The boy replied, “Because the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back in, they may die.” The old man replied, “Boy, don’t you know this long beach is full of starfish? You can’t make a difference.” The boy picked up another starfish and threw it in the sea, smiling and saying, “It made a difference to that one.”
