All is one, Dan and one And that's my point. I brought it up earlier. I think it's exceptionally exciting that the Lakers are
going to advance to the quarterfinals of the in season tournament. Rodney, Yeah, Rodney, and Kevin bat asked me, what does that mean? And I responded, honestly, I don't know, but I know this. I think it's good and I think it's exciting. Do you think this in season tournament is working so far? Absolutely? I mean, I think it's so. I've talked to people within the league. I've talked to people within ownership groups, people in management, players, coaches, et cetera about this thing,
and yeah, I mean I think you know. I mean, look, could everybody explain it? No? Does everybody know what the trophy is called? Absolutely not. But I think that the league has done a good job. I know when an nd season tournament game is playing, because it looks like my TV is gone insane. You know, I think they've done a good job marketing it, like the Michael Imperial League heist commercial, but
you haven't seen it is awesome. It's a great spot. And then and then now, you know, once we get out of this pool play phase, it like now it just becomes a tournament that like a single elimination tournament, and we're all exposed the single elimination basketball tournament. We all know what that looks like. You know what I mean, The Lakers will play a
quarterfinal game. The confusion over the schedule, like, should they lose and they will play another regular season game at the end of the week instead of the semi final in Vegas, It's like, that's not for anyone else to worry about, Like what, like, I'll handle that, you know, let the traveling secretary figure that out. All the public should care about is that the Lakers have won a game. They are now in a position to
play in another tournament. Now the real tournament starts, right the courts will stay insane. They will play one more game at home. If should they win that they are off to Vegas for the semi finals. Then who do they play? We don't know. That's what I wanted to know. That they forgot the George Washington sketch. Fro mcgovery's who can say it's impossible it is. We will know whence Pool play completely wraps up. The Lakers are
overachievers. They finished, you know, they're done with their games. There'll be more turnament games, I believe on Friday. Oh I'm more. I mean I think it could be Phoenix, it could be Sacramento, could be Minnesota, chances could be Denver. Yeah, greatheart, Yeah, and we
still don't know. You don't win the trophy. Guy, Guys, the road to the trophy that no one can name is not a not an easy and the strongest can can can bring home the cup that will someday assuredly be named after the Timberwolves and the games I would tell people to watch is watch Timberwolves and Sacramento, see what happens, because one of those teams is going
to win their group. And then then after that, I think the the Sons of a game against Portland that if they win in a low out could put them in position to be the wild card team, which the Lakers seemingly will be the number one seed in the West because of their exceptional point differential.
They're like plus seventy four in tournament games and then their three tournament went or four tournament wins, and so then they will they will host whoever the wild card is, which is the team at the best record, and then all the fiam up tab breakers of teams that did not win the group. Rolls off the tongue, guys, easy breezing alight, it rolls off the tongue. Dan is uh Lebron's minutes last night that was good to see.
Twenty four minutes a d I think at twenty nine minutes. Is that something that they want to try to lean to where they can have games like that every you know, every two or three so teams. Yeah, yeah, they would love to blow teams out right me, like honestly, like, I mean right, like this is like as good as it, as good as a night can go. With the exception of Camradish injuring his groin, he won't play it night against Dallas, But yes, you would love to
reduce the stress on these Lebron minutes. And to me, it is one of the kind of like questions that's lingering about the start for the Lakers.
The Lakers now three games over five hundred. I believe managed six is playing pre good basketball right now, but granted not playing the world's hardest schedule of all time, I think it's fair to say it has been like sort of like, you know, they really needed Lebron to play pretty well to get to this point, and you know, my colleague Jian Hernandez sort of wrote
about that is like, you know, is that sustainable? Like does that show you that you know, this team is gonna have to find other ways and you know, eventually you know, certainly once when things get when things get harder, you know, can they can they do this? I don't know, you know, I mean I think guys, Lebron is at a level right now that is I mean me say this all the time, but like I mean, the guy, you can just mark it down in pen
pretty much. He's gonna score twenty points. He's gonna be over fifty percent shooting, and he's completely changed the way that he plays. He's gone from a guy that was like his athleticism was just unmatched to now a guy who's so much stronger, you know, going through players more than around them or over them. And you know he's shooting. The lights are right now.
He's playing incredible basketball. So because of there are limited minutes last night, it is a back to back, it's a home back to back, so I don't count it as a back to back. I count it, yeah, I mean, I think we'll see those guys tonight. I mean, it would it would stack as like a conceivable quote unquote rest night for for Lebron James. I think it would be a I think it would be a thing where sorry, my son just walked in, guys, I apologize he
was out at the store. I think, uh tis the season. Guys. What kind of a father would I be if I just said get out of here, son, Dandy's working? What what? What? Horrible? Bad? Would I say? Keep it? And this is going to be a pretty hellish next three or four weeks of schedule for them there on the road a lot. Now you add the n seasoned tournament stuff in there too. But I mean, he's I'm playing, He's wanted to play, and he always wants to play, So I would not be I
would not be stunted all lebron jaws on the courtunate. I expect to have to for sure. Yeah. A mark Stein reported that Zach Lavine trade. You know, roamers talks, all that stuff is kind of put on hold right now. Is that the case that they're just focused on getting guys like Vincent and Vanderbilt back healthy and then we'll see how it goes into the trade
deadline? Yeah, I mean, look like so you know, and I wrote about this like for one, like the Lakers like legally, like because of the way their contracts are set up with the guys they sign in this summer's agency, like they can't make a trade yet, like those players who sound of reading are eligible to be traded to the middle of December, and then another handful of them are eligible to be traded to the middle of January.
So like, I mean, this was always like a kind of more down the road saying and guys, I just it's not like they're frothing at the mouth over this deal or any deal for exactly being at this point, I think it's pretty widely known. And you know, so that's put the Lakers is of this on the new YouTube show that Brad Turner and I are doing. So that's good pluck today that yeah, that you know that more
interesting crews, to be honest, sort of like everybody you know. I think if you look at like the guy, that you can more easily see how this player would impact your chances of the championship. You take the guy you know who's one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, you'd add him to your mix at you know, nine ten million dollars a year instead of a guy who you know is supremely talented but would be you know, undergoing a pretty severe role change at forty million. And I Rodnie, I
think you could probably speak to this a little bit. Although it's it's kind of different in football. I think one of the hardest things that I've seen in sports is you watch all star talent like kind of move into like a lower place on a hierarchy and like have to figure out how to like affect winning and help it helping a team when they're like not the guy anymore.
I think it's like it's so challenging, and people, I think a lot of times look at these guys and say, oh, he's selfish, he's not making the right sacrifices not to like it's almost like speaking an entirely different language, like being a role player versus being a stuff. Is it that it is? It's it's a very difficult thing for a lot of guys, like you said, being being the guy that that was counted on to make things happen for the team to go, it had to go through him.
Uh to being a quote role player on a on a different game changes rhythm.
Yeah, absolutely, it changes your rhythms. It changes your I mean like I was talking to a player the other day about this, you know, a young player then, but he was like struggling to try to find his footing, and it's just like you know, I mean, he's been the best player, the most talent player, and every team he's ever been on ever like with the exceptional like some like you know, traveling AU also stuff in the summer, but like by and large, top tier recruit,
you know, amazing heights player, top top notch college player, and it's like you get in the league and then it's like, oh, well, like all the stuff that I used to be doing it doesn't quite work as well now or I'm not giving the same opportunities to do it now, and so now I've got to like pick my spot. So I think, like when it comes to titnessan big picture when it comes to Lakers and it comes to like the trades that they'll look at or eventually look at, that that
is a challenge. And I think that there are still some scars, you know, from the inability to figure out the right role from Russell Russell Westbrook when I came to adding a third star. So you know, you're taking on a pretty big risk with Zach Lavine, not to mention I mean, certainly financially, but not even to mention too like the knee issues that he's
had. You know, I would not be surprised to see if their sites were set on someone a little more accustomed to playing around great players than a guy that would sort of have to learn how to do it who could do it and it might be great at it, but would certainly be learning how to do it. Hey, Dan, before we let you go, final question quickly, Clippers in San Antonio tonight you'll hear the game here on the radio station, I think at five. But you know, are they starting
to now figure it out with James Harden for sure? I mean, and I think one of the biggest things guys is like James Garden game likes underneath him. It's impossible to replicate when you're working out on your own, the stress and and what it takes cardio wise, would it takes strength wives to play an NBA game, particularly to play an NBA game with the ball in your hands? As much as James Harden has it. I think there's obviously still giant steps that need to be taken for them in terms of how to
play with one another. But but I think it's it's starting to settle a little bit. And you know this is where the like their talent should carry them well they figure out their identity. But for them to be the kind of team that they want, the kind of team that Steve Bomber is paying for, They're gonna have to eventually figure out an identity. But but right now, at least, you know, you'll settle for talent, and they've got tons of it. And real quick, Dan, real quick, are
