Sarcophagi are stone coffins often adorned with sculptures and inscriptions. famous mummies were those of king Ramses 2, seti 1 , Seqqnenre and Tuthmisis 3 in addition to the four queens Ahose-neferatri, Tiye, Mertiamun, and Hatshepsut. The mummies were first unearthed in 1881, at dier el Bahari in Luxor's west bank in tomb tt320.
The conservation process is placing each mummy in an oxygen-free nitrogen capsule which can keep it preserved without being damaged from the effects of humidity especially we're talking bout bacteria fungi and insects. mummies upon arrival to the museum will be kept in the exact same conditions as the nitrogen capsules so there will not be any shock for the mummy when they are removed from the body and put into the new high-tech units.
Accompanying each mummy will be any belongings discovered alongside them including their coffins, as well as a CT scan which reveals what is beneath the wraps and sometimes any breaks in the bones or diseases that affected the royals.
