Don't conform transform . Hey , I'm Rick and I'm so glad you're here . Listen , there's a lot of you . We've been doing this podcast now for 14 months , doing this podcast now for 14 months , and I've got a ton of regular listeners and I guarantee you , most of y'all don't know that . I've got a second podcast . It's called Wisdom for the Day .
You can find it at wisdomforthedayorg . Well , today , for a treat , I'm going to play the latest episode of Wisdom of the Day for you . The Wisdom for the Day podcast is a daily podcast . It's very short , usually about five minutes , and it's a devotional .
It's something different every day , just something to help you start or end your day with God , just to get you a little jumpstart , something to get you going . We're into the second year of Wisdom for the Day . Also , you've got last season , or season number one is the whole book of Proverbs , from chapter one through chapter 31 .
And then , starting this January , I decided to start using the whole word of God , so it's called Wisdom for the Day every day . If you like it , let me know on my website , wisdomforthedayorg , or you could also go to renewedmindsetscom and leave me a message . I really would like to know how many Renewed Mindsets listeners also listen to Wisdom for the Day .
It's a different kind of podcast , but it's really the same demographic . I love you See . Ya , you embrace each day with faith and wisdom , ready to feel inspired . Let's get started . Today is day 36 . Make a name .
Reading from Genesis , chapter 11 , verse 4 from the New Living Translation Come , let us build ourselves a city so that we may make a name for ourselves . Let us build ourselves a city so that we may make a name for ourselves . Edward J Smith . Do you recognize that name ?
He was the captain of one of the most famous sea voyages in history the Titanic's ill-fated journey . Now , after setbacks in his career , this new commission was his chance to restore his reputation . He was determined to impress his harshest critics . Smith prioritized speed over safety . He ignored warnings about weather conditions .
In reality , it wasn't just an iceberg that sank the Titanic . It was the pride of Edward Smith and his employer , the White Star Line . Now many of us are also caught up in trying to make a name for ourselves . Who can blame us ? No one wants to be forgotten or cast aside .
We're taught that the winners in life are those who secure a lasting legacy , even if it's just a footnote in history . But this drive to make a name for ourselves is nothing new . It's a replay of what happened on the plains of Shinar at the Tower of Babel . There , humanity sought to build a tower to the heavens , a project fueled by pride .
The effort was doomed from the start , as the pride that separates us from God also separates us from one another . The confusion and scattering of the people at Babel are fitting consequences for those who refuse to hear God's unifying voice . But God's response to the divisions of Babel is seen in Pentecost .
Through the power of the Holy Spirit , people from many nations were brought together , united under God's name . That's from Acts 2.21 . In contrast to the fragmentation at Babel , pentecost shows us God's plan to reconcile and unite through His Spirit . Pentecost shows us God's plan to reconcile and unite through His Spirit .
True significance and unity come not from building a name for ourselves , but from being a part of God's redemptive story . Pray with me , father . God , lord Almighty , our arrogant name-building isolates us from you and our neighbors . Place your own name upon us , lord . We pray , and give us unity in bearing the name of Christ , amen .
