What is going on, everybody? Uh Stubbs here from Retro Handheld. Dot GG. You might have noticed our channel kind of has a little title update lately. I haven't really addressed that. We're just kind of aligning with the website. So you're gonna see GG, good game. I don't know what the domain stands for, but it sounds kind of catchy to me.

So uh yeah, I guess I'll start saying that now at the start. I don't know, man. Anyways, we're here with another episode of your favorite retro handhelds podcast with the crew here of Dudes, let's see. We got Mr. Rob the retrotech that as usual. Andrew and what's going on? Yeah, Monday.

Definitely a happy Monday. It's good to be here as always and happy to be here and see everyone in chat. It's awesome. OGB winner. Are we gonna see ads again? Let's just answer this straight out the gate. Uh yeah, the ads were set kinda funky last week. So hopefully this week they're more balanced.

Uh meaning you shouldn't see any during the show. I think there's like one before, maybe one after if you don't have YouTube premium. YouTube's doing a whole bunch of crazy stuff to maximize their profits as per usual. Do the creators see much extra from that? Nah.

But uh they gonna do what they gonna do. So hopefully I've said it right now so you're not all bothered. But please do let me know if you see an overwhelming amount of ads or any ads during the show. Uh let's get right into it though. You know, it's been a crazy week. Uh

W I remember were Thursday we were talking like what are we gonna talk about on Monday? I'm sure something will happen. Well, not much happened actually between then and now. And then Monday hit. And it's been every hour on the hour today is something crazier.

coming our way and it's like, Oh, I gotta rewrite the show again. Oh, I gotta rewrite the show again. Up to about an hour ago, we're just like, you know, screw it. We're just gonna dump the topics. Let's just let's just put all of our favorite ones. There's so much. Uh so we're we're gonna do the cream and the crop tonight.

And let us know your your thoughts on all this stuff. But starting out, we wanted to talk about the Anbrunic RG of. Tate rotate. So They're actually showing it with gameplay now. And the exciting thing here is that it seems to play GameCube, PS2, Wii. Makes us concerned about the price though. What do you guys think? Yeah. This is definitely a T six one eight. It yeah, probably. It doesn't need that amount of power, but they're gonna put it in there anyways.

The audio for Wind Waker was a a little rough. It was a little off. Yeah. Yeah. I don't love the gameplay showcase of yeah, like Wow, Link, you've never been skinnier. That's a very skinny link. Yeah. It's incredible. This has the potential though to be pretty decent. I mean, I know some people are pretty stoked on this.

Well we'll see. I don't know that I'll be using it for gaming a lot, even though it looks like it has the power under the under the hood there. Again, I think the main use case of the the DAP idea is pretty cool. I in other DAPs, you know, the higher end ones or the mid range even, you know, we're looking at hundred fifty bucks, two hundred dollars for like the M three hundred, the FIOs, and the ban, what's that other one? Hi-bye. Hi-bye. Oh heavy. Hibby. Heavy. Yeah, yeah.

Hopefully they come in, you know, under that price point for those guys. So maybe what, a hundred and it's gonna be over a hundred dollars, I'm sure of that. Hopefully. You hope it's over a hundred? Well, I hope it's good. Oh yeah. I hope it's good too. I I'm a little bummed that it's that it probably will end up being over a hundred. Yeah. They can hit ninety nine, maybe.

It's not gonna be budget, that's for sure. I mean but some systems look okay on here and is this This is pure square, their aspect ratio. I assume so, unless it's like the three point nine two inch displays that you've seen from some handheld. Yeah. That looks like it might be the case. There sure are a lot of bezels going on. Yeah. And and then when you have the watch face the bezels get even larger. Hmm. Hmm.

What do you all think? We've been talking about this one for a few weeks now and we're getting closer. Yeah. Any any any day now, I I'm feeling I'd rather just see it like get to people already. Yeah I guess I think Pico eight is a cool use case for it. That's why I just wish they had put a cheap chip in there. Yeah, really. make it uh, you know, kind of an affordable little little pocket device like that. Yeah, we'll have to see. We'll have to see guys.

So that's all we really got for the the rotate this week. I expect review units should be shipping soon and we should be seeing uh coverage from us coming pretty quick here. And we'll let you know. I just can't wait for I'm I mean, I don't know why anybody really cares'cause ever everywhere I r read and see about it, everybody's saying that it's DOA'cause it doesn't have a damn headphone jack. Yeah, but what's your thoughts? 'Cause I know you kinda like it. I yeah, I do. I I I think that it's going to be overpowered. Um and I don't know why. Um I swear to God, what the hell is that noise?

Ban is just getting ready for his RJ Rotate by fidgeting with something. I don't know what. I see him smiling back there. Thank you. Yeah. I was curious if that would get picked up. It's literally just the Mew Flip V two. I knew it was the flips you too. Like I I should have said that, but yeah. See No we need we need a new fidget handheld. Um I wonder I wonder if we're gonna have other rip off watch faces too, maybe from like some of the other famous brands, you know. Yeah.

What Cartier is m you only want Cartier, you want it you we gotta step it up a little bit. We need Gucci. You know. You know what? You're right, Rob. If they're gonna if they're gonna go in on this, they might as well go for the go to the nines here and like give us a five hundred dollar you know, gold Rolex or something. With a with a Snapdragon uh eight gen five. Amber Dick's never gonna do Snapdragon. Best you get is Dimensity eighty three hundred.

I saw something somewhere that they're talking uh they might they may or may not be in talks with Qualcomm. Oh really? I don't remember where I saw it. It might have been a throwaway comment somewhere. It might have been on the s the Discord. I don't That would be crazy if Ambernik finally dropped their Dimensity stuff and their other chips and started moving towards Colcom. I hope the case for this though is like a red Cartier style case. Oh my god, Rob, grow up. I mean why not?

We've had the Gucci ripoff. Yeah. We've had the McDonald's case, so come on, this is the perfect opportunity for it. Why not lean into it at this point? Like people are gonna be modding this thing. They're gonna be going on Etsy. There's this is maybe one of the most accessorized. I can't. Literally swap they swapped out their name the Cartier name with Ambernik. Right. Oh, it's... It's it's crazy. It should sell wrist straps too.

This again has the potential though to uh if if it pulls it off, it pulls off the ergonomics, the weight, the feel, the buttons, like if things feel right, and it looks like it has the D pad and the face buttons from the RGDS, as far as I can see there. And you know might be all right. And I have a feel I don't know guys, and it looks like It looks like it might be Oh n not a one by one, maybe it is? at us all one by one. It's a three and a half inch one by one. Seven twenty by seven twenty.

Okay, that makes so much more sense now. Wonder where they pulled this screen from. Yeah, because I so when I wrote when I wrote the newser up earlier, I went looking for a three and a half inch one by one and I couldn't f like a handheld, I couldn't find one. Everything else has been like three point nine five. I I could be just wrong and stupid, um, but I don't I don't think I am this time. You're not stupid. I've been out of the cave for a while, but yeah. We're having some sun. We you know, my family and I we went to the beach on Sunday and uh uh we did like a thing with our kids, like pick up trash, and we got a discount on a local restaurant. And it was upsetting because the sun was out, it was beautiful. But we're expecting to find a bunch of trash that we'd pick up and the kids could compete who picks up the most trash, you know, helping the planet and also like

They get a little friendly sibling competition. Well, this was the cleanest beach in Oregon, okay? There was no trash to be found. We found one dead seagull, a bottle cap, and uh in like in like some like pickle jars and a in like a a white claw. And uh we started fighting over who gets to pick up the next piece of trash. It was ridiculous. But I did say, okay, the sun is out, it's beautiful, it's nice, the oysters were shooting water or the clams were shooting water at us everywhere we stepped.

It's a nice day. You might be the first person ever to complain about a clean beach. I know, I talked to the organizer and I'm like, we drove out here two hours, uh you know, glad to help, but this has to be one of the cleanest beaches I've seen in If you want a really messed up beach, like you should go you should go to my hometown, Brooklyn. They got some great beaches there. She's like you gotta come back fourth uh fifth of July. She's like the July fourth crowd will gone by

The beach will be trashed. And I'm like, oh, really? Hell yeah. So we're we're gonna go back July fifth. We're really gonna we're so stoked for that. At least we have beaches. Bangus has lakes. Like Van is furniture mart, which is exciting and and that's kind of a well, it's kind of a beach. It's kind of the beach. You guys don't even have like a fountain or something? Not at the fern tree. All America.

Oh, I don't know. Fry's Electronics used to have like the the aquariums and the fountains. It was real fancy. I forgot Circus that we had that too. Yeah. You know, I feel like the vibes of the furniture, Martha, are similar vibes when you go to the beach, right? Because that's kind of the most exciting spot around. As you've mentioned. So

I see producer Sony give me a thumbs down that this is not that this is I'm cringing right now. But I would do want to talk about on that uh front when we're talking about unique handhelds, of course the AYN Thor, and I'm playing Star Ocean right now. This is what I played all the way to there and all the way back. So I got in like four, maybe six hours total yesterday of Star Ocean time.

So I am look at that, seventeen hour almost eighteen hours in. Okay. So it's happening. I got a couple days. I got till Thursday at five PM Pacific. to finish this game. So game of the month, ever you know, we're about to finish that. We'll talk about that more in a few minutes with Zeo's review. But um You know, the the RJ Rotate is one that could be a good beach companion or a camping companion or a furniture mark companion. Sony is still shaking his head. He said, Please stop doing that.

I wish I had that uh that map of Nebraska, like the bad map of Nebraska where it's like The US and its water access landlock. Double landlocked. Oh Nebraska's like the worst. Oh yes, this is exciting. So frame gen is coming to Android. Now we had some beta testers in our Discord, namely one, I believe uh his name was Vicarious, uh user in our Discord, who was kind enough to kind of uh check that out for us. It says it's kind of broken at the moment, it's not quite there, but the potential uh

And the idea is freaking fantastic. So we're talking about generating these extra frames, getting smoother gameplay. I I don't know, Rob, uh you were kind of talk talking to me about this before the show. Ha ha ha. Yeah, I mean I think it's a I think it's cool. I think it's exciting for devices that may not have the power. That's obviously same idea in the over in the X eighty six world, you know, in terms of using uh frame generation and and lossless scaling and things like that.

I'm not a big fan of frame generation personally. I I would prefer not to use it. I just think it makes the the picture quality i it it sacrifices too much on the picture quality for me. So you don't think uh you don't think people are gonna find like a a good use case for this? Uh for sure. Oh yeah. I mean if if if there's a use case for frame generation over in the X eighty six world I I definitely gonna see it here on Android.

Well Vicarious says update on Lossless. It's a bust so far. Tried Eden Game Native Warframe Weathering Waves tinkered with almost every setting in multiple configurations. It only makes things worse at the moment. Uh tested on the Conqueror Elite 24GB model. Okay, wow. Also I think the eight gen the eight elite has frame gen, so I wonder if it's fighting But I don't wander enough to care. Oh okay.

Well keep cooking over there. Uh who who's see, who's doing this? This is this is very fresh. Like this is something we added in very last minute. Uh Frank Beretta. Good look, Frank. Keep keep cooking on that. We want to see this become a thing. I wanna see more and more X eighty six features coming to Android. As many as possible. So eventually we don't need very heavy Windows or X eighty six handhelds as much. All Android all the time, baby.

It is amazing what we can get away with with things like Hen two and I mean just yeah, it's amazing. It's pretty crazy.

Also, speaking to eight elite, I know that the Conqueror Eight Elite, people have getting DOA units from from INEO on that. Uh but if you wanna I it's crazy, I know, but if you want to chance it, I wouldn't recommend it. Uh Droikes was having an awesome sale. They're not anymore though. Uh, but if you put a deposit down for their eight elite, they had it like I think by mistake for like six hundred and eighty dollars, which was four hundred off retail.

Uh and today they asked for the payment on that and I decided in the end I'm not gonna do it. But uh our writer Cal Kegg on our website Uh he went for it, so he he's gonna get my order. So he'll we'll see. We'll see. And but he sent it to me to unbox for you all first so we can see live on air, will we get a DOA eight elite conquer? Or will it be totally fine? I think uh I and EO quietly dropped the price on the Elite on their website. Did they? Yeah. Yeah. By like what two hundred bucks?

We used to have this thing that I would use called one game one rom, like one G one R I think it was called. Well still thing.

It's still around. Okay. Yeah. W but since then, you know, I don't know if it includes all of the retroachievement compatible ones. So like this I know these are all compatible. And so I've been kinda organizing from this set. Knowing that any of those games I open up are gonna have retro achievements. Not that you need those necessarily, but it's kind of cool to have them, so why not?

It just opens a whole level another level of O C D neuroticism for me. Uh which Andrew uh has now fully embraced as well, and that makes my heart happy. The other thing that makes my heart happy is uh Yes. So

Speaking of Ambernik, uh Gamma OS let us know today that uh not only for the RG Vita Pro, which we covered here, but Gamma OS Next is now also on the RG Vita as I understand it. And uh him and Andrew were were chatting today about this. A little bit. Uh Andrew, do you do you have kind of a summary of that? You were talking to him. I wasn't. I was talking to him about coming on the podcast. Oh, and by the way everybody, uh Gamma's gonna be our next podcast guest.

Uh we talked about this a little bit. Pull it up. I haven't said good luck with this many people. So it unlike Game OS for the Vita Pro, this is um Password ex it's Patreon exclusive. Mm-hmm. Um I'm trying to pull up the change log. It's basically got all the same changes that uh Gamma implemented with the RGB to Pro version, which means um Gamma OS Nano, which is instant boot to games. Love it. that uh the new X M B menu, which everybody should be familiar with. Um in place updates via OTAs.

I'm trying to skim through this because I didn't know I need to like pay attention. Um Gamma Pad. GammaPad, which uh yeah includes mouse mode. Oh And I saw that he fixed a bunch of bugs and all. There's so many bug fixes in this. Like I'm not gonna read through those. So so so many and the version here is what 1.31? Yeah, 1.3.1. 1.3.1 and he's also talking about the nano mode coming to the RP classic. Uh wait, where are Where was that? So that might be a separate A separate thing.

He did um I'll have to give I'll send Sonia, I'm sending you the link now. He did a quick demo video after talking to me and subs for a few minutes. Um to show off gamma OS Nano. Yeah, let's take a look at that uh here in a few I'll just draw it there. Oh nice. All right. Well we'll take a look at it now. Oh cool. So he said he's gonna be working on I gotta find the message. Literally a day before I was Googling Z S N E S for something I'm working on. And then the next day they're like, Well, we're back like w what what's happening? What's going on right now?

But they even have like the rain effects. So out of the dust out of the dust comes back Z S N E S innovating innovating emulation in a big way, okay? They have added GPU-based emulations. So it was so funny running this today and having my GPU fan kick on. I'm like I'm emulating SNES. But it's not just the fact that you're running it on your GPU. The other cool thing about this is that you get uh you get new texture packs. So like that they've built custom texture packs.

four specific games and they're gonna be adding more. So I tried Mega Men X for instance and man it just it pops. I was comparing before and after and the pixelated backgrounds are gone. It's just very smooth. Here you go. Castlevania It's incredible looking. You can do as well like H D uh up resolution, but

Eh, I kinda like my chunky pixels there, so you can kinda turn that on or off. That also has HD audio they're adding for games and as well as an overclock mode. So you don't have to deal with any slowdown. Uh, this is so this is so cool to see the first emulation love come back around with one of the coolest uh innovations I've seen. The menu system is like the the absolute nostalgia bomb for me. Just seeing that interface is like, oh man. Yeah. Right. And I love that they stuck to that.

And it's called so this one isn't technically Z S N E S. It's actually called Super Z S N E S. Yeah, I mean I actually have memories of this being probably one of the earliest um emulators I loaded up on an actual PC. Did you hear did you hear your GPU fan kick on? I wanna say I don't even know what GPU I had back then. This is we're talking like pre two thousand. No no no I'm talking now. No I haven't tested it yet. For uh for people new to the the hobby, you know

So much of the time emulation is based on your on your CPU and it's kind of taxing on that. So we could see some big gains by switching to the GPU. Could be could be cooler temps, right? Could be less overhead so that's There there there is stuff to explore here that it that is good. There was a good breakdown in our Discord today I want to pull up. There it is running on a freaking Odin three.

Which A Y N love'em on all that, but the blue Odin III to me I noticed lately kind of looks like you know those blue tabs you put in your toilet to keep it clean? Ha ha ha. To me it looked like that. That's a comparison. I think this is happening. It's that exact shade of blue, is it not? Really not what I was expecting to hear today. No, it's not It's been on my mind lately and I've been wanting to say it. That's been on your mind.

It's like I'm like, where have I seen that blue before? And it's been racking my brain for like the last week. And I'm like thinking like I have seen that specific shade somewhere. And when I figured it out, I was like, I can't ever own that version. It's the toilet three. Great handheld though. I think Cadence was mentioning this.

Biggest benefit to the new ZSNES would be lower battery usage because it's not using as much CPU and the GPU is covering some of that overhead. Uh so that's apparently one of the and it should run cooler and longer. And that makes sense. Yeah. If you drop your Odin three in the toilet, nobody will be the wiser. For those of you with the blue Odin three, I'm sorry if this changes how you feel about it at all. You know, sure you have Mega Man X Maverick Hunter X on the PSP and other remakes and the collections, but this was something different. Okay. Like It just flowed different. Am I doing steam control review? Yes, because there's two there's two steam based things we wanted to talk about today. Yeah, that's true. Well, so we actually have the official it the official release date is May fourth for the Steam controller. It should be up on the on the Valve website right now, on Steam website. Pricing at ninety nine dollars and it's gonna be available ten AM on May fourth. So may the fourth be with. May the fourth be with you.

May the fourth be with you in terms of picking one of these up. There's gonna be a lot of stock for this. I have a feeling this is not the issue in terms of them stocking, you know. I actually don't think there's gonna be stocking issues at all. It's just a matter of pricing. Like I think that they're I think Valve's ready to go. They're just they don't want to price it out. Yeah. Yeah, we ha we had uh it was kind of an interesting thing because it was like a a review video that got leaked and then I guess it was listed on the Japanese uh website first theme and then so then finally they just came out with the full thing. So now we have the whole we know know everything about this. Man. I was not sure at first, but after watching that review video and then also I r I r read a couple of reviews because the embargo randomly ended today and all these.

Because they got it kinda they kinda have. Yeah. Yeah. And people are saying it's like the most freaking comfortable controller. It's so comfortable and that the touchpads actually work this time. You know, in the past they did this one. This was their first gen controller ten years ago now. One of those. A little over ten years ago. One of those two. Original steam controller here.

And they put the touch pads up top and you know it was cool and it's nice to have one for nostalgic purposes. Not the most functional thing in the end. It was uh Pretty wacky controller even when it came out back in the day. It was like Yeah. It's cool though, but it was like I could see why it never hit that mass, you know, appeal. Right. It never quite caught on and they were selling them as low as five dollars in Remember that. And now if you try to get these, they're all of a sudden Pricey.

Again because they're a collector's item. And But the touchpads never really worked out well. Playing things like Witcher Three and First Person Shooters was just kind of a no go. And so It looks like they might have nailed this. We'll have to see we I'm gonna buy one for sure in the I'm gonna buy one because I I just want one. I want one. The hundred dollars is tough. By one.

I was gonna say I don't know I don't know if it's worth the hundred dollars. I'm not I'm not really a controller guy, like an expert like that. I don't really, you know, know the terms of what's out there and what what it offers, if it's more or less, things like that, you know. I'm very simple. I use an Xbox series controller for almost everything, so I'm kinda boring when it comes to that, but I I I do want one of these.

I mean, Ban, and you're the controller guy on the team here really. I mean, what are your kind of expanded thoughts on this so far? I mean everyone who's seen the controller hasn't has been in either like one of two camps of either It's too expensive. You can just get an Xbox controller for 50 bucks or a hundred bucks. That's not bad. I'll buy one. Yeah. And I keep pointing out that this is a controller that while yeah, it's supposed to be like

the console controller. It's also got all of the features and then some of the like elite controllers that you see from Xbox and PlayStation. And those are like anywhere from$150 to$200. Um I've taken a look at controllers that are like twice this price that are probably worse than what the steam controller will be. Um I think If you want the track pads, it's gonna be your only option, but Mm-hmm. Um, I don't think the price is bad, honestly.

Yeah, the price did not surprise me. In fact, when I saw the reveal, I was expecting a hundred and twenty, if I'm honest here. But I see people on Twitter you saying, like, why isn't this seventy dollars? Fair. But Yeah. If you look around, you know, I mean dual sense controller, which also has You know, the cool haptics and the in the triggers and things like that. But like um I know Kay was mentioning the switch switch two pro controller. How much is that?$90,$100? Right.

So, you know, if you look at what's out there in terms of like, you know, the OEM guys, you know, the corporal guys, like It's about the ballpark of where you would expect it to be. Yeah. A hundred's gonna be a lot for most people though. I I think most people are gonna skip on it but I still think it's not insane though.

And I saw that too, that people like, Well, you know what,'cause it's gonna be bundled with the steam machine, which the steam machine is still a ways out and Valve said, you know, they're trying to wait for the price to be right before they release any more hardware. Uh and So a hundred dollars to me did not freak me out. I'll say that. You know, I'm like, okay. That's n that's not terrible. In in the economy right now where we're at with things, a hundred dollars for a controller with

You know, it's not new technology, but it's like the Steam Deck with improved controls as I understand. Like they improved everything a little bit and then condensed it all into a controller minus the screen. Uh and everything that apparently kind of feels right in the hands. And so we'll have to see, you know, is it ergonomic? Yeah. It it looks comfy. It does look very comfy, yeah. I was look I was watching the video of the guy, you know, using it.

on the I can't remember his name, we did the review video. Well to maybe we can pull it up here. But um you know showing it in use a very easy to reach the keypad and type on it and saying he was saying that You know, first person shooters are not super fun on it. You're not gonna be competitive with it for Twitch shooter stuff.

But uh for general gaming purposes, and especially if there's a game that needs a mouse, that opens up a whole range. You don't need to like buy a win five or a win four, any any of the ones that have the the keyboard. And the mouse and the touchpad stuff. 'Cause this this should be able to get you done.

I d really don't understand people like why people think that this is expensive. It's not an expensive controller for everything. So it doesn't have trigger stock trigger locks. So it doesn't have uh three million hertz polling rate. It has T M R joysticks, no stick drift. I mean they finally It sounds like they fixed everything that people got annoyed with with the Steam like the Steam Deck and the and the OLED and crammed it into a controller.

And like a hundred dollars is perfectly reasonable when you look at um like you guys said before, the the pro controllers from Microsoft and Nintendo and Sony are between a hundred to two hundred dollars. Yeah. If it delivers, I it's the only one with trackpads and like that does come in handy. Even if you're somebody like me who just with that puck too. Like which is really nice. Yeah, it's really It's so cool the charging puck is also a dongle, you know? It's all

Yeah, you don't have to worry about plugging in two cables. Correct. So freaking cool. Valve is innovating again. And it's also really neat uh that Most in chat are disappointed it doesn't have a heart rate sensor though. Ambernik did this better. Yeah. The G zero one. That's the controller of twenty twenty six. It's a very interesting uh option. It's the controller we can leave in twenty twenty six. Yeah.

You still have your three point five headphone jack on the bottom, okay. And comparing it here to what a scuffed nomad or something? Xbox controller. Yeah. Who's this guy? Can we scroll down? I want to make sure to give him credit. That's a streamable video. Strength. On streamable. It's like tech talkie U Yeah, because was it? Yeah. Techie talk. Nice. Well it might have broken embargo, I'm for sure, or you know maybe. For on Saturday. He made the new embargo.

Yeah, he said this is the embargo now and then forced their hand and then everyone released their reviews today. But I know he said that the buttons felt better than the Steam Deck. Uh both the D-pad, the face buttons, and the joysticks felt delightful. It was a very it was a very positive review. I was like, okay, the the texture feels like the Steam Deck. So matte uh plastic texture there.

Yeah, I'm I'm stoked for this one. I'm I'm buying this day one. I already wish listed it. So it's it's in our description if you want to wish list it. Or just open up your Steam client. Or on the website. And trigger locks, yeah, that is commonplace these days. That would have been nice, but But it's also not a game breaking feature to not have it.

If it was if it was a hundred and fifty dollars, then yeah, it better be there. But it's a hundred bucks, I I'll I'll And I mean that and like half of the controller companies I feel like don't do trigger stops very well. Yeah. I guess. Exactly. Sorry. No, no, I was just gonna say like also think about just build quality, um, you know, just in general is gonna be so much better than than even the best.

Chinese brand. I I mean I will trust that more than any Chinese brand. I'm sorry to say. I'm like, it's just it will still work ten years from now. I know that. You know, so The only one that I would put I would argue against you is uh Gameser. Yeah, games are That's... That's the right. I love Game Sur, but Uh they've done a lot better over the years. Yeah. He really has. Yeah, they really have. Yeah. Still all under a hundred bucks. Their pricing is so good.

And the even their cheap controllers are well built. Yes. Yeah, and the freaking X five, the telescopic line. I mean, my God, X five later Just Worldwide. rebranded by Lenovo and and a few others like so good. Yeah, and Dweeb. Dweeb people like where where's the real host? Where's Dweeb on the show? Pretty much what we knew already before, but I guess it was a a recent interview that popped up again, so Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Not yet then. They're and they're probably waiting for the price to be right as well. Yeah. Yeah. Don't don't expect anything too soon, you know.

You know, I saw this pop up in the feed today. I'm like, what? Really? They're actually taught they're actually talking about Steam Deck too now. So they're saying they're drawing lessons from their other hardware, but they are actively working on it, which is cool to hear. They want to big gains, not just in incremental. Which makes sense. I mean, they want it to feel like it's actually a a n a next generation handheld and an improvement, you know.

Well we are patient, Valve. We'll wait and It's not. Mm-hmm. Not this year. No. I mean look at look at the issue they're having with just the steam machine alone. Yeah, we need to get that out first and the steam frame. That's what I'm most excited for, I would say. Beyond the controller, beyond the steam machine. Maybe beyond Steam Deck too. I don't know. Oh hi, it's your old buddy Zoo and today I am task maxing as the youth say because I'm driving to my FedEx location to drop off J Lash's Conquer Pocket Fit, which arrived dead. So much for So... Just now realizing it is the last Monday of the month, and so I need to talk about games of the month. I don't remember what the theme was.

Check it now'cause I'm driving. Wouldn't want to be unsafe in the car. But uh I guess The unofficial theme was RPG month because it was three RPGs, and brother, it was glorious. We had Come on, turn, jackass. We had Lunar, we had uh Golden Sun 2, and we had Star Ocean Blue Sphere. And I don't know if Stubbs has finished it yet. If he hasn't, eternally disappointed. Like I don't know what I'm gonna do. Just really upset if he hasn't finished it. But if he has finished, great job. So Lunar.

was originally a Sega C D game and then it was on the PlayStation 1, then it was on the PSP. I think there's a Switch re-release. A lot of different ways to play it. It's uh about you're on on the moon, spoiler alert. Don't know if you picked that up from the title. You're on the moon, and but the moon is green thanks to some goddess, and so you have to help the goddess and stop.

The bad guy who wants to turn the moon back into moon again. And it's alright. I think the the one thing it had going for it really was that it was basically like playing an Amine cartoon back in the 90s. Because it has some cool cutscenes, it has that has that like 90s washed out amine feel. Pretty good. It doesn't hold up great. I gave it a three and a half out of five. And then you had Golden Sun 2, which another game didn't really hold up great. I'm gonna park the car. Wait a minute.

Don't want to crash. Oh shoot. There, now I can be safe and focus on the camera. Shut up. Uh where was I? Golden Sun tube. When they first made Golden Sun, it was gonna be too big for a single game. This guy's got a whole bunch of flowers. It was gonna be too big for a single game, so they broke it into two games and it shows the first Golden Sun I feel was

It wa it was tight, right? You you started off, it was a JRPG, you were in your village, it was a tragedy, something happened to your mom and and no, just I guess your dad, the the other girl's mom and dad. And and so you learned all your stuff. Golden Sun two starts you at the end of Golden Sun One, but you're playing as the other team, you're playing as the antagonists, instead of the protagonists, and Yeah.

It's just too much. It's too much. I I didn't enjoy it as much as I I should have, I think. I think maybe if I had just played Golden Sun one and then immediately moved over. I'd enjoy it more, but uh it got im it was tedious. You don't want your RPGs to be tedious, especially if it's not a fun tedium.

You're it's just you're walking around trying to find all the little Pokemans. You you find Jinn's spirits and they're elemental spirits and they're just pokemans. You collect them and they help you fight things. It's a real pretty game. Uh beautiful Game Boy Advance game, beautiful Sprite Art. Three and a half out of five too, I guess. Well no! Give it a three out of five. Uh, what else? Was uh Star Ocean Blue Sphere. This game Rawhard. Rawhard.

three years ago. Um there weren't any real guides for people in the US of A. You just kinda had to to find your way through. Uh our buddy Jack from the Discord made a guide and I I think a whole website at this point. So it's a lot easier It's a lot more accessible. I still think we only have maybe ten, twelve completions, maybe less. I don't know. It's a very ambitious Game Boy color game that would have been a much better Game Boy Advanced game, maybe even

Like a Super Nintendo DS kind of game, it's just a lot of stuff in a Game Boy Color package. Came out very, very late in the Game Boy Color life, and uh it's alright. All right. I tell you what, I probably didn't want to play it for a second time. I got enough the first time. But it's it is replayable in the sense you got like eight or nine characters and you can min-max them and do all sorts of stuff.

It's an ARPG in that the the the action adventure it's it's it's it's button time you gotta do combos I don't know uh I guess three and a half out of five. I don't I wasn't super pleased with any of them. I was glad we had three RPGs. That's pretty cool. But None of them were particularly standout RPGs. So I'm actually now at about the fourteen hour mark this game hooked me and I finally am like, Oh, I'm actually having fun. I wanna slow down and start to collect stuff. I wanna go

There was retro achievements, so I want to start start going at you know achievement hunting. Like it's it's been fun in the last few hours here. Uh and it's sad that I'm gonna have to like basically speed run the remainder. But I'm eighteen hours in. Some have beaten it.

around that much or around twenty hours. So apparently I'm in the last fifteen, twenty percent of the game. So we'll we'll get it done. It's been f what, three or four years in the making now that I've been putting this off. So Zo says he remembers when you started it on the analog podcast. I did start on the analog pocket. It's seen my save file, it went through a number of iterations, different handhelds over the years. I started fresh for this one.

I've even played that on the the INEO Pocket DS to start for the big screen. And I said, nah. And I moved to the Thor in the end because it's more portable. And better. Dan does disagree. But one thing Ban doesn't disagree with is how Bop and his games are

I was like, where did snubs go when it's like the He just hit the hit the intro for you and walked. What? Yeah, that's what I was waiting on. Which is even worse because like this is a game that you were actually interested in this last week and I was like, Is it interesting enough that it's worth talking about?

He was worried that I was just gonna dump it on him instead this week, but no, uh Mythic Cart Racers or Mythic Cart Maker seems pretty interesting since it's a kind of Crash Bandicoot-esque or you know, Crash Team Racing-esque style game where you create the track as you're driving it, or you can make it ahead of time from a top-down perspective.

Um But it seems to mix a lot of the like nineties, early two thousands cart racing games with the power-ups, with the pretty fast paced like driving Kind of neat in that you can make it make all of the tracks yourself. Yeah, I and this is one man that yeah, I it just popped up in my Twitter feed randomly originally and I and I checked it out. And there's a playtest you can all try out right now. It's basically a a tech demo, but the full version was out May first.

And uh it's gonna be I think it's gonna be pretty cheap. And I already submitted for us to get some review copies so we can look at the podcast and also on the website. Uh it's just it's very unique in the fact that you make your track as you drive, which is so cool. Or you can just play it like a regular Mario Kart type kart game. Uh you can also play it in a top down perspective.

Uh so I love the art style, the graphics, the sound, the the way it controls. I was actually playing it today for a few minutes when during a Star Ocean break uh on a Loki Mac. Yeah, that's right. And man, it felt good with those joysticks, let me tell ya. I'm shocked anyone's still turning that handheld on. Yeah, right? Well, I got it from from uh SeaWag and it still has the schmuts on it. I'm gonna try to get a magic eraser and see if I can't get that off.

Uh I was gonna say magic erases your next bet, because I have tried other things. It wasn't Seawag. It was my it was my original review unit, so I I think it was the case or I don't know what, but I It was a good thing. Yeah. So it got a little rubbed on there and yeah, w rubbed off the plastic or something, so try to fix it. Yeah, Ben, I'm gonna add this to our library as soon as we get a copy and I know you're the you're the racing guy, so I thought you might You might find it interesting.

Oh yeah. It's it's definitely a neat take on like the classic kart racers. It's almost like um What is it? Super Mario Maker, but for racing games. Right, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and the dev is really active posting updates on their Twitter and uh there's there's a lot of love growing for this one. So I'm hoping to give'em a little more exposure here. Oh, and they said it will be Steam Deck compatible. So no problem there. And May first is the release, so three days to go.

Game of the week. We got oh we got dino wars. Nice dinowars destruction of spundels You guys never heard of Dino Wars? It's it was for NES. I don't know what this is, actually. Really? You play Dino you think you rent this from like the the video store when you were a kid? Not this one. It wasn't a huge success or anything, like a viral game, but it's dinosaurs, you know, s side scrolling platform. There's dinosaurs in there. And they're warring.

I shouldn't laugh. It's probably someone's favorite game that I'm laughing at. It wasn't my fa it wasn't my favorite game. I actually didn't play it too much, but But I I appreciate that actually such a probably obscure game is getting some love. I like it when Rapid picks things like this. Dino Wars. Dino Wars is the cat's ass. It's weird. That's my favorite though. Dino Wars is a game. No words.

Although I believe the ones they're actually selling are only the one configuration. So I wonder which configuration we ended up with here. four thousand milliamp hour battery. And the chip in here, I gotta remember. Uh we'll have to look it up. Maybe if I turn it to the English side it would help me.

Helio G eighty five. Yeah. So Helio G eighty five it's gonna place it a little under the G ninety nine. So you know, G ninety nine we saw uh in the K T R one and also recently what was it the Well spam. You're the you're the chip king. The G eighty five? Uh I don't think we I don't know if we've seen the G eighty five, but the G ninety nine was a is a close I'm trying to remember if it's the G eighty five in the Magic X one thirty five or if it's G eighty.

Didn't love this D-pad, but overall pretty cool for a game Game Boy Advanced 3x2 aspect ratio. This D-pad I has is separated, but I gotta say I like it a little bit better. It's also also rubber membrane, but kind of has a click to it as well. Very, very quiet, subtle.

Yeah, without that right stick, we're definitely limiting ourselves a little bit here, even if it has the power for something beyond It very much feels like a PSP in the hands. I mean the the Switch two pro controller is overpriced because of what the standard prices of Switch controllers are, right? Is that kinda why people think that? I mean the Switch two Pro controller is ninety dollars. So we're ten dollars off from the valve controller. Two hundred fifty hertz.

We touched upon this a little bit earlier, targeting icing. Yeah. Yeah, I'd recommend rewinding to that part to kind of get our full thoughts. But two hundred fifty hertz polling rate seems a bit low. I I so I don't personally care about polling rates too much. If it feels good and it's playing well, I I don't look at the specs.

When a thousand hertz is being on a budget controllers lately. So it does the Hertz equal quality, does the Hertz equal uh values? upscaling, you know, for years, pretty much since the beginning and that has iterated. But Many of us I think prefer actual sprites or actual pixels rather than trying to get an SNES game to look like a GameCube game or something, smoothing it out. Yeah. I usually like to watch some uh videos about random older cars. Uh a good channel that I used to watch a lot of was one called Aging Wheels.

Uh he would take a look at a bunch of just like I just kinda pulled it up so I could see like what he's been doing recently, but A lot of recent like old weird electric cars trying to put new batteries in them, get them running again. Um but also recently did a cannonball run in an electric truck. So I mean Lot of stuff going on over there. Other than that, I mean a lot of tech stuff as usual. Of course.

Yeah. I also kind of watch a lot of like why did these businesses go bankrupt? Why is Yeah, those are. event and if you've ever seen bright sun films, great channel for that kind of stuff. Wow. I also find myself in like architectural stuff or like um you know engineering stuff like how they how they build this or like it's I don't know, I get I get really yeah, I get like really into that kind of stuff. I'm like, oh yeah, that's awesome.

You ever I think I mentioned this before on the show. You guys ever watch like power washing? Like somebody else power wash their their their property or or cleaning rug cleaners, like they'll just clean a rug. The rug cleaners piss me off because you know those rugs, they make'em so filthy before they film it. There's there's there's no way they found this rug that looks this filthy. It's it's amazing. It takes me back to the beach experience. I was expecting to go to a trash filled beach.

That we would just clean up. We went to the cleanest beach in the in the country, I think. That's not a bad thing though. Well I was yeah, I was like, it's beautiful. It's this is a beautiful beach. You guys should be proud. This is awesome. The locals are happy, like everyone's happy here. Um there wasn't a lot of trash. And so I I hope there's more trash next time.
