Transcript

All right, let's go Fred Rugan, Rodney Pete and five to seventy l a sports two hours for us today. Uh, David Vassy will join us at the top of the one o'clock hour and it will be our final conversation with him boards the plane to Korea. Would he want to be on that trip for it? Yeah, wouldn't that be just a just a fun trip to be on. And look, look at the way the Dodgers do it.

They don't play it till next week. Let's get in there early, Let's get acclimated to the time change, Let's have some fun, Let's look around, Let's make a trip out of it. It's a trip. But aren't they but they're playing uh, they're playing exhibition games first though, aren't they They're going early? Yeah, I mean just to kind of get their feet wet. Yeah, but still yeah, you know, they'll be able to go around, see Soul, see Korea. It'll be great for him.

When is the one of the padres going? You know, I don't know, I don't know. I thought they all had to be there on the same time. Aren't they playing some uh some expo games too. Here's the problem with the Padres. If you remember what happened last year because they lost their TV deal and then spent all the money they did on players. Oh no, they probably don't have any money to go early. They going on Spirit. Yeah, I think they're going Spirit, and I think they

can only stay three nights in a hotel. Oh oh at Motel six. Yeah, they have one of O's and Soul. Yeah. Oh, they've got everything there. I stayed at the Hotel et one, the new no oh no, not no, not the Hotel et one, the Hotel et one. And then where you got your suit That's where I got my suits. The old Tani the new Otani Hotel. Oh, that's where I stayed, the new Otani. We got a hotel there too. I didn't know he was in the hotel business guys everywhere. That was what it was called,

the New Otani Hotel because they replaced the old Otani Hotel. So I think that's what it was called. Really mm hmmm. Yeah. So it was nice, Oh beautiful, It was incredible. Korea was great. I can't say the same for Beijing, but Korea was great. That was a different trip. Yeah, Beijing is when they got both the guns on you like popped out of the grass. Right. No, no, no, no, it was just because he went to the wrong forbidden place and he

stepped on the grass when he wasn't stepped on the grass. Yeah, and they got me. So that wasn't with signs they don't step on the grass, clearly told you don't step on the ground, clearly with with security saying don't step on the grass, don't do it. That was there, don't do it. And of course little Freddy, a little bad ass Freddy Rogan got to step on the grass. I went on there, always that bad kid Kevin in every class I went aways, Yeah, no Kevin. That

did happen in Korea, but that was on me in Beijing. It was very different. Before we went to Beijing, NBC would have the seminars and Dick Eversaw would speak and he said, look in China, and they always warned everybody. I mean, we're all adults, we know how to behave, but we always are we doing all adults and do we all know how to behave? Let's put it like this. We were adults, we were

adults, and we knew how to behave. But he said, by the way, if the police pick you up here, because when you go to a foreign country with NBC and you do the Olympics, you know there are some accommodations made if something you got a little cloub go along with NBC. Yeah, not so in Beijing. If anything happened to you, if the police picked you up, they could hold you. I think it was for

seventy two hours before they told anybody they had you. And he warned everybody, so if you go missing, we'll probably know where you're at, and they're under no obligation to tell us they've got you. So if you go missing, though, if you go missing and your people are worried about you, friends, family, whomever is worried about you, can you inquire to the to the authorities and say, may my guy's missing, can you check on him? Or if they just simply don't have to tell anybody anything for

seventy two hours. From what he said, they don't have to tell anybody anything for seventy two hours. Even if you ask, they don't have to tell you. That's well, that's what he said. Now. I don't know if it's changed since we were in Beijing, but those were the rules in and everybody, you know, he would stand up before everyone but games and explain that we are visitors in their country, and also suggested we don't act like the Americans. We can act like true you know, the arrogant

Americans when we travel right. He would stand up there in front of everybody and say that just to make sure everybody behaves, which is a shame that he would have to even say that. But we, like I said, there's always one at least one in every group that I don't see the rules. You challenge the rules, see how far they can go. All those things always going to be one or two. I never because when you did it for the network, I mean you were basically they took you everywhere,

They took care of you. You really had very little time on your own because if you wanted to do something, you asked and then they would take you there. So I couldn't figure out how any of us could ever get into trouble. But nonetheless he suggested that. He even said, when you're waiting to check into the venue, because everybody has to go through the metal detector and security, don't rush, don't push it, take your time. It's a slower pace of life in every country we ever traveled to. Don't

say this is ridiculous or this is terrible. Don't make any comments like that. Go with the flow, right, Yeah, And that's why when you were assigned to a venue and so for the Summer Games were a good portion of him. I did boxing, and of course the Winter Games I did curling. They would want us at the venue three hours early, three just to make sure. And if you walked in straight in and there was no line, and there never was three hours early, then you were there.

That was another rule. You better not miss where you're supposed to be. That was another be late, don't miss, don't don't you dare leave yourself enough time, is what he's saying. You know, if he had his way, we would have slept there. Do not. I'm serious, He warned everybody. If if you're how much did you really listen to that? Fred? How much did you listen? And then part of it went in

one ear and out the other? No, I listened to We all know you, Fred, We all know you like to put some test the boundaries. You're going doors that you're not supposed to go in. I know, No I listened here Hemograss years ago NBC would have like a three day seminar before all the Olympic Games. And uh I remember before the Salt Lake Games. We were in Salt Lake. It would be in a giant ballroom. Everybody that was working on the Olympics would be there, so the production people,

the air people, everybody would be in this giant room. Dick Eversoll and David Neil and David Neil now oversees Fox Sports coverage of soccer. They would get up and the thing would be like three days long, and they would have these seminars. They would show tapes of what to do, what not to do, They would have video of guys that made mistakes and explain why. They would cut out press clippings and show them about the anticipation for the games. And I'll be honest with you, they went on for a

while. They were long. It was like three hours in the morning, three hours in the afternoon, and you were sitting in this giant ballroom and they were filling the time. Now, by the way, they do it like in fifteen minutes, because they don't spend money like that anymore. Hey, everybody knows a drill. Don't screw up. Go all right? Read it for yourself. Right, But back then they'd have these giant seminars. So what would happen But people would fall asleep. They would fall asleep in

the seminar because it was for you. Oh I didn't And here's why. Here's why. If you had been to a few of those you knew something. You better not fall asleep because they got people in the back with notebooks and if you fall asleep, they write your name down. Are they really they were checking to see if people fell trode me that two hours? Yeah, oh yeah, they had people checking to make sure he didn't fall asleep. They had it all covered. They knew what they were doing, all

right. So we'll we'll talk to Dave about his soon trip to Korea. Coming up at one o'clock. So we know teams got to get down to the NFL, and the Chargers had a dilemma on their hands. I mean, Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa, Mike Williams Uh made a lot of money. They're over the cap and they're in trouble, so somehow, some way they have to correct it. Keenan Allen makes a lot of money as well. So now you look at those four guys. Of those four guys, and you go, which one can we afford to let go? Well,

you can't really afford to let Khalil Mack go. So he's staying. Yes, he restructured his deal, so he's in. He's good. He's in, and he had a really good year last year, right, so he's in. He made it. He made the cut. I haven't heard. I don't know if you have yet about Joey Bosa. I have not, Okay, I have not, because he was another one, you know, and you ran down the list. Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Khalil Mack, Joey Bowson were really the four, yeah, that had the big contracts

that were gonna it was gonna be a big hit. And I initially my first reaction as well, same as most people and same as what they did, is Khalil Mack is probably gonna stay. If anybody is, probably gonna be Bosa because he's been hurt the last few years and they haven't had him, he hasn't been available for him. It's probably Bosa's gonna be the odd guy out. Okay. And if they had to do two, then yeah, the one that got it the one that got it. Okay, so

we don't know about Bosa, we've not heard about Keenan Allen. But the one that's definitely gone is Mike Williams. That's the guy they cut. Now here's the problem. When you cut Mike Williams, you're cutting a guy that, if healthy, and you can you can argue this with me if you want Rodney, if healthy, could be a top three receiver in the game. Top yeah, maybe top six, say top three, but we're gonna put him in the top ten. It we'll put him in top ten.

Yeah, went healthy, it's went healthy yet. But that's the caveat went healthy because since he got here, he gets hurt and it's you know, it's not like he's running around on a motorcycle. He's hurt on the field and that's a problem and they can't afford to keep him around at that price point given his injury history. So Mike Williams is the guy that got it. What's his average on games played per season? It can't be very high,

can't it? And you're right the issue with that. But the issue with cutting him, though, Fred, is that now he's free to go anywhere he wants to he's free to land at a spot that, let's face it, he can he's free to land out a spot that you might have to face him twice a year, you might have to face him on a

regular basis. And you know that incentive factor to going for Mike Williams to go to a place like that and to have a big game against your former team is very, very high, rather than having the ability to trade him to say as someone out of the division and out of the conference. So that's that's gonna be the thing, because you know, in the back of your mind, you're always gonna think, if you're an organization and we let that guy go, now he's gonna come back to bite us because he's he's

capable of doing that. Without that question. And by the way, to answer a question, Rodn and you asked about his a durability. Outside of last season where he got injured early on, he's been fairly durable. He's played in sixteen games fifteen, fifteen, sixteen, and then in twenty twenty two he played in thirteen. Oh, so he's actually been fairly durable. That's more than I thought because the book you got a bad pr agent,

then he gets banged up here and there, but but he plays. He generally plays because the book out there is that he's not available, that he doesn't. You know, he misses half the season every single year, well and most recently because again in twenty twenty two he played only thirteen games, and then last season only played in three. So maybe there's recency bias when it comes to that. But prior to the last two seasons sixteen fifteen,

fifteen sixteen, Wow, so pretty much every game that is. Yeah, that's way more than I thought he was was available me too. Wow. See he does need a new PR guy. Yeah, he does. Bro, Are you sure about that? Givin Frett, I'm looking at Football Reference. For football Reference, people do this stuff. Right. Didn't seem like, well, you said the last coach last year he wasn't right, he was. So this past season he got injured in Week three, so and

it was out for the remainder of the season. The year before he was available for thirteen games. He played in thirteen games the year before that, still a lot, which is really still a lot when he talked about sixteen games. Yeah, and then between twenty nineteen and twenty twenty one he played in fifteen games. Fifteen games, sixteen games, wow wow wow. If that's it doesn't have nagging injuries that have had that have plagued him, I will say that for sure. So that is a thing. But he does,

he does play through it most of the time. Somebody's getting a pretty good receiver. Yeah, they are. And Ian Rappaport did say that the Chargers do in tend or at least want to bring him back. Whether or not he wants to come back on a smaller number, who knows. But it's not because they don't want him. They just didn't want him at that number. Yeah, the numbers didn't work. Now, if you're him and he's going to go test it, right, he's got to go test it

now, see see what's out there. But do you want to come back? You know, it depends on what kind of relationship they really had with them and how much i'm much of a conversation they really had. Like listen, this is strictly a numbers thing. We want to get you back, and if if everything goes well, then maybe we can get you a new a new deal. But at this price point, we cannot keep you.

But keep us in mind because we want to bring you back. Well, their choice was this, is it Williams, Is it Khalil Mack, Is it Joey Boso? Is it Keenan Allen? All Right? Well, you know all four can play, but I think you've got to do everything you can to keep Keenan Allen. Yeah, and I think more so than than those four. I think it was really, do we keep Keenan Allen and we keep Mike Williams all right? And you know, on the other side, is it do we keep Khalil Mack? Do we keep Joey Bosa?

You know, well we still haven't heard about Bosa. No, we haven't heard about Bosa, but I would lean to think that he may not be there. Really, they might not need to do anything with both. Those were the Big four, and they really need to get rid of one to clean up their books. So they've already gotten rid of Williams and they've already restructured with Khalil Mack. So they might not do anything to me. They don't want to get anybody else in here, though true if they don't want

to spend big money to bring somebody else until that is true. So, but potentially they could do nothing with Bosa and nothing with Keenan Allen and just keep him on the roster. And this could be it from who is getting cut or who's getting restructured? Yeah, yeah, but give it again. Maybe you know and I know this. I mean, we're totally off on Mike Williams in terms of his durability and his availability. So apologies to Mike Williams, but we do know that Joey Bosa has not been available as much

over the last few years. Yeah, he's been hurt too. All right, Well, we're gonna stay on top of this. Uh spring training is it too long? Well some people say yes, some people say no. We'll try to figure it out next Oh. Yes, it is a beautiful Wednesday two hours show for us today, so we are sprinting Rodney Pete, Fred Rogan, let's go all right, we are going to play a little who is in about eight minutes, so we'll give you a cue to call.

And David Vasse joined just top of the one o'clock hour today as he gets ready to head off to Korea. So interesting piece about spring training, and the sentiment is Rodney by some aj Hinch for example, manager of the Tigers six weeks is too long. You don't need six weeks anymore. Ron Washington, manager of the Angels, more old school, I like it.

We need six weeks. Hinch makes the point that players come into camp now in shape and ready to go. More often than not, there's always going to be the old James Harden who works his way into shape when they get going. But most of these guys they're training twelve months a year just to stay in shape. Do you think spring training is too long for baseball? I don't, Actually I don't. I think it's I think it's right off point for a variety of different reasons. But all of that is true with

aj. Hinch is saying that now more spent on your body and training and physical fitness and nutrition than it ever was before. You know, guys in the seventies, yes, they use spring training just like any of sports. Football was one especially, guys didn't do anything until spring training or training camp came around, and they used that six weeks to get ready and get in shape for the season. But guys are training year round. They are in

better shape when they come into spring training. The the folks that really needed are the pitchers to get their arms in shape, and that is necessary I think for them to ramp up for a season. Otherwise, you know, we'll be well into maybe June before we see pitchers extend themselves. Right now, you know, they'll take the month of April to kind of ramp up

along with the spring training that's in place now. So if you shorten it, then that process of regular season games and pitchers and how long they go will be pushed back a little bit. But I don't think baseball is a sport that six weeks is necessary and it's good for number One, for the I think for not even so much. I put the players and they're in

shape at the bottom of the list. But for the organizations and all the money that's spent on spring training and these facilities in Arizona and Florida, they've got to maximize that and they've got to get as much out of those those six weeks as possible. I mean, people fly from all over the world to be a part of spring training, set up camps, rent airbnbs and hotel rooms for periods of time just to be a part of spring training.

So it's a it's a movement. When March rolls around or late February March rolls around for fans and for organizations to maximize their revenue streams. So from that point alone, I don't think it's going to be shortened. Yeah, I agree, and I think it's the money aspect that you pointed out as to why it's going to remain the way it is. But if you're in shape, you're ready to go when you get your hacks. And as a hitter pictures different agree, you got to stretch those guys out. They need

more work. But if you're a hitter and you're in shape, you get in there, get your eye back on the ball, you know, get your swings in. You should be ready to go. When you were playing, Now, I you weren't playing when they were leather helmets. I can't remember, not quite. Not quite. They had just eliminated the helmets, and you know, technology kind of caught up with the game. Okay, but when you were playing, Uh, what was that your outside voice when

you were playing? Did guys come to camp in shape? Yeah? Yeah, for the most part, I think that when I came into the league, it was really that push of where they overdid it right, So it was now we have an opportunity to get a hold of these guys in March and in April and in May. So that was the the invention of the many camps and the off season programs and these OTAs that you hear about is when I came into the league, and the and the you know, end

of the eighties and early nineties is when you started having teams say, Okay, we're gonna get you get guys together for ten days in March. Then we're gonna get them for ten days right after the draft, and then in early June, we're gonna get them together for another ten days. Since that time, you know, with the Players Association and Collective Bargaining Agreement, they cut that way back and gone back to the other ways of doing it.

But when I played, yeah, guys would come in and shape, but they were always there are always that those ones that didn't And remember until my last probably four, yeah, four or five years in the league, we would go to training camp and spend a full two weeks of training camp before

the first preseason game. And now I think they're they're there for about a week and then preseason starts, and there weren't There's no two days anymore two practices a day like there were back in the in the nineties, so you you basically and and then there was testing programs, So if you came in out of shape, there were there were conditioning tests that you had to you had to make and qualify once you got the training camp, and if you

didn't, you would get you would get fined, and then on top of that, you would get looked upon a certain way like you're not ready to play. So there was a lot of pressure on you to come into camp in shape. But still, nonetheless there are a lot of guys that still use training camp. Hey, I'm just gonna wait training camp to start eating right and started getting myself in shape. Uh, when you had two a

day's was it necessary? And what would you do? I mean because you hit almost every day, didn't you when you were playing, Yes, pretty much, Yeah, you hit every day. There was there would be a day that you would take off during that time, but you would hit. You would hit one practice a day, so one practice would be full on pads and and hitting and grind two and a half hour practice and then usually that would be a more practice and sometimes they flip it up and be the

afternoon practice, but one of those friends in the afternoon. If you hit hard in the morning, the afternoon practice would be maybe just shoulder pads and shorts and just be a little bit lighter, so you didn't get as physical in the afternoon practice to kind of give the guys a little bit of a

break. But it was still a two hour practice and was still a grind going, you know, getting up at six practicing for two hours, trying to you know, then you have meetings along with that, you know, after practice or right before the second practice, and then you got to go back and practice again just to truly crind. But they don't have that anymore. To two days are illegal now. Yeah, So you asked me if

it wasn't necessary. Yeah, no, no, I don't think it's necessary because you get to the point where you start beating a dead horse, and you know, I know it's good to have repetition, but you can get a lot of things done and what you need to get done without practice seen, you know, six hours a day, you really can. It's it's unnecessary. I think it was just it became and you felt with different teams that I went to, I was, you know, obviously played for six

different teams, so different organizations did it differently. And I was with some teams that felt that it was necessary to get all that time in. Gotta have it all, got to have six weeks of training camp, got to have the meetings, got to have the two and a half hour practices twice a day. That was the only way to get yourself in shape and get yourself ready for the season. And we found out it certainly was not the case. Not the case. All right, Uh, who wants play a

little? Who did I do? All right, Well, you're going to play. It's like six here's the deal. First call up, pick up the pick up the phone, put you on the air, and you'll play Rodney and Ronnie. Yeah. Hey, folks, here's an alert. A week from Friday. One week from Friday, it's March twenty second. Riding myself the Gang will be down at Crony's Sports Bar and Newbury Park live from noon to three. Watch those March Madness games, enjoy great food and drinks.

Find out why Crony Sports Bar is the best sports grill in Ventura County. The Tales at a five to seven e LA Sports dot Com, Dave and Christine Folds will be down there. Place is always packed, always packed out too. Yeah, if you want a seat inside. Now, the patio is great. You can hear everything, you can be a part of it. And the patio's beautiful there and they'll take carries and don't worry about that. But if you want to see it inside. When I say you

should get there early, I am not exaggerating. You should get there early, otherwise you'll be outside of the nice patio. You enjoin the program with you Fred's face, Kevin. We're giving away prizes, right, we will. I don't have what those prizes are quite yet, but anytime those are Rogan and Rodney remote. There are giveaways. So all right, I have that's look forward to. Well there is whatever. We're very a very giving show. I like to say that we are that we are. We live

to give. Yeah, all right, Sean and Coaster Mace are you there here? So it's beyond guys, well Sean show. Oh I'm ready. I can't believe I got through. This is awesome. Okay, cool, no, Sean, right, oh, Sean, let's do this thing. Sean, who dis no rules, no rules, and who dis when you know it you're yelling out. You have a challenge. Use your challenge to held you retain it. Use your challenge. It's denied. You're locked out of the next question. You got it, got it all right, Ronnie?

Are we ready to go? Greetings Rogan and Rodney. I am ready to go. It's got to work. I made nine Pro Bowls in my Pro Football Hall of Fame career. Eric Dickerson incorrect, Richard Ditt No, ray Lewis Singletary both the wrong. Charles Woodson no, Steve Young Nope, Joe Mont There you go, Ronnie, you both said it. You're both wrong. I left the NFL in passing yards five times and in passing jog three times. Aidan Manning No, Eli Manning. No. Dan Marino,

Yes, Rodney, it is Dad. Yeah, Danny boy doesn't get enough love. Yeah you know what he doesn't. No, he doesn't. A great quarterback, great great you talk about, Oh, you know this guy's got arm talent. That guy's got back and Patrick Mahomes got this great arm talent. Aaron Rodgers, Oh my god, he throws a bubble. Dan Marino, go just go watch some highlights of Dan Marino throw the football.

He was a bad man. All right, here's the next one. I am a four time pro bowler and made my only first team All Pro team in twenty twenty. Todd Gurley, no Jayleen Ramsey, no Jared Goff, Aaron Donald, no Cooper Cup, no Allen no Max Crosby, Justin Herbert. Nope. I let the NFL and rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in twenty nineteen and twenty twenty. Oh, Henry, Yes, Sean has got it first. Wait? Wait, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa? You

said that like nobody else said anything. No, I said, Sean got it first. Yes, I know. I didn't hear anybody about it. That was automatic. I don't know. All right, An guess I feel like there's a challenge coming Sean. I'm not gonna let it feel against him. So are you not gonna let it go? Because Freddy was? I was gonna let it go, but fred was so just nonchalant that nobody else answered other than Sean almost got a challenge it, man, Are you using

your sh Wait? Are you using your challenge? Yeah? Because I know you're not gonna get me a booze. So yeah, I'm using my challenge? Why not? Are you sure you want to use your challenge? Yes? Fred? Is that your final answer? Okay? How many times you gotta answer? I am? How many times you gotta ask me? Man? I can't go back on it now, and I know the rules. I know I'm going to be locked out now, but you gotta do it. If I said it, I'm gonna do it. Kevin, go ahead.

I let the NFL and rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in twenty nineteen and twenty twenty. Oh Rick Henry, Oh shot, I got you? I got you? You did you? Did? He? Stand up? Guy? Gotta do it all right? So Rodney's locked out of this one. I made a Pro Bowls in my Hall of Fame football career. Eric Dickerson. No, Joe Montana, no, ray Lewis No, no Brett Fare no Drew Brees No. I led the NFL receptions and receiving yards twice. Jerry Rice No, my son is likely going to be the first receiver taken

in this year's NFL draft. Oh Edwin James No, wow, wow, yeah you go? John? Here you go? Ronnie? Where are you at? I blanked on the one I blanked on that one. I thought it was close. Mum, hey, Sean John, you were in the ballpark. Did you say Edwin James? I did? He did. You want to know something? His son plays college basketball and it's pretty good. Yeah, Edrian Jameson's got him play. M h uh huh like that I have, Yeah, he can, he can play a little bit. Kenny,

Yeah, who's he played for? I can't remember? You know why? No, you know why he was playing. I was watching Kansas State, uh huh. And I can't remember the team he was playing for. I think Kansas State lost the game. But he could play. And he looks just like him. He's at Cincinnati there it is that Cronin's old stomping ground. Ye, Naddy okay. And his name is a picture of hi Keviedy looks just like his son's just like Eddrian. You're correct. And his

name is Jizsel. That was and is not a nickname. Roddie has given name Wizzle James. Stop it, yes, please stop it, true Sizzle James. All right, here's your next one. I made nine AL All Star teams in my career. Who Rodney George Erlander? I said, you're right, what how does that what, Rodney. You sounds so surprised. Wow. Yeah, I don't think in the years we've done this, you've ever even mentioned that name. Oh yes I have. Yeah, yeah,

I've heard him. I've heard him say Justin Erlander in the past. We've had him a few times. Yeah, that's definitely you know what it is. But it's like, it's like episode eight of the Dynasty. Have you watched that Dynasty with the New England Patriots. It's really it's a really good

watch. Yeah. So episode eight is after the flate gate, after the flight gate, where Brady had to was suspended for the first four games and pissed off at the league, pissed off at Roger Goodell, and they all talked about when he comes back, he's gonna be pissed off and everybody better be unnoticed. And sure enough, that's the year they went and went to Super Bowl and beat Atlanta and Roger Goodell had to give him the trophy at the end as MVP, and it was an awkward thing. But yeah,

you locking me out made me pissed off. That's why I came back like I did with a vengeance of Justin Erlander. Nice, I thought Roger was talking about the old what the Joan Collins and John Forsyth Dynasty. Yeah, but you're not old enough to know that. You get old enough to remember Dynasty like that. My grandmother watched it. That's the only reason why I know it. That was a great show, though, wasn't it all? Anything was great? Yeah? I don't care what you wor the cowboy hat.

What was the main guy in Dynasty? J Are Ewing? No, that was Dallas that you got your shows confused there, Sean the spinoff? No, I think the spinoff was Nott's Landing, wasn't it. That's right from Dallas? Yeah, with Joan van Ark Dallas? With who John van Arc? That? Fred? Was that the like? Was that the lead female character blonde lady? Blond lady? Okay, yeah, yeah, because she was married to a reporter Channel four John Marshall never heard of really?

Yeah, Oh, she's she's great. Any relation of Mike Marshall, Fred, Yeah, no, No, no relation to Mike Marshall. All right, here's the next one. And Rodney, boy, you know you're setting that story up, you're telling it. Got to tell you you really went a long way to get to the point why you around the corner, in the corner, around the band, over the hill, the grandmother's house. To get where are we going? What we don't have? Me just had to get the Dynasty. I watched it last night, so it was really

good. I had to get that in all right, here we go. I was the first round pick by the Nuggets in nineteen ninety eight, but was traded by the Lakers on draft day. Who Alex English? No Carmelo Al both the wrong? Wait a minute, did you even finish the question? Fred I was the first round picked by the Nuggets in ninety eight, traded to the Lakers on draft day. Oh, Derek Fisher, No Kobe Briot No. I won two NBA titles with the lakersmar Odem augustav no I

won an NBA title as a head coach in twenty sixteen. Tyler Tylan was correct. Ronnie's who it is? Ronnie? You can jump in and whenever you want. I just did a Didn't I get it right? Rodney? Now you asked him, smart ass? You asked him if Freddie can get finished with the question, and he doesn't have to get finished with the question, you smart ass, mother, Easy Rodney, Right, listen, take another sip of green tea. Gets your games right, foolio. Wow,

Rodney trying to take it a little bit personal. There, Rodney, just a game riding right, It's just a games right, Ronnie gets games right. Let's move on, Fred, I'm doing this a long time. Come on, man, all right, you better than that. No, i'd well, we'll put Rodney has two, Sean has two, Ronnie has one. Here is the final question. I made two All Star teams in my thirteen year MLB career. Justin Turner No, oh, Clayton Curser, Peter Peter nos No, Alex Rodriguez, no, Big Poppy, not the Poppy

Manny Ramirez, Poppy, not Rameira's Clayton Kershaw. No. I won two World Series titles with the Dodgers, two of them. Ron Say, Steve Garvey, Dusty Baker, No, Fernando No, no, Steve Jeger No, Mike soosha. And there it is, Mike sure Rodney. So here's the way he finished. Didn't win, Leo neither? Did you settle down? All right? So here you all right, let's let's everybody relax. Yeah, rod let's go leave. Rodney. We end in a three way tie Sean Rodney and Ronnie so Seawan, good job, Sean, hanging in

so good about that stuff. Good stuff, Sean, Thank you guys, what stuff up thinking. I'll try to get in again. Appreciate you guys. We appreciate it you too. Next hour, David Vasse will join us. Then he I don't know if he'll go right to the airport. They're leaving tomorrow, so I don't know if he's going to go directly to the airport after he talks to us, but he will talk to us before he gets on the plane for Korea. And that's coming up, all right.

We continue on Fred Rogan, Rodney Pete on a five seventy LA Sports. Dodgers are headed off to Korea tomorrow, but they've got a game going on against the Mariners right now. David Vassy is at the game and we bring him on live. Dave, good afternoon to you. Yoshi Yama Moto. Yes, probably the best ending of pitching I've seen from Yamamoto this spring. He had that fast fall and so that's the Yama Moto we've heard about.

Yeah, I love it, Hey, Dave, you know there was that outside noise about him, you know, tipping pitches and things like that, and they what what did the Dodgers think about that? Have they mentioned that? Is that a big deal or they don't even are they just not even really addressing it at this point. Yeah, it's not a deal, right, I know, yes, but when they identified that they could see the ball. Nobody was at second base. So unless another team is due the

seventh sin Astro's deal, that's a moot point. Now if he's tipping while he's out of the stretch and there was yeah, okay, great, you could see, Uh, there's nobody at second Basely right, all right, you know what, Dave, we're going to call you back because you're breaking up, Kevin, give them a call back. We'll try to get back out because the signal's not great. Well, you know, Rick Monday pointed that out in his first outing, that you could see what he's doing.

But perhaps they have had a conversation and despite the fact he doesn't really like pitch it from the stretch, and we learned that today, he mowed down the first three Mariners he faced. I'm sure they'll work on that when he gets to the stretch. Rodney. Yeah, or it could be not a big deal. Or it could be a situation where they looked at it and it's not Oh maybe he's not really tipping his pitches and it's something different,

you know what I'm saying. So who knows, But I'm sure as much self scouting and as much Dodgers do and video that's out there, you know, if if if they put it this way, they would have probably noticed it as well. All right, David, Given spring training, they would have noticed it. I'm here, okay, all right, Yeah, you were breaking up before. That's all all right, Gavin l No, I understand. Sorry to bother you to day. He is sitting in his on his couch at home, you know, on a landline. No, he's

at the game doing work, multitasking. I know he is, and he does work. Get out of here, alright, I'm sorry, it's out, Gavin. Luck shaky at second base so far, Dave, How does the Dodgers feel about this? Well, it was even shakier at shortstop, and that's why they moved him to second base. And the bottom line is, if he doesn't hit, he's not going to be smart. So the breath outright is because he has looked at the plate they're keeping for offense.

You know what it's like right now? All right, Well, this is sad because we wanted to hear all about Dave's upcoming plans for Korea, but we can't really hear Dave. He's at the ballpark. Fit the the ballpark, and there's probably a lot of traffic as the Dodgers get ready to go to Korea. Probably a lot of interference going on out there in Arizona. All right, well, you know what we'll have to do. We'll just have all here. He's back again. All right, day were you there

this time? He never left? He never left? All right? Kevin? Is is that it for Dave? Okay? Kevin's and he's resigned to it. Oh no, and I We'll just let him go. That's what it is. It is what it is. Sometimes, you know. I'm excited for him though. He's going to getting ready to go to Korea. Uh. That's going to be a great trip, you know, for them to be over there. And we talked about it earlier, Fred them to

go a little bit early. It feels like to you know, see the country a little bit, see the city a little bit, also play some games, some international games. Uh, it's just gonna be a great trip for those Dodgers and the people that are going over there. How do you think they'll react to Otani? Oh, I think they'll react huge to him. I think it's it's going to be incredible, you know, it's I think, first of all, he's a he's a global, global superstar,

so no matter where you're from or what country. And I think he is a well known player, well known superstar, so and especially in that part of the world, he's a big, big deal, more so than over here. So I think he's going to get a tremendous welcome when the Dodgers land and he comes up to the plate. Yeah. The thing is, he transcends you know, he is Michael Jordan, he is Tiger Woods. Because of who he is, he transcends his sport, and very few people

do. We've talked about this in the past. You know, you can be the greatest in any given sport. That doesn't mean you transcend to the general public. But Michael Jordan did Tiger Woods did. I think Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas did, and I think Otani does two. Even if you don't know he plays baseball, you know, who he is and at that

point in time, you have transcended Rodney. Yeah, that's it. If you don't know baseball, you still know who he is, then you know you have And can you think of a can you think of a player now, current player right now that transcends like that or is global like that? Maybe Lebron James right now is the one out there. What else can you think that is a global icon? Okay, well we could look at football and say Pat Mahomes, but I don't think so. No, I don't

think so because football is not such a global sport. I mean it is big, don't get me wrong, and it's grown every single year, and football is king and king in a lot of places. You just listen to all the broadcasts of the Super Bowl around the different countries. You can understand how big football is around the world, even in countries that don't play it. But I just I don't think Patrick Mahomes is on the Lebron James level.

When you talk about global maybe messy MESSI yeah, maybe about it definitely. Yeah. You saw when he came here to Miami. I mean in a country that doesn't I mean celebrated soccer as much as they do in South America or Europe. Uh. He came here. It was a phenomenon and so yeah, definitely definitely messy. Nobody in hockey, nobody right now in hockey. Huh. I don't think anybody in hockey. I mean there are great players, I don't think they transcend that Sid the kid ever transcend like

that? No he didn't. No, I don't think it's the level. No. No, he certainly transcended to the levels in Canada and here, But no, I don't think worldwide globally. No. Yeah, basketball Lebron Steph Curry or no, No, now you would be a tear down on Steph Curry. I think to a song big big, but not globally it would be a Lebron James thing. More so, then you're right anecdotal evalence on my part. So I went on a trip with some friends of mine.

We went to Croatia about four years ago, and we're walking and one of my best friends is he's he's seven he's seven foot you know, seven foot one. He's pretty tall. It looks like a bride basketball player and he played in college in high school And they said, do you know Steph Curry there's a little kid from Croatia And the first thing they asked is that do you play basketball? Are you American? And do you know Steph Curry

didn't ask about Lebron James. Now. I know we're talk talking about global sponsorships and all that stuff, but to a certain degree, Steph has some international appeal for sure. They didn't ask me about Yeah, but they do have. You know a lot of guys have international appeal depending where you are. But just talking about if country go country by country around the globe, I think Lebron James names will come up first before anybody else's. Can I

just read a quick tweet? I just checked. No, you know the tweet? You know the tweet, don't You got a tweet from Holly Robinson Pete who listens to the show. And by the way, yes, Holly, thanks for listening every day. Now, if you don't think she listens every day, she does because she usually listens in the other room and if Rotney has said something or seems to be a little off on something, I

have the ability to see her and see her run in and talk. Yes, well you know, so this this listener a p one Holly Robinson Peete tweets the show. Fortunately, Fritz, you have it, you know on you know, the house is hooked up to everything, so Google, she says, a Google play Rogan and Rodney. It goes around the house sometimes. So I walk into the bathroom and I hear her voices playing. She's like wit in the world. Yeah, and she also listens in the car

to be fair, Yes, yes she does. Here's her tweet. Wow, Rodney is wound pretty tight today. Damn, what's wrong. I'm gonna have to have a talk with her. Yeah like that normally maybe I am, Maybe I'm not. You know, let me do my soul. Woman, I'm sure you don't want us to dump that. And there's still time'

she core'd you cut us? All right? We've got the haiku coming up here in a minute, and before we get into VIC, we will discuss the Lakers upcoming game tonight and what happened to the Clippers last night.
