Laodicea: The Church of The End Times

, welcome to Renewed Mindsets . I'm Rick and I'm so glad you're here . There's a knock , not a loud one , not a violent one , just steady , and it's coming from the door of the church . The scary part it's Jesus knocking , not on the hearts of sinners , but on the doors of his own people . Revelation 3.20 says here I am , I stand at the door and knock .

If anyone hears my voice and opens the door , I will come in . What kind of church has to be re-invited to let Jesus back in ? Let me tell you Laodicea . And today I'm here to tell you we are living in it . The modern church , dressed up in lights and sound and likes and followers , is asleep in comfort while the world burns around it .

The world is on fire , but the church is not , and that's the danger . Not that we've lost doctrine , not even that we've turned away completely , but that we think we're fine when we're not . This episode today is not entertainment . It's not soft or cute or polished .

This is a prophetic wake-up call , because the church that won't wake up won't rise up , because the church that won't

wake up won't rise up . Laodicea wasn't a small or broken place . It was booming , a wealthy city in Asia Minor or modern-day Turkey . It was a center of commerce , a center of medicine and fashion . They were famous for wealth and banking . They had a medical school there that was known for eye salve .

They had fine black wool that was manufactured there for luxurious clothing . They had everything except for water . There was no local spring . They had to pipe in water from other cities using an aqueduct . Now , by the time the hot water from Heriopolis arrived , it was lukewarm . The cold water from Colossae , same thing , lukewarm .

That water system was a literal symbol of spiritual uselessness . Jesus uses their very identity to speak to them . He says in Revelation 3 , 15 and 16 , I know your works , that you're neither hot or cold . I wish you were one or the other because you are lukewarm . I will spit you out of my mouth .

He's not saying I wish you were cold in the faith he's saying . You're ineffective , you bring no refreshment , you bring no healing . You've become so neutral that you're nauseating . This is the only church in Revelation that Jesus has nothing good to say about . Not one compliment , just a rebuke .

Let's take a look in the mirror . Today's church is wealthy , image-obsessed , celebrity-driven , doctrinally shallow , spiritually distracted and , just like Laodicea , we think we're fine , I am rich , I've prospered , I don't need anything . Meanwhile , our prayer lives are dead , our altars are empty . Our churches are entertainment centers instead of hospitals for broken people .

We've traded the glory for graphics . We've made disciples of Instagram , not of Christ . We platform personalities , not holiness . We quote influencers more than we quote scripture . We've got branding merch , motivational sermons , but we don't have repentance . Jesus is outside the building and we're too

busy to notice . So let's break this down . Revelation 3.17, . You say I am rich , I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing , but you do not realize that you're wretched , pitiful , poor , blind and naked . Rich in resources but not spirit , blind , unable to see our sin , naked , spiritually exposed and ashamed . This is where the enemy has deceived us .

He didn't need to destroy the church . This is where the enemy has deceived us . He didn't need to destroy the church , he just needed us to think that we were fine without Jesus . We're clothed in self-confidence , not in righteousness . We see through cultural lenses , not spiritual ones .

We've got money in one hand , but we've got no power Crowds but no consecration . Jesus isn't being poetic , he's being brutally honest . You're broke , blind and naked . What happens when we no longer know how bad it's gotten ? We lose our urgency . We stop fighting , we start coasting , and lukewarm people always coast until they crash

. So why won't we wake up ? Well , first reason is comfort . Comfort is the anesthetic that puts the church to sleep . We don't want to fast , we don't want hard truth . We want Jesus , but we want him to sit in the back row while we preach our dreams . Yeah , another reason why we won't wake up fear of man .

We've made peace with sin to avoid conflict with sinners . We're silent on abortion because it's political . We're silent on gender confusion because it's just not my thing , it's not my business , right . We're silent on holiness because it's too old school . Fear of offending people has replaced fear of God . Another reason we won't wake up Idolatry of self .

Modern Christianity teaches self-help , not self-denial . We've made God a life coach , not a king . We've made Jesus the Savior who serves us , not the Lord . We submitted to 2 Timothy . 3.2 says in the last days people will be lovers of themselves . Tell me that's not today . People will be lovers of themselves . Tell me that's not today .

And when the church is in love with itself , it'll never carry a cross . A lukewarm faith has a cost , and that cost is souls . Our children don't know truth because we didn't teach it . Our marriages fail because we didn't fight spiritually . Our culture crumbles because we were silent when we were supposed to roar .

Lukewarm Christianity is powerless Christianity and in the last days it's not enough just to be nice . The remnant will be bold , unashamed and burning . Jesus said I wish you were either hot or cold , because even cold people know that they're far from God .

Lukewarm people don't see the danger , they're content in their compromise and , worst of all , they misrepresent Christ to the world

. Now here's the mercy of Jesus . In this message . Jesus doesn't walk away Revelation 3.19, . He's knocking , but he's not kicking the door down , but he's waiting . He's offering gold refined in fire , real treasure , not fake prosperity . He's offering white clothes to wear , righteousness that covers our shame and salve for our eyes . He offers spiritual clarity .

In a blind world . He's saying let me back in , let me set you on fire again , let me make you holy , let me open your eyes .

So here's the question what kind of church are we going to be ? The kind that hosts services but never surrenders ? The kind that sings songs but never repents ? The kind that quotes scripture but doesn't obey it ? Are we going to be the kind of church that opens the door , that bows in repentance and says Jesus , come in and take over .

He's still knocking , but he won't knock forever . He who has ears , let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches . This is your moment to wake up , to light the fire again , to be the church that overcomes , not the one that gets spit out . It's time to answer the door .
