably rank them Sacramento one, which I know is crazy, but the injuries are real, Houston two, Golden State three, Phoenix four. I think Phoenix is the scariest you can really, I think Phoenix is going to get bounced. You do, but but it seems you want to play though Fred teems you you know you don't you know you rather not see Fred. You don't think you think Phoenix isn't
like to me the Devin Booker, Kevin Durant are terrifying. Yeah, can beat you at any any moment, can light you up at any time. I mean, it's a team that you you know, you kind of don't want to see. Yeah, but see you both said it can do it at any time, doesn't mean will do it at any time. I don't know. And I've watched a lot of their games this year. Dan. To me, they just seem a little off, a little inconsistent, and I think I think over the last I think over the last fifteen games,
they they've played pretty good basketball. The schedule is obviously very tough for them. I mean handled business last night against the Cavs. Uh. You know, I I look at that team and like, look, their problems are their problems, right, They've they've had injury issues all year. Their depths
is not good. Like they've struggled in fourth quarters. But to me, like in a in a win or go home situation, like you want to like, my preference would be the like, I want the variants to be as low as possible, right, Like I want the I want the likelihood of like somebody just like exploding for fifty points to be as small as I can possibly get it. And to me, that's probably the Kings right now. Of those teams, maybe the Rockets, I would probably actually go Houston
one, Sacramento two, and then. But I mean, I know the Lakers have beaten Steph Curry in a playing game that does not seem like a fun experience to have to stare him down. They have to hold your breath every time that guy shoots, to have to hold your breath every time Klay Thompson shoots. And I think certainly Devin Book and Kevin Durant are in that category as well, and that to mean, but I think what the good news for the Lakers is they've got those guys as well, right Like,
I mean, they're also equally as scary. But I mean it's all these teams are ten games over five hundred, Like the Lakers are playing great basketball, and they they've gained an eyelash on some of these teams, an eyelash. Yeah, I mean, you didn't mention New Orleans and their friend. I mean New Orleans is an option here too now all of a sudden,
Yeah, no, I know that, Yeah, yeah is there. I mean, I I look at this west, especially down the stretch where were you know, as we just you know, talked about anybody can beat anybody. There's no clear cut team. I think, even now, as opposed to maybe even a month ago, I think Denver is a beatable team. Dan, I just see the West is I wouldn't be shocked anybody come out of West. Yeah, I mean, I think Denver is the best team
in the West. I think Boston's the best team in the East. And I feel like I feel as confidence as I can about those two things. I look, I have gotten to the point now, Rodney, where it's like, you need to prove to me that you can keep then Kola Jokics from winning. He's the best, He's the best player in the league. He uh is dominant in ways that he's like a hybrid of Shack and Bill Walton somehow at that position, you know, with the little Larry birds too.
Yeah, you know, and it's like, You've got to prove to me you can stop him, and I'm not sure anyone can. I think like their play recently has been really strong. They're they're they're clearly gearing up for for the postseason. They need to get fully healthy and all of that stuff. But like, I mean, that team one thoughts percent knows who they are. I do sort of feel like everything else is kind of on
the table it's gonna be. I mean, my hope is that it's an incredibly exciting first round, right like because to your point, like I mean, outside of well, like like you said, one to eight could be Nugget Suns, it could be Nuggets Lakers, you know, and those are I think are competitive series. I think I would favor Denver handily in both,
but like those are competitive series, you know. I don't think Minnesota be super excited about seeing either Phoenix or for the Lakers, you know, out of Oklahoma City, I would imagine the same as true, Like those
are all really really good teams. And when you talk to people you know around the Lakers on the Lakers, coach on Lakers, I mean, that's sort of the biggest takeaway is like, I mean, we're all playing really really good basketball right now, and I think the Lakers feel very dangerous, you know, and I think they but they also at the same time have a help and respect to the teams ahead of them. I mean, they're going to see a couple of them here, a couple of these teams in
this mix. You know, it's one thing to go beat up on Toronto and Brooklyn and the Wizards, like you know, Cleveland, Minnesota, Golden State is you know what the stakes high like these these need to feel like playoff games for the Lakers, and and I'm very curious to see if they can kind of kind of get the fastball and keep it rolling against a different level of competition. Dan, what do you uh, what do you see the Clippers in all of this now floundering in a way that makes me a
little nervous. I think they are ill to me one of those like you tell me any possible outcome, and I sort of believe it. Like they they they may have the widest sort of variance in terms of how this is gonna go because maybe next to Denver, I think they might have the most talent one to seven you know, championship level coach experience, size, shot making, toughness, like they have those things, and that's like that's typically how you win in the playoffs. I mean, Kawhi Leonard when healthy has
been a postseason monster. But it's like how healthy is he? You know, like I mean, any like that isn't anything could happen team. For me, like they almost epitomize the Western Conference in a lot of ways in terms of like, I mean, they're they're they're wildly talented. They could win the entire thing, or you know, they catch the wrong match up and they lose in five games. Now, you're absolutely right, absolutely right, Dan. Back back to to the Lakers. How much of impact.
I know they're kind of slowly working Vincent back in, but how much of an impact will he really be? I think limited. I think there are ways in which he can help them. I think he gives them some physicality and some like defensive teeth that they lacked. I think if it steals Austin Reeves five or six fewer minutes as the primary wing defender, that that's encouraging,
that's helpful, that'll help Boston's legs. I think he's a guy that that's you know right now, is being asked to do a lot on both sides of the ball, and his shot has struggled because of that over the last five games or so. I think that could help, you know, look there. I think when they signed gave Vincent, the thought was like, this is a guy who'll give us, you know, nine to twelve points a game off the bench and hit big shots and can be on the
court and crunch time. Like I wouldn't expect that, you know, he's just missed too much basketball. But I think in terms of like finding a rhythm and stuff like that, I mean, you see him out there, like I mean, he's physical, like he's a big guard, you know, and he's the kind of guy that if you need to put on shake Gilds Slexander for four minutes like or five minutes, like, he can do it. You know, Like he's physical enough to handle, and he's physical
enough to handle Jamal Murray or Daron Fox. And they haven't had those guys as much because of injuries. Really, him and Jared Vanderbilt both kind of provide them with the same sort of blueprint on that side of the ball, like the point of attack defenders like the tip of the spear, and getting those guys back I think helps everybody else sort of level down a little bit and makes life a little easier on everyone else. All right, Dan,
great stuff. Appreciate you coming on and congratulations on surviving the road. Guys. Thank you so much. I'm gonna do some honer and get ready to go back out next week? All right, where is our buddy Dan Wiki back in town and alive to talk about it? You broke the story. Aaron Torris of Fox Sports Radio They're a college basketball insider, gave you all the credit about Andy Enfield going to SMU. Well, now it's being reported something. It's done. Yes, he mentioned Eric Musselman will be the new
coach at USC. Not done yet, we'll be done soon. What do you know ready it's done? Is it? Yeah? Well pretty much? What do you think of that? Higher? I like Eric Musselman. He's done well wherever he's gone. You know, we talk about, you know, turnarounds, and I think on you know, on a little smaller scale because we gotta wait and see if there's championships to come. But he has been able to go places and have in the idiot impact on the different places
that he showed up, and he brings a lot of energy. I think his players like him. I think it's a you know, at this time, I think it's a it's a really good hire, a really good higher because I think he can recruit number one and I think he's a really good coach. He's a passionate coach, and like I said, his energy is going to be exactly I think what us he needs right now. A bit of a down year form at Arkansas last season, but overall one eleven and
fifty nine, the guy can win. And if you remember, he was at Nevada and he took that program to the NCAA tournament, I believe three times. So they are getting a legit bonafid, big time coach. And I guess the Big ten doesn't scare him. No, he ain't as scared. He scared of no Big ten. Well we'll talk about it the first
time he goes to ann Arbor. All right. Anyway, it looks like Eric Muscle and the man at usc Southern California's two hundred miles per Hour Beach Party returns the forty ninth Accurate Grand Prix of Long Beach April nineteenth, of the twenty first tickets at GPLB dot com. All right, who is writing Who's gonna play a little nor squad? And I'll tell you what the squad is today. It's the Dodgers eight six, six, nine eighty seven two five seventy. First caller, whoever you are, if you think you can
beat Rodney and Ronnie. You get online, Kevin will pick you up and we'll put you on the air. Uh huh ah haha, Reddy, you talking about sliding in the dms. If there was a such a thing back then, this would have been a song that people play. Today's Throwback Thursday edition of Afternoon Delight is Freak Me Baby by Silk. This song was the second single off the group's nineteen ninety three debut album, entitled Lose Control,
and was written and produced by R and B star Keith Sweat. The song was the group's highest charting hit, as it reached number one on the Billboard Hot one hundred charge for two weeks in April of nineteen ninety three. In addition to charting in five countries worldwide, the song went certified platinum in the United States with over one million units sold. Again, Today's Throwback Thursday edition of Afternoon Delight is Freak Me Bye, Silk. All right, David and

you ready, gentlemen, let's play this game now. No, you're not jews. Which of these players led the team with twenty three stolen bases last season? James Outman, Mookie Betts, Chris Taylor, Freddie Freeman or Freddy Gibbs, Freddy Freeman, Ronnie Ronnie on the spot by Freddie Freeman, mic down Mica. I said it too, I said it too.
