Episode description

In this episode, I reconnect with Suchitra Narayanan, an NSF Graduate Research Fellow working at the intersection of astrochemistry and planetary science, and most importantly, a friend from childhood. Suchitra’s journey starts from her childhood in Fremont, California where she explored her early fascination with the stars, nurtured by a humble yellow telescope and her father’s enthusiasm for science fiction and astronomy.

Our conversation takes us through her reflections on growing up in a tight-knit, diverse community in Fremont, where shared experiences and a culture of curiosity laid the groundwork for her scientific career. Suchitra shares her perspectives on the awe of the universe, the interdisciplinary nature of modern astronomy, and how this field uniquely inspires people to appreciate the fragility and beauty of Earth. We also delve into her passion for climate advocacy, the connection between planetary science and sustainability, and the critical role of curiosity in education.

This episode is a celebration of discovery, both personal and cosmic, as we reflect on the importance of fostering curiosity, the power of awe in shaping our worldviews, and the responsibility we have to protect the planet we call home. Whether you’re a space enthusiast, a climate advocate, or simply someone drawn to the wonder of the stars, this conversation is bound to inspire. I hope you enjoy this conversation!
