♪ [Gene Bailey] It's staggering now, you know, we know with this ministry, the first time this really happened was with the World Communion Service in 1982. And that was when you see the video, it looks now by today's standards, you go, well, that looks kind of bad and it's grainy. But it was like Korea is watching us right now. And, you know, we're able to do this right now. That was that was shocking and amazing all at the same time to be together.
And so but let's talk a little bit about that technology. [Dale Hill] I get excited thinking about Brother Copeland and Terri having the vision and the... you know, the idea that they could do this. If it had been across this country, it wouldn't have been such a big deal. But the fact that they connected Seoul, Korea, that's what made it, you know, just so over the top, I felt. [Kenneth Copeland] The Lord dropped in our heart to have a worldwide communion service. [Gene Bailey] That's right.
- And we had churches all over the world taking communion together. We were downtown in the Convention Center. And it's in my mind now. Yeah, Dr. Yonggi Cho was up in this corner. And I was standing there serving communion to an unknown number of people. It's the first time it had gone worldwide. - Kenneth Copeland Ministries held the worldwide communion service Saturday evening, August 28th, 1982, during the Fort Worth Believers' Convention.
[Kenneth Copeland] Live via satellite from Fort Worth, Texas, Kenneth Copeland. (applauds) You know, there's scripture in the second chapter of the book of Acts that says, "In the last days, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. And I will do signs and wonders in the heavens above. And then the earth beneath fire and vapor of smoke. And he was talking about the fire of the Holy Spirit in the earth and the smoke of the glory of God.
Well, there are several of those wonders in the sky tonight. Those satellites sailing around the earth. I understood from the last report I had counting the phone lines and all. There's something like eight satellites carrying this message to the whole world. The entire world has this message coming to it tonight. By the early 1980s, a constellation of satellites had been launched into space. And the Lord had been talking to Brother Copeland about having a live worldwide communion service.
His vision for the church was to see the largest number of Word-oriented, faith-believing Christians to come together in unity through communion. Without unity, the church couldn't walk in love. And without love, there is no power.
So when I look into the skies and the signs and the wonders that God is doing in our age, to think that we could all just lay aside all of our differences of denomination and our differences of doctrines, our differences of politics, our differences of our nations and the colors of our skin and our ideas and our thinking, just lay it all aside and reach out to one another and love one another. And Jesus has got to be one of the signs of the last days because that is a wonder of all wonders.

Whatever you're doing, don't watch this show while you're doing something else. Welcome, please, Billye Brim. Thank you, Billye, for being here. Thank you, ma'am. - Oh, I'm telling you, I'm so glad to be here. - Oh, listen, let's talk about the World Community Service. What stands out to you about that? - It was so... we were looking forward to it with every ounce of our being. Now, you had to go to a church somewhere that had a big dish, a big satellite dish.
So my husband and I had been driving and speaking at places in Tennessee and Kentucky. We'd been out for about a month, you know. And so we wanted to get back to our home church in Collinsville, our church that we founded there, and we were going to do that service. So we drove and drove and drove and drove for hours, hours, hours to get there. So you had to go to someplace. You had to be, you know, very dedicated to do something like that.
And to get to that service, we all went to it with expectancy, and it was like, ah, we're doing the same thing Dr. Cho's church is doing. We're doing the same thing, this is happening. It took... it made a great bit of unity in the body of Christ. - I see what you're saying. - It brought unity to the body of Christ. And now unity, that's probably one of the main things right now that I see, is it's time for the church to move into power, and you're not moving into power until you walk in unity.
Because love is the insulation of the power. I used to work for Anaconda Wire and Cable Company before I started preaching, and we built a powerful cable from the inside on a big cross-country job. Well, you'd have this cable and that one and that one, but you've got to have thick insulation. So the Lord spoke to me one time, and he said, "Love is the insulation to the power." So you're not going to operate in it. Power can kill you. It did Ananias and Sapphira.
I think they probably went to heaven. But there was so much power there that a lie was judged just like that. So we are coming now. This is the time, you know, I know a lot. I don't know a lot, but the Lord has tried to get me to know a lot about the glory and the glorious church. And it's going to come. It's time now. It's coming. Jesus is coming for a glorious church.
And it will require, like in the 17th chapter of John, it's his prayer, you know, that we would be one and we would manifest his glory and the world would see it. So it gave us a sense of unity I don't know that we'd even had before, a connection. We're all doing the same thing at the same time. I have Jewish friends. You know, we do have a project in Israel building a place there. And the miracle, the huge miracle of God bringing the Jews back is 2,000 years. They know who they are.
You take Americans and spread them out for 2,000 years, they don't even remember anything. But what kept them together? They have a saying, the Shabbat kept us the, Sabbath more than we kept the Shabbat. And I had a Jewish friend who said to me, there's something so wonderful in knowing that every Jew in the world who's at all keeping, you know, is doing the same thing you're doing. They're having Shabbat or they're having Pesach, Passover, and that's how they knew who they were.
So it was kind of like, I suppose, one of the first times we realized, hey, we're one. We can do something together. - That's right. Let's go back a little bit because you made a statement that really has to do, because people that watch this program, they're hungry for revival. - Oh, thank God. - But you said we have to be in unity or something along that line. Let's expand on that just a little bit because the unity, people say unity, oh, we all got to be alike and we all got to be together.
That's not what unity is. Unity, I want you to expand on that. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I want you to talk about that. - Okay, I'll just talk to you a little bit about what the Lord told me. We went into Soviet Russia for ten years behind the Iron Curtain, smuggled in ink and different things, and we would always go from Finland because Finland had the only border that was a free country next to Russia.
And, oh, it took a lot to get over that border, all kinds of things we'd gone through. But we would do meetings in Finland, tent meetings. And I remember a Pentecostal minister is the one who opened the door to us to come. And his church, a big Pentecostal group, and another Pentecostal group, they were fighting like I never heard Christians fight in my home-born days. They were in lawsuits against each other. - Oh, wow.
- One of them was in the tent, I mean, excuse me, in the building where they had the Olympics. Our group was outside, just outside them in the park in a huge tent where we were preaching. And they would send spies back over to each other. I never saw, I mean, they were champion fighters. Well, we went back and forth. We went often, often in those days. So, we heard, they told us one time, there's some unity meetings. We said, "Oh, great. We'll go to the unity meetings. We'll go with you."
I never saw such fighting in unity meetings in my life. They're fighting in the unity meeting. And I thought, do we tell our churches over here don't go to unity meetings? So, I get back home to my church in Collinsville, Oklahoma. And it's the evening meeting. No, it's the morning meeting. Morning meeting. And we're singing, Thou Art Worthy. ♪ Thou art worthy ♪ Thou art worthy, O Lord.
And suddenly, our little church, which won't hold over 150 people, sounds almost like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I said, "Something's going on here." And the Lord then spoke to me. I knew angels were joining in. I heard in the Spirit. And the Lord spoke to me because I was concerned about unity. I've always known we needed it. And the Lord said, "I'm going to teach you about unity." He said, "You're in more unity than you think you are."
He said, "Right now, you know that it's evening service in Helsinki. And I've got them singing the same song you're singing." - Wow. - He said, "I have when..." and he called them song leaders. "When song leaders are in the Spirit and they're singing what I told them to sing, I have congregations all over the world singing the same song at the same time. And people, and the devil drives them nuts." And he said, "Not only are they joining you, but angels are joining you."
He said, "Unity is in the Spirit, not in the flesh." He said, "You teach on end-time things", which I do. He said, "You know that there's a lot of people that are not in agreement on this. And so much so that one person who teaches this, if they see another person who teaches that, would cross the street to keep from meeting them."
He said, "But what pleases me is when they're in their prayer closet, praying in the Spirit, I've got them working on the same project at the same time in the Spirit." So the key to unity is in the Spirit. In the Spirit. And where is love? It's in your Spirit. It's yet abode in your heart by the Holy Ghost. So if you aim on walking in love, and you aim on things of the Spirit, there will be a unity, even if your heads haven't got quite in union yet. But it is of the Spirit.
So any move of the Spirit, any revival, any... I really prefer to think of it as an awakening. A revival... And I found this in a book talking about, you know, Great Awakenings. I'm into the awakening. Great awakening, we were born out of one. There was an awakening in Northern Ireland. And in a book about that awakening, a man wrote this. I'm just going to try to recall it to mind. But it goes like this. In a revival, God's people are revived. And the church is revived.
And as a result, people are born again. But an awakening affects the whole of society. - That's right. - So I think what we're going to have in America is a great awakening. - Well, we have to. For things to change, there has to be an awakening. - There has to be. - Having a revival amongst us is great, but that doesn't... - No. - That's not the Reformation. - No. It's not what happened with Whitefield. It's not what happened that America was born out of.
I mean to tell you, people in the streets fell under the power. In Northern Ireland, there was a man who had been in, a farmer who had been in to sell his product, whatever, coming back, counting money, and fell to the ground by God and awakened unto God right there without anybody preaching, nothing. It was happening. You know. You've studied the Great Awakenings. - Absolutely. - You've studied. I wrote a book about them. I'm going to get it republished and take a certain part out.
But I'm a student of the awakening. And the awakening, there was an awakening in America that it was a ship at sea would experience it. - That's right. - Just coming in to the shores. The power of God would come down there on them, and they'd cry out to God, and they'd wire back to the shore, and they'd say, "Get us a minister." So that's what we've got to have. We have got to have something above and beyond revival.
Though I love revival, and we've got to be revived, we're going to have an awakening. Bless the Lord. - Amen. - We just are. It wasn't just that Pentecost was something at church or you might have a move of the Spirit. It was your life. They lived it all day long, every day. - Wow. - Well, see, the Pentecost, we're talking 1914. We're talking... people didn't have Pentecost. I mean, it had to be brought there.
So there was this Grandpa Ellis, and he walked all over the south, particularly Georgia. Rhema used a book that Doc Horton had of him, and they used it as one of their early courses. But it was Grandpa Ellis, whose Vep comes from him, and then Vep, Jr., and David, then, I think that was his uncle. But Grandpa Ellis, see, all of these people, they went to little bitty Pentecostal churches. - Right. - But they knew each other. They all knew each other. You knew. I had those Confidence magazines.
You know the Confidence magazine. When that Confidence magazine was published out of England, they knew who in the whole world was filled with the Spirit. - Isn't that amazing? - They put a little article in there of a woman in Syria got filled. They had it in there when Smith's Wigglesworth got filled. I don't have the original.
I don't have the original, but I've got the copies, Brother Gene, that they sent me out of the archives of the Assemblies of God, and it puts in there that Smith Wigglesworth got filled with the Spirit. It's in there. Ah! So you see, it was the same way in the early days of Pentecost. Somebody had to bring it. I know who brought it to the north. It was this man named Frank Lindquist.
And then Grandpa Ellis was one of the key ones to bring it across the south, and they were real close, the Blackwoods and the Ellis, went to the same churches, played instruments. Seemed like all of them could play instruments. All of them could sing. - What is it? It seems like maybe we've lost some of that. We've lost some of that. The importance, because of some misuse, because of some... - Oh, the devil always gets in there, the flesh... - Yeah, the flesh. That's a good way to put it.
The flesh got involved. But unfortunately, we've put aside... And I like the term you were talking about in that word was song leader. - Yeah. That's what he said. - Worship leader. But we've missed the importance of that. And if we're not careful, I remember hearing Ed Dufresne talk about that. We've got enough Word, and we have to learn to bring the Spirit with the Word. If we don't, we're going to miss it because you can't get there on teaching alone. You can't get there. You must have both.
And that's where we've somehow missed it. And that's what you're talking about with Grandpa Ellis and Vep and the Blackwoods. They understood the role of worship and music in their walk. - They surely did. And you know what? Their music was happy. - It was happy. And Brother Hagin... You know, I was with Brother Hagin. Brother Hagin said, "People came out," Brother Gene, "To hear the Pentecostals' music because it was happy. - It was. It put them in a good place."
And he said, "Now all of this..." He told the singers, don't ever give it to me on a low. He didn't want it on a dragging ole low. He said that that came in with the charismatics. He said, "But the Pentecostals, it was happy. It was joyful." And I heard this... This was given by a minister who had come from denominational circles. And he gave this testimony. He had been the head of a whole big old denomination. And he said when he was a little boy... It was during the Depression.
And the Pentecostals put up their brush arbours. And he said, Everybody would go out to hear them. And they were down here. And they were on a hillside on the side. And he said, "We asked our mother, my brother and I, if we could go." And she said, "Yes, you can, but you cannot make fun of them." And he said, "There they were down there. And they only had one guitar. But it seemed like everybody could play it. And they would pass that guitar around."
And he said, we would wait until this one little old lady got that guitar. And when she got that guitar, things popped. People started jumping. People started jumping pews. People started doing all that. And she would take that guitar and sing the same song every night. Middle of the Depression. ♪ The good Lord will provide. The good Lord will provide. And the heaven would fall. - Isn't that amazing?
- And it marked him until he came all through the route that he came, into the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Bless the Lord. My dad was in those early meetings. He was a little boy. And they'd last, the meetings would last, you know. My family came out from those Pentecostal early day meetings. And my dad would sleep under the pew or the chairs, whatever. But Brother Billy Somebody, and I cannot remember who he said. His name was Brother Billy Somebody. We couldn't wait until he preached.
Because when he preached, he'd run up and down the altar. Get up on the altar, run up and down. And at some point, he's going to go off the end of the altar. And he's going to dance in the middle of the air. And he's going to come back on. - Wow. - Brother Gene? Signs, wonders, miracles. - Signs will make you wonder. - Even that right there, Azusa Street, you got that sign. A to Z, USA. Beginning to ending, USA.
From people, from this street, that little street that goes nowhere, through people the world thought little of. I took this Pentecostal message around the world. So we can trust Him. Even if we see our brothers, you know. He wrote it in that Book. - That's right. - He's coming for a glorious church. And I know he's going to get the job done. And really, Brother Gene, he did speak to us very plainly, tongues and interpretation. This year, there has to be unity because there has to be power.
The church has to show power. - You're right. - Glorious power. And we have to show it. They have to see it. They don't walk by the Spirit. They've got to see some power in the church. And the enemy... here's what I say about the Jews. Satan himself is just trying to stop God. If he can stop one word God said from coming true, he'll defeat God. And God spoke words about the Jews. He spoke that he's bringing them home.
He spoke that there's going to be the mountain of the Lord's house, all the prophecies about the Jews. So Satan thought, well, all I have to do is kill them. There are not very many of them. So all through the years, he's tried to wipe them out. God has spoken that the church is going to be a glorious church. So what does he do to stop us? Division. - Keeps us out of unity. - Yeah, keeps us out of unity. - Wow. That's good. But you're so right. There must be power this year. - Mm-hmm, this year.
- I agree. - Because we're, oh, my goodness, you know, I don't want to get up on "end of days" things. But we're close. Just like Brother Copeland saying, one day closer, every day you get up. But the signs of the times are here. The nations are in their places, prophetic places. The Lord said when you see Israel shoot forth a fig tree and you see these other nations shoot forth, they're here. It's here. So I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
Ephesians 5:27, we're going to be a glorious church. He's a glorious bridegroom and he's going to have a glorious church. We're going to manifest God. It is the job of the Jews to manifest God to the nations. That was their job. It's our job to manifest God. And we're going to manifest God before we leave here. - Amen. - He's going to have a witness come from His body before we leave here. And I hope we don't have to have people fall dead in the pulpit like Ananias and Sapphira.
But we're going to have the power. You see, it wasn't Peter's shadow. It was the proximity to Peter. - That's right. - Because if it was a rainy day, nobody would get healed. You know, wouldn't be any shadow. No, no, no. It was the proximity. There was so much glory. Glory, it comes from a root word "heavy". But it means heavy with everything good, splendor. So that, it's by degrees. You know, the Bible shows you there are degrees of glory. From one degree to glory to the next to the next.
You're changed from glory to glory to glory. So we've got to walk in a greater degree of the glory of God. And that was what it was with Peter in that early church. It was just so great. When Ananias and Sapphira died, they died dead. I think they went to heaven. But they told a lie in the presence of that power. And when you got that close to Peter, you got healed. So it's going to be again. - Amen. - Our faces, oh, I've heard too many prophecies. I heard doom and gloom prophecies.
All kinds of things. But I worked for Kenneth E. Hagin. And I heard that we're going to be walking in the supernatural, Gene. As naturally as birds fly through the air. As naturally as fish swim in the sea, we're going to be moving in the supernatural and the power of God. It's just going to be. That's it. - Amen. - So whatever has to happen will happen. But it's going to happen soon. - That's so good. I mean, the part about unity, we must get that right. We must.
And what I do, you know, I run into that everywhere. And it's shocking getting outside our circle. And you realize how much disunity there is. How much, oh, man, we don't like them. And you're like, have we not learned this yet? Have we not seen enough to get past this to understand we're all part of the body? - I said to Gloria one time. I said, "Gloria, these preachers know the love chapter. And they know you're supposed to walk in love.
And how come they're acting like they're acting?" She said, "Selfishness". - That's right. Yeah. So, Billye, I want you to pray for the people watching. Because I feel the Spirit here so strong.
