Jesus spoke in many obscure sayings and figures of speech - "Wash one another's feet." "I am going to my Father's house to prepare a place for you." "I am the Vine, my Father is the Gardener." "When a woman is giving birth she has sorrow, but when the baby is born she forgets her anguish for joy that a human being has been born."

But at the end of John 16, Jesus speaks plainly. "In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
