San Francisco-based ezwhip remembers with vivid clarity the exact moment he first heard the opening notes of Erasure’s “Who Needs Love Like That?,” launching a now 30-year love affair with electronic music. His pioneering early 90s radio show Chillspace explored the nascent genre of ambient house, but it was turn-of-the-century Burning Man that dumped rocket fuel onto a burgeoning obsession with the broken beat (with all due props to the Space Cowboys for fanning the flames). He’s rocked parties all over the Bay Area and the playa, but his favorite venue is the Ecstatic Attic, where he hosts regular underground sessions for a “coalition of the chilling.” His tastes reflect a passion for a variety of styles and genres, weaving fresh sounds with properly-cellared bangers to inspire both old heads and new generations of bass-chasing, booty-shaking beat freaks.
