Episode description

Do you suffer from high-functioning anxiety? Some of the clues that you might be experiencing this are: hardest worker in the room, always working through lunch, hyper vigilance on new emails or messages coming in, and you try to stay on top of everything at all times, even on the weekends.

If you’re proud to have the ‘overachiever’ title, then this is one of the biggest indicators that you have high-functioning anxiety. You might be seen as someone who is incredibly organized and that you have everything under control, but underneath it all, you have deep distress, anxiety, and a sense of uneasiness.

The first sign of someone with high-functioning anxiety is that these people have a tough time relaxing. They might be double or triple checking their work or the work of others to make sure everything is ‘okay’. When people tell you to relax, you think they’re crazy. You feel like if you stopped moving, something bad is going to happen to you.

When you slow down, the realities of life can settle in, and with that comes up a lot of uncomfortable emotions. People with high-functioning anxiety are used to soothing their distress through being busy, and because of this, they aren’t sure how to deal with these emotions except to escape from them, which continues this toxic circle of overworking.
