OP was hiking with their partner when their partner slipped off a boulder and twisted his ankle pretty badly. There was another couple with them when suddenly, at the sound of his surprised scream, the couple suddenly took off running down the trail without any word or acknowledgement of what had happened. OP and their partner were left to themselves to hike the rest of the way back.
