Welcome and Podcast Journey

C

Welcome to Robin Tony's Cinematic Adventure. I'm Rob Wilson. So Tony, we started something about a year ago.

B

Yes?

C

Let's finish it. to get one step closer to finishing it.

B

Okay.

C

Let's talk about some John Wick goodness.

B

Ooh yes, John Wick. It has been a while, hasn't it? Mm-hmm.

C

Mm-hmm. I think it was like June of last year or something. That we did uh John Wake one and two.

B

Yeah, time to get back into it. We we've covered a lot of other movies since then. The Lodvin series and different tribunal.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

But uh it's it's it's good to to get back to some good John Wick action.

C

Yes. Yes it is.

B

good some Keanu

A

Yes.

🔇 Silence

B

No, it's it's we did do have we did have a Keanu movie in between. We know we finally covered speed. Right. And you and I love some speed.

C

Yes, we do. Not the powdery speed. But yeah, the movie speed.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

With Keanu and Jeff Daniels and Dennis Hopper and Sandra Bola. And Alan Rock. Beth Grant.

D

Yeah.

C

Yeah.

B

And Ortice.

C

Yes, or tease.

D

Okay.

C

Gigantor.

John Wick's Impact and Legacy

B

But yes, uh, we also do love John Wick.

C

Yes, we do.

B

And I think a lot of people love John Wick.

D

Mm.

B

And uh it it's funny. It's uh uh yeah, ten years ago, right? You know, it was would have been It was a nice refreshing original action franchise. Especially an R rated action like franchise, right? Or movie itself was not a franchise yet. It quickly became a franchise. Now, like so many other things, it has its own universe. Yep. And at one point it was just a nice original um you would have thought maybe it just would have won off. But it became so popular it spurned a whole franchise.

C

John Wick, I think, is the definition of sleeper hit.

B

Yes. Yes.

D

Yes.

B

I it even at the time, like people thought, Oh, Keanu.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

In some, you know, kind of, you know, non major studio action movie.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

With Willem Dafoe as a co star?

C

Yeah.

B

Are are we serious?

C

This franchise did for Keanu. Or well, not this franchise, but just that movie. The first John Wick movie did the ki did for Keanu what Pulp Fiction did for John Travolta.

B

Absolutely. That's a very good comparison. I like it.

C

It completely reinvigorated his theatrical career.

B

And people read this people discover that he's just a delightful human being.

C

Yes, yes he is.

B

And no, now, you know, he uh what he did wonderful voice work for Toy Story Four, which is a movie I I'm really not a fan of, but he was like the best part of Toy Story.

C

Greatest Duke Kaboom.

B

Yeah, you know, and he's been in a whole host of other movies and he's Almost a be uh again, almost I'm not gonna say parody, but like they just kind of lean into that whole persona of Keanu now where he just sh shows up in a sp whole spattering of things. And I'll start it with just John Wick, which was when it came down to it, a pretty simple action movie. With a lot of gunfight.

C

Yeah. Yeah.

B

Yeah.

C

The proper term for it.

B

And then, you know, it uh it expanded beyond just the gun fu. Right. We learn that he is willing to kill people in a whole host of ways. I mean, they they even tell us that in the first John Wick movie, right? What you know, one of the legends of him is that he killed a guy, three guys.

C

That's three grand.

B

With a pencil.

C

A fucking pencil.

D

Mm.

B

And we get a payoff on that when he does it again at a subway station and Chapter two.

C

We see just how he was able to kill somebody with a pencil. And this movie there are Other creative ways that he uses That we'll get to when we get to that portion of the episode.

B

There are so many creative ways.

C

Uh one of them is right at the beginning of the movie.

B

Yes. But

C

Well a couple of them are right at the beginning of the movie. Yeah.

B

Yes. Yes.

D

Okay.

B

Throughout the movie. This movie gives you the occasional lull. But otherwise is like two hours and ten minutes of Keanu Reeves killing everybody.

C

In creative ways.

A

Yeah.

B

Because if the first two movies weren't enough of that

C

Yeah. I mean they gotta they gotta ramp up the kill count.

The John Wick Saga Recap

B

Right? And you know, two two up the stakes nicely, right? Mm-hmm. You know, first one again, pretty self-contained, all in New York. And we find out that he's just this hitman that was retired because he found love.

C

Yep.

B

And then she died. And he was sad. But she left him a puppy.

C

She left my puppy.

B

And I mean until decide.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

And then a couple of jackasses have to kill his puppy. Yeah. And then they steal his Mustang. Yep. Yep. And that that just won't do.

C

That damn Theon Grejoy.

B

You know, it it we we had discovered that just like Chuck Norris. If you kill his puppy and take his car You're dead.

C

Yeah. Yeah.

B

And so but then he he he kills everybody. Right? He was gonna leave it he was gonna leave it well enough alone, actually. He was just gonna kill the people responsible.

C

No, not fair.

B

They kill more people.

C

Yep, yep.

B

And then when he was done with all of them, he was gonna be done. He was gonna go back to his house. Because he found a new dog. Yep.

C

Yep.

B

And this dog would be that reminder of the other dog and that love of his wife.

C

And he not only found a new dog, but he rescued that new dog from a kill shelter.

B

Exactly. But then an old foe just couldn't let him go.

C

B. Nope. Nope.

B

And gave him one more task to do. Mm-hmm and he does said task. And then he gets betrayed by this guy. He makes a vital mist which was a a big mistake.

C

Yeah, which then

B

So it has to kill more people, including common.

C

Well we don't know for sure if he kills Commoner.

B

Yeah.

C

He stabbed Common in the o in the aorta.

B

So he could have lived the rest of his days with a knife in his eyes.

C

Well, not necessarily'cause he he had also done that same thing with the Bowery King, with Lawrence Fishburne.

B

Like back

C

Before the movies.

B

That's right.

C

And he was able to get it fixed. So Common could have been able to do that. But we don't know. But yes. He all we know is he left Common on a train with a knife in his chest.

B

I it makes me think of collateral.

C

Ja, me too.

B

I'm I'm glad he brought up the dowry king king because the second one expands out that universe though, right? We get And some new characters new including Peter Stormere who's just really in the beginning of the movie.

C

Yep.

B

Um But then we get the Barry King, which reunites Keanu with Lawrence Fishburne. And he becomes a very vital figure for the rest of the series, as we'll find out. Uh and you know we we get some other people, you know, we have a couple other assassins and it brings us to Rome, right? So we're not just in the US, we're in Rome. We meet a lovely Somalier.

C

My favorite character in all of the movies. He should have been in more of them.

B

Right. But you know, expands out that universe a bit, right? Uh we get to see the Rome Continental. And then finally though, it ends with John Wick breaking one of the Cardinal rules. of this League of Assassins and just the just the entire underworld altogether, right? It introduces us to the concept of the table.

C

The high tape.

B

Right. And they're the ones that oversee kind of all different syndicates and underworld organizations and Um, this series of hotels where assassins and other mob people, thieves or whatever can go and uh stay with without fear of reprisal. Mm-hmm. And one of those is that you can't be Can't conduct business on those grounds, right? You're safe there, right? They have a doctor that we met in the first movie that will help heal you up under the tape, though.

C

Uh another uh Ah what's the word I'm looking for? Why why am I drawing a blank on this word? Um reunion. That's the word I'm looking for. Reunion.

C

Another.

B

Matrix.

C

Yes he was. He was the key maker.

B

He was the keymaker. And so but I wonder no, but the end, John Willick, he is so angry at this guy for betraying him that he kills him. on continental ground. And the movie ends with him being ex kaminicado.

C

Well he it ends with him.

B

Then about to be.

C

It ends with...

B

I mean one hour head start.

C

He's given one hour head start but before his excommunicado becomes like goes into effect.

B

And that's what ends on how the movie ends. He is running away with the dog.

C

Meanwhile everybody's cell phones are going off'cause there's a There's a bounty on his head that's about to s about to go live.

B

Yeah, what what a nice place to end it, right? And so that's where we've been stuck ourselves now with our series with him for this last year. And wondering what's gonna happen in that one hour.

Chapter 3: Prepare for War

C

So those of you listening that uh have waited for Johnwick chapter three Parabellum Which by the way, I don't think we ever said that that's what movie we're talking about right now.

D

Yeah.

A

Ha ha ha.

B

That might be the record for the longest time it's making to actually say the movie we've we've been doing.

C

It might be. But yes, we are talking about John Wick chapter three parabellum. if you have waited until we've talked about this movie to watch it,

B

Good for you.

C

Good for you for keeping that cliffhanger for almost a year.

D

Yeah.

B

You know it's Yeah, I mean like good yeah, good on you if you haven't watched it. You know, granted we had the weights up in like three years. Yeah. Between movies.

C

Yeah, something like that.

B

But, you know, the... The series grew in stature within even that three years, right? You know, to the point where again, like he was a new John Wick became this new movie icon. Which is an impressive thing that you know, considering the wholly original character, right? One of the few great like original action kind of characters of the, you know, twenty first century, right? Mm-hmm.

I mean there's other characters that have um kind of become icons themselves, right? Um but based off other characters, like you know, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. Yeah. Right? You know, um the closest ones I would I would kinda throw out there, and again, they're also not original because they were very deep cuts in the comics, would be the Guardians of the Galaxy.

C

Yes.

B

Um So but you know, like how do you define those is Uh a little different because you know it's again, I mean, those are you had to be a deep nerf dum. Yes. No who. Yeah.

C

Yeah. But as far as like original characters that are basically defined by an actor.

B

Right. And that's the other part.

C

Indiana Jones. That was an original original character that was personified by Harrison Ford.

B

She lost her Persona 5 in Han Solo.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

You got Segorney Weaver personifying Ellen Ripley. Mm-hmm. Right. Um, you know, you got Arnold Schwarzenegger. With the defining the the terminator.

C

Yeah, I mean these all these roles that you really can't see anybody else playing.

B

John McLean defining

C

Yeah. Bruce Willis defining John McClane. Yeah.

D

Yeah.

B

Didn't diesel defining Dominic Toretto.

C

No, I thought you were gonna say Vin Diesel the finding triple X.

A

Ha ha ha.

D

Ha ha.

B

Not sure I'd elevate Vin Diesel at all to that other level, but still. In some ways he kinda is up there in his own unique way. Um Yeah. So But yeah, it's uh yeah. And but yeah, the third movie cut came out in twenty nineteen and it lived up to the promise of the first two movies. And more, as we talked about. Yeah.

C

Yeah.

B

And it go it goes broader, right? We had really New York and Rome in the second movie, right? We got New York, then New York and Rome. Now going like New York. And Casablanca. The desert. That's right.

D

Ha ha ha.

C

Back to New York.

B

Back to New York, right? What's the fourth one gonna do?

C

We'll see.

B

It goes even bigger. But you gotta wait to next week.

C

Until next week for that one.

B

But and you know what, this movie also s introduces more new characters, right? Angelica Houston joins the cast. uh characters in this one, right? We have an even deeper dive into this world where we get introduced to um an adjudicator. Well who is that? Well you gotta listen to the episode to find out. That we don't know.

C

She's played by Asia Kate Dillon.

B

Yep. Um, and just more in terms of the general

A

Um

B

mythology and inner workings of this world, particularly that of the table. Oh yeah, we also get Halle Berry. Halle Berry gets introduced to us.

C

This movie.

B

We get Halle Berry in this movie.

C

We get Mark DiCostco. Which I love his character.

B

By the way.

D

Ha ha ha ha.

B

There's a lot to say about his character. I love his character and yeah. Mm-hmm.

C

You know, we got another uh Game of Thrones alum in this movie. You know, we we got Jerome Flint.

B

That's right. Me too.

C

And once again Lance Redick uh reprises his role as Charon, the concierge.

B

McShane is obviously back in it again as Winston. Right. And as we mentioned earlier, Lawrence Fishburne is back in this. Um with a slightly smaller role than what he had in John Wick Two, but it's a very important role that he again has.

C

And another actor. is in this movie that was also that is also a part of one of the podcasts that we mention fairly frequently. The uh how did this get made podcast.

B

All right.

C

Jason Matsukis is in this movie.

B

Oh yeah, TikTok, man.

C

Mm-hmm. Tick tock, Mr. Wick. Pretty much his only line and he says it all o all kind of like over and over in this movie.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

But yeah, it's it's another wonderful adventure into the uh the world of assassins. And It's quite enjoyable. And yeah, it's you know, it was received well enough that you had to have a four. And it was a good thing because the way it ends, you kinda had to have a four. Yeah.

A

Yeah.

B

Because he's just not done killing enough people.

C

Nope.

B

And enough people have not gotten the message yet that these...

C

Just leave him alone. Just leave John Wick alone.

B

Screw the rules. The rules should just be, you know what?

C

There should be one rule and it's don't mess with John Wick.

B

It's If there was a Russian terrorist in this movie, he would be having nightmares about John Wick. Yes.

C

I mean there weren't necessarily Russian terrorists in the first John Wick, but there were Russian assassins and they were having nightmares about John Wick.

B

Is it it's like when you get you know You know, it's like when John Ligasamo calls up about, you know

C

Oh.

B

John Wicks.

C

Oh.

B

And he almost made the right decision. He almost made the right decision just like, you know what? He's just gonna have to kill my son. But he decided to not leave it at that. And thus we've had four movies. His decision just that you know, we could have just not had an entire series. We could have had a short little film where Keanu Reed

C

Yeah.

B

Avenge is the death of a dog. If, right? Yusuf had it without Yusuf, his dad just would have just said, you know what? Kill my son. He's stupid. But no, he didn't. And said thus thus we had four movies. It's kinda like the

C

Or wonderful.

B

But kind of the guy beginning a new hope. It's like, oh, no. There's no life forms on board. We're not gonna

C

We're not gonna waste a laser.

D

Ha ha.

B

But then we got three wonderful movies after that. And depending on who you talk to, you know, and we can we can discuss the r the rest of them.

A

Ha ha ha.

B

Anyway. I don't have a whole lot else to say before we really dive into the

C

Yes, but

B

Maybe but anyway, go on. No.

C

I w I was just gonna say uh very nice synopsis of the previous two movies.

B

Yes, yeah, I th I think we've had two.

C

Yes, we have to.'Cause it's been a year. So yeah, we need we need to have a brief synopsis going into this one.

B

And it runs straight into the third.

C

Yes it does.

B

So

C

Yeah, this one picks up the the third one picks up right after the second one. Like immediately after.

B

And I I love that this has a like a s actual title to the chapter. Yeah. The other one's just John Wick chapter two. This one is John Wick chapter three parabellum, like you said. So

C

And then they go back to just chapter four for the next one. But I mean, I

B

It fits.

C

Though with this one.

B

It it really fits because it's also perfect for what happens for the fourth movie, which we'll get to because that's again, we gotta go through

C

Yeah.

B

This entire movie.

C

For those that don't know what parabella means, it's Latin for prepare for

B

for war. Prepare for war. And really there's a there's a larger phrase which gets uttered later in the movie. We'll bring it up when it happens like if you want peace, prepare for war. Yeah. So, but yeah, you know, the balloon, right? Again, if you think about Gone with the Wind, you know right, classic movie about the anti-baloom period.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Right. But there you go. Only kind of think of that because Ted Turner just died and He was a big fan of Gone with the Whip.

C

Yeah. Still never seen Gone with the Wind.

B

Vachum parabellum.

C

Sicvis Pocket Parabellum.

B

So anyway, but yeah, I think I'm ready to get into it when you are.

C

Alright, let's talk about some John Wick Chapter Three Parabellum. As always, spoiler alert, we're going to be talking about this entire movie, beginning, middle, and end. So if you have not seen it, you don't want to be spoiled, keep then pause the podcast, watch the movie, and come back and listen. If you have seen it or you just don't mind being spoiled, keep on listening. But we are gonna be spoiling all of the goodness. Of all of the creative kills in this movie.

B

Including not the There's a while I creative kills. This movie might have the record also for the most nutshots.

C

Yeah. Yeah, it might. It might

B

That's just guns, there's fist, there's feet, there's nigh

The Importance of Dogs

C

There's Dolphins. Which by the way, I I I love how this entire series I love the importance that they put on dogs in this m in these movies.

B

Yes. So do I. I I agree with that.

C

You know, not even just as the inciting incident for the entire series.

B

Oh yeah, snow. I mean that

C

Um but just I love how like they hold dogs in such high regard in the in these movies. Awesome.

🔇 Silence

B

The movie does start with John Wick running with his dog. The dog that he rescued like we that we mentioned earlier.

C

The one that the one that he just calls dog.

B

Because he has not had time to name his dog yet.

C

He just got this dog like two days ago.

D

Ha ha.

B

It's like

D

Ha ha ha ha.

C

Ha ha.

D

Yeah.

B

And they're already attached to it.

C

Yeah.

B

They have a mutual trust with the with each other. Mm-hmm.

D

Yeah.

C

In with Sharon.

B

Yes.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

Yes, exact yes, this dog instinctively trusts Sharon, as he we we will discover shortly. And Sharon already loves this stuff.

C

Caron loves this dog.

D

Yeah.

C

Like this is Sharon's favorite dog.

D

Yeah.

B

They uh but they're running, and so we're still within that hour time period that Winston gave the John. Right.

C

There's like maybe ten, fifteen minutes left in it.

B

Yep. And we we know we we've had the whole smattering of uh you talked about earlier how, you know, when they put a contract there think these ladies with these old call boards and switches and you know this writing about chalkboards about different open contracts. So we're we're getting a view of all that again. And then you know we have Winston arriving at the Continental. Sharana's waiting for him.

C

And John real quick. John has a uh real quick. John has a fourteen million dollar contract on his head. Fourteen million dollar price on it.

B

Um and yeah, Winston gets out of a Rolls Royce, right? Because he's classy like that. And Sharron's there and they're just talking and about the incident. And Sharon's asked, like It's like fourteen million dollar bounty bounty. Yeah, that's you know, next thing I kinda like. What do you think his odds are? And Winston's just casual is like he's got the whole city looking after him at such a large contract. I'd say the odds are about even.

C

He knows John Wick.

D

Yeah.

B

So while he's running, you know, it's it's raining and John With decides he's getting somewhere. He knows you can tell he's in he knows exactly where he wants to go. And he's trying to save time so he gets in a cat. But then the cab gets stuck in this traffic jam.

And so we realize quickly that the this cab driver is someone's in the whole underworld and he gives him a gold coin and says, Well, at first he asked him to take him to the New York public library. New York Public Library. But he says, Oh, change a plan. You know, the continent, the New York continent. Right. And like drop him off with the concierge, make sure he's taken care of. So he leaves the cab, he says goodbye to dog. Mm-hmm. Right. You know, and then, you know, again.

The ta the ca taxi driver eventually makes it to the continental and Sharana's there waiting.

C

She's there waiting, and the taxi the cab driver comes around, opens the door, and dog is sitting there. In the seat. And just hops down and goes and and and greets uh greets Sharon. Then Sharon takes him inside.

B

And he's gonna get in some food. They're gonna you know they maybe they'll place it with ball down in the gym.

C

Maybe?

B

Right, you have a nice little rubber ball he's gonna throw against the wall and Yeah. You know, yeah. Who knows? We you know, it might be a nice time.

C

So but we do know that dog is going to be taken care of.

D

Yeah.

C

Because Sharon is the one watching him. And he is not gonna let John Wick down.

B

He is not gonna let If anything happened to the dog, first, like he he doesn't want to get hurt by John Wick. Yeah. Because he knows what happened.

C

But also if anything.

B

Also fear to for the person that did something to the dog.

C

Yes. Because he would not only have John Witt coming after him, but he'd have Sharon coming after him too. And later in the movie we'll see what that looks like. Not that somebody does anything to dog, but we'll see what what a team up between the two of them looks like.

D

Ha ha.

B

He's not just a kindly it's not your normal kindly concierge that can recommend and get you reservations at the finest table in the city.

C

Yeah.

Library Fight and Doctor's Aid

B

Oh I mean like so John Wick gets a New York Public Library and he waits in line and he goes up to this librarian and he wants to know where this particular book uh this Russian literature book is, right? She tells them where it is. And I can't quite tell if she is also, you know, like a librarian that has the info on

C

I would imagine

B

Probably she's just a normal kind of stuck up librarian.

C

I mean I would imagine she's probably somewhat involved. In all this seems to be

D

Yeah.

B

So She tells him where it is and he goes off to this floor and this these stacks and he has about five minutes left, what right? And he goes and he gets the book. He opens it up and it's you know hollowed out book, right? And he's got uh some gold coins in there, he's got

C

It's got a marker in there.

B

Is he's got a mar he's got a marker in there. Yep. And he's gone.

C

Yeah, yeah, picture of him and Helen, his wife.

B

Uh is it a hell is it a picture of him and Helen and these large ass rosary beads?

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Right, which has more like of kind of the Eastern Orthodox kind of um um cross on there as opposed to kind of traditional Western kind of crucifix you would see on other Rosier beans. Right? And so he kisses the the photo, he puts it back in the book, and he puts it nicely back on the shelf. And then he turns around and this is a giant ass dude.

C

This has pictures of his wife hidden all over the city.

B

I don't play them.

C

I mean. But yeah, so he hears a voice.

B

And it could Dante. Yes.

C

This voice that quotes Dante.

B

Slovenly tall looking, you know, giant dude called Ernst. Played by Bobin. Uh

C

Ober Marjanvik.

B

Yeah, this

C

Okay, so

B

He is a basketball player um that has occasionally acted.

C

Yeah.

B

Right. He is from Serbia.

C

He is like seven foot something. four. Seven four.

B

This is what's crazy to me is

C

So an inch taller than Peter Mayhew.

B

He would have been 31 years old when this movie was released. Okay. Um maybe, you know, yeah, 31. He was born in 1988. Dude looks like he's 50 in this movie. Yeah.

C

Yeah it does.

B

Anyway.

C

Anyway, he

B

John Wick looks at him, he's like, I still have two minutes.

C

Well he has a little more than two minutes. He's like I think he said ten minutes. I still have ten minutes.

B

That's right. He's like, are are you sure you want to do this?

A

Yeah.

B

And he could tell he is trying to give this guy away.

C

He's trying to give him a way out. He's trying to give him a chance to go.

B

He he knows Ernst.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

They're not friends, but They're also not frenemies. They're not enemies either, but you get the sense that in general, John Wick doesn't really like him a whole lot. Yeah. And doesn't respect him. but he's still trying to get...

C

I'm still trying to give him a chance. And

B

Ernst was like uh.

C

He's like, No one will know. And so Ernst attacks him. And John defends himself.

B

Yeah. He's able to get a good you know, he's able to he he gets a knife and he slashes at the John, you know, it's kind of you know the um upper chest towards the neck. Mm-hmm. Right.

C

But yeah, sorta stabs him in the in the shoulder area there. And uh So John grabs a book, a nice big, thick book. And he starts fighting him with the book.

A

Yeah.

B

And he starts able to he pushes him like against one of the stacks and you know he just starts hitting him in the head with this thick.

C

Thick buck.

B

And he starts shoving it into his mouth. Uhhuh. Yeah. Repeatedly.

C

Yeah. He's like sticks it in his mouth and he just starts hitting the back of it.

B

Hit he starts hitting the back. It's like he's got the his like hair it's you know, so he has him held against the stack and then he just all over the book in the guy's mouth and he just starts hitting the back of it with you know the spine of it like with his hands right

C

And so

B

And finally.

C

No, it stumbles up and knocks him over a little bit and so they're they're still fighting.

B

He might do after be being repeatedly knocked in the head with a book. Yeah.

C

But Ern still hasn't fighting him, so he's still fighting John. And finally John puts that stands that book up on its end. On the on a table. And and pushes Ernst down so his neck is on the on the book, on the top of the book, and then he just hits him in the head and breaks his neck over the book.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

Yeah. Ernst Ernst should have known. Yes.

C

Yes, he should have known.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Yeah.

C

He should have known. John gave him a way out. But no, he he had to drop the gun.

B

And he paid for it his life. Mm-hmm. He could have decided, you know what? I'm just gonna sit back. I'm gonna stay in my Soho apartment. I'm gonna watch Say Yes to the Dress tonight. Yeah. Yeah.

C

Maybe some project runway also?

B

And you know what? I'll call on I'll call on early evening after that. But no. John Wick still has a few minutes left though, but he has been slashed again, like we talked about.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

And so he's not going to be able to do

C

You know what would be funny? If that book was Dante's Inferno Somebody can call Alanis Morissette and tell her that that would be irony. That would be a good thing.

D

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha.

C

Not a black fly in your chardonnay.

B

No. The only ironic thing about that song is that none of it is ironic.

C

Well, I mean the one the one part about, you know, the guy who waited his whole life to take that flight. Okay. That's the one ironic part of that of that song.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

He goes up into this, you know, building, right? And again, he's got like two minutes left as he gets to this door, right? And it's the doctor we talked about earlier. He was not in John Book chapter two. He was only in the first one, and now he again he shows up here in John With chapter three. Mm-hmm.

And he implores this doctor'cause he has that gold coin, one gold coin. Yep. Yep. And he gives it to him. Right. And he realizes that, you know, he's he nicked the artery a little bit. So he starts spatching him up and

C

And the point is they're watching the time because he's got like two minutes.

B

And thankfully, you know, this this clock he has is time to the actual clock. Like they all use atomic clocks apparently.

C

Yeah.

B

Apparently. Right. And he's getting down to the last couple stitches and then it chimes. Right? It's like I got it's like I gotta stop job.

A

Right.

B

It's like okay. And

C

And so John finishes.

B

Off right. He takes the little the light in the mirror and he comes around and he just sews the rest of himself up. Mm-hmm. Bites off the little the stitches.

C

Yeah, bites off the thread. And then he goes over to the shelf where the doctor has all of the meds. Right.

B

And he can't quite find exactly what he needs. So the doctor tells him what he needs, uh you know

C

Get that one, take one now Take one now Take one every couple of hours. And then John.

B

Then he turns around.

C

Turns to go and leave, and the doctor has a gun. He pulled a gun out of the drawer and he hands it to the door.

B

Never believe I stopped you I stopped on the time. But you did.

C

It's like yeah, but they'll know I helped you find the Mets. And so John's like Okay and meanwhile the the doctor hands John the gun and he starts

B

Down back on that on that chair.

C

He pulls up his shirt a little bit.

B

Should be here just under my floating rib, but don't hit my large intestine.

C

And then before he can before he can get all that out, he's like right here, just below my floating rib, but don't hit my and then John pulls the trigger and shoots him right there below his floating rib. And then

B

I was like, no, no, no.

C

So he's like right here, so he goes right above his like right below his collarbone.

D

Ha ha

C

And so John just shoots him right there. And then thanks the doctor and leaves.

B

I love the good doctor. Very minor character, but one of my favorites within the within the uh the series, right? But now time is up. Right. And you know, we we've had shots of Winston watching this as well. And so we cut to you know John Wicke, he's fleeing and all of a sudden you know we we see this gang of um four or five at first they see him and they chase him through different alleyways and he gotta goes through like this little uh kind of like laundromat.

Custom Guns and Knife Fury

He gets him in this building and then he locks this door. Right? You're looking like this thing has a whole array of display cases and guns and knives and other weaponry. Right. And he has a little bit of time because he he was able to flee fast enough and he's locked the door. And he is we found out that he's quite the gunsmith himself.

A

Yes.

C

So yeah, so he's pulling out all these different guns from the case and he's taking them apart and like just creating a hybrid gun, basically.

B

Yes.

C

Creating an amalgamation of all these different guns. You know, taking the cylinder from one, the frame from another, the barrel from another. You know, and he's Just so he could get this one bullet to fit.

B

Yep, there's one bullet. What what I love about this too though is like why why is it I mean it really shows like How skilled he is.

C

Mm-hmm.

B

One of the things we haven't talked about a lot is like the music in this series is amazing. And the music they're doing here is like this kind of like neo-western music. And I love as soon as he finally gets it gun, he gets it right. Yep. And it has this kind of cool little guitar twang, as it does like June June, right?

C

And the very he very you know, carefully picks the gun up and he he starts to cock the hammer real slowly so he can hear all the clicks to make sure it's all put together right. And then the door opens up, he drops that round in the in the cylinder, spins it shoots.

B

Yeah.

C

He he spins a cylinder. There's one bullet that he puts in this thing. He spins it Russian roulette style. And then just shoots him. She shoots the guy walking to the door.

B

And everybody else goes in, poor guy, don't be the first one in when you're trying to get on a John Wick.

C

No.

B

He must be the rookie.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

We we you know they they follow him into this room and on either side of this room There's these display cases of hatchets and knives and throwing stars and

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Oh other types of blades.

C

Yeah.

B

And so what I'd love is like they spent like a good sixty seconds on the With the two minutes showing him can you know, yeah. Make a gun to fit the specific bullet. One bullet.

C

Yeah. And he fires that one bullet, then he just drops the gun and runs in the next room.

B

And then the entire set piece is not about that gun. It's a

C

Knife fight. It's a knife fight. And not just like slashing each other, it's a throwing knife fight. They're breaking these cases, these glass cases, and they're pulling knives out of the kids.

B

Yeah, throwing it at each other.

C

What I love about this is so most movies, when you have somebody throwing a knife, it's always a perfect throw, it always sticks in'em. Everything. This one, about half the knives don't even stick. Like they the handle hits them.

B

Handle hits them

C

You know, yeah. I it's not perfect throat. Several of them does. But yeah, so they're just throwing these knives at each other and You know, they're starting to look like pincushions, but they're still coming at each other.

B

I I love the one guy, you know, he's able to kinda get more like you know, close contact and he kinda stabs him and then he kinda turns around as one of the other guy's buddies is throwing knives at him. And so he's just letting that guy become a pincushion and he's seeing Like five or six knot six knives just stuck in this guy's back, right?

We get a shot there also where like John Wick is on the ground, he's kinda spread eagle, as one guy tries to throw a hatchet at him, it it almost gets him the balls, but stops just short, right?

D

Ha ha.

B

But then we get again we talked about no nutshots in this movie. We get one way, John Wick does get an axe and he just splits a guy.

C

Well it's the guy's crotch right in half. And then you know, it all it comes down to There's one guy left and he's He's got knives all over like stuck in him all over.

B

the one guy that he shoves a little blade in through his eyes.

C

Oh yes, he does.

B

They can close.

C

Yeah.

D

No

A

Ha ha.

B

Yeah. He's just not over again.

C

Down.

B

I like it.

C

This display case, and he he's not coming after John. He's not. He's just laying there, unable to move really. He just turns his head toward John. And John just throws his hatchet from across the room and sticks right into the guy's head and he drops. So John gets up and he leaves that that building.

Horse Escape in New York

And he goes to the stable.

B

Yeah,'cause there's more people chasing after him. So it goes to stable. It's like I Horses for Central Park or the horses, the cops' horses, whatever it's a stable.

C

Yeah, stable right in the middle of New York City.

B

There's still people chasing.

C

And so he goes in there and there's people chasing him. And there's a horse. And so he decides that he's gonna use this horse as a weapon.

B

April.

C

And so when people are coming at him, you know, he goes to one side of the horse and he smacks the horse's butt and it kicks.

B

Perfectly.

C

No, just s right in the head.

D

Yeah.

B

Right in the head. There's two guys he does this to. And then finally the third one, like he wraps this rope around the guy's neck and attaches it to the horse.

C

And then you have some.

B

Snacks in the butt. And he just drags the

C

Takes off, he rides his horse out of the stable and dragging the guy and the guy Hits some crates and barrels and stuff and you know, smacks into the wall of the stable as John Wick leaves on the horse. And so he's riding this horse through the street. And there are people that have motorcycles. There's a guy on a motorcycle chasing'em.

B

It's so cool. This movie has a motorcycle chase with a horse. Middle of New York at night. Yes.

C

And so this guy rides up next to John and he's got a gun. So John sort of he he slides over and he's hanging on the side of this horse. So the guy can't see him. There's a horse blocking him. John pulls out his gun and puts it in front of the horse. And shoots the guy.

D

Ha ha.

C

And then, you know, climbs back up in the saddle.

D

What?

B

There's still other guys trying trying to get at him and I get he either shoots them or rams them off the road'cause they're motorcycles. Just needs to hit them and they just they go f somersaulting off. Right. And he eventually is able to escape from all of these guys. Okay. I I love the Wikipedia energy for this. Like we we spent a nice time talking about this.

They have a nice concise summary, if that's more of your liking. Upon leaving, he is quickly pursued by various gangs of assassins, all of whom he kills.

D

Thank you.

B

Short, sweet, but you know what? I like talking about it. So So, um...

Seeking Help: The Director

Yeah, this the so we're yeah, we stick with John first. We don't we don't go back to the continental yet. We stick with John, right? So we see where he is headed is this theater. And we can tell there is an Eastern European lady working a ticket stand up. It's the classic theater where you have the rounded ticket booth outside and these

C

Right.

B

And she said, sorry, we're closed, right? And then he holds up the room.

C

That rosary.

B

It's like I have a ticket. And then, you know, he's allowed in and we see that there is on the stage this girl um practicing ballet. Mm hmm. Or there's several people practice. No, it's not

C

No, it's just the one. Yeah, just the one girl.

B

And you know, and Angelica Houston is watching her. And Nikola, she is serious, she is demanding.

C

The girl she falls over and Angelica Houston says again.

B

Yes. She just is ready to to be done, right? And we never get Angelica's name in this. We just know that she's the director. And she leads the Rooscaroma, right? And

A

She is the

B

decides to, you know, grant a you know, she decides she will grant an audience to John Wick. She doesn't have to because he is excommunicado, after all.

C

Maybe she even mentions that. She's like, You're ex communicata, you can't be here. Right. He pulls out that rosary's like, I have a ticket.

B

I have a ticket. It's like, but no we don't we don't need to honor that. Again, you know like you know it's like my family. I am owed. Right. It's like you you were an orphan, right? So you know, we're getting some actual backstory to John Wicknack. This right, you could tell like he is Eastern European origin that he was an orphan that was taken in by.

C

He was part of the

B

Risk Aroma.

C

The Risk Aroma from Belarus and

B

And you know, and then, you know, she decides she'll agrees that they will tear his ticket, right? Which essentially means like giving him safe passage. But like, you know, she says she warns him about it also, right? So as they're doing this, they're walking through other areas of this theater and you're seeing these boys wrestling. Like you can see like they're good it's late at night and they're doing some intense training. Mm-hmm. And it's again it's probably something like one o'clock.

C

Yeah.

B

In the morning.

C

Yeah. Right. And as they're walking by they see these guys, you know, doing Martial arts training and stuff and doing judo, I guess, is what they're doing there. Or it looks like Judo or Jiu Jitsu. Um but Yeah, as they're walking by Angelica Houston is like Remind you of your childhood?

B

I l I love her character. Like she's she gets like two kind of shorter scenes, but she's such a great actress and she's so like perfect for

C

Yeah. Right. She's great in this movie.

B

They go back into this d like back room, right? They can tell his other members there and this is this one guy with all these um he's got these piercings and face tack. He looks intense, right? And they have a fire going in there. He gets a poker, right? And they have their symbol on there, right?

And they give John something to bite down on, right? They rip open the you know the the top part of the back of his shirt and she just tells like with this, your ticket is torn, right? And they just break

C

Random.

D

Right.

B

And now, you know, she's okay, okay. It's like, yeah, all right, they'll help you, you know, they'll prepare you for your journey. Right. He wants to go to Casablanca's for.

C

He wants to go to Casablanca.

B

Because he wants to meet Humphrey Burgard. Because he hears he has a cool bar there and he hides people.

C

Ja, he does.

B

Why wouldn't they go there? Right. So I don't blame them.

C

Anyway, so he wants this to be the start of a beautiful friendship.

🔊 Screaming

B

So we we stop a little bit with John Whipper right now though, right? We gotta go back to the continental.

D

Mm-hmm.

High Table's Adjudicator Arrives

B

So remember once it rolls up and it rolls right. Next thing we see a car roll up and then it's a Mercedes. So saying you know it's a Mercedes, you know, whoever's gonna get out of that car is not gonna be very likable.

C

Yeah.

B

That's how it always works in movies. Yep. You drive a Mercedes are probably not a likable character.

C

Yeah. That's accurate.

B

And so she walks up to Charron. And she puts a different type of coin down. And he looks at it, he's like, Oh boy. You you can tell by the look of his face this is not good.

C

Yeah.

B

So he called it's like I want to speak with the manager. It's like, Of course. And he calls Woodstone. Sick sir, there's a adjudicator here to see you. At this point, you know, like once it's like a boy. And his face his face, too's like, okay. Right. And so Sharon tells her where she can find the the manager, Winston.

Right. And he is down actually in the basement, right? Although he's not in the basement yet. They meet somewhere else. They meet in one of the lounges that he has and I hear it's a dud deal. Right? I was like, a member of the high table was killed on her grounds. Right? And before we get to that, we said, as we said earlier, uh the adjudicator is played by Asia Kate Dillon. Right. And she's just got this very serious look on her. She wears one long dangling earring. Right.

And she looks very pale, almost not quite ghost like, but

C

Yeah, very pale.

B

It's like, you know, it's like, oh, I want to see where, you know, you know, where it happened. It's like I want to be to see where it happened. Like, where you didn't kill John Wet. See I was under the impression that I you know didn't have to kill'em. I made an ex gnicata.

C

And she's like, But you gave him an hour head start.

B

It's like, okay.

C

It's like this is my my hotel. I can do what I want. Yeah, I can handle excommunicado how I want when they happen at my hotel.

B

He takes her down to see the body and she looks at it and they continue this conversation and she just finally tells him I'm gonna be room I'm gonna be room two seventeen. And you have one week to get your affairs in order, and then we'll see about you keeping your hotel. Remember, like we all have the rules for a reason. Right? He's like, Yeah, they keep us from being the animals, right? He's like he's like, Yeah. It's like, you know, well, you know, enjoy your week at the Continental.

Casablanca: Sofia's Marker

And we're gonna discover that she will spend that week in various ways, but we can get to that in a little bit because we have to cut back to John. He makes it a castle.

C

Mixed Casablanca. Right away, he gets attacked. But then... He's defended. by some guys that are gonna take him to the Casablanca Cont Continental. They were sent to protect him. By the manager of the Castle Blanca Continental, who we want to be.

B

Kind of feels like he gets second thoughts about this and tries to attack John. And then that guy little guy shoots.

C

The other guy shoots that guy. So then he takes John to the manager, and the manager is none other than Halle Berry.

B

Who knew Halle Berry would rise so high in the world to be the director of a count of the coun of a continental? Yes.

C

So she plays Sophia. Not Stel Getty's character in Golden Girls.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

No, no. Although I couldn't imagine.

C

That was hood C. Stalgetty being the manager of a Continental.

B

Remember, like she was I mean told us to stop or she would shoot.

C

Yes. What if the Golden Palace is a continental?

D

Ha ha ha. Ha ha

B

Right. You can tell there's a history between these two. And you can tell as much you can tell there's is a deep respect that she has for John, but she's none too happy with him. Not just because he's showing up there excommunicado and what that could mean, right? There's definitely a whole web of things where she is Pulling some serious grudges against him.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

But remember, as we said a little bit earlier, he has a marker.

C

Any problem? Don't you dare pull that out.

B

Don't you He's like... And no, like the like this is like your word, right? You know, he doesn't go into it the way

D

Mm-hmm.

B

that Santino did back in John Wick Two. He doesn't manipulate her in a way that he was. But he you know, he implores to the better side of her nature. And so what we find out is that he helped her daughter get far away. Right.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

So she would be free from this entire web of Bad stuff.

C

Yeah.

B

And even asked her, like, do you want to know where she is? It's like, if I found out where she was. I would have to kill myself because that information would be too dangerous because I yeah, right.

C

I can't know where she is.

B

I can't know where she is because I would try to find her and that puts her in danger.

A

Right?

B

And then so she reluctantly agrees, and now she puts her um he puts his you know um no doesn't do it yet because it the task has her task has to be completed. Right?

D

Mm-hmm.

B

He's like, you know, it's like that and he's like, she's like, once this is done, we will be very far from even still, right? Because again, he's inviting a lot of danger. Right. But all he's really looking for is really one specific piece of information. He is look excuse me. He is looking to speak with somebody called The elder. And the elder is someone that sits above the table.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Yep.

C

Right. The elder.

B

And he is, you know, his idea is either, you know, he's gonna try to convince him just to lift. Allow him to have a happy life again. Not happy life again, but No, where not one where he doesn't have to keep running away from everything.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Right? And Sophia doesn't know where he is. He knows that he's like in North Africa. But he she knows the guy that knows where the elder will be. Yes.

C

So she takes into him. This is Jerome Flynn.

B

As Barada.

C

And also what we didn't mention is Sophia has two dogs. And

B

They go with her with her. Yes.

C

They're

B

They not they're not German shepherds, they're um Belgian Um Milanos. I'm probably pronouncing that last word slightly incorrectly, but they're like German Shepherds, they look like German Shepherds, but they're a little bit leaner than but more aggressive than Shepard.

C

Shorter hair than Jeremy Shepard's.

B

Shepherds, right?

D

Mm mm.

B

Like a German Shepherd, like yeah, it it could be, you know, it's used by cops, right? You know, for good reason. But um it's also gonna be a good family dog. Like these I wouldn't quite the the can be a little bit more aggressive, right? Anyway, but they're they're good guard dogs. And they meet Barada. And Barata has a club. And he's at the top of his club. You know having a nice conversation at first. But Virada's just saying, well well, you know, if you wanna find uh

You know, you don't really it's not it's not easy to go just find the owner, right? You gotta go to the desert and walk as far as you can until you get tired, you pass out, and then he will find deal. That's what he tells him. Right. And you know, you can tell that, you know. He he could allow them to you know, he could just kill them on the spot, but he allows them at first just so you know, that's gonna be it. But then he decides he needs payment for this information. Yes.

And he is really eyeing one of the dogs.

🔇 Silence

C

And so he

B

So I think I'll take it.

C

Yeah.'Cause you know, Sophia allowed him to pet one of the dogs. He's like, I think I'll keep this dog. And Sophia's like, No, you're not taking my dog. Hm. So he shoots the dog.

B

Yep.

C

And Sophia, you know. Drops down on the ground and checks on the dog and luckily both of these dogs are wearing bulletproof vests. And so she finds the bullet stuck in the vest. And so the dog is fine. I mean I'm sure it's, you know, in pain from you know the force of getting a shot in the vest.

B

But

C

The bullet did not actually get through the vest.

B

This ended up being a very bad idea by Barada.

C

Mm-hmm. Yes, because John looks down and he sees that Sophia has a gun. And he tries to tell her, don't do it. But Parada just tried to kill her dog.

B

See and you know he's saying this is like you know, it's like this won't end if you try to kill her kill like I I d I know. That's why I'm here.

D

Yeah.

B

I want to be back on Long Island or New Jersey. Sitting on my couch eating corn pops in my underwear. Yeah.

C

But I can't do that because some Recent member of the high table blew up my house.

B

Along with my entire Chuck Norris collection.

C

Well the Chuck Norris collection is fine. It survived the explosion because it's Chuck Norris.

B

Yeah, it's a truck door. But he can't watch it right now.

C

No, he has no TV.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

So but then she decides she can't leave it there and she calls on the dogs to attack. Right. And this is where we get the dog chopping down on

C

Mm-hmm.

B

And it's not it's not letting go. It's locked off.

C

It's locked on.

D

Ha ha

C

And so they get into a gunfight.

B

Ja.

C

With Paradas guys.

B

Yeah, I th they're advancing down levels. They get everybody up on that rooftop.

C

Right.

B

And again, we're getting all sorts of gunplay. Here this is all gunplay. Well, gunplay and dog bites.

C

Yes, gunplay and dog bites because after that dog finally lets go of Barata, there's just this just the front he's wearing white pants. He should have worn red pants. Because his white pants become red pants from the crotch.

B

Looks like he's on his period.

C

Yeah. So

B

He's somehow not passed out. I mean a dog just basically He's drunk.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Right. He should be bleeding profusely for on his crotch.

C

Anyway.

B

Yeah. And but yeah. So he has the guys go after them, right? And we're just having both Halle Berry and John Wick just shooting Everybody that comes at'em, right? Occasionally they get caught in a corner and the dog comes up. Right there and just starts mauling one of the guys. Yeah.

C

Like this whole time, so while while Sophia is shooting people, while Sophia and John are shooting people, Sophia is just yelling commands at these dogs. And they are just charging at at, you know, these other guys. They're you know, somebody's about to shoot John and a dog mauls him.

D

Right.

C

Or there's these guys hiding behind a wall and the dogs just jump over the wall and attack'em.

B

Right. I love the like I love how there's like those little like these steep stairwells stairways on the outside of this place. So then they just scamper up the the stairwell and then they leap off the other side of it and then just land on some other guy and just mah off.

C

So they get outside to to the car. And they get in the car. And the dogs are still behind. And so Sophia calls for them and they jump in the car and they drive off.

B

Right? So they drive off. So we kinda cut back to New York at this time. And we have a meeting between the adjudicator and the power king. And she says she's p you know Here to say like he has to abdicate his throne, right? Much like Winston has to abdicate the condo or similar conversation. Like it's like it's like I was under the impression that I didn't have to you know, that uh contracts were

A

Optional

B

It's like yes, but you did give him a gun. So here's here's the interesting thing, right? So as as he dive deeper into the high table, you begin to realize a lot of the rules really are just bullshit. They talk about these roles, but they don't necessarily apply to them. Right. So here here's the thing, right? So Right. All of the Bowery King's A the John Wick. Happened before killing San Antonio.

C

Yeah.

B

Right. Him giving John a gun was perfectly new because he was not ex-communicado.

C

No, he was not.

B

Right.

C

He he didn't know that he was gonna kill him at the Continental.

B

Right?

C

The thing is that the the reason why she's coming after him is because she gave him a Kimber nineteen eleven and then pulls out the Kimber nineteen eleven

B

Yeah, it's like

C

With the intention of using it to kill a member of the high table. So that's What it was though it was the that he was gonna kill the high table and

B

Fantastic.

C

But even then it was going to be at the continental.

B

Kant blew up John Wick's house, so John Wick would kill a member of the high table.

C

Yes.

B

So he could sit at the hot table. Yes. High table should have been coming after San Antonio didn't know.

C

Yes, they should have been coming after Santino, but they weren't, because Santino had John as a scapegoat.

B

And I love it.

C

They're they're on the roof of the building.

B

Is that the his pigeons?

C

Yeah. His carrier pigeons.

B

He's like he's talking like these are you know there's no IP addresses, right?

C

Yeah.

B

Can't trace it.

C

Yeah.

B

It's like what about disease? Like I wouldn't recommend eating one of them.

D

I love that. Yeah.

B

Lawrence Fishman's so great.

C

But so she's like you give John Wick seven bullets, so I'm gonna give you seven days. To get your affairs in order and abdicate your throne.

B

Right. And during this time, right, you know, after this, she meets she goes to this um you know, it's somewhere in the city and it's raining and She goes up to this kind of little.

C

This also

B

Outside sushi stands.

C

And we got Mark de Costcos playing zero here. He's making sushi.

B

is the chef at the sushi stand. And she hires him.

C

Well she sits down. And he Goes to talk to her and like he's speaking Japanese. Yep. And then she starts just speaking English to him. She has a job for him. And then he switches to English.

B

And he picks up a piece of fish.

C

And so she tells him that, you know, she wants him to go after John Witt.

B

That's right.

C

And so he's got there's a puffer fish on a little cutting board. And he pulls that up and he starts cutting it up and And he said, Pufferfish it is extremely deadly.

🔇 Silence

C

He hands it to her. She picks it up, pops it in her mouth, and swallows. And then he's like, I'll take the job. When he sees that she did that without even hesitating. Yep. When pufferfish yes, pufferfish is a very, very difficult fish to prepare correctly. Otherwise it is very toxic.

B

As much as I I might go to Wickman's and get a tuner roll. I w I would not get a pufferfish roll at Whitman's.

C

Yeah. Not not from wagons.

B

No, I love I love their I love their normal sushi. It's good.

C

Yes.

B

Sushi for the price.

C

But I I I doubt that they're that they're sushi chefs. Yeah.

B

To the level.

C

To the level uh to uh to properly prepare puffer fish.

B

Which is why you spend a lot of money if you actually wanna try it. Mm-hmm. Anyway, so uh before we come back to John, we'll we'll focus in on Zero and his gang, right? So First, she sends them to the Ruscura. They need to send a message. The director, right? And she's back there training with the ballerina again. And they come in and they start killing certain people, so some of the security guards rather easily. Yeah. To be honest. Really easily.

C

I mean, yeah, he's Zero, he's basically got got a bunch of ninjas with him. Like his students.

B

They end up killing about like half dozen of the security guards in this place before they end up coming through the s the shadows. Exactly.

C

You know, they've got swords and whatnot and they're you know, they're they're slicing them all up real quietly.

B

But they're jumping around, just not making noise at all.

C

And they come up behind Yeah. Some of them come up behind the ballerina. And then...

B

Like she finally sees it. She asks him to stop.

C

Yeah. Right. And zero comes up behind Angelica Houston.

B

And it's like you gave him safe passage. It's like, you know, you've been judged, right?

C

And she so she says the same thing that the Bowery King said, which we did not mention.

B

I have to do that.

C

Yeah. And yeah, I mean that's that that was yeah, what they what the Battery King's response was when she said you know, when she she told him that he did wrong by helping John Wick and that he can't help him again. And so Yeah, so uh Angelica Houston says the same thing. I have served, I'll I will be of service. And the adjudicator tells her to put her hands out. So she puts her hands together and puts them out in front of her.

B

The fingers aren't crossed, right?

C

And uh Zero takes his sword and he just stabs her right through the hands. And then pulls the sword out. And so now it's like she's got stigmata. She's got holes in each of her hands.

B

She's Saint Francis.

D

Yeah.

B

And I know this is not the exact scene after, but this happens before we see John getting back to New York. We we follow zero in them again also.

C

Which, I mean, it kind of... Makes you wonder why didn't they do that to the Bowery King?

B

Well they get back to the Bowery. Yeah, it's Bowery King's punishment is different.

C

Yeah.

B

They they again they dispatch some of his men. Right? Again, like pretty like even before they get like they gave him the option so like it's like it was slightly different because like she did something afterwards right when he was already ex-communicado They kill his men they kill his men even before they they finally give him that final choice.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Uh like are you gonna, you know? um advocate your throne or not. Yeah. Right? They already killed some of them even before that, which is not really a smart move.

C

No.

B

If they want him to really get on board. Yeah. But they again they kill about half a dozen of his guys. And he's up there and he kinda smiles. And it's like the it's one of those like sun showers. Right? You know, the sun's kind of out, but it's raining a bit and they come up and you just smile. Right. And I I love Lawrence Fishbourne in this scene because You know, is like you just it's like no, you can't come off that high table and go fuck yourself.

D

What?

B

Guess that's his answer.

C

So, since he had given John seven bullets, and she had given him seven days, and he was not advocating his throne at the end of the seven days. Then she decides that he's gonna get seven cuts. Yep. And so

B

He tells his little bird that he's holding he's like, Don't watch. And he lets it fly off. like long live the

C

And then Zero pulls his sword out and just starts slicing really quick. He's just really quick, just throw seven seven cuts. All over Lawrence Fishburne.

B

It's almost a more extreme punishment, even though like Once again, nothing everything he did was actually perfectly legal or perfectly within the rules. Yeah.

C

Yeah, except for the whole, you know, giving a guy a weapon that the intention, which he knew was the intention, was to go after a member of the high table.

B

Telling uh official of the high table to go fuck themselves.

C

That too.

D

Ha ha.

B

Telling the high table to go fuck themselves.

C

Yeah. So yeah, zero does a seven On uh on the Barra King. The Barrow King drops to his knees and falls on his face.

B

So we're no, we're done with New York and everything that's been happening in New York for the time being. Mm-hmm. Right? Cut back to um John Wick. He's still out in Africa there. Right? Um Pogart's not there like we talked about. But you know he's still Sophia. There, right. And they they're in the car, and that she drops them off in the desert, in the Sahara.

Right. And the bot water bottle. She takes most of what's left of it, gives him what he has basically just one little drop that he can drink.

🔇 Silence

B

And sends him all his way. She leaves, right? And he keeps walking. And he keeps walking.

C

He's walking over.

B

Eventually comes across the three amigos Because now they're they they after they finish defending Santa Pococo. There was a small little tribe within And the Sahara that needed their help.

C

Yeah.

B

Right? To defend themselves from the evil, the murderous. The infamous

C

The infamous.

B

Ahmed.

C

Oh Achman, yes.

B

Who is gonna you know, rape the camels?

C

And right off on the women.

B

and prune the palm trees. Many small oasises.

D

Ha ha. Yeah.

B

The Elder's High Price

C

No, so he is walking and he finally collapses. And he wakes up, he has been brought to a tent out in the middle of the desert.

B

I love those tent in the middle of a desert.

C

This there's just a rug that's down on the sand and tent poles and a canopy over'em.

B

This is a serious like tent, like once you start looking into it, right? Yeah. They got incense going when the explores further into this tent. Like is this a mobile tent like how you know like it was the mobile like um tabernacle with the Israelite? Right. Just move it along whenever it's needed. And like the elder is just moving along the random places in the desert?

C

Yeah John Is brought in there and we see the elder played by I'm gonna I'm I'm sorry, I'm gonna butcher his name. But Saeed Tagmawi. Tagmawi. And and he is just sitting on some cushions. Like he's he's got like these big cushions that make up a chair and he's sitting in there. And John is on his knees.

B

By the way, if you've seen The Rise of Cobra or um One woman, he was in that. Also in Three Kings, if you want to go even further back. He's just sitting there, like you said.

C

Just sitting there and John.

B

I was in Hidalgo, he was in Hidalgo

C

And what's funny? Well yeah. What's funny is when you were talking about the three amigos, I almost mentioned Hidalgo. Because that actually did take place out in this r area of the world.

B

Yeah.

C

It may not have been the African desert, but

B

Oh by the way, he also was um since we were talking about this Uh a couple weeks ago with Frequency uh lost. He is he plays Caesar in sixth season That's just a loss. That's just a loss. So, but yeah, he's he's sitting there and he's in his robes. And he's acting all high and mighty and arrogant. He's just kinda wondering why why is that?

C

Yeah, why is John Wick here? You were out. You were free and clear and But you had to come back in.

B

And he's like he wants to get like in drama, so he wants to have a chance to you know he wants everything to sell. Well, like the it's like, Well, no, you just can't do that. Like to do that, you will have to serve us, the high table. Mm-hmm.

C

It's like y which means you can never be out of this life again.

B

And like, you know and then like would that be something that your woman would really want is for you to even serve us in the first place. So you could even just have a happier death and just be d just die. And still have that memory of her love and she'd be happy with you. Or serve us.

C

And so John decides that he will serve the high two. And That requires an offering. In order for John to accept the the uh to accept the elder's offer to have the excommunicado reversed. And the price on his head to be taken away, it requires an offering from John. John.

B

Three hairs for his head?

C

No. If only it were that simple. No, no, they bring out this little table and a chisel. And John puts his left hand on that table and takes that chisel and he slams it down on his ring finger just behind his wedding ring. And he cuts off his finger with that chisel.

B

Yeah.

C

Yeah. Takes the ring off and hands that hands the ring to the elder. And his wedding ring of the other why couldn't he just take the wing ring off of his finger while it was still attached to his body?

D

Yeah.

C

'Cause if all the elder was wanting was the ring

B

And he's not that fat, it's not like he can't pull off anymore.

D

Ha ha ha.

C

Especially since he he since when he picks up the finger, he pulls the ring off of the way that you would pull it off of your finger if it was attached to your hand.

B

That's right, Sally.

C

He doesn't try to take it off the back of it.

D

Ha ha ha.

C

But I mean I get the symbolism there. Yes. He cuts off his ring finger because that's where the wedding ring goes. The attachment that's not the life of an assassin. You know, he's giving up all future of being able to have a normal life.

B

That's right. I I love how the the outer just casually puts it in his little pocket. Mm-hmm.

D

HAAAAAA

B

And then he gives him an assignment. He needs to kill the man that they call Winston.

C

Yes, he needs to kill the man that they call Winston, the manager of the New York Continental.

B

And then John says, I have served, I will be of service.

C

Yeah. Yes, but the elder also says until You do this, all of the assassins will still be after you. The excommunicator will not be lifted until you feel windows.

B

You've completed this task.

C

But once you complete the task, Excommunicado will be gone, it will be lifted, it will be reversed, the contract will be gone, and you can go on the rest of your days serving the high table.

B

That's right. John agrees. Alder tells him, like, Hakeem will show you and help you get ready. Right. And he takes him to the back of this tent in another little

C

Area.

B

And this is a nice hot bath. tub with iron top heels on you know um feet on it. And then it's just then they have those like little steam pots all around it.

C

Like they're giving him a spa treatment.

B

Man, this looks like I like I want this back. Yeah.

C

I it might be tempting it might be tempting to cut my own finger off so I can have this bath.

B

I am almost tempted to go to the high table, like, can I get that bath? What do I need to get that bath? I I don't need to even do I don't I don't care about doing

C

And here's the thing too, is this is this the same tent or is this another tent?

B

Wait.

C

Cause it's it's still a big fancy tent. This one is actually enclosed on all sides.

B

I mean it's also got a little spot where they have his suit hanging up from him.

C

Uh-huh, a brand new suit?

B

Brand new suit and new armor plated.

C

Yes, brand new bulletproof suit.

B

Like the more I think about like, oh yeah, I like giving my family. So

Return to Grand Central

C

Oh. Then we have John back in New York.

B

Yep. And he arrives at Grand Central Station. Last time we were at Grand Central Station, we were with Robin Williams, Amanda Plummer, and Jeff Briggs.

C

And a bunch of dancing people.

B

Waltz.

C

A bunch of people waltzing through Grand Central Station.

B

But here instead, as he is getting off the train, before he gets to the main hall, we see these two or three other assassins

C

Yeah.

B

Yeah.

C

But it's a different type of dancing. It's not the waltz.

B

Right,'cause there's again, like, he's coming down towards the the main grand hall and these two assassins are about to kill him, but then some of Zero's men come up. And kill them. Mm-hmm. 'Cause zero is not gonna let other people get it on.

C

Zero's not gonna let other people do it?

B

And as we find out, Zero has Huge respect for John Well.

C

Oh, he he has more than just respect. He's got a freaking man crush on John Wick.

D

Ha ha ha.

A

Right.

B

And so these guys take him into the hall like like see that guy over there, that bold dude? He's got man crushed on him. They tell John Wick to go over there, right? So John Wick kind of reluctantly agrees and they're about to beat up, but when comes this whole string of kids that separate them.

D

Uh-huh.

C

Right. They're all doing the whole cov Yeah, they're they're they're doing the whole they're they're on a field trip and you know the teacher walks in front of'em and all the kids are holding hands with each other in this line so they don't get lost.

B

They go hands across.

C

Cross. America? So

B

They had a little conversation.

C

And zero Zero's like, see, this is the difference between you and me. I wouldn't have stopped with the kids.

B

And so then after he says that, that little henchmen one of the henchmen that was on his side appears on the other side of John. Right. And John quickly just slashes him three times. Yep.

C

Just drops.

B

It's like he with you. It was.

C

He was, yeah. And so they're talking. None the wiser.

D

Ha ha ha.

C

And then once the kids leave, once the kids get past, then this small group of people walks between them. And John and Zero are making eye contact. And then as this crowd of people this small crowd of people walks by Then John is nowhere to be seen. He disappeared with this small group of people.

B

Here.

C

And zero's impressed. And so Very impressed.

B

John leaves Grand Central Station.

Motorcycle Chase to Continental

But there are still assassins waiting for him on the outside.

C

There are a couple of motorcycle assassins. That attack him in the parking garage.

B

And so now he has a we have another chase motorcycle.

C

So he he takes the two the two out that are there uh that come at him. He takes the two of them out as Zero is coming into the parking garage behind him. And so John grabs one of those motorcycles that's now vacant. without a rider, and he rides off. And so zero takes the other motorcycle, as zero's men Are all on motorcycles and they chase John. And yeah, so there they have a motorcycle chase through New York.

B

And they can and they can in under one of these one of the elevated train sections of New York of their of their subway or their metro system. Right. And you know there's this car under it. And so it's like some of these guys are crashing cars, bumping some of it into the car, falling. He sh them in the head still like he did with the horse earlier.

C

And eventually he g it's just John and Zero left. John has taken out all the rest all the rest of the zeros guys. Or they took each other out accidentally. And so he gets to the Continental and he's running. And you know, he falls.

🔇 Silence

C

And he reaches up his hand and he puts his hand on the front step of the Continental. Right as zero comes to him and Sharon is standing in the doorway.

B

And he's like, put your gun away, sir. He's like, he's ex communicado. It's like you're still not gonna conduct any business on Unless you want to become ex communicato yourself.

C

And so Zero puts his gun away, and they all go inside. And sure.

B

Sitting down in the lounge.

C

Right now. Sharon directs him to the lounge, and so John goes and sits down at the end of the couch.

B

Yeah, J.

C

Like.

B

That's very high.

C

It's a couch. So there's three seats on this couch for normal sized adults. Three seats. John is sitting on one end of it, and Zero comes and sits right up against him, right like right next to him.

B

He looks over and I was like I'm a big bitch.

C

I'm a big fan.

B

Like zero. I'm a big fan too.

D

It's

C

And so John stands up and he goes and sits in the chair that's sort of at a ninety degree angle to the couch. And so Zero just continues to fanboy over him.

B

We're a lot we're a lot alike. Isn't that cool? With nothing. Oh my god.

C

And then Sharon brings Dog in. And dog comes running. Is that the dog? Is that the dog?

B

Uh well, I'm actually more of a cat person myself.

C

That's why John Wick doesn't like him.

D

Ha ha ha.

C

Yeah, so Dog comes up and grease John.

B

Yep. And then, you know, Sharon tells her like, you know, the the the manager is waiting you in the, you know, uh executive flour.

A

And so

Winston's Stand and Ultimatum

B

Hãy subscribe cho kênh La La School Để không bỏ lỡ những video hấp dẫn You know, he goes off, uh they go off. I guess he does go off with Sharon, but Zero stays there in the the the main lounge, the you know, on the the you know, the lobby level, right? And John gets up there.

C

So yeah. It's this cool room. It's like glass everything.

B

Yeah. There are crystal skulls.

C

There's there's a couple a couple levels to this lounge. Yes.

B

All glass.

C

Like everything glass. And Winston explains this as, you know, this is their this is our

B

Use this on special.

C

You have to be able to see everything.

B

See it so you know what's under the table. Yeah. Right.

C

Mm-hmm.

B

I mean it's even cool. You can even see like the you know that's like the wood it's like full glass windows.

C

Right. And behind on the wall behind behind the desk where Winston's sitting is just it's this big screen that's just it Just showing this pattern.

A

Yep.

C

Just like this wave pattern that's kind of just flowing there.

B

But you know, and so they start to have a conversation.

C

And Winston's like, You're here to kill me, aren't you?

B

Yeah, he picks up easier to kill me. It's like I have served, I will be of service. Mm-hmm. It's like they took your finger, right? It's like You know, they're talking about this and he's like, but you're having second thoughts. And John's like yes It's like, you know, it's like, you know, if you kill me, you'll never be free. What would Helen think about that? Right? He's kind of

Emploring almost the same conversation the elder had, but doing it more in a manner of how a friend might talk about it. Yeah. Right. But or you you could just kill me too.

A

Right?

B

And they start talking about rules again. Right. And kind of a different perspective about

C

And he Actually hands John a gun. Like the gun that he's holding. He hands it to John. And he's like, well, if you're here to kill me, then kill me.

B

But you know they're saying like he he starts off with like, you know, there's something bigger than the high table's rules. Right. Their aura, right?

C

Yeah, there's the brocode.

B

There is the broad code. Right. So they're they're starting to wrap up this you know, they're still in the midst of this conversation when the adjudicator walks in. Right. It's like, you know, I gave you seven days. What's I give you seven days? Will you be abdicating your position?

C

You're not gonna kill me, are you? And John says I don't think so. Or I guess not. Something like that. And he hands him back the gun. And then the adjudicator comes in.

B

And she asked, Wilson, you're not gonna abdicate your throne. Or your position. It's like, I don't think I will.

C

Yeah, that's what that's what it was.'Cause he said the same thing John did. John said I I don't think I will.

B

And she looks at you know she looks at John and she asks are you gonna kill him? And he just repeats it again. Like, I don't think I will. She gets on the phone. And she calls into that office and has the Continental deconsecrated. And people are giving this message down in the lobby. Guests are leaving, right? Mm-hmm. They don't know what to do and now there is a contract for both Winston and for John. Mm-hmm.

Right. And it's just you know, it's just like there will be members of the uh high table, you know, emissaries of the high table here.

C

Emissaries of the high table here to relieve you of your duty.

B

What? She could just kill it herself. Why doesn't she?

C

She's not Judge Judy and executioner.

B

I I guess there is a conflict of interest if you actually arm the adjudicator.

C

Yeah.

B

You don't want her going too rogue, do you?

D

Yeah.

B

I love how after she leaves, John looks over at Wins and's like, Are those services open to me again?

D

Yeah.

C

Yes and Winston's like

B

Like given the circumstances.

C

Given the circumstances, all all of your benefits are reinstated immediately.

Continental Arsenal: Readying Up

B

They like how they go down to the vault, right? And it's a classic giant vault with But it's it's ha it's what's its handprint is what gets you in. And they go down with Charron. And what I like about this vault before they go in is that there is a full bar Just on the outside of it. Just stocked with the finest Scotch brandy and urban.

C

Yep.

B

And they go in, and there's a giant couch there for what's the to enjoy said spirits.

C

He goes and he pours himself a glass. He goes sits on the couch.

B

It looks as like you know, like He shows what he has and then So it's like a

C

The walls of this vault are just lined with guns. Cause so yeah before before they uh went down to the vault. Then uh you know, after the adjudicator left.

B

That's right.

C

Winston tell asked John, Well, what do you need? And John pulls the Neo line guns. Lots of guns. Guns.

B

And Juke here actually goes down. She finds Zero. He has moved on from the lounge and gone to the barber shop area and he's just shaving his own head. Yeah. In one of the chairs. It's like I think that fortunes have turned in your favor. And he smiles. So the back in the bolt. Sharon joins them. He's like it's like if I may, sir. These are high table assassins. And their armor has been upgraded since you last were with us five years ago.

C

Yeah. And so Sharon's like, Well, might I recommend this one?

D

Yeah. Ha ha ha.

C

So Charon sort of plays the part of the Somalier here.

B

Yeah. That one just lets him go about and have a ha have his nice meal. But Sharon joins him for the meal.

C

Sheron joins him for the meal. So John, you know, he loads up. And Sharon loads up.

D

Yeah.

B

And then as they're leaving, they close the vault door and we cut in to the vault. And then there's Winston and he says our line for the movie. And it just and it just ends up with parabellum. Yes.

C

Sikvispakum parabellum and while he's saying that, you know the subtitles come up showing what he's saying If you want peace, prepare for war.

Battle for The Continental

B

Right. We cut in the lobby and now all the lights are out except for these like these green accent lightings and you got this nice music going on. Right. And they come into the lobby and they're sh shooting tear gas into there. Right. Mm-hmm.

C

Well it's just it's not a big thing. throw like twenty flash bangs. Into this into the lobby.

B

And what I like about this is that there actually it's it's not just Sharon and John. Mm-hmm. There are other trusted members of the staff.

C

Yes. That are helping them out.

B

And on you know they're all redshirts or they all they'll all die, which is sad, but still I'm I'm glad there is.

C

I'm glad some people stuck around. Yeah. But yeah, like you said, they're all red shirts, so I mean, they're all expendable.

B

It's quite a way to talk about some of them.

C

But

B

I mean there's a lot of expendable people in these movies. I mean there's there's hordes of people that get sent. Yeah.

C

So they had

B

Kill John Wade.

C

have this big shootout and none of like John has a rifle and he has his pistol

A

All right.

C

And Sharon has a rifle and he has pistols. And they're they're shooting none of these bullets are getting through the armor for these assassins.

B

They had to get close in so they can actually just like kinda get

C

Mm-hmm

B

Mm-hmm.

C

Yeah, it gets to the point where John is like coming right up on people and sticking the gun up under their helmet and shooting them. So that'll actually get past the armor.

B

There is one um particular one that I liked. This is this is going back to Casablanca. Uh to the with Barada. This was not actually um It was Sophia, one of the last people she gets him up against the wall. And like she's out of bullets. So she just pistol whips this guy repeatedly to the point where she's able to get another.

C

Magazine.

B

She puts it in and then she finishes them off.

C

Yeah.

B

Anyway, so But yeah, so they can't get through.

C

Yeah, I mean they're they're get they're taking a couple of them down, but like we said, they they gotta get it up close and personal with it.

B

They're they're holding their own. And as they're doing this, you know, the adjudicator calls down a Winston in the vault.

C

Right?

B

It's like... And I'm glad that she knows exactly that the the phone the number to his the phone in the vault. But anyway.

C

Sure, she's got a call list or something for the different phones that are in the in the hotel. And she figures he's probably in the vault.

B

She's like the probably the one guest left in the hotel. Just enjoying herself. She's in her room. Yep. Having her wine. Yep. Right? Anyway, so You know, they they they dispatch a few of them and they're able to be able to s they separate off enough from all this action and they get back into the vault. Right. And I love I love John. He's just begging on like, what's that? And which there's a little remote control that he can open the ball door from inside of it. So he opens it.

C

He opens it and John comes in and

B

He's like, these guys aren't working.

C

And Sharon walks over to the wall and he pulls a shotgun off the wall.

D

Thank you.

B

He gets a box of ammo, it's like

C

Box of shells.

B

Gauge. Armor piercing.

C

Yeah. Twelve gauge steel slugs. Armor piercing. And so John grabs a shotgun off the wall. And they just start loading these shotguns up.

B

I I love how you know. What's in he's just sitting there, he's got a brand new snip. He's just slowly swirling his brandy. He's like, go ahead.

C

Help yourself. My vault is your vault.

B

And they go back. Hey, guess what? They have a lot more success with this book.

C

Winston knows he is safe, not just because he's in a vault, but he knows who is defending him. He's got a And Chiron, his two most trusted people. The two most badass people. In the world at this point,

B

Winside's not breaking a sweat. He knows that this will just end with a bunch of dead people. And two of them will not be John Wick and Sharon.

C

No no so John Wick and Sharon go back upstairs. With their shotguns and their steel slugs.

D

Ha ha ha ha!

C

have no problem getting through that armor.

B

No problem. No.

C

No problem at all getting through the armor. So they're just mowing these guys down.

B

And so, and now as they're doing this, they're starting to kind of move up the floors of the continental. And now we got all these guys. I mean, they sent like two busloads of these guys. I love how the the high table just has like a hundred assassins ready to just roll.

C

Ready to go. Like SWAT style.

B

Just in case you need to take on someone like Doc Way. Because that this might have to happen next time.

C

Just have to happen that you send two hundred guys in to take out one person.

A

Thanks.

Zero's Respectful Duel

B

So but and none of those guys survive. The people that do survive so for this initial wave are zero and his men. And they're waiting up top. Yeah.

C

And that's the only reason they survived this one. Because they're not down there shooting at'em.

B

And there's I guess there's actually like five or six of them. Like and John's able to kill the first two or three.

C

That's because Zero is a huge fan of John Wick. He knows what he's capable of.

B

I'd say'cause he kills one of the other guys down like in the kitchen area. Uh-huh. Right. He's like, oh no, no one's gonna kill

C

No one's gonna kill John except me.

B

Me.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

Right. And so when they get up to that level, he kills like two or three of the those guys. Right. And then he sees zero and like he shoots at you know he's kind of behind one of those glass things. It's bulletproof glass. And so the guy, you know, zero kind of gets up above'em. And waves at him, something to that fact, and then two of the other guy he's like two like his most trusted assassins. Kinda show up. And these guys also have a man crush on John. Yeah.

C

And so one of'em you know, so John is on his back when they come in. You know they they stop they don't they don't just attack him right away, they they allow him to get up.

B

Yeah, it's like, Oh, we're big fans too.

C

They they they allowed him to get on his feet and one of'em is like it's an honor to fight with you.

D

Oh crap.

B

Like like if these are different circumstances we'd get you in zero and we'd have a lovely foursome. But, you know, they they continue to attack him. And if they want to attack him, they fight with him. They they were like they get him back down again. And they look at it's like, oh. Five years he's retired, he's a retirement, he's a little bit slower. Like it's it's a shame that he's you know slightly off his game.

But you know what? They don't just kill no de do they kill them? No. Cos they know they're probably not allowed to kill them because zero has told them. But they let him get back up. He gets up. You know, he he's like don't don't attack yet. I got I gotta get my belt off. He takes off his belt.

C

And then he uses the belt as a weapon.

B

And they have a nice fight, the three of these guys, right? And he's upon able to get one of them down, like kind of in incapacitate it. And so he's dealing with it. Again, this is all

C

Yeah.

B

Glass they're fighting on.

C

So they're they're breaking through the glass, you know, throwing each other through it. They're swinging their swords at John and he's ducking behind the glass, so the glass stops the sword. You know, it it It's a it's a very Well put together fight sequence.

B

It's very well choreographed, v well put together, like you said. And it's well done. It's a good fight. These guys are worthy of John Wick. They really are. Yes. They feel honored to fight with him. And I

C

And they're holding their own against them for the most part.

B

Holy no and you can tell at the end he feels honored to actually fight with these guys. He realizes why they're doing what they're doing.

C

Yeah, and he deems them worthy of his trouble.

B

And so we get to the point where like, you know, he in like yeah, he's able to get one inc incapacitates to one and then he's fighting with the other and then like the glass just breaks through and they fall the floor below and these guys are just knocked out. And you get the impression like they're not actually killed. But you know, John doesn't bother with them at this point. He could kill them, but I think again, he's got this actual respect, yeah, for these guys. He has no need to kill them.

C

He's not yeah. A senseless killer. He's an assassin, but he he doesn't just kill to kill.

B

Right. So zero tells like, you know, we both you know are both masters of debt. But like I think this is the slight difference. I think zero lends more towards that other side. Right. And then they start to have a fight. Right. And it becomes a sword fight. Right, well, I guess it's

C

Yeah,'cause John picks up one of the swords from the other guy.

B

Yeah, that's right, yes. And you gotta be like this also beyond just like this these crystal skulls are up there, like there's old like samurai headwear and Japanese, you know, all this ceremonial headwear from different like feudal Japan that's in here.

C

Mm-hmm.

B

So but you know they're they're fighting up there and again they're having a good fight'cause you know zero's a skilled assassin.

C

Zero. H he wants to be John Wick.

D

Ha ha ha.

C

So he has trained himself to fight like John Wick.

B

Unfortunately for Zero, he's not quite John Wick himself. No.

C

No, he's not.

B

So we they get to a point where I love this. Like You know, John Wicks you know slashes at him and he cuts off his fingers on his left hand. And they look up and like, yeah, and like they'll basically they kind of cut off midway, like at the first knuckle of the fingers. And so now he's effectively really just can use one hand. He can't really grip anything with the other hand that he has now. Yeah.

And so he's trying to. He's he's he's giving a valiant effort against John Wick, even though he's now maimed.

C

Yep, and then eventually John Wick stabs him through the chest with a sword. Yep. And he drops to like he's sitting down. Zero sitting down and

B

And he's got and the sword is now he's the John's pushed the sword through him.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Yeah.

C

It's zero.

B

Drop to the knees at this point. They're kinda sitting next to each other.

C

Yeah, they're just like next to each other. They just start chatting.

B

Except Zero's got a sword sticking through.

D

Mm-hmm.

C

And John gets up and he sort of starts to walk away and Zero's like, Just give me a minute. I'll I'll get ya and John's like, No you won't And then zero just falls over to the side dead.

D

Ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha.

B

I appreciate Zero's effort. I really do.

C

I do too. I love his character. He it's just

B

There is a movie in some other other part of this universe that's a prequel where Zero is the hero of the movie.

C

Yes, and Mark Nicoscos plays him perfectly.

D

Yeah.

B

I'm your biggest fan. Like he's trying not to like explode out of that couch.

C

Yes. Oh, yeah. So

B

So then after John leaves though and Zero falls over dead, we come back to Winston and the Vault. And

Winston's Calculated Betrayal

C

Well now Winston's on the roof. All right.

B

He gets a phone call again from the adjudicator. It's like my it's just a parlay.

C

That's right.

B

And then he's he sees Winston walk in. He sees um Sheron walk in. He's like, I think that's a good idea. To the root. And it's it's like early the next morning, like the sun is rising, right? And then we're like, this is massive, massive fireplace on this.

C

Yes, I love that. There's there's a fireplace on the roof of the Continental.

B

And I love how there's a fire going in this fireplace, even though all hell has just broken loose down below.

C

Yes. So They're up there and they're talking.

B

Yeah, it's first is Sharon and you know and Winston. He's like, you gotta play here? He's like, I think I do. And then the adjudicator comes in.

A

Right?

B

And, you know, he you know, he's like, I would li know, I would like to, you know, have

C

Would like my old toeback. Yes. I would like the continental b to be reconsecrated.

B

He's like, Oh, you were showing strength You know, they thought that would get us you know the on the good side. No the you know to to earn us to earn your position back. It's like yes. It's like, well, you know, how do you think we're going to go about this, right? And that's when John Wick walks in.

C

He just he limps up there, stands next to stands next to Winston, and just looks over at Winston, he's like, Parlay? And Winston's like, Yep

D

Yeah.

C

And so Yeah, she yeah, the the adjudicator, you know, agrees that okay, the Continental, the New York Continental would be

B

I guess before before that I guess before that the talk was like This is just the first first wave.

D

Mm-hmm.

B

Chris Tucker comes like, did he say a muse bruche?

C

Then Coleman Domingo comes up and he's like Your boosh will not be amused.

B

Her muse is definitely not abuse, by the way. Right. It's like it's like it's like, you know, the high table has more at its disposal. It's like yes. And We're New York City, we can handle any wave you send us. Yeah. And that's what convinces her like, oh, you're just trying to show strength.

C

We have John Wick. John Wick has already killed half the high table goons anyway.

D

Yeah.

C

Between these three movies, he's already killed like half of them.

B

It's funny. We have New York City. What are you talking about? It made me think about

D

Right.

B

Ghostbusters two, and it's like Come on. Come on, Vigo. We're in New York City. We're gonna rally the statue of liberty to feature.

C

We're gonna make the Statue of Liberty come to life.

B

Spoiler! Spoiler!

D

Alert.

B

We wanna do Ghostbusters too one of these days.

C

Yeah we do. That's mean sure, why not? That's sure fine as a spoiler. But anyway, spoiler alert for Ghostbusters two. But yes, we're gonna be doing that someday.

B

So that's yeah, so that's what convinces her to like, you know. agree to you know give it back. But then after she says that no, it'll be reconsecrated, you know, it's like

C

What are we gonna do about him? Emotions of John.

B

What about him? He's John fucking wick. Just let'em be.

C

Yeah, just let him be. But no, Winston's like, Well, I guess we'll have to kill him and he pulls out a gun and he shoots John. And John goes tumbling off that roof.

B

He goes well he shoots him and then he's like what's done and he shoots him again and he goes tumbling off the roof. He goes down like a

C

Pinball Yes. He's just bouncing from one one building to the next, just all the way down to the street.

B

He the end yeah, he he hits a fire escape right before he hits the bottom of the street in the alley.

C

Now Winston knew that John was wearing a bulletproof suit.

B

I don't think he fully expected a pinball.

C

No. Probably not.

B

But he knew he was wearing a bulletproof suit.

C

And and even here you know that Winston was not. Trying to kill John. You could tell that he was

B

No, as much as John Wick was surprised by it happening, he knew that, okay.

C

This is what Winston needs to do in order to convince the adjudicator to uh give him his hotel back.

B

If I'm dead.

C

If I'm dead, Then the adjudicator will leave us all alone.

B

She you know, she looks over, she's like, Okay.

D

No.

B

It's all yours again. You know, she leaves and Sharon's like, you know, how long till you know we can be back in business? Like, I think we can be back in business this afternoon.

C

They might have to do a little cleaning.

B

And we we see them cleaning They're cleaning when they get down the hall. Friends of John Wick One are sent some people to help clean up. Yep.

C

Wonder how many coins that one took.

D

Yeah.

C

Yeah.

B

And sh she gets down there and she's about to get in the Mercedes she was in, but she gets a little gut feeling. She walks around.

C

Yeah. Is he a Jedi? Did he disappear when he died?

B

Oh goodness.

C

No, because his clothes would still be there.

D

Uh

C

Well this is Jacket.

B

Yes. It was like Santa Claus and the Santa Claus

D

Mm.

B

Santa all disappears except for the Santa suit.

C

Yep.

D

Yeah.

B

Wow. Did not expect the Santa Claus to come from this.

C

Does that mean?

B

Yeah.

C

That when Darth Vader killed Obi Wan Kenobi and his robe fell, if Vader had put on Obi Wan's robe would he have become Obi Wan Kenobi?

B

Oh my goodness, is the Obi-Wan clock.

C

laws and therefore not needed his suit anymore? Yeah.

B

I think that's exactly what would have happened.

C

Hmm. Okay. I like it.

B

I like it too. Wow. Didn't expect us to go there today.

C

Me neither. But it happens.

A

Ha ha.

C

But anyway, then we see as the adjudicator sees that John is not there, she goes back into the hotel, and then we see

B

Yeah.

Underground Alliance Forms

C

We see

B

Where could he have gone?

C

Jason Manzukas once again. And this time he is pushing a cart, a grocery cart.

B

He picks them up and puts them in.

C

With John Wick in the cart.

B

And we cut back to the lobby as he's pushing him away. He's like, You understand that You know, with you know, like if he really is a lie, like we had to deal with him. Like he'll come after you and me. And I don't need him on me. I've seen what he can do. Like there isn't there is now a movie out there where the adjudicator is having nightmares about John Wick. This woman is gonna live the rest of her life having nightmares.

C

About John Wick sneaking up behind her and whispering, It's time to die.

B

Winston doesn't need those it's not gonna have those dreams.

C

No.

B

But the adjudicator definitely is gonna have these dreams.

C

Yeah. So then it cuts to underground. In the subway tunnels. And

B

And the music's building to a nice crescendo.

C

And Jason Mansukas.

B

We see him we see him pushing the car.

C

He pushes the cart up and he gets John Wick out of the cart and John's laying on his face on the floor and the camera pans out and we see the Bowery King.

B

We don't see him fully yet. We see his like R, right? He's sipping we see someone sipping Orange Panta.

C

Yes, that's right. We see someone sipping an orange fanta doctor Claw style.

B

With a Dr. Claude type check. I'll get you Gatchet.

D

Yeah.

B

It's kinda fitty because he wants to get something.

D

Yeah.

B

And then we cut from behind we cut from because we're seeing the behind. We cut to the front and we see the Bowery King. We see Lawrence Fishman and we see these guys.

C

Cuts all over and he's got bandages and stuff on. And he starts talking to John. And John's not responding. He's just laying flat on his face. And eventually Hurricane's like, Raise your hand if you can hear me And John raises his hand, his left hand that is missing the finger, and he's like, Oh, they took a finger.

B

And he laughs at it and then John keeps it.

C

Yeah.

B

Like no, it's like the old man shot you. I don't blame him. I would have done the same thing to save myself. Mm-hmm.

C

But John doesn't say all this. He doesn't say a word here.

B

Yeah. word yet. But then the Bowery King, he gets up out of his throne.

C

He's like,

B

That is Kane. Like we gotta do something.

C

I'm pissed off. Are you pissed off, John? And John sorta raises up he sort of gets up to his knees and like Yeah

A

Yeah.

B

And we add

C

And then the credits start rolling.

B

And it could have scrolled without ballerina going on in the background. And I guess he did kind of say like the Devour King is like, you know, it's like they know that I become cut king. Right. You know, that yeah, but yeah, it's the credits roll from there.

Future of John Wick Universe

And now we're left with another cliffhanger. We have the the Barry King, John Wick. And Winston. At war.

C

Yeah. It's bigger.

B

It just gets bigger, it keeps getting bigger, it keeps growing. Like we said, this movie grew larger.

C

Every movie we learn something else about this whole world that they live in.

B

And the more the more you actually hate this high table.

C

Yeah.

B

And that they're full of shit.

C

Yeah.

B

And there's all these other assassins are also really skilled, like zero. And you have a respect for him and you're happy that John kills him.

C

Yeah. He's not just an expendable assassin.

B

He's not an expert.

C

He does at the hands of John.

🔇 Silence

C

You know, he he's a worthy foe.

B

He is a ward worthy foul.

C

Just like Common was a worthy foe in John Wick chapter two.

B

Yes.

🔇 Silence

B

No, he he he feels differently about some of the different people that he has to end up killing that he just doesn't like. Right? Like Ernts. He didn't want to kill Ernts.

C

No, he doesn't.

B

He gives Ernst a chance, but guess what? He doesn't have the same respect for Ernst.

D

Mm-mm.

B

He tries like a ragdoll.

C

Ernst doesn't have the same respect for him.

B

No. But guess what happened?

C

Bye. He should have read more.

B

He should have read more.

D

Ha ha ha.

B

He'd be like, oh, man. Goodness gracious, that dear Mr. Crenshaw? That changed my life. That made me realize that John Wick is an incredible badass and I should leave him alone.

C

A Tale of Two Cities? It was the best of times, it was the worst of times? Dude. That hit me right in the heart. It's the worst of times.

B

War and peace. Hmm I choose peace with Jogwick. Yes.

C

Yes, I do not want to go to war against John Wick.

B

I don't know why the high table has not figured this out yet. And I mean they're the ones that trained them. The next of the soulmate's gonna find out find that out even more. Yeah that

C

They're they're the ones that trained him because the Ruskaroma is under the high table.

B

Yes. So they know all about his training. Everyone knows John Wick. He got the nickname the Boogeyman within a world of a bunch of highly skilled assassins. Of all of them, one of them got the monitor the Boogeyman.

C

Yeah. One of them is known as the guy who they send to kill the boogeyman.

B

Again, we've been using this a lot lately because it's perfect because we we did the movie the we did the episode recently, but like Chuck Norris gives someone nightmares? John Wick gives someone nightmares. Like Yeah. Why do you mess with either one of these people? Like Roscoff should have known that if he was gonna pull this shit and invade the US, choosing Miami in the backyard of where Chuck Norris lived, the guy that's giving him constant nightmares was not the place to be.

C

No, no.

B

No, he should have played Chosen a place like Astoria, Oregon.

C

Yeah. Now I mean it was smart of him to at least attempt to take out Chuck Norris before going into the rest of his plan. But that's one of those you can't just attempt to do it. You gotta make sure you do it.

B

And same with John Wick. People will continue to make the same mistake again because the next movie we're doing called John Wick Chapter 4.

D

Yeah.

B

It's the definition of insanity. You keep trying to do the same thing, expecting different results.

C

Yep.

B

So but we can discuss more of that anyway.

C

Next week. Who have anything else?

B

I think that's it.

C

Chapter three parabellum.
