The cherry blossom season in japan its traditional sign of spring officially arriving has peaked earliest this year since records began 1200 years ago, The 2021 season in the city of Kyoto peaked on 26th March, according to Osaka uni. Increasing early flowering in recent decades is likely to be caused by climate change, scientists say, Records from Kyoto go back 812 AD in imperial court documents and diaries.

The city has experienced an unusually warm spring this year, the previous record for an early peak was in the year 1409 when the season reached its peak on 27th march.
