Major shifts were happening quickly: politicians wielded deeply questionable power in the name of damage control, scientists pushed the envelope in pursuit of medicinal breakthroughs, and the American people in particular became acutely aware of the sheer magnitude of the power imbalance between them and their government...and all the dreadful implications that carries.
