Episode description

David flees to Nob, where the priest Ahimelech provides consecrated bread and Goliath's sword. Observed by Doeg the Edomite, David continues to Gath (Goliath's hometown), where he feigns madness to escape recognition. After gathering a band of distressed men at the cave of Adullam and securing his parents' safety in Moab, David relocates to Judean forests. Meanwhile, Saul accuses his men of conspiracy with David and learns from Doeg about the priests' assistance. In vengeful rage, Saul orders the massacre of 85 priests and the entire town of Nob, with only Abiathar escaping to join David. This dark sequence reveals the spiraling consequences of Saul's paranoia while showing how David's flight creates complex moral dilemmas that Jesus would later reference when justifying his disciples' Sabbath gleaning.
