Can a blind chameleon change its colors? I'm Colton from Ripley's.com and this is your Weird Minute. Chameleons are known for a myriad of curious characteristics, but the one their most famous for may be a lie. Chameleons are renowned for the ability to change their colors to match any environment, but this behavior is not camouflage. Chameleons change their color based on mood, temperature, and to communicate with their fellow lizards.
Some chameleons can only even transition between green, gray, and brown as a means to keep cool or warm. Blind chameleons have no trouble changing their colors at all because it has nothing to do with the dependence of the color of their environment.
Colorful chameleons, on the other hand, will change bright colors when agitated to warn other chameleons. Pregnant females will also exhibit specific patterns of color to let males know they're not interested in mating.
